Does anyone know if there are any three button headsets that will work? Or is the moto x like the nexus 4? (In that it only supports single button) I have a Nokia 3 button headset that worked with my gs4 and htc one x. But none of the buttons work with the moto x. Even the middle buttons on my iPhone headsets work with the moto x.
I am bummed the buttons don't work on this Nokia set as they are the best sounding headphones I have ever used.

I have the beat mixrs and it has three buttons but the volume up and down buttons don't work. Only the middle button works. Single click play and pause, double click skip to next song, and long click touchless controls. I know like jays audio controller and headset button control allow you to configure the single button based on clicks.

Seeing as the ones I have in my ears, from the Motorola site last week, in Olive, so they're the M4DE ones, have only 1 button, I think I'm qualified to say that yes... they are.

I noticed that Amazon sells that same headphone in a 3 button model. Which leads me to believe that the Moto X simply does not support three buttons. I was hoping someone would chime in to refute that. But it looks like that isn't gonna happen

Yeah the original photos on motos site showed a 3 button. I tried getting confirmation from Sol and Moto but no one ever responded. Then a few weeks later the photos changed and no longer made mention of a 3 button remote, only a remote.

I am having the same problem here. I tried 3 pairs of 3-button headsets, none of them works. I also tried a single button headset, still can't take/end call with it. I read a dozen of reviews before I bought the phone, none of them mentions this this. This is almost a deal breaker for me as I rely heavily on headsets, does any one know if a Motorola headset will work?

fwiw, I decided to go with a bluetooth headset. I bought a sennheiser mx400. It's over the ear, instead of in ear. And it's expensive. But the sound quality is superb. The controls all work great. And they are very compact (compared to previous over the ear headphones I have tried)
I just got a pair of SOL jax (spearmint), which sound great btw, and there is sadly only one button. I thought there would be 3, but w.e not a big deal for me.
I wish someone could confirm that the Jays work. My buddy is selling him for cheap...

I have a pair of the Jaybird Blue Buds X with my Moto X. It has 3 buttons (volume up and down and main button for play/pause or answer/hang up call). They sound fantastic and works perfectly with Moto X. Sweat proof too. Plus 8 hours of use. Good luck.
I'm pretty sure the 3 button wired control is a Apple-only design. Android can only utilize a single button and the mic on WIRED but with bluetooth, ALL buttons will work. There are some ways to navigate the limitation, but you will always be stuck to the single button remote. You can download the Klipsch app to do volume with certain button presses (long short will turn it up I think?).

I think you are right, as far as STOCK android.
However, on HTC and Samsung skins, 3-buttons do work. I have several three button wired headsets, and all three buttons worked on my Galaxy S4 and HTC One X. However, they have to be android specific 3-button headsets. The volume buttons on apple specific headsets would not work on my GS4 or OneX.
I use the Sabotage Royale from Degauss Labs. 3-button Android and works perfect with my Android headset. I think that the standard set by Apple has made more produce Apple 3-button headsets. For Android there are not that many.
You got all of their headsets in Android version which is pretty unusual. Their Pocket starts at 25USD..

The problem with making 3 button remotes for Android is that no one can agree on a standard. HTC uses 1 standard (Control Talk), Samsung uses another (proprietary), Sony and Moto use ones different from that (if they support it at all). Apple has their own proprietary that no one can use because of patents/licensing. I read a long while back that the Android guys are using resistors (ohm changes) where as Apple is using diodes (voltage change) or maybe it was the other way around. But either way, thats why the volume/track controls from one don't work on the other.

Currently, only one button headphones work with android. Three button headphones only work with Apple devices. As i understand, this is a limitation of the Android OS, though i wonder how hard would it be for a dev to patch this functionality.
Most 3rd party players from the market (doubletwist, poweramp) have built-in controls so that you can play/pause/skip/etc via the one single button.
I am using a pair of Shure SE535 with my phone and only my center button works, the other two don't function.

S4a has only one button, though it can be assigned multiple commands using the free Klipsch Control software from the market - you can customize the button, including double-press, etc.
I haven't used the controls much yet but they work with the Galaxy Nexus, which was not the case from my old Galaxy S. the sound is quite good from these headphones.

