i have installed 2.6.3 successfully and it works very well. yes you can flash a rom with this but with bootloader unlocked and root first. follow the steps, just do a search for unlock and root. once that's done, then you can download and install a rom. i'm using carbon rom from oblikas.

Thanks

[S-On][Guide]CMW+CM7.2 Installation Guide.

Hi all,
I just purchased a HTC Wildfire S and was playing around with it.
- I unlocked the bootloader via HTC Dev
I read all over the forum that its not possible to install custom roms on [S-On]??
**NOTE THAT IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE!! DO NOT HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!**
But I found this post that a user successfully installed CMW and rom on [S-On]
Thanks to shaarky's for his Fastboot method, I was able to install CMW and flash custom rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21104317&postcount=76
CM7.2 booted up and seemed to kept root as well!
Not 100% sure if this is truly 100% working.. but will be testing it out in the next few days.
-CMW 5.0.2.6 Installed
-ROM Manager Installed
-CM 7.2.0-RC0-marvel-KANG (2.3.7) / 7.1.0 Stable ROM Installed
I will be writing a guide soon, stay tuned.
P.S. If a Guide already exist, I will gladly delete this thread!.
For Those impatient to wait.. here's a quick steps to what I did to acheive this:
**NOTE THAT IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE!! DO NOT HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!**
-Unlock bootloader using HTC tool
-used "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to flash recovery
-rebooted
-installed ROM Manager
-Get Temp Root via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342288
-Reboot to Recovery using ROM Manager
-Nandroid Backup
-Flash Rom
-Boot to Fastboot
-Factory Reset
-Reboot

As mentioned in the earlier post - old news! S-off and unlocked means you can install custom roms and recovery.
BTW there are cm7 nightlys as well. These seem stable. I'm on nightly from 15feb

Yes, even installing custom roms/recoveries/kernels.

just take a look around.
Thank you all, I was totally confused and now I get it.
Thanks!
And sorry for being a newb

Flashing S3V3N's ROM

I can't flash clockworkmod recovery provided on that page. I install the .apk then flash recovery and then reboot recovery but it just does a normal reboot. I saw there is TWRP recovery. Can I flash the ROM through TWRP? I asked on the ROM page but nobody told me a solution. Does someone have a clue why I can't flash clockworkmod recovery or if I can flash it through TWRP recovery?
Would be helpful to give some information as Most variants have a locked boot loader and can't install a recovery.

yes.
maybe you remove the permission for recovery installer from supersu app and grant new permission when you install recovery?!
S3v3n mod is for d855 running 10h stock only.
You need first to root device using purple drake lite, then install CWM IPK and then run it from same IPK,then having s3v3n mod on Device storage, select install zip, aroma installer starts you select options and install.

Pretty much simple if you already have TWRP. Just follow the instructions in thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-cloudyg3-1-0-t2917467
That is: download ROM, go to TWRP, make backups, full wipe, flash ROM.
If you want you can flash latest TWRP. Idk which version do you have? Does the one you have offer to back up modem? If not get the latest one for just in case.

Rooting 6.0 M8

Hey guys,
Newbie here, looking to root my M8 running on Android 6.0
I've been reading a bit and came across first unlocking bootloader, any of you guys know what to do afterwards on 6.0 since the guides I've read are on M8s running 4.4 and 5.0?
I want to flash RESURRECTION REMIX v5.8.2, any help pls?
Also, does anyone know if this ROM supports Substratum theme engine?
Thanks a lot in advance guys!
To be clear, there is a difference between just rooting (stock ROM), and process for flashing a custom ROM. Main reason for confusion, is that you do not need to root in order to flash a custom ROM (contrary to some other devices). You simply need an unlocked bootloader, and custom recovery TWRP.
Before you unlock the bootloader, backup any of your data (off-phone to computer, SD, etc.) you want to keep; as the phone will be wiped when you unlock the bootloader.
After unlocking the bootloader, just flash TWRP using fastboot. You should use current TWRP version, which is 3.1.0-0 which you can get here: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
After that, just put the desired ROM on the phone, boot into TWRP, backup your current (stock) ROM (in case you want or need to revert) then do default wipe in TWRP (data, Dalvik, cache) and install the ROM.
I don't know if RR supports substratum. Just check or search the RR ROM thread.
Also, questions should be posted to the Q&A section, not General. So I'll ask the mods to move this thread.

