Hello All,
I currently have a rooted T-Mo Note 3 - stock with just a few things like Carrier IQ, BlurbWallet, etc disabled and a stock Nexus 5. Comparing the Hulu Plus app on two devices it appears that Note 3 is only able to stream video at ~480p, whereas Nexus 5 is able to do 1080p. Also on Nexus I get a video quality selector with Med, HD, HQ options whereas on Note 3 this video selector is not shown.
I'm sort of torn between the two devices - I love the AMOLED screen on the Note 3, but really frustrated at the video quality issue with Hulu. I tried editing build.prop to simulate Nexus'es values and re-installing Hulu app from the store, but it didn't make a difference.I did find this article on Hulu site stating:
Unfortunately, certain Samsung phones and tablets do not fully support the high-quality streaming format Hulu Plus for Android uses (H.264 Main and High profile). As a result, in order to support these devices, we provide a different single-quality streaming profile to these devices. Therefore, since only a single quality is available, we do not make the quality selection setting accessible.
I believe however, that "the certain Samsung phones" they mention are older devices and Note 3 should have all those codecs and should be able to do 1080p.
Anyway, just want to know if anyone is able to get this to work and take full advantage of Note's beautiful screen with Hulu. Also wondering if this would work with alternative ROM whether TouchWiz or AOSP/Cyanogenmod.
Thanks in advance
Before the app was updated for the Note 3, I was able to test Hulu Plus and you were able to select which video quality you wanted (Low, Med, High).
The Note 3 was not able to keep up with the High Quality Setting and would just completely lag and stutter. It would only work on medium or low quality. So it seems that even the newer Samsung devices don't support the streaming format Hulu Plus uses. It not Hulu fault, its Samsung for not making the Note 3 support the format.
Hey - thanks for the reply. Do you remember by chance which version of Hulu app was that? I saw a thread with all Hulu apk versions posted somewhere on XDA - I would want to experiment with that.

I believe it was 2 versions ago but that won't matter because the update was applied on the server side. Even if you load the previous versions, you won't get to choose the quality
Yeah, streaming hulu plus on my nexus 7 2013 is awesome with smooth hd resolution, whereas on my note 3 its a crappy pixelated mess which seems to run at 15 fps or something. .. even the note 2 played the videos smoother! !

4.4.2 Update
Figured I'd post an update after upgrading to the official 4.4.2. Basically, nothing has changed - Hulu still does not have any streaming options and it seems to stream at 720P, whereas my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 get the full 1080P stream. It's too bad, because Note 3 has such a beautiful screen...

Is there any way to do a screencast on an Android device... in particular the Nexus 7? I'm trying to put together a video and I wanted a clip that showed the U.S. and it zoomed into a specific city. Problem is, on the computer Google Earth is somewhat choppy despite having nearly brand new hardware, and Google Maps just does an instant snap to that location. Google Maps on my N7 on the other hand works JUST AS I WOULD LIKE... but I'm not sure how to capture it?
Any idea?

Screencast captures your phone screen at high frame rates into a high quality MPEG4 video with audio. It can also take snapshots of your screen by holding the search key on your phone.

I want something like this, not to record a screencast, but to use as a way of having video out in lieu of not having hdmi. I have a pc hooked up to my hdmi display and was looking at the options. This app sounds like the best but doesn't work yet with tegra 2/3.
How fast is it with other devices? Like could a game be played at a smooth frame rate? Does it allow to stream live and not record a video?
Are there any other ways of doing this?
I've been searching for a while now with no luck. I record gameplay on my GNote with the afore mentioned app but seeing as the developer has all but vanished I'm guessing we won't be seeing Tetra support.
You'd almost think Nvidia would make an app to do this just so Tetra fans could make gameplay videos, thereby promoting their devices.

There are some demo videos of stuff coming... Nivdia has one showing a playbook to a TV that has the Miracast protocol
and ESR labs has the following
Hopefully soon...
Unless you already have a TV with it built in, you will need a some some sort dongle that has WiFi and s HDMI output. I just got a raspberry pi to be used with the ESR labs Android Transporter when it come available.