Not true - the iBeats that come with the Rezound work perfectly. Problem is, I can't find any Monster iBeats that have the three button control, all of the ControlTalk ones I find are single button.
Anyone have a link to the iBeats as sold with the Rezound? In Google Music (only app I tested them with), play/pause and track/forward back worked as it should.

Agree, I get mine for 50% off and I love them. They are just.. well amazing.
Got a pair of Sol Republic Amps that work. Three button remote, Play/Pause (Double tap = Next, Triple = Prev), and then volume controls.

fyi who ever tells you to buy the ibeats by Dr. Dre are not doing you a favor. The sound quality on those headphones is terrible. I bought them and returned them within an hour. My $17 Phillips ones sound better then the ibeats. They are the worst headphones I have ever tried. Also they were not defective I had them exchanged as well before I returned them. They don't get loud at all.
I highly recommend this headset. Comfortable and high quality. Works better than expected.

Bonus of the S4i is that it'll still work to use with my iPod shuffle (relax, I only use it for working out)

I just picked up a pair today from BB an hour away from my location. They were only available there. So far, loving the crispness of these, and just wondering what you did to get the volume control to work?
Btw I bought these because I went through all these headphones and these were the only ones that looked really good at a great price. And you said they worked with all the buttons. If not it's no big deal, I'll just return them and find something else. Plus the bass is really lacking, I read it in the reviews but didn't think it would be this flat

Sell them and get the klipsch s4a that are made for android just as good if not better sound quality.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
actually, no don't sell them for a klipsch s4a set, because you will run into the same (if not worse) problems. you aren't going to get any better than what you have right now. all idevice headsets function fine as one button headsets. doing my own searching has told me that a special circuit board in the controls is the only way to get any headset working like an idevice set. and even then it would be no guarantee. samsung has their headphone jack wired a little differently so even any headset made for android devices would have trouble here.
it isn't just the klipsch s4a i'm talking about here. it's all the android headsets with all samsungs running android. maybe samsung will release a 3 button headset or someone would produce an adapter that will fix that problem. either way i wouldn't go around selling anything just yet.

In general, the headphone with mic and controllers branded "for iphone" work also for android. Of course, it is a bit risky.

QFT. Having previously wired custom iphone headsets (and seen other posts regarding it), they will not work on android.
Buy a single-button iphone headset and Headphone Control (or jays headphone app) from the market.
Seriously though, the DAC on the GNote is bad enough that the Bluetooth audio was really not much worse than the headphone out. And I'm an audiophile
Finally please be aware that even though headsets will be marketed as compatible with both only the center button will work. You need Android specific volume controls
Maybe this is not answer you looking for,
But i'm using Poweramp apps and i can use gnote included headset's buttons to control volume, skip track or stop player.
any of the bluetooth solutions work well. I have the sony MW600 and also a pair of sennheiser BT headphones and both have headphone based volume, as well as buttons for pause, fwd, rewind.
just keep the device on max vol and adjust your headphone volume with the buttons.
there is also the new apt-x samsung dongle (hs3000? 300?) but unfortunately the note doesnt support apt-x (yet?)

I use the above mentioned Jabra and it works like a charm...
Thanks everyone for your advice. The jabra bt3030 arrived today (25 euros delivered on ebay in Spain). Just went out for my first jog with it and it worked perfectly. The great thing about this solution is I can use the headphones of my choice.

There's a thread over in the international forums about this, but nothing (that I found) over here in the US forums.
I'm looking for a reasonably cheap (but I'm flexible) pair of headphones that include in-line audio controls.
It's my understanding that the standard urbeats headphones (like the ones that come with the Rezound) work, although it'd be great to see someone confirm this 100%. My problem with them is that they're butt-ugly. They do have a version with white accents, but it still has that ugly red cable.