Hi,
I'm trying to install custom rom (the same one) on my device as well. Do I need a different kernel or S-off in order to flash the ROM? i would like to modify my phone as little as possible in order to avoid any possibility of a hard brick. tnx

if you want to flash custom rom you only need unlocked bootloader + twrp installed
no need for another kernel or s-off

To be clear, the kernel flashes with the ROM on this device, and that is true with s-on.
There are older HTC devices, where you had to flash the kernel separately by fastboot, or have s-off (in which case, kernel would flash with the ROM). But none of this ever applied to the M8.

Thanks for the clarification, that's probably why i got confused (watched some older video on rooting, kernel, c roms and so on). So which parts of software (or hardware) would you want to manipulate with or change that would require s-off?

Always be sure to research the root/mod methods for your specific device (not just another HTC phone, etc.). Every phone has its own peculiarities and nuances.

There is a number of modifications that require s-off, such as changing CID/MID, flashing modified hboots, manually flashing radios, flashing older version RUU ("downgrading") and a number of other things.
But for root, flashing ROMs, and most other common mods, just having an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery TWRP and s-on is enough.
Hi,
My question is the same, how to root HTC ONE M8,
However, I installed a Custom WOLLA.SENSE7.MM.V3 using this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/progress-fuu-m8-t2813792/
What is the best/safest method to root now.

Edit: Precisely when trying to install Xposed Installer: (Failed to get root access)

This is what I get when trying to install Xposed Installer (Attached Screenshots).

Why you need to install xposed while you don't know about it ?
Flash in recovery by boot to recovery and tap install then navigate to the .zip location in storage and sweep to confirm that's how to flash a .zip from twrp

Although, what I was asking about, since the Isntalled Rom is already pre-rooted, why do I need a full flash using TWRP again.

Root and xposed is tow different things you need root for something and xposed for a different thing
for example you don't need root to have a working xposed framework ( some modules require root though )
So it's up to you and what you will use
We can tell you what you have to do if you tell us what you up to

What I think he meant was: if you want to use Xposed, read and understand about it first. You should have read the basic instructions on how to install it.

In order for xposed to work, you need to flash the xposed framework using TWRP, period. It's not complicated, and it's stated in the instructions clearly.

I am a bit confused here, the situation is like this: I need Xposed installed in order to use some modules mainly (Xprivacy..).
I have tried to install TWRP using Adb (Attached) which I assume it wasn't successful so far.
how to proceed now.

Fire TV 2 Sloan Stock Rom (unroot)

Hello,
I got 2 Sloans from ebay that I had to do this procedure on https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unbrick-root-twrp-fire-tv-2-sloane.3986303/ in order to get them up and running and they are, they are now running latest rooted rom from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/firetv-2-sloane-prerooted-stock-images-5-2-7-6_r1.3309783/ .
Which is great ! thank you XDA once again !
But I want to unroot and run latest stock rom which seems to be 5.2.8.0 (671761720). I tried all procedures to force it to update OTA, but it refuses and always says up to date.
Also reason for unrooting is some apps like peacock just refuse to work...
From what I understand I can just flash the stock unrooted rom via TWRP, but for the life of me I can not find the stock roms, or even a rooted latest ROM.
Any help is really appreciated ! TIA

Hi,
I would recommend you to use this procedure now that you have TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-root-twrp-unbrick-firetv-2-sloane.4222331/

Really appreciate the reply. I tried the first link, and that didnt help, but I see the links to the original firmware so i might just try to install it via recovery.
I was able to unroot by flushing one of those roms and recovery is gone now as well. But it still does not go to the latest firmware... weird.
