Flashed new rooted stock ROM, keep getting "downloaded file notifications"? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I had MD4 de-odexed. Flashed to MK3 odexed as mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947&page=745
Now, every so often, I get the little "down arrow with a line under it" notifications in my notification area. There are about 20 files that I had downloaded prior to my upgrade. A long time ago, I moved those files off of my sdcard/main memory to my external SD card.
When I pull the notification bar down, it lists the files (e.g., 'dollar.jpg') and says "download complete". But when I click on it and choose an app to complete the action (e.g., "Gallery"), it says "unable to find item" and exits.
How do I get the notifications to stop popping up? Do I need to copy those files back to internal memory and move them back to the external card again?
Edit: new files are being stored in "storage/emulated/0/download". I forgot to mention that a few months ago, I installed "Link2SD" to free up some internal memory on my 16GB Galaxy S3. Maybe that's the problem...

Just wipe data on the two Downloads applications in Settings > Applications ,> All
Then reboot

Sorry... Where?
I go to Settings. I don't see "Applications", but I see "Application Manager", is that it? I don't think it is 'cause I don't see "All".
Is that in TWRP somewhere?
Edit: I guess you *did* mean that. I scrolled to the right in App Manager and found "All". I went to both Download apps and wiped data. Rebooting now... Thx.

Low internal phone storage

I just got a notification that my internal phone storage memory is low (10mb left). My phone is only a few weeks old and I've installed maybe 20 apps, and I'm using the stock Telstra rom. I don't recall putting any large files or anything like that on my phone, I put all my photos/music/etc on the SD card. Is this normal? I have A LOT of apps installed on my Hero and I don't remember it ever having a problem with the internal memory.
Also, is there a way to install apps to the SD card? Or is it really only possible to have about 20 apps installed at a time before you have to delete some to make room for new ones?
The reason your Hero's internal memory doesn't run out as quickly as the Desire's is because the Desire's OS files are simply larger. I'm guessing this has something to do with the screen resolution being higher resulting in larger image files.
Anyway, if you want to install applications to SD card, you have 2 options:
1. Root
2. Wait for official Froyo update from HTC
Tips to free up some memory
Go to "Settings" > "Applications" > "Manage applications" > press "Menu" key > "Sort by size"
See what applications are taking up the most space and re-evaluate each application's worth to you. See if there's any one that you don't actually use so you can uninstall it.
Clear cache. The browser ,photo viewer, and maps comes into mind as applications that use up a lot of space for cache.
Soft reset your device occasionally. Doing so apparently initiates some sort of cleanup process. I've consistently recovered chunks of internal memory by simply doing an occasional soft reset. (Note: You'll need to shut down and and then restart. Doing the hardware key-combination or yanking the battery won't work)
Thanks. Is there an official Froyo update planned for anytime soon? Also how do you clear the cache?

Official word from HTC PR is Q3 for official Froyo update. Every other rumor you hear about it coming "in 2 weeks" is unsubstantiated. See following link

To clear cache got o "Settings" > "Applications" > "Manage applications". Go into the application you want to clear cache for. If you're allowed to clear the cache, the "Clear cache" button will be active.

I have a Hero with 1.5 and the 2.1 update was supposed to happen 6 months ago and still hasn't. So based on that, if they're announcing a 2.2 for the Desire in Q3 2010, I'm guessing it'll actually come out around Q2 2011. I guess I'll just have to uninstall some stuff

[Q] Downloading from android market UK.

Has any one got a solution to why the android market will let you download some apps but not others. This problem only happens with certain apps.
Contacted one of the app developers, and he thinks there may be a problem with my data partition.
I'm on stock rom, latest froyo update, and have not rooted. thanks, in advance, for your help.
Do you get an error message?
I just get the message installation unsuccessful
Try resetting ur phone and clear cach or make a different Google account

Go to menu/settings/applications/manage applications click the all tab and scroll down to market. Clear data and cache. That should fix it.

+1 for this but if not can you list some example apps so we can see if it's just you (B. East) or not?
The apps i seem to have a problem with are, Cordy the game, storage analyzer, and gun brothers game. I some times have problems with updating from the market. I have to un-install some apps then download them again to update. this happens when the app has been moved to the sd card, but not with all the apps that I have moved to the sd card

Not all apps like being on the SD Card. Do all your apps specifically say they have been updated to allow them to be moved to sd card?
You may have to move them to phone if they continue to cause issues (and to be honest, with a 1GB internal memory, putting apps onto a slow sd card really isn't worth doing.

