After getting frustrated i made a bad decision and decided to punch my phone.
now i need to fix my phone.
it appears i have broken the digitizer. on tearing the phone down it seems the screen and digitzer are the same unit.
can anybody else confirm or deny this. it is a htc desire hd.
it has definately been fixed at some point in its life because theres alot of dust between the digitizer and screen.
any help will be greatfully recieved
i had another look.... they are seperate.......

Hi, i've changed my screen 2 months ago, and i can tell you that is better that you buy the screen with the digitalizer and the frame. All the kit, then search some video on youtube about disassembly and in 1 hour you will have your phone running again, it's easier than seems, you'll sure for that.

You can try to change just the digitalizer, but is riskie, so i you broke the screen, then you can order the entire kit, so, don't worry!

Yep ok so yes the best way is to replace both digitizer and lcd at the same time, after applying a small amount of pressure to stick the 2 together i put a small crack into the lcd (ggggrrrrrr) ( literally the smallest amount of pressure) so that was really good advice there.
I will be purchasing a new lcd as i do enjoy this phone..
many thanks for the offer of buying it. yes the micro usb works fine, if it appears that i am unable to fix it i will be more than happy to sell it......
Bottom Line Replace both Digitizer and lcd and even housing if poss at the same time....
thanks for your advice and suggestions.

ok so I managed to crack the screen..nice big shatter mark under the screen and now the entire screen went black...insurance is a pain and from what I understand getting Asurion to replace my vibrant will be $130 and buying an AMOLED screen itself is cheaper.
The rest of the phone is still in working condition as before my screen went totally black after it broke some of it was still functional.
Any idea on where I can get the screen? I have not had luck on ebay as of yet, and was hoping someone here could recco a reputable vendor...

Wow wish I would had found this post sooner...
I dropped my vibrant from my and it was in the case.. it landed flat on the screen..glass did not break but AMOLED screen enploded.. I didnt know until i got to my car and tried to make a call. Crap...I dish out the $130.00 bucks ...bummed out about that..

I cracked my screen also. I found that site after I put in the claim. So I figured what the hell and started taking it apart, for next time.
It isn't easy! I'm pretty nerdy and good with my hands. Be very careful and very patient. There are small parts and wires that can very easily break.

Have you had any luck with this?I own an Orange San Francisco and cracked the amoled, unfortunately orange or any other site/company offers any repair AFAIK. I'm looking into repairing it myself, are amoled connectors compatible from one phone to another or are they manufacturer specific if you are aware of? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt asking.

it would most likely have to be the same part
because the Galaxy S series are the only ones with that size AMOLED screen.
been there done that
i got a vibrant off of something awful for pretty cheap with a broken screen
first off you literally have to pry the screen off of the phone
and the bottom four buttons? there is a very thin ribbon cable that is glued to the screen
there are a few things youll need
1.really small screw driver (i got a glasses repair kit from the dollar store. worked great)
2.something to pry the screen off (used a screw driver from said kit)
3.balls. that ribbon cable is very very easy to break
first off you have to take apart the phone completely
i would even take off the one board that the screen connects to
then you need to pry off the screen very carefully
if your amold or whatever part is broken you're going to have to peel it off
it really sucks and makes you look like a bad 70s disco
after that it gets pretty simple
make sure you have something to hold the top and bottom part to the phone
mine isnt flush due to me being a jackass and not getting the right glue stuff to hold it down
after that it should work perfect like before
if anyone wants to trade me a new screen for the i9000 screen or buy me a screen (lol) i would make a very detailed video (not happy with the way the first attempt turned out)
post itt or pm me if you have any questions
So you are saying it should work, but what about the software part, won't there be any problems?

Hi,
I have just got the HTC desire HD replacement digitizer and have tried to replace it but am stuck as I cannot remove the digitzer from the LCD screen.
The only disassemble video I can find says to put it 10 minutes on top of a special oven, but I do not have one of these.
Is there anyway I can replace this digitizer without one and does anyone know where there might be a video or step by step guide on how to change it, can find guides for almost every other phone but this one.
cheers

Hi,
For that "special oven" or heating plate, you could try a hairdryer probably.
But please exercise caution as you would not want to fry that beautiful object of desire.
I don't know if the video you came across is this: HTC Desire HD Disassembly Guide
This step-by-step guide might help too:

Note the guy also suggested using a hairdryer or something.
But... Like he said.. "caution: do it with your own risk, i dont take any responsibilities if any part is broken or fail."
okay... i found some videos about....