I just stumbled upon those videos yesterday. Very interesting stuff. I think I may grab a couple of raspberry pi's. I'm in Canada and I couldn't find it in stock right now. I wish they would build a cheap enclosure for it. I put a post on their website if they plan on making a linux client and not just for the pi. I would think it wouldn't take too much to make a generic version. I also noticed some hdmi outputs on tablets don't provide 1:1 mirroring. For ex, acer tablets cutoff the bottom menu. This I believe is for video playback, which makes sense, but I hope it's an option or in the spec of miracast to offer 1:1. I saw a TI demo of miracast as well, and they make mention of the display showing one thing and the tablet showing something different typical of normal wired hdmi outputs. Nvidia also has demo's of miracast as you linked, but I hope they make a windows client. It'll be a ways off before it's standard on TV's and it sounds like there will be dongle's available, but a lot of people have computers hooked up to their displays so it would be nice if there is a complete software solution as well.
Android Transporter for the Nexus7 and Raspberry PI
Hi all,
the video you showed in the one post is our old demo video.
Since yesterday we have a public preview. please see http://esrlabs.com/android-transporter-for-the-nexus-7-and-the-raspberry-pi/

Is it possible without rooting and without PC? :crying:

No, it's not possible. you need root or a pc (actually the root way to do it does not work atm)
Android 4.2 is supposed to include native support for Miracast devices. So we just need the Miracast set top boxes.
Does anyone know if Miracast carries over Audio?
I just installed Screencast on my N7 with CM10.1 grouper nightly 12182012.
When I try to screen capture video in landscape or in portrait the audio saves properly, but the video is a static hodgepodge of TWRP Touch recovery in a purplish sepiatone
yo b1LL did you bother reading Screencast app description? doesnt support Nexus 7 nor any tegra 3 based devices
Here's one
There's another thread that has one, and it works for screencasting but it really only gets 1-2 fps. So if you're desperate:

Hi all,
I am getting my note 2 4G n7005 in 8 days.
I have googled this, but no one can give a definitive answer.
I have a galaxy s2, and I really like the video maker app on it.
Can anyone confirm if the note 2 has this app, if not, is it available from the Samsung app store for the note 2 (I know it's in the Samsung app store, but can anyone confirm if it can be installed on the n2).
If the answer is no to the above, is it possible to extract the apk from a s3 and put it in system apps on the note 2? Or will it just force close?.
I just really need someone to confirm this.
Thanks
Cheers
Corey

Short answer: it doesn't come with a video editor app installed (although you can trim videos).
This thread has an apk to a video editor (which might be the one on the s3).
I installed it and it should have everything you need. I did notice that it did ask for loads of permissions (some of which I would think aren't needed), but maybe this was just the way the apk was ripped.
Anyway, I installed it, checked it out (looks good) and then uninstalled it (I don't really need it and I was a little bit worried about the permissions).

There is a video editor app in the Samsung apps store which I have installed and it works fine.
However, it doesn't support mp4 files which the slo-mo camera produces

From the icon, that looks to be the same video editor as the one I linked to.
EDIT: Also, strangely, I am nearly sure that app wasn't there 2 days ago when I checked on the samsung apps on my phone! The version date is marked 16th November, so I wonder if they only recently added support for galaxy note 2.

Maybe - I had a similar thing with Plants vs Zombies. One day it wasn't in the Play store and the next it was. Must have forgotten to press a switch
Hi XDA!
I'm thinking of buying myself a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi only), and I wanted to ask you if it will be enough to cover my needs. The thing is, I don't know how the Intel Atom performs, and I thought that maybe the tablet would be laggy, so if you have some real-world experience with it, could you please help me?
Mostly, what I will do with it is:
- Viewing PDFs
- Viewing and editing office douments
- Video playback (maybe using an HDMI adapter on the micro-USB port, I think this tablet supports MHL)
- Lightweight Android games (Cut the rope, Where's my water, and the like, not Shadowgun nor heavy games)
Since the ROM scene for this tablet is pretty scarce, I thought of only rooting and removing bloatware. Maybe using Xposed? Opinions on that?
Thank you!
I got the tablet for very much the same reasons you mentioned. It works great for those needs. I had put MS Office on my S4 and thought it would work on the tablet, it does not. However, I use quick office on the tablet and then just verify formatting on my laptop later.
It will do all those things you mentioned out of the box. If you are looking to debloat and get flash support then I suggest checking out the Pimpdroid rom in the 10.1 development forum. It is easy to flash. Also has Xposed pre installed.
I have not used an adapter to do video playback but have synced it with Samsung link for video playback and surround sound music with my other samsung devices. It works well.
I would say get it. If you want to check out Pimpdroid do it.

