Classic earphones, NOT earbuds - Nexus 5 Accessories

Has anyone come across such earphones, that meet ALL these criteria:
1) Plastic earphones, NOT earbuds (I hate the feeling of silicone inside my ear canal)
2) Three in-line buttons (volume +/-, answer key), that work with Nexus 5
3) Black colour
4) cheap, something under $10, just good enough to watch youtube videos
If you have, please post some links
Thank you in advance.

I've actually been having trouble finding earphones as well. Everyone always reviews high quality earbuds and I also hate sticking them in my ear and they often fall out as well (yes I've tried different size tips). I actually would really like high quality ones. I wouldn't mind paying 20-30 dollars for a pair but it seems like people only concentrate on earbuds.

If you are looking for over the ear headphones, here is the noise-cancelling one that I've been using for a # of years of trans-Pacific & transon flights in coach class / back of the house - since they don't provide Bose or Sennheiser (got a pair of them too, more bulky) - they are not studio or audiophile quality, but strike a balance for price to value and results.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-S...78360736?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item4d15cedea0
Comfortable to wear for extended period of time and paid about $50 for them a while ago, surprised to find them new selling up to $90+ on Amazon, mad crazy & actually appreciated in value. NC feature runs on a single AAA (rechargeable ones don't last as long ) battery for 25 to 30+ hours of run time, but it is perfectly good to use w. power off in a quieter cabin environment (sitting in the back section behind the wings with those huge Rolls Royce or GE engines spinning).
Used or pre-owned ones in good conditions are going for around $30 or so, the foam earpads can be replaced inexpensively & there are "leather" foam pad upgrades available. They fold flat in a pouch and slip easily into my carry-on or backpack for travel - an optional, sturdy protective case is available for. It is strictly for listening & does NOT have in-line mics or controls. Adjustable headband will fit everyone and the mini 3.5mm plug fits easily into the Nexus 5 with the rugged Fintie TPU case.
Running around in town, however - I prefer, however, to use Air-Buds sold online with its flat cord & foam earpieces, see their FB page or visit online sites - when it's on sale, it will cost as little as $25/pair + shipping when buy 2 together (perfect holiday gift too.)

Check out the headphone selection on monoprice.com.
They've typically got good quality for the price, and lots with inline controls.

Koss PortaPros! They are more than $10 but meet every other criteria plus they sound amazing for what they are.

I thought that as well but it seems like whenever I search for earbuds, the in-ear ones come up in searches.

That's because many people don't know the difference.

I think it is because the IEM "in canal" version is mostly what's being made right now.
The old design is inefficient comparatively and can't not achieve the sound volume or quality levels as easily. Bass is also mostly nonexistent without the seal in your ears that the in canal design provides.

I think it would be more dangerous to ride a bicycle with in-ear earphones

Noise isolation is definitely a concern in some situations. Best options are using rubber/silicone tips rather than foam, not inserting therm too deeply, and/or only using one.
Otherwise, go foam and put them deep!

I occasionally have my monster ntune headphones on they don't have have a volume button it but it does have the button to answer calls with built in Mic and that cord is removable so you could get one with the volume rocker and those headphones are just pure beautiful I have the white ones but they come in all different colors

Go bluetooth. I'll gladly recommend my Sony MW600. It's just a little receiver that you can plug your own headphones into. It has a mic, FM radio, and can pair up to three devices. I pretty much use it for anything, including listening to music on my computer. The sound is very good (almost indistinguishable from the 3.5mm jack), and it has volume and track controls which work with pretty much any player.
It's also super light and can go 8 hours of audio, prob a little less for voice comms; standby time is in days. In terms of power draw on the phone, I've noticed that leaving BT on drains about 2% total... which probably saves me power since I don't have to turn on the screen as much.
I got mine for about $50 on Amazon. It comes with its own earphones, but I opted to get a nicer pair (Audio Technica, ckm50a) with short cables. Total cost was under $90.
If you must go the wired route, I would suggest the Ultimate Ears Superfi 5vi. You can go more expensive, but this is probably the cheapest wired headset approaching audiophile quality.
you can get skullcandy headphones with the mic at T-Mobile.
I would say try the Skull Candy 50/50's. I have heard good things about them and thats what ill be purchasing soon. U can get them from radioshack or the direct website for more color choices.

Do the volume control's on the 50/50 work on the Vibrant?
Are there any wired headsets with controls other than the one button (hang-up, start/stop) that work well with the vibrant?