I'm looking for something with a little bit nicer look to it, like the a-JAYS series. My problem with that is that they only have 2 versions with audio controls... The a-JAYS One+) should work fine (made for Android specifically), but I'm not a fan of the 1-button. I know they have a free app to configure what it does, but I don't want to have to, for example, press the button 3 times to advance songs or something like that.
They also make the a-JAYS Four which comes with the apple-style 3-button controls (and even comes in a white version, which would look sweet with the white SGSIII). But from what I understand, those controls don't work with Android. Confirm?
I'm no audiophille, so even cheap-o headphones like the official apple ones would be fine with me if they actually worked.
Does anyone know of any adapters that would make these, or perhaps the a-JAYS Four (since they're way cooler), actually work?
Like I said above, I'm not not an audiophille so I'm not really picky about quality. I've been using these for the past 4-ish years:
so you know how much I really don't care about quality.
I don't mind something cheap, as long as it get's the job done. If there's some cheap adapter that might look funny but will work then I'm all for it. But, if I'm going to be paying a lot, I want it to actually look nice... which is why I'm turned off by the urbeats. I really like the style of the a-JAYS (especially the flat tangle-free cable).
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
(P.S. I don't want headphones, per se (despite the thread title). I want earbuds... and I don't care if they're the in-ear type, or the outer-ear type (like the apple ones, or the ones I'm currently using)

Thanks. Good to know.
Any idea if third-party tips will fit on these? I always find the cheap silicone tips that come with these sorts of headphones to be a little uncomfortable. I'd rather get some Comply foam tips but don't know if they're compatible.

Thanks for confirming that. I'll probably end up sticking with the included ones, but it's good to know.
I sent an email to the people at Comply to see if they can investigate which (if any) of their tip models are compatible with the SGSIII included headphones
I have never used the Comply tips but if their tips work with other in ears that have the silicone tips then they should fit. I've used a lot of these style IEM and all the tips have been interchangeable. Sennheiser, Sony, LG, Altec Lansing and the Samsung ones...

I actually like both of the headphones that comes with the Galaxy S phones. Majority of the time I am using BT headsets anyways.
I am obsessed with my beloved V-Moda headset. Unfortunately the buttons nor mic work on my S3. They worked on my Sensation - well the volume didn't but everything else did.
I ordered an iPhone to Samsung/Nokia adapter pigtail (4") that claims it will make it work. I'll post back if it arrives on Friday as promised.
I hate that my ibeats headphones dont work with my SGS3. Worked perfect on my SGS2 w/ CM9 so Im hoping the CM team implements it for the GSG3...

I feel the same about it...they blow but for free...can't really complain cause it's def a lot better than the ZUNE or iPod earphones...which are meant for audio playback, lol.

It's relative I suppose. If you wanted to use it as a phone (I guess some people might buy it for that) the supplied headset would be fine. And they are LIGHT YEARS ahead of the joke buds that apple supplies. But if you're expecting them to compete with your $100+ 20K Hz range headphones... economies of scale don't stretch that far. Look at the economic calamity that was HTC and giving away Beats headphones.
So in the grand scheme of things lets give apple a D for effort and a F for execution - which I think is quite reasonable and fair. That makes Samsung's free headset an A for effort and a C for execution. Not too bad really.
so glad I found this thread, hopefully it'll continue and collect more peoples experiences on what works and what doesn't...
i have the gs3 16 blue from sprint. the headphones in the box do work, and have 3 button controls that function as they should. that being said, i think they suck (agree with you other poster - sound is hollow). i'm not some crazy audiophile or anything, but i really think they suck. that and i hate the marshmallow type "here jam this way into your ear for more bass!" tips on them.
i also have the bose (yes yes, proceed with the mocking) headset with 3 button controls. i much prefer the sound and fit (well the sound is OK, and yes they are over priced, they were a gift). mostly the fit keeps me going back to them. unfortunately only the center control works. and for whatever reason, the sound only works when you plug the phone in after you've initiated a call (e.g. call person, while ringing plus headset in). the sound will not work for calls unless you plug it after nitiating the call. watching a video, listening to an mp3, no problem. headset sound works. very odd. in any case my summary is, the bose functionality on the gs3 blows, which is in stark contrast to my evo 4g - where they worked wonderflly (minus the full 3 button, only center button works for android). no issues with the mic there, or the sound.
i also have the "headset button controller" app from the store. it's pay. gives much greater control over the single button on 3 button iphone style headsets. for anyone stuck with one and android it's very helpful. but it does lead you to "click 3 times for this" "click 4 times for that" "click and hold" etc etc. cause hey, its only one button. winamp also gives some of the same functionality out of the box once installed (click 3 times for prior track, for example) and used.
i'm still looking for a good headset with mic and 3 button for this phone. so glad i found this thread. looks like htc headsets may be the way to go...hopefully mor epeople will post about their experiences with different headsets here.
Regarding the in-box headphones... as I'm thinking about this more, I'm realizing that a lot of people either (a) don't like these headphones, or (b) already have a $100+ pair of headphones and would therefore not use these headphones.
Given that, if there's anyone out there who already has a $100+ pair of headphones and doesn't want the ones that come in-box, I'd be very interested in a second set for my desk at work
I'd of course cover the shipping costs, plus $5 for your trouble I suppose. PM me if anyone is interested.
If want great sounding in ear with control for s3 try Sony smart headset

