So i have had my sprint galaxy s3 for about 6 months and finally took my 16gb sandisk sd out of my old evo 4g(which has been actively used by my little brother). I put it in my s3 and then formatted the sd card. after the format was done, i moved all of my 175+ photos from the internal memory to the sd card from the phone. it took about 15 minutes. for some reason when I try to view them a a couple minutes later, some of images are black in my photo gallery and my phone is 'unable to open the file.' i slipped the sd card into my usb sd card reader. the message i get when i try to open those photos are 'Photo gallery is unable to open the photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted.'
now ive tried a couple of 'data recovery' programs to no avail. is there any way that i can get those photos back? freeware would be ideal but if i have to pay, so be it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am having an anoying error from time to time when opening camera applicaiton and trying to shoot a picture: picture cannot be saved and I am getting a memory card error message. After closing and opening camera application the picture can be taken. Are you having the same issue? I have already on my card more than 1000 pics. Could this be the issue?

I had that on Holidays
I took the card in a PC and ran a CHKDSK /F, which deleted many files ( but no pictures, )
After a few days, the problem came back, and the CHKDSK delete more files this time.
But at the end, I never lost any pictures.
At home, I formatted again the card. At least until now, no more problem, but meanwhile, I´m not taking any more pictures
I took a bunch of pictures and videos on my phone and I got a message in the middle of taking a pic saying that my storage space was running out and it would store the rest on the data on my external (32GB). I continued to take photos thinking that they would just save on my external. When I tried to go to the gallery app to see all the pics that I took I got another message saying (something along the lines of) some system functions will not work delete apps and data to free up disk space.
I checked my phone storage and it says I have just over 35 GB of pictures and videos. I'm not sure if that's split between SD card 0 and my external. After I deleted a ton of applications just to free up enough space to open my gallery, I only had 155 pictures and 3-4 videos. I know for a fact that there are a ton more. Are my photos gone forever? Is there any way to recover them?
When I first got G4 I put in SD card and set photos to store there which it did, last night I was taking photos and noticed the phone was storing them to phone memory and had been doing for a few days, I corrected it back to SD card and carried on taking photos.
This morning I moved the photos from phone memory to SD card but all these ones now a have modified date of 04/07/2015 by the side of them and sorting into date puts them in the wrong order.
Any ideas to get original date back? Cheers.

This has been a problem for a decade from the looks of it.
Hi people.
I recently bought a 64gb MSD card from eBay, and I had set the photos to be storaged at the external storage. Besides that I'm running Android 6.01
The problem is, last night I attended a wedding where I shot some pictures, and during last night I could see in the gallery that when I started taking the pictures, the pictures in the gallery was in the beginning there, however, soon after the gallery would say the pictures format was unrecognizable (WTF?), and the pictures would go missing from the phone. I've tried using the storage handling, which is provided by android. And I'm not able to see the picture. I've tried downloading ASTRO, and get it to show the hidden files. No luck either. I've tried erasing the .nomedia file from the MSD, still nothing.
I've tried here, the morning after to take a new photo, and I can see it's supposed to be saved at storage/emulated/o/DCIM/100media, So I've gone there by the USB port on my desktop, and I still can't see the pictures. I've been through every bloody folder on the storage without any result (And yes, I've tried installing the HTC app for desktops )
If you people have any idea how to get a hold of the pictures (If they are still there?), it would greatly appreciated!

Getting this error message when taking picture or video to the micro sd card in the G4. Pictures and video still save to internal memory though. Also, I can view pictures, play music, etc that is stored on the micro sd card. So it appears reading but not writing to the card works. Any ideas on how to resolve?