Just to let you know that after about a week phone is finally sorted, couldn't manage to get cracked digitizer off lcd, took it into a local phone repair shop and they couldn't manage it either so ended up having to replace LCD as well.
Have now invested in an otterbox case as well so if I manage to drop it again it will be a bit more protected.
Oooops.. Im waiting for the digitizer to arrive.. Ordered from eBay.. Now that's not too encouraging news for my brother.. Will try and see how it goes nevertheless...

Practical solution
Hello guys,
First possessor of a Hero, I needed to change the glass surface as well. No need to dry hair, just to have a radiator around 50 to 60 degrees Celsius, which is more than enough to soften the glue and peel off the glass. Then quickly put the new glass surface and once the glue has cooled, voila, it takes up exactly like the original. That's the hardest part of this operation is finally turning the phone for parts.
Good luck for the operation that appears much more difficult than it actually is.
Arma.
I have always used a hairdryer to loosen glue but a radiator would work too just as long as its not too hot. If it is you might find some of the plastic melting and changing shape, or worse, sticking itself to the radiator.
Also, you have to be wary of the solder joints too. To comply with EU standards the solder in electronic devices has to be lead free and that sort of solder is prone to cracking in the joints when heat is applied. Shouldnt be too much of a problem on a mobile level but that is the major cause of breakdowns in games consoles.
I have dropped my Wildfire on the floor and after i picked it up i had a spot on the screen(you can see it in the pics attached).I want to order the parts necesary from ebay because i saw they have good prices.
Please help me because i need to know..what part do i have to change to get that spot away from the screen?(the digitizer, the display?)
Thanks!
PS: the touchsreen works perfectly
really no one knows?
asking again..please help
I had exactly the same problem. That mark you see on the screen is due to dead pixels. I dropped mine too and I had a spot just like yours. Here is how I solved the problem.
1. Go to ebay and buy an LCD screen for wildfire. I got mine for less than $50. You just need the LCD not the touchscreen digitizer. I think you can get it cheaper.
2 Replace the LCD. I could not find a dissassembly guide for wildfire, but you can follow the Desire guide. They are pretty much the same. I am talking about the steps. Obviously, they different phones.
Since your touchscreen works, it is easier to replace the LCD.
Now my wildfire works fine with a working LCD.
Good luck

If the touchscreen is working without any problems then it is just the LCD Screen you need, It is a separate part from the touchscreen.
Where i used to work, the sales team used to rip people off by telling them that the touchscreen and LCD screen came together, but most of the time they don't and can be fitted separately, sometimes however they are together and need to be bought together. I have been inside one of my own wildfires to fit a new touchscreen it didn't go very well but it works......... minus the LED lights and i can tell you the LCD screen can be purchased and fitted separately.
Dude of course it is up to you wheyher you wait or not,
But i am telling you, i had the exactly same issue... My phone fell to the floor and i had the spot on the pictures you posted. It is because of the dead/stuck pixels on your lcd. My touchscreen worked fine too. Just replace the lcd and you are in bussiness.
And I agree with the poster above.

Hello guys,
10 minutes ago my galaxy note N7000 screen cracked in my pocket.
So I need to buy a replenishment screen from Samsung but I simply can't find stores that supplies replenishment parts for it. Do anyone knows where to buy a new Amoled LCD screen for galaxy note ?
Thank you and best regards,
Amid
ebay, took 5 days to ship from HK to NYC. Follow youtube guide in opening the note and use blow dryer/heat gun to loosen the sceen, wedge open with something sharp and slowly tear back the screen gently. You will need the old Wacom sensor from the broken screen so becareful to not to rip it. There is guide in the general section. I broke mine 2 weeks ago and replaced it in a hour. take your time you can get it done.
Thanks man. Just to be sure, the price is about US$ 230,00 for it ? i am not sure if I am looking for the right spare part.

