Just for fun. But who knows, it might help someone out there.
First thing I do is to install titanium backup and restore my preferred keyboard - Swype. There is surprisingly no rom that comes with this as default keyboard. Nobody here uses it?
After that I just check out what the rom has to offer and see if everything's working right. If I like it I start restoring my apps and setting up stuff.
Post yours.

im not being rude here but after flashing a new rom, i reboot my phone. lol
just joking.
login my google account, and sync my contacts. install root explorer, link2sd, reboot, restore apps or data thru titanium, then explorer the rom. oh before i forgot, i text my own number to be sure that i have the correct csc.
and lastly, install opera mini, go to xda, give a feedback. hope it helps, just a reminder, reboot first. hahaha

after flashing new roms, I boot the Phone, then go over all the Android Introductory questions until i get into the phone's menu... after that, I restart my phone. Boot into recovery, and wipe /cache and /data. reboot. and then go over the android questions. Check the hardware if they are still working, and observe if there are any differences.. I then set up my calendar, alarms, ringtones... restore messages from sim card, reinstall apps as APKs. The last thing I do is login to google, then to Samsung for the SIM Change Alert...
First, I get rid of the bloatwares (if any). Then, I restore my apps w/ Titanium Backup. Then, I login to Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Btw.. First thing after wiping data or reflashing is rooting, restore apps from titanium, set ringtone, wallpaper and then set the setting of my phone and some apps. add some launcher (GO launcher EX) and then install memory cleaner (1 tap) .. and uhmmm.... i CHEck if there is anything wrong in my phone by dialing *#0*#. I hope there is an app that checks everything on the phone's hardware so that im not so tired of checking it's application like camera or music player if it's working... is there any??
That's absolutely essential for me Titanium all the way
I have been flashing roms & kernels for the past few years so I don't think I am a "noob". I am in no means a "know it all" either. I have been using Titanium Backup Pro to backup everything before flashing roms. It's great, but I still end up taking 20 minutes to restore everything back to normal. I have seen other posts about the correct way to backup/restore, but I never get a straight answer on the easiest/correct way. Do I let the market redownload my apps or do I let Titanium? Restore user data, system data? I hear about others restoring everything back to normal like email, texts, passwords etc. Please help.... Thanks

Restoring user downloaded apps is fine, but restoring system data always monkeys everything up.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I've always restored user apps through titanium, but as the guy above me stated hold off on the data. If need be, the apps where you really need the data do them one by one so you know which one fudges up your system, if any do.
Once I know I'm going to switch roms, I always back all user apps up, then after I load the rom I want, I go ahead and run titanium before the market loads anything. It just takes to long for the market to redownload everything, in most instances.

Yea titanium way faster than market attempting to re download plus it always misses some and your days gets congested from 50+ apps trying all install at once

Do you run the batch operation?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
If you want.. you can look into Mybackup root/pro. I always use that to backup my data and apps. It's very straight forward. You can choose DATA and backup sms, mms, android home, settings, playlists etc... then use APP to backup APPS, or APPS +DATA. check it out.. but remember after each backup or restore, restart for best results.

How do you get ti backup on your phone after a new rom is installed, but without accessing the market? most roms dont come with it preinstalled.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Most the time I go to the market and dl it... There were a few devs that did have it in the rom when I had my g2.
Just read that you posted without going to the market. When you buy the pro, its always for dl in the market, just the serial though. So you have to redownload the free version through the market. Don't think there is another way, that I know of.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
I will add, that mybackup is pretty cool. I'm not even rooted with a mytouch4gslide and you can still backup everything. With titanium, you have to be rooted.

While I am a large fan of Titanium, I would have to think that not being rooted would restrict it's functionality quite a bit. Anyone care to comment?

There is an option in Titanium Backup to create a Flashable Zip that you can install within Recovery. In Titanium Backup, Press MENU, then press MORE and it'll be on that list.

Huh very interesting. thanks for the tip.
Im guessing we should choose the edify scripting method. would you apply the .zip in the same manner as flashing a rom? via the "install zip from sd card" option?

