[Q] KToonsez on Hyperdrive - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I know that you can put KT kernel to Hyperdrive but I've heard there were some problems regarding certain functions in camera and etc. Has anyone tried it and run into any issues using 4.2.2 versions? Want to get an idea of whats out there before jumping. The KT thread mostly talked about Verizon users and this phone I'll be flashing is on Tmo.

[Q] kernel flashing 101

First the basics, I have a Galaxy S III from tmo and I am well introduced into the concept of "rooting". In fact, all I can do with my phone (and with other people's phones too) is flash, flash, flash. I recently switched from the latest Synergy rom to the latest Hyperdrive Rom and as far as I'm concerned the Hyperdrive rom beats any other rom by a long shot (its only based on my experience, correct me if I'm wrong and there is a better rom I should try.)
The one thing I most certainly miss though from the Synergy rom is the Ziggy kernel, which I'm aware has only recently been working with T-Mobile phones. I still have the Synergy.zip and I think it would be an interesting idea to take out the file for the ziggy kernel, put it in the same location the Hyperdrive.zip has its kernels and flash it, though I have a feeling it takes more than that and I do not want to run the risk of bricking my phone. Yes, this is a question and I would like to be helped by more experienced folk.
If that method in theory is not possible, would it be easier to just flash the kernel by itself? Im currently running the tmo stock kernel btw.
We flash AT&T and T-Mo kernels. I suspect that flashing another d2 kernel would not hard brick the phone. Soft brick probable.

Why flash 4.3 OTA Baseband ?

I am avoiding the Knox OTA and have flashed OTA based ROM without the new baseband.
While there is a mod with a combination of 4.3 baseband and 4.2 LTE, I would like to know if there is any benefit in doing that - given the problems a number of posters have run into ? The Stock odexed ROM seems to run Ok without.
Here is how you do it. For me I just like having the newest baseband. But, it stands to reason they improve over time. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612

I was referring to that thread and was wondering what the benefits of the new baseband might be. Should have also asked if there are no problems with it on 4.3 ROMs, will there be any issues restoring 4.2 nandroids after ODINing the modem?

Their would be no problems if you odined the modems, only if you had the new bootloader.
I think the OP is shooting for an answer to "Does the new baseband improve signal quality" or "MAke the battery last for like a decade" or anything like that.
I have no idea because I've not tried it. But I'd certainly be interested in the answer.
It improved signal on my end. On some ROMs the signal would drop also when the phone goes to sleep and this helps with that too.
One other thing is I'm seeing Lte where I wasn't before (but I don't know if that's because of the modem or they are improving around here).
I don't know about battery life yet though.

I would settle for a year on the battery - lol.
I have not read anything so far that answers this, and there is a mixed bag with respect to issues after flashing only the 4.3 GSM modem. I am more concerned with the latter.
I flashed the "ROM] [STOCK] M919UVUEMK2 | 4.3 | Deodexed | CIQ Free | KNOX Free" with no issues on MDL and ran pretty good. Only issue initially is was not able to get the Wallet Mod to work on it (since it was Deodexed thought it would work, as deodexed is specified in the MOD thread), but no luck. I seems to break NFC - maybe why OP of Omega thread gave up on it.
When this gets sorted out, you might update the OP of your thread, as everyone who does not accept the OTA will have to deal with this.
I have the Wicked ROM v7 with the 4.3 modem and the 4.2.2 LTE installed on my phone. Along with the latest Ktoonsez kernel, I've notice a decent improvement on my mobile signal. My Wi-Fi signal works as well without any issues. I recommend that you try it and see what results you get.

I had ODIN'd the 4.3 modem before I read your reply.
I am on Wicked v8 and kT kernel plus also duel boot 4.4 and believe I have seen some improvements also. I was more concerned abut some of the issues some had run into and have not had any so far.

TMO T999L questions

Hello I have a couple questions about my T999L I am running a stock deodexed rom but the baseband and the build #s don't match baseband is MK4 and build MK7 is this a problem ? Also I am on version 4.1.2 I would like to get up to a custom 4.3 Rom what ones can I use? I had to come back to this because my wifi wouldn't work? thank for any help.
Its quiet possible that you had different Modem than your Rom. No issues. It sounds like you got this phone from someone else. They may not have flashed insecure kernel. That's the reason for Wi-Fi Not Working.
So long you don't have signal issues, its fine to keep that modem. As to 4.3 Roms, there's plenty to choose from.

I9505 kernel

I have heard of some people using kernels from the i9505 forum and was wondering how do you do that? I flashed a couple and can't seem to get the wifi working am I missing something? I am on stock 4.3 and wanted to try something other than KT kernel.
Thanks
bump?

[Q] Advice on ROMs ?

Ok,
I have a question that I am embarrassed to ask, because I feel like I should have been able to just do the research myself... (I am a newb... but not a complete newb!) ....
But after spending most of the day ( over 5 hours...) I am just frustrated and confused.... so I figured I would admit my ignorance, and ask for advice. (PLEASE.. if this is the wrong place to post this, please tell me where to do so.. I do not want to spam a bunch of different thread so I am only posting here, unless told to go elsewhere....)
I have an unlocked and rooted tmoble Note 3 (love it!!!).
Currently Using wicked rom
Details:
Android version 4.3
Baseband ver N900TUVUBMI7
Kernel ver 3.4.0-670611
[email protected] #1
Fri Sept 13 23:45:38 KST 2013
Build number wicked_N3v5
SEWLinux status Enforcing.
SO.. when i got my note 3 a while ago, I unlocked/rooted/ROM'd it.. with wicked rom... which I love!!!
... but recently I have been having issues with my phone... and I have noticed that "wicked" does not have any updates or even any posts in its thread in the last 2 years.
My issues have been occasional random reboots, the GPS getting flaky, as well as random notifications about various apps no longer working .
I attribute some of these issues to when my battery ran low... and died during a reboot... (seems to have started after that).
So my question: I would like to do a clean re-install... and need to figure out what ROM is best for me. I keep seeing roms that LOOK awesome.. but then as I read there threads, see things like "hotspot does not work" etc....
What I NEED:
1)Working hot spot !(prefer it does not report usage)
2) Prefer touchwiz (Still learning the stylus... but that what makes the note a note!!)
3) WORKING GPS
4) STABLE
Would LIKE:
1) No bloatware!
2) Not report hotspot usage to carrier
3) Simple instruction to install (and be told about updates!)
4) Ability to record calls would be nice (saw that on one ROM.. looks cool)
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start?
I am now using android 4.3 ... should I upgrade that before or after installing a new ROM?
I would just re-install wicked .. but I worry that it is not staying compatible with the updates??
Any help is appreciated....

I am on the same baseband and have also been on Wicked, as well as DarthStalker and Hyperdrive. All are good and all seem to have similar issues. I'm also looking to flash something new and am noticing the same things you are. Unfortunately I think the roms I mentioned seem to be the most stable and complete unless you are willing to give up TW and the pen features. If you don't mind that then CM Is an option or also AOKP. I was on the AOKP for a while and liked it but I am a TW fan so I went back. I think Hyperdrive is probably the best of them. I have only had rebooting issues when using data. (I also had the same issue on DarthStalker and Wicked) so for now to get the features you want I would suggest Hyperdrive until they get all the bugs out of Lollypop. Plus you will also have to update your baseband before moving on to L. I am about to update mine and try out the DomPop rom. I'll retort back and let you know what I think.