Good ear buds with mic. for under $20

Anybody know of some ear buds with the mic. for $20 or less. I like the stock ones that came with the phone but for some reason only the left side works. I would even settle for the same exact ones , but can't seem to find them anywhere. I am by no means an audiophile but do like a little bass, I mostly listen to podcasts and audiobooks.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Well,if you can go another five bucks,I HIGHLY recommend these stereo bluetooth headphones from,of all companies,jWIN.Thats right,I said jWIN These have gotten excellent reviews at Amazon and elsewhere, praising them for their great sound quality and great battery life.I myself have gotten over 10 hours between two hour charges(charged by plugging into my computer). They even fold down nice and compact when you arent using them, nice. The link is for Amazon(with free shipping),but I have seen them on Buy.com for around $24.00 with free shipping as well.Shop around you might even do better. I think they are worth twice and then some what they are asking for them, for the money you really cant go wrong!Hope this helped
I just realized I cant post a link yet The product you can search for on Amazon is called:"Stereo Bluetooth Backphones",the cheaper of the two that pop up are the ones I'm talking about.
Thanks I'll take a look.

I personally use the razer moray headset. Can be purchased online from ebay for as low as 17.00. Granted they do not have inline controls but they do have inline mic as well as great comfort level and surprisingly good audio quality.

That's weird, one side of my stock set went out too recently (the side with the mic). It puts out aroud 5% volume, barely audible, while the other side is fine. I was thinking about calling T-Mo and complaining to get a new set. I've had mine since July and haven't used them much.
I use these http://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-S2INBI-FZ-Inline-Microphone-Black/dp/B002SW3MP8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1295634861&sr=8-2 and I love them. The bass is deep and tight, and they are ultra comfortable, and the weight of mic does NOT cause the earphone to come outta your ear like some with other heavier mics... people say voice quality is great!
I've never used my original set, pm me if you're interested.
Don't know if they have a Fred Meyers in your neck of the woods. But I bought a pair of Skull Candy headphones w/mic for $19.00. They work decently.

Or just solder an old but good set of earphones onto the cable. The only thing that matters are the drivers producing the sound...the rest are just wires.

[Q] Best wired earbud headset?

I have a Sony Bluetooth earbud headset that is of excellent quality, so I am set on that front. The thing is, it only has six hours of battery life (as most BT headsets do) and often run it down when I'm listening to podcasts and audiobooks while pulling doubles at work. I had the earbuds that came with my Captivate, but they were kind of junky and, honestly, I put them through the washing machine one too many times.
I went on Newegg.com thinking I'd have an easy time choosing the optimal wired earbud headset, but there's a whole universe of them out there, now, and the price has come down on them so much I can't even use that as a benchmarch of quality, anymore.
Does anybody have any good suggestions for a wired earbud headset that has good to excellent sound quality and works particularly well with Android pnones/Samsung Captivate. My price ranges is 50 dollars or less.
Thanks!
I really like the stock ones that came with the Captivate. As a backup I also use the buds from my earlier Sony Ericsson.
Sorry my post was of no help :]

I've been looking for a good durable set as well. Looked on amazon, and it seems that many many people have problems with that headset breaking constantly.

Disclaimer: I'm not really after audio quality. They're earbuds, after all. I just need them to be indestructible or, failing that, cheap enough to be replaced a couple times a year.
The weak points in most earbuds I've owned are the junctions between the miniplug and the cable or the cable and the earbuds. In fact, the supplied Samsung earbuds are pretty decent, except that the miniplug-cable connection wasn't designed to take any stress at all. Sheared that right off in just a week of pulling the phone in and out of my pocket.
To that end, there have been two products I've been pretty happy with:
If you can find them around (eBay), the "Zune Premium Headphones" have outlasted anything else I've ever had. The cable is wrapped in plastic, so it transmits some noise when rubbing against your clothes, but they're incredibly durable. I only stopped using mine because I wanted something with a microphone button, not because they broke.
What I'm currently using are the JLab J3M earbuds. Got them from Amazon for $25 or so. Cable appears to be wrapped like the Zune earbuds and then coated in a clear, rubbery plastic, which has worked out so far. Only had them for about four months, but holding up well. The headset button works reasonably well with Android (I use DroidShuffle to control everything, and Cubed as the actual music player.)