Did you try this?
If all of the above fails to work you will probably have to factory reset the phone.
I tend to download using wifi, going to try downloading over 3g and see if that makes any difference, if not, will do a factory reset. thanks for the help though.
Before you do that you still haven't said if you cleared the market cache. Did you?
yes, i done that, tried to download again and got a message, "could not install on USB storage or sd card". First time I have seen that message.
Is this whilst trying to update an app or download a new one?
If to update then move the app to the phone first.
this is trying to download a new app.
Had a quick Google and found something to try.
mount the phone so you can access the sdcard.
Set to show hidden files
Go to folder .android_secure
Delete a file in there smdl2tmp1.asec
Then try again.
thanks, I will give it a go. can I use a file explorer to do this, because am not sure how you mount the phone, I am quite new to android, use to use winmo mobiles
you can yes, my favourites are Astro, Linda and ES.
I had a look in android_secure, made sure all hidden files would be visible, and could not find any files at all. checked to make sure that the hidden file visible setting in the file explorer was switched to the correct setting, and could not see any files at all.
Have I lost some files? if i have i have no idea how. do I need to do a factory reset?

Damn. When I found that possible solution I noticed that as many people said they did have it as said they didn't. I was hoping you would be lucky.
In this case the same file (apparently this is a known bug and has been marked for next version fix) is being stored in the system directory of the phone and without root you can't get access to it.
I'm afraid the only way to clear it (without root) is a factory reset, sorry.
thanks for your help, I will factory reset and see what happens.

Apps on SD disappeared???

Hi everyone,
In panic mode right now...
I downloaded an app that helps you find all your apps that can be moved to the sd card. So it found 150 or so. After an hour of manually moving each one, I had over 400mb of free internal space and only like 40 apps left on the main phone storage. Awesome... but then this morning I noticed that things were running real slow... so I rebooted my phone. When it came back up I noticed some of my home screen shortcuts had become generic android icons. I went to my launcher & lots of apps were missing. I have a LOT of apps so I can't quite confirm yet whether its all the apps I moved to sd but it seems that way.
When I go to the market I see apps that I had yesterday as not installed. I have astro but I'm not quite sure what folder to look in to see if the apps are all still there, just not being seen by the android system maybe?
I've been driving all morning so I haven't gotten to research this much yet. Just rebooted a couple times hoping to fix it but no luck yet.
Any help is majorly appreciated. As soon as I'm at a computer ill be working on this all day. Freakin disaster!

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
update to my question
so now that i'm in to work i can mess with this... quick update...
when i go to manage applications and go to "on SD card" i get a big list of apps that have the names like "cn.miren.browser" instead of Miren Browser and "com.alphonso.pulse" instead of Pulse which is kinda normal except usually they then refresh with the regular name and the size listed underneath. well it's been sitting here for 5 minutes now and hasn't change and it still says "Computing..." under each one and instead of the normal icons, its sort of a grayed out generic Android icon with an SD in the bottom right corner of the icon.
so clearly it still knows that these apps are there. it just maybe can't access them? i dont know. could it be the sd card? this is the original 8gb sd card that came with the g2...
any thoughts?
???
so i found out that the sd card had some errors in the file system. so i let windows fix the errors. no help (although my phone boots WAAAAAYYYYYY faster now).
so then i found that i have an extra 8gb microsd laying around (which also happened to be a better, class 6 one too). so i cleared it off and copied over alllll the files to it. booted up. STILL NO GO.
anyone have any ideas here? i'm really running out of ideas here.
when i boot, everything runs great, but all my apps that are installed to sd are gone. also it never says "preparing sd card" in the status bar when booting. then if i go to manage applications it never finishes "computing" the size of apps. if i go to "on sd" it shows all my apps, but says computing, and i can't access them, uninstall them, move them, etc. i'm totally out of ideas here and i really don't want to have to do a system restore.
anyone?
think im having the same problem . has ur market gone too?
fix?
ok so i ended up getting mine fixed using these steps that someone from a company that makes an apps2sd app sent me... the only difference i had to do was since my phone also wouldn't recognize my pc, i had to pop the sd card into my pc directly to delete the .android_secure folder... i don't want to mess up your phone or anything so make sure to read around a bit more before trying this, but this is what worked for me. after i started adding all my apps back one by one i've been fine ever since.:
"I guess the problem is ".android_secure" is not recognized by Android.
Would you try the following steps (I am not sure if it works)?
1. mount phone with PC
2. backup all files under .android_secure
3. delete .android_secure directory
4. unmount
5. try to move an app (any app) to SD card (it forces Android to
create .android_secure on SD)
6. mount phone with PC
7. restore all backuped .android_secure/* files to .android_secure
8. unmount => check if it recognized the apps that you moved to the SD card"

[Q] There is insufficient space on this device

I have E4GT with Caulkins 2.9.1.
I have the following storage available on my device:
SD Card 24.25GB
USB Storage 3.25 GB
Device Memory 1.23 GB
I get the following error when trying to update apps, or install new apps:
"There is insufficient space on this device"
I have gone into settings>apps>google play> clear cache. -> no change
I have downloaded App Cache Cleaner app and cleared all cached files. -> no change
The error message is a lie written by a lazy programmer. What's actually happening is that the installation is trying to copy or move a file and can't. To circumvent this problem I have to enter root explorer and look for files related to the program I'm trying to upgrade and delete them. Sometimes I just find dangling files which aren't really needed; other times I have to delete the whole shebang and reinstall the program from scratch. One process that I've noticed can sometimes cause this problem is the auto-Odex routine that is available in the Development folder.
Bottom line though is that this problem has NOTHING to do with your available memory space.