If you already have beats solo or studio but want the cable that make mic and volume control work pm

I got the FiiO Smart Adaptor [sic] Cable and can report that it is an unmitigated failure. None of the missing functions work and it messes up the audio.
I cannot figure out what the heck Samsung has done. It seems pins 2-4 are indeed standard. This implies that pin 4 is... well the only place left for pin 4 to be.
But regardless this adapter is NOT the right choice. Don't buy it.
Hey guys
I've tried alot of earphones
iBeats
BeatsPro with CT
Sennheiser MM30i etc.etc.
None of the volume +/- buttons work, but it works perfectly on iphone...
Anyone got any ideas, links etc for a pair of earphones?
Besides that, earphone thread!
What earphones do you use with the Z1? Is it good?
I'm using sony's SBH50 and i really enjoy them.
The iOS headsets don't work because there is some chip in them that controls the buttons which works only with iOS, the call button works without it.

it doesn't work with my iBeats sadly... thanks for the input tho I'll try on my sennheisers later
I bought the Sony Earbuds (MDREX100IP) and obviously they don't work with volume keys. That is just ridiculous. You spend a lot of money for one if the most expensive phone out there and you cannot get the most basics functions. Just sick.

Hi,
I've got a Bose ae2 headset and the same problem: volume keys do work on ios but not on android, whatever your device is.
I've tried several smartphones (htc, Samsung, sony) and none of them handle those keys.
I've also tried Smart Keys but i don't see any option relevant to volume keys.
I quit trying to solve that because i think it's just hardware, on the headset side.
Maybe with the fact that Android devices greatly outnumber ios devices, sennheiser, bose and others will reconsider this problem on future models.

Most earbuds tend to be programmed specifically for Apple devices, unfortunately.

This right here :good:
Wut
I'm using the earphones that came with my sister's s4. All of the buttons work with ALL functions (pause, play, vol +, vol -, double tap next song, triple tap previous song, long press setting)
Asked this question on Google+ and other Xperia owners mentioned the Sony Smart Headset MH1C will work with Z1, with all functions (mic, play/pause, track changes, volume). Sadly, this headset appears to be have been discontinued but you might be able to find on Ebay.
I find it somewhat ridiculous that Android smartphones can't agree on some sort of standard, like there is on iPhone/iPod. The one thing I miss most when I switched from iPhone to my Z1 is the inability to control the volume on my headphone remote. And trying to find a compatible set is nearly impossible, whereas every headphone maker out there makes compatible sets for iPhone/iPod, including Sony themselves!
I have the MH1C, as it came with my phone and can confirm that it works no problem. All buttons including vol down, vol up, answer/play/pause as well as the mic function properly.
Has any of you heard or tried Fiio LU2 adapter?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fiio-LU2-Ad...e=UTF8&qid=1388794076&sr=1-1&keywords=fiio+lu
I have not had a chance to test it myself and there are mixed reviews about it. Supposedly it does exactly what you need, meaning you can use iphone earphones on android phones.

I am actually using Sennheiser MM70s. I find it to be a very good solution for my xperia z1, the control button works perfectly (next song, last song, pause/play, long press, ...). In addition, its volume button works on its own (it is not controlling the Xperia's volume, but controlling the headphone's volume instead).
I leave the phone volume at 40-50% then controll the output from the headphones.
The sound quality is amazing (specially the bass response),The mic quality is excellent as well.

Thanks for the heads up, might invest in a pair or two of them... (got a alot of earphones already but whatever )
I'll buy the Sony Smart Headset MH1C when I get my Z1 back, thanks @richardchiu
I'll report if it works!
Sony Xperia Z1 refuses all Apple headphones. But most brand headphones can work for Z1.

Absolutely love them. Volume buttons work flawlessly.
Be sure to buy the original ones!

SmartKey
Well, I use Smart Key app, in order to get the earphone button configured the way i want it too. It is not the most complete option, but it worked fine to me.