A case of YMMV... I have a pair of V Moda Vibes that I've worn for over 3000 miles of road cycling over the past year. Not a bit of a problem.
I actually have a pair of the ZAGGsmartbuds (yes, the same ZAGG that makes Invisible Shield) that I received as a gift. They are very sturdy (the site has a cool video of a Boston Terrier trying to tear one apart - that alone would sell it for me ) and the volume and button controls work on the Captivate as well. The cord is actually coated with the same material as Invisible Shield.
Sound quality is quite good (compared to some V-Modas and some high end Sony earbuds I had from before) and it retails for a shade under $50 (but I think you can easily find it online for much cheaper).
http://www.zagg.com/audio/smart-buds.php
I've tried lots of different earbuds and I think the stock ones are one of the best under $50. they may not have the most bass but the complete sound range is great, nice and smooth/clear.
$25 Skull Candy set does right by me. Killer sound and I can talk while driving. Covers the basics. Did I mention they sound killer? The sound is great and they sound awesome too.
Best Wired Headphone on the Market!
Skullcandy (Full Metal Jacket) FMJ. You can check out this products here: http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/all-products/headphones.html?limit=all&cat=6
but you can pick up brand new ones on ebay for $20-$40. They have an in-line mic, you can work the music player with a toggle on the wire, they they are LOUD and HIGH QUALITY music. Check them out, you would be disappointed.

That may be true, but they seem to have close to a 50/50 fail rate. Waaaay to high for me.
If you're going to buy skullcandy, don't get more than the inkd line. They arent great on the first place and it seems like the higher you go in the line up the worse they sound.
The ones I have have lasted for two or three years now.
They aren't the best thing ever SQ-wise, but they do isolate well enough, and that's important to me when riding to and from school/work.
Just my opinion.

I use Sony's MDR-EX57LP/BLK. They are mostly noise canceling and I found mine at walmart for about $40. Great bass and ok highs.
Hippo Pearl if your after balanced and an all rounder. Got e'm for around $20. Best pair of earbuds I've had.
Swyped from my Froyo-ed Captivate.
ive got a set of meelectronics from newegg that have been awesome as far as sound goes, otherwise the mic has been questionable at best can't tell if its the rom or the headset itself. btw it was cheap as hell too 10 bucks or something.
I've had good luck with the skull candy full metal jackets but I think the ink'd sound slightly cleaner but the longest I have used them is two months before I catch them on something. If I don't need a mic I use Shure e2c's.

I've never had that problem. I run my wire through my shirt. Also helps to get rid of microphonics.
Im about to "upgrade" to a bluetooth set. Hopefully it will be on par with what im currently using. But im willing to sacrifice a little SQ for the peace of mind. I use an otterbox defender so the headphone jack is partially blocked off.
I just hope it isn't TOO bad because I really like my belt clip.

Looking for a Pair of Earbuds (NOT "In-Ear")

I'm looking for a Pair of Earbuds similar to the white ones that come with the iPhone/iPod Touch. I don't like the "in-ear" ones with the rubber tips that go inside the ear canal. I find them to be uncomfortable and they tend to slip off without much effort. Audio quality is not really a huge issue from me. I mean, I'm no audiophile but I don't want it to sound horrible either. Also, price is not a big concern. The reason why I don't use the iPhone ones is because of the poor build quality. I've searched around but can't find anything I like so I thought I'd ask here thanks in advance!

I'm not too familiar with good quality earbuds, but you should consider that with foam tips, in ear headphones can be very comfortable and stay in place well. The stock silicon ones are usually itchy to me, but the foams are nice and I barely notice my earphones are even in. Extra bonus is added noise isolation.
Just food for thought. Oh, and I'd stay away from all things Beats.

I'm using some Shure's with the Shure black foam "Olives". To fit them in, roll the tip to compress them, then stick the IEM (in ear monitor) in your ear, and hold it for a second. Also, using the kind that runs the cable over the top/back of the ear helps then stay secure.
You might have used a size you small.
Incidentally, Skull Candy never has impressed me either, lol.
www.head-fi.org is the best place to go to research and learn. You might just find the perfect pair of IEMs for cheaper than you think, and then spend a little bit on Shure or Comply foams, and be happy until you realize that even MORE expensive earphones intrigue you.

