How do I unlock a galaxy s4 (SCH-R970) - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to unlock a galaxy s4 from us cellular. I've tried the code method and nothing happens. I heard I could root it and install a ROM but idk if that would work. Can someone please help