Sweet. from now on i can be stingier with my data usage.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
This is the best way I restore after a wipe:
1. TI Pro for batch USER apps and data only -- do not use batch on system files
2. TI Pro for these system files: bookmarks, user dictionary, and wi-fi access points, only. I only use the "DATA Only" option in Ti Pro for these files.
3. I use from market, Call logs Backup & Restore to get my call logs back.
4. I always do a nandroid before flashing a new rom, and then use AppExtractor (free from market) to go to my nandroid to restore my SMS and MMSs. This works better than using TI Pro for sms and mms restore.
It sounds more complicated than it is. It actually is quite simple. I would simply stay away from using Ti Pro for restoring any system files if you can.

I haven't had any issues with restoring apps with TB on my rooted SGIII. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems either (but know that a lot of people are using it successfully). I've used it with every rom I've flashed.
What do you mean when you say it "appears" you can't use it?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Don't you have to pay for it to restore backups across different Android versions? I could be mistaken. TB is the reason I rooted mine it the first place after I got the GSIII to replace my Epic 4G.
You should only have to pay for the full version with all of the GOODIES. You should download root checker to see if your fully rooted. you may be missing busybox or some other vital part. TB seems to be working for everyone else I know that has an S III.
I quess maybe the ui is different from the evo. I would press menu button then select batch and restore that way. Now i don't even see a batch option but when i first go i to the app it gives me a msg that i need to check unknown sources or something to allow other apps to be installed hell i don't even see that as a option.
Upper right hand corner icon will bring up the options for batch operations.

You will need to check the unknown sources box. From home screen: menu, settings, security, scroll down to unknown sources, check box, done.
Also, one of the recent updates (not sure which one) they moved the batch ops to the top right corner.
Good Luck!
Note that TB also make backups of system apps, and system apps are not always compatible with every ROM out there. So TB wont be able to restore them.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
not to hijack the OP, but is it possible to create a zip of your apps in TB so after reflashing a rom you could just flash that zip while in recovery and upon rebooting, your apps would already be installed?
I don't think TB does that, but there is an app in the the Play store that does make a flashable zip of your apps. App2zip or something like that.

Hi,
Currently on Task650's latest AOKP, Is there any way I can backup and restore my AOKP system and ROM settings?
Also, a somewhat unrelated question. I know Google Play keep track of every app you've downloaded and from there one can easily reinstall everything lost post clean flash. I also know there is an option where apps are immediately reinstalled upon logging into Google account, post clean flash. I was wondering if I could customize that list before everything begins to automatically reinstall? It is because I don't use every app I've downloaded before. I've downloaded hundreds of apps, but only really use like 20.
Thanks!
Use the search feature it comes in handy...
You can back up your rom and rom settings with your recovery and the only way to select which apps you want is to uncheck there "restore all apps" when booting up your device and manually downloading them.

I love how people just automatically assume you don't search. I did search. Didn't find what I was looking for, so I'm here. Plus I had more than just the one question.
I've explored my recovery (TW) and the only backup I can see is a partition backup, where the system partition alone, for me anyways, is more than twice the size of the ROM. What I was asking was just settings and settings only. Maybe there is an option for CWM that isn't available in TW?

Restoring system settings is not advised as it can cause issues. This is one of the prices you pay for installing custom roms.

Yes iam using LiquidSmooth Rom,also tried other roms and it has the same problem for some reason,is there any option to enable it or its from ROM or Build itself?
Or it could be a very simple explaination that the App either is not updated to Kitkat or does not like rooted devices.

In app manager, try clearing data on all Google apps, most importantly, play store, gms, gsf, gmail and any others you think might be closely tied to them. Reboot and reset up. If that doesn't work, try again but also uninstall updates. Reboot and give it time to auto update them again.

Best I can think of is to nandroid, odin back to stock with latest firmware, then flash your rom clean and try it that way. If it still doesnt work try again on stock touchwiz. This way youll know if its something wrong with your account, or something wrong with your rom and data. Also, from your computer, manually log out of any google services.
Restoring the nandroid data backup will likely cause it to happen again. Mine started working again on its own, so im not sure what the cause was...