Skull Candy and Beats are pretty much a waste as you can get much better quality for the same price. If you just want an everyday brand that's worth the cash Sony is great. The ones I have are excellent sound-wise; the only issue with in-ear headphones is that they can lead to a lot of build-up from actually pushing wax back into your ear canal.
That is true. I q-tip my ears daily to eliminate buildup getting into mine.
Also, a little expensive, and I know very little about them, but I did find high quality earbuds fun a respected brand.

SGS3 and Sony MH1C compatibility

Hi guys,
I want to order miracle playing headset Sony MH1C. Did anybody buy them as Im interested in control buttons and 3,5mm jack compatibility with our beloved SGS3.
Many thanks in advice.:cyclops:
They work great with the S3. The play/pause and volume buttons work with the media player, and the sound quality is outstanding. Three times I have spent more than a hundred bucks on headphones and I like these better than 2 of them. Those being the Re0 and the Triple Fi TF10's.
I bought the oem kit for $20. Last I checked the price had gone up to $27 on Amazon and ebay because of the excellent reviews. Good luck!

They work great with the S3. The play/pause and volume buttons work with the media player, and the sound quality is outstanding. Three times I have spent more than a hundred bucks on headphones and I like these better than 2 of them. Those being the Re0 and the Triple Fi TF10's.

Thanks man I red that it has excellent sound in some reviews...in my country the bulk package costed only around $18 but after one review everybody wanted it and now it costs more than $30 and its out of stock I ordered it on ebay for $26...on amazon the low-price package is out of stock too and there are only expensive ones anyway thank you for the compatibility review nice to hear that the play/pause button works...what about next-previous track function?
Besides the play/pause buttons there's only two buttons for volume control and one button unique to Sony phones. There's no dedicated next track or last track buttons.
I don't know if it's possible to reprogram the buttons in an app but usually double clicking the pause button will take you to the next track.
Ok thank you I will try it then there are several programs for controling music players through the buttons on headphones...

Just want to THANK YOU Sony MH1C is the best headset up to $100. It plays clear music after burnout for around 60-80 hours and still good amount of bass. And as I said it plays better than in-ears in price range around $100... It has full functional control buttons for play/pause, next/previous song and ofcourse volume buttons. Only drawback is cable which is tought but when you find out how them wear WOOHOO I listening FLAC with Jetaudio basic its the best free music player nowadays...
I'm looking to buy these to use with my S3. Where's the cheapest I can get them (shipped to the US)? Seems like the prices have gone up recently..

You're quite welcome. I'm glad you like them as much as I do. I think they are the best value in audio I have ever come across.
As for price, the cheapest place to get them is on ebay if you don't care about retail packaging.
Just bought bought them cause of your reviews 35 usd which was 27,5 € on ebay.com there is only one selling them right nowfrom hHong Kong but he has only good reviews for this product so I guess it will be fine only stupid thing is the long shipping time, but I still have my Samsung ones so not that much of a problem.
Thx for reviews im excited to test them.
Man, the sound quality is great but the remote is in an awkward location and the buds pop out of my ear quite often, unfortunately.

Same, the remote is quite bulky and heavy, which doesn't help since it uses a j-cord cable which pisses me off so much. Wore these for about 5 minutes on my walk to the bus stop, both buds were loose by the time I got there. Annoying because they're good for the price. I might just splash out on something that comes with a Y-cord instead and warranty too.
Today mine arrived, like the other people said these headphones have awesome sound. I never had expensive in ear headphones but i could imagine that you can get the same quality for more than 100$. They feel comfy for now about the popping out of my ears i cant tell anything cause i was only sitting till now
I always head my headphones in my pocket but i guess this is not the best way to treat such a good product. Does anyone of you know a good case which still fits in jeans pockets? Link would be great.
Cheers

Even with a Y-cord, I think they would still come out of your ears. I have a set of mx310lps which also have a J-cord, and they never fall out of my ears.
I've got a few Y cords and they are perfect. Only ever had issues with J Cords

Anyone got an Idea for this?
i want to purchase this but the end is L shaped, which will be awkward and not to mention that it won't fit all the way on my otter box case.
Anyone knows a good reliable / cheap shop?
Prices are crazy except the hong kong shops (bulk items).
I'm facing problem with music playback.
When I listen to music with these headphones and lock the screen the music stops playing and the player gets closed (Google music and jet audio basic). Can anyone reproduce and tell me how to solve thisI guess it is related to usus in the stop and play button while on lock screen or something like that, I don't know how exactly it happend but it is really annoying.
Greetings