Hello, I have a slight issue with my Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi (flo). Currently running on Slim 6.0.1 alpha but to be honest it was the same on CM13 Nightly and Paranoid OS.
Whats the nature of the issue:
While playing 1080p youtube videos after every 10 seconds there is a half second frame stop - mildly annoying
If I watch my series on my tablet with VLC/BS Player/MX Player this POS does the same even with 720p - very annoying
There is nothing more just the occasional lag but as it is a 2 years old tablet with a 3 years old hardware I guess that's okay.
I tried a bunch of things (factory reset, wipe, reinstall, another OS) however, no progress yet. Since I am out of ideas would you be so kind and advise a possible solution?
Thank you in advance! (And pardon my English)
Please try the following:
download SPMC (alt) (Kodi)
install and run it
in SPMC install YouTube addon
Test it out and let us know.
My intuition tells me that the problem is WIFI/network related rather than hardware/rom related. One easy way to confirm this is to download the entire video to your tablet (maintaining the 1080 or 720 quality respectively), playing it locally, and seeing if you still get the frame drops.
I suspect that you won't.
If you don't, then it's time for communications diagnostics and optimizations. There's a slew of things that might help, from the simple (like turning off bluetooth), to the complex (hacks to increase communication buffer size), and so on.
Well, SPMC works with offline 720p mkv, now it is barely slowing however, I cannot set to watch youtube videos in 1080p. The default is 1080p and asks the resolution but the max is 720p.
Yup, definitely sounds like a bandwidth issue to me.
My fiancee has the exact same tablet, she bought it 2 months later at the same place. The only difference between the 2 devices is the OS. Her's runs on stock and mine runs on Slim 6, the stock plays videos online/offline flawlessly. Since mine is struggling with both I believe this is not a bandwidth issue but I am not an expert. Probably worth mentioning that my Meizu M1 Note and her Huawei P8 Lite runs videos smoothly.
Would it be a possible solution to reinstall the stock OS? Yes, I am that desperate.
BTW: Thank you!

Sure, please get factory image or use NRT to flash stock OS.
Good morning,
in the house I have three TVs Samsung, LG, Hisense.
I have three mobile phones Xiaomi mi 12 pro, Oneplus 10 pro, pixel 6 pro.
only from the pixel 6 pro, when I press on the toggle "screen mirroring" I can't find my TVs, while from the other phones I find them and I use them in mirroring quietly.
Where am I wrong? Or is it another Pixel limitation?
Thanks a lot to everyone.
You can only use Chromecast.
Mirror or screen sharing by MiraCast like you see on Samsung etc is not supported on the Pixel.
Miracast was removed from Android when Marshmallow was released, if your other phones have been able to do it then that is down to that manufacturer adding their own solution.
That's right but I always couldn't believe that nobody made a magisk/lsposed module to enable/ add this feature to pixel lineup since marshmallow..

No idea if this works Cast Enabler for Android 12+ [XPOSED]
Disregard. Only for volume.
All cast is great for casting files that are stored on your device give that a try
I hear a lot of great features that are coming out of wifi 7. I'm getting tired of having to deal with a Chromecast, Smart TV, Apple AirPlay to cast between devices. Wi-Fi 7 has enough bandwidth that you can use a Wifi direct protocol to share or stream 4k and 8k movies. I am hoping this is the case in the future instead of having to use a router as a middle man or a streaming device.
Can also use Samsung smart things on your pixel 6 pro I have that app and it works I also have all cast to

Yep, used those as well. The reality is, it needs to be a standard, intuitive, and easy. We have a CPU, a hardware acceleration with the GPU and video encoder/decoder chip that can do x264 and x265. Use the 320 MHz bandwidth and low latency tech in wifi 7 protocol to make things easier similar to WiDi. Right now they are all proprietary and it's ridiculous.
EDIT: I understand Miracast is making gains in the space. Time will tell if this is a good standard with wifi 7, but Chromecast is not the future IMHO and Google needs to take a better approach when it comes to casting.