Hmmm no, in that case you will need the 200ish one.
You will need the entire setup, glass, LCD, and Touch. Does not come with Wacom sensor. Looking around you can get them for 230-260. Look for delivery, that makes a huge difference, especially with your phone out of commission.
This is the guy I purchased mine from, but I panic and purchase the first one I saw. If you do some research you will find cheaper, but I got min in 5 days. So I am glad this guy came thru. Good luck, its going to stress you out a bit when you have to remove the screen from the front panel, they are glued on so take your time. Looks like your LCD broke so it is going to crack and shatter further so make sure you do it in area where it is easy to clean. If you look at the front panel after you remove it, you will see one wire that does not come with the replacement one, that is for the wacom sensor, so be careful and don't damage that part, you will need to peel it off and place it back on to the replacement lcd, otherwise your s-pen won't work. It's been 2 weeks, my phone is going strong and no sensor or sceen issues. You should get a more protective case, since you probably already blew close to ~$1000 on this phone by now. I have a casemate, otterbox commuter looks like a good one. Once again good luck, you can do this.
Please stop advising people to do something that is not meant to be done and can possibly damage their phone even more. And most likely look completely rubbish when assembled.
The correct repair part is a complete display assembly including everything - the glass, digitizer, Wacom digitizer, AMOLED, bezel, frame abd home button. It costs around 260 dollars on eBay and is relatively simple to install. By installing the complete assembly you don't need to worry about separating the glass and AMOLED or about the Wacom digitizer, since they are all included. Just remove the screws, back housing and motherboard, disassemble the audio flex cable and front camera flex from the old display and put them into the new one. Most displays also require the old charger port flex and speaker module to be used.
The correct part looks like this, for example: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=320843198847
Well mine looks brand new, must be the workmanship ;-P But why flame my advise when he is going to need to do it anyways, the screen is completely useless, as was mine. Why don't you keep your assumption to yourself in how it will look or if he is going to ruin the device. If he decides that he would rather live with a crack screen or someone who is willing to do it, there really isn't much options here. What's up with such negative attitude here. Just trying to show him that it can be done.

Replacement screen with 2 connectors
Hello!
First of all I would like to say Thank you for all the resources provided in this forums!
Could someone please help me to find a replacement screen for the International version of the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with 2 connectors? This phone has the physical home button. All the replacements that I've been able to find have just the first connector. I tried to post a photo hoping to help better explain it, but I can't do it yet.

I think Senior member Justis is right... many of us dont want to do a full screen replacement for 220$...when we can just remove the front screen for 20$..many have done this method successfully... U just need to watch a lot of youtube videos on this and be careful/delicate with the procedure... its possible.
So i dont think what he said was a waste.. Pls keep such remarks to yourself.. He was not wasting anyones time.

Joined the club this morning unfortunately. My touch screen still works, so like many, I just have to replace the front part.
I've read this thread almost in its entirety, but nobody mentions having any success. Has anybody tried replacing the screen themselves? Does anybody know if you can use a blowdryer instead of a heat gun?
Also, where are most people buying replacements? I see the one from China, but I'm a little wary of those so considering this: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617614
I've replaced laptop and mobile screens in the past (back in the HTC 8525 days), but not sure if this is out of skill-set. Would really appreciate some input.

I recommend you should not try to do this yourself but instead send it to a prof.service. you could find them on Ebay. You should only do it yourself if you replace the whole screen assembly.

How hard is it? I bought the screen for 40 on eBay (US) and am close to buying the materials (heat gun, replacement kits, pry, etc.) I've seen some tutorials on YouTube and just seems to take some patience and perseverance?

Someone did replaced the digitizer and the screen didnt worked. So good luck.
I also did cracked mine screen, but I took it to service repair and costed me 285US.
Only positive, is the new replacement screen doesnt have backlight bleeding like mine old one had and was very annoying as hell.
This is first ever big LCD screen that doesnt have any backlight bleeding of all i owned.

That's way out of my range unfortunately. What are these repair people doing that we can't do?
Any other last thoughts? Should be getting my replacement screen this week.

If you don't know I tell you, the screen is glued to the digitizer with UV glue and you need a special glue machine to do that. Any other methods like tape, glue strings, glue kits ...what ever, will not work the same way, air and dirt will get in between and you will see mark and bubble all over the screen in the long run, plus the touch/Spen may not even work right any more...So good luck. It's may cost you more but, if you went through all the headache and at the end you still have to buy an assembly...mute point and even cost you more...

They dont change the digitizer only and whole LCD+digitizer frame. None of repair service would change just the digitizer, too much work and very difficult to do it.
Repair cost only 50US and lcd+digitizer frame cost 235US. Looking around the web, its cost around 210SUS LCD + digitizer frame.
After I read that someone failed to replace only the digitizer, since they are glued together and decided take it to repair service instead.
