[Q] CM11 Unofficial vs Nightly - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been running PlayfulGod's CM11 Unofficial for the past couple days with success. I see that CM11 "official" nightly builds are now available, but PlayfulGod is still updating the unofficial build.
Just wondering if there is a changelog for the nightly builds similar to what PlayfulGod has on his thread? I'm not clear what the differences between these versions are. I'm new!

If you read the threads, you should be able to find out what the unofficial builders cherry pick that aren't in the official builds. All it takes is a little bit of reading.
For the most part, there are not going to be any drastic changes - they are on the same base after all.

Yes you're right .. i think the unofficial is the best than nightly .. because nightly just beta tester before official ...

Nightly ROM CM7 and CM7 RC1 question.

What is the difference between these two ROM threads? Are the Nightlies more updated than the the RC1? Is the RC1 just a more stable release?
Just curious on the major differences between the two.
Thanks
Frank
Nightlies are just that, nightly builds that incorporate the newest changes. RC1 is RC1 and will not change but it should be more stable than the nightlies (in theory)
RC1 can be seen as a nightly that the CM team has deemed stable enough to be called a release candidate. However, RC1 has several issues which were fixed in the later nightlies and thus the latest nightlies are a better option than RC1.
Yep the nightlies are the builds that are automatically generated each night and the RCs are chosen from the most stable nightly
Q&A forum or the nightly thread would have been a better place for this, rather than starting a whole new thread

Dang it! I look in Q/A first and for some reason didn't find a post there...now you mention this to me and I did find a post with the same question.
At least I'll/we'll get more input...maybe. Thanks!

[Q] Cyanogenmod Nightly

What are Cyanogenmod Nightly ROMs? I would like to run one but am not sure what the difference is.
They are regular roms of CM7, but each nightly builds upon the last by updating fixes, patches, and new features.
Alright thanks.
Anytime man.

[Q] what is the point of the cm nightly builds?

what exactly is the purpose of the cm nightly roms? sure they're auto-compiled from the cm github, and with each release there are new fixes, corrections, etc. so they're more updated than the stable, but what function do they serve?
is it a developer's testing version or something?

CM nightly builds usually have the latest and greatest versions of kernels, apps, etc. on them. As a result, some of what you see on the nightlies won't make it to the RCs or the Stable builds.
Didn't you answer your own question in the OP?
The nightly builds include the latest additions/fixes/corrections to CM7, over and above what the RC and Stables have.
They're for people who want to have the absolutely most up-to-date build of CM7 on their device. In many cases there are large fixes and upgrades in the nightlies that you can have weeks ahead of them being integrated into a RC or Stable release. If you flash nightlies then you just upgrade your ROM a few features at a time, rather than 30 features all at once moving from one Stable to another.
Nightlies aren't usually recommended for the new user unless you're adventurous. Although they're generally stable (sometimes moreso than the 'Stable' release), there are inherent issues with flashing the newest ROM version every night. If you're willing to take it on you can but there's no guarantee that they work as you'd expect.

No what I meant was what purpose does it serve?
Is it supposed to be a developer's version of the CM7 ROM to see what new additions work and what still needs fixing and such.

I would imagine even though we are not allowed to report bugs the CM devs to use the nightly builds to find and fix bugs.

Yes generally this.
In ratio to how many people use it to be on the cutting edge, id say the ones who actually use it for dev purposes is highly negligible lol.

[Q]CM9

So official cm9 is not coming to the droid inc, is that right?
according to the flow chart there is a chance it will
I am on invisiblek's 5/29 nightly build and it is sweet so far. Very smooth and I haven't had to pull the battery since I put it on 2 days ago.
drk.hd's a9 build is supposedly working very well too.
So don't be afraid to go with the latest unofficial builds.
We already got it! it's just unofficial. But it's stable. I think all we need is a maintainer to submit and maintain it to CM. what do I know though
I ask only because i'd like to see an updated kernel

There are a few updated kernels, but none from cyanogenmod yet.

Nightlies

What exactly are the Cynogen "Nightlies"? I have the latest Cynogen ROM on my SGS3. Are these updates created by individuals to make the current ROM better?
"Nightlies" are nightly builds of the current state of the code base, incorporating changes that haven't yet made it into official releases.
You can get an idea of what those changes are in, for example, the 10.1 builds here, and you can download them from here.