How do I find dangling files in explorer. Is there a was for me to determine which ones are wasted files?
before i read your reply i went into recovery and wiped cached and dalvik cache, thought it worked, because i was finally able to install or update about 3 apps, but then got the same error on the 4th app.
so those steps that have been suggested by others on different devices but with similar errors, did not resolve this issue on E4GT.
thanks for any additional help.
This may help http://bit.ly/GNQOZh take a read. I fought this a while ago and went nuts till I did what I describe.
It's usually, but not always, as simple as looking for files with the name of the program imbedded. The most recent program for me was AudioGalaxy.... so I just searched for and deleted any reference to the program that didn't look essential.
If you're REALLY stumped, then download a program from the Market like Log Viewer, which shows you the real-time system log of your Android operating system. That's how I discovered that a failed file copy was being misinterpreted as a full disc in the first place. It also will show you the name of the file being copied or moved and into which directory. Helpful hint: cut and paste the log into something like Notepad for easier reading.
By all means empty out your caches... but only to remove a potential file that's causing you a problem. Like I said, you haven't run out of free space.
Good luck!
A common source for this error is also that there are partitions on your phone that are not visible in the system settings, but which can fill up too.
If you open a console on your device, i.e. with terminal emulator, and type "df" you should see every partition and how much space is free on it.

You 'cleared data' on the media and still had this issue? http://mikemartinezonline.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/03.png I've had this issue a few times with a few people- again it just happed to me yesterday! Seems that the media storage, media hub, oovoodo, and some others were taking up huge amounst of space. In fact my media storage was at 800MB until I cleared it. Especially noticed this for me after adding and removing media and swapping different sd cards.

I cleared the app cache there, and still had the issue. I also went into recovery and cleared cache, dalvik cache.
I didn't try the SDMaid method, so if someone else has this same problem, that may be a place to try.
I ended up starting with scratch with my device, and just upgraded to calkulin 2.9.2.
now my device is functioning as expected, and i can finally install angry birds space...
Well same problem shows up again.
updated to Calkulin 3.0, in hopes to resolve the problem, but still no go.
insufficient space when trying to install or update app from google play.
SD Card: 3.25GB Free / 29.7 GB
USB Storage: 7.29 Free / 11.50 GB
Device: 1.29 GB Free.
It's kind of annoying, is this something that would be resolved by going back to stock. This is getting a bit annoying.
thanks again.
Which app?
Edit: Have you tried clearing data for google play in settings/applications/all yet?

I have used space analyzer and storage analyzer to see all the crap buried there and deleted it. These were left over form the previous flashes. Also your cache might be filling up, might want to try wipe cache+dalvik.
Glad to help as I just did this last weekend. There are threads here, but the Example for Dummies:
Get Odin and put that on your Laptop (3 minutes)
Get CF-AutoRoot and put Zip on your Laptop (3 minutes)
Load CF-AutoRoot into Odin, connect phone, click start in Oden, wait until complete (3-5 minutes)
Reboot, look at apps, you should see SuperSU, You have Root!!!
Next, get TriangleAway from Google Play (its here for free)
Then get FolderMount (free, but get paid for $1.99 for unlimited moves)
TriangleAway, this resets your phone status from "Modified" to "Normal" If your phone status is "Modified", OTA updates get messed up. In , settings, have this start on boot! (I will explain in a minute)
FolderMount open that on phone. Go to apps, it will show you all apps and their size. Press and hold. give link a name (usually the app name), destination (on the card, leave the default, normally same as source) Do this for all large programs/apps! You are limited to 3 links on the free version. Paid has unlimited! NOTE: Do not mess with device while data is moving. Let it run. Then on main screen, click pin on right, if it turns green. all done!
Next (and do not ask why, I'm not that technical) from the main screen, click the + to add a link. Manually link the DATA and FILE folder. This appears to contain most of the crap that fills up internal storage. NOTE: Do not mess with device while data is moving. Let it run. Then on main screen, click pin on right, if it turns green. all done. (These 2 will take some time to move)
Now, In settings in FolderMount: (1) click to have it launch on boot. (2) set delay for 2 minutes!! This is because, FolderMount "tricks" the system by creating links in internal storage to actual data on storage card. TriangleAway, upon boot. dismounts BOTH cards and removes SuperSU so phone boots as "Normal" first, Then when up, mounts cards and gives you back root.this can take a minute. FolderMount, upon boot, is attempting to assign these links to cards, which are not mounted yet, hence the 2 minute delay!!
I currently have 27GB on my external 64GB card, and using 4.3GB internal. Problem solved. Here are some links :to help you. Thank them!
