Hi,
I was wondering what is the best version of the galaxy nexus to buy in terms of flexibility/rootability. I am using a T mobile USA sim card and i plan to buy data plan in the future. Also, where is the cheapest place I can get that version?
Thanks

+1 Got mine from Play Store. Running off contract on StraightTalk. It will pay for itself in less than a year.

GSM you have one choice, i9250. I suggest buying from the Play Store (good price, full warranty) unless you get a super good deal on a used one.
I'm in the same boat. I want to go from a CDMA variant to the GSM variant and was curious about this too. Is there a real difference between the international gsm version (i9250) and the U.S. Google play store version? For example radio frequencies or software for that matter. Getting it for $300 brand new sealed in box. Thanks.

They are the same hardware & you can flash whichever radio suits your needs.

They're the exact same hardware (pentaband GSM radio). The Play Store one comes with takju firmware, which you want, but any device can be changed to any firmware. The radio can also be changed if you want.
I thought the International version didn't have nfc?

There's only one GSM version, as far as I know, so you might as well get it from the cheapest source (google play, $350 + stuffs).
Don't forget to switch to the $30 100m/5gb t-mobile prepaid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646755
All gsm have the same hardware, its just the firmwares that are different. The int. comes with yakju or other similar variants while the play store version is takju. Takju is basically yakju + goggle wallet. And if you are in the us, the play store is the way to go. Its a great price and has warranty.

Hi all, i travelling to hawaii soon, and was thinking about purchasing a galaxy s3 while i am there, will i have any problems using this phone once i return to australia, i also noticed there are many variants of the s3, is there any i should avoid, or are they all the same but with different bundled software ?
i am keen to flash this device with custom roms in the future, so bundled software is not a huge concern of mine
Its either at&t or T-Mobile versions of galaxy s3 will work in your country but remember it will be sim locked...
Edit: might vary in Hawaii not sure if T-Mobile has network there...

They definitely have network there. My brother just moved there, and there are a few members on here also.

Yes there's network here. Lol.

Wouldn't i be able to use the application 'GalaxSim Unlock' to unlock the sim, or would the S3's in hawaii likely be the Us qualcomm based GS3's ?
Why dont you just get one in Australia? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through? When you in Hawaii you just have to put a prepaid sim in it for it to work. Then when you go back home you have a phone that works well for your country without the hassle of doing something special to the phone to make it work for you. Plus you wouldn't be able to access the 4G networks of the Australian carriers with US variants.

Because they are much cheaper to buy, also, i do not consider unlocking/flashing etc to be a difficult task, i actually enjoy it, call it a pastime that i enjoy if you wish.
Also, only the 4G version of the S3 is going to work on a 4G network, so if i dont buy the 4G version, its not going to be a problem anywhere in the world
Fair enough.

What? All versions of the S3 are "4G". The one in hawaii will be Qualcomm based. If you buy an ATT one in Hawaii the LTE will not work in Australia

Guys,
I so want to buy the note 2 like today. However T-Mobile has no coverage in my area. If I buy the phone at full price I can get it unlocked. Am just wondering if T-Mobile note will work on at&t lte Or hspa+.

The phone does support HSPA+ on AT&T out the box since the bands are included. The phone also has T-Mobile LTE frequency as well, but is said to be locked down by software since T-Mobile does not have LTE up and running yet. I believe T-Mobile and AT&T do use the same frequency for LTE. Only way to know if someone unlocks their device and puts in an AT&T sim.
According to AnandTech review it WILL support ATT LTE. So how does a non-Tmobile user unlock this phone??? I want to use on ATT.
From the review...
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6386/samsung-galaxy-note-2-review-t-mobile-/9
One of the most interesting things about the Galaxy Note 2 on T-Mobile is that it literally is the same hardware as the AT&T Note 2 with LTE. Sure, the model number is different, but the T-Mobile Note 2 includes support for LTE bands 17 (which AT&T uses) and 4 (AWS, which AT&T has specced devices out for and T-Mobile has confirmed it will deploy LTE on). This is to my knowledge the first T-Mobile handset with overt LTE support, and thus a solid future-proof purchase if you’re determined to have a T-Mobile handset that will work with the carrier’s upcoming LTE on AWS plans.
In addition, if you unlock the handset there’s no reason it shouldn’t work on AT&T’s LTE network that I can see. I managed to unlock the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 but not before leaving the AT&T LTE market in Dallas. It does however work as expected on WCDMA 1900 in my own market on AT&T after unlocking.
Will the Note 2 work on streight talk as well?
I'm curious if the note II would work on att's 3g network. I'm with Sprint atm but I'm constantly roaming due to poor coverage so I'm assuming it won't be long till they nix my contract and paying $100+ for limited data is just ridiculous to me so I was going to go with TMobile but they only have.edge coverage around here no 3g so I was hoping if I went with TMobile I could use AT&T towers and actually have a decently priced plan with real service.

LTE band might just be software locked since T-Mo has yet to get LTE, FCC filings showed LTE capability. YMMV

Most likely your going to need the At&t radio just how At&t note 1 worked on t-mobile 4g by flashing the radio... maybe even a full on rom from at&t version since all the phones now come with the same hardware
just for Korea?

YES. EXCLUSIVELY TO SOUTH KOREA  Do not expect for 805 version to come abroad...
and no the LTE radios won't work in the US......
Edit - Actually I am not 100% sure the radios won't work in the US. Everything I've read seems to indicate it is only for Korea, but most articles are also focusing on the new LTE-A radio. I haven't seen anything to indicate what other radios are going to be included.
When can we buy one? It will work down here.
The S5 lte-a will work on at&t so I assume the g3 will.

well. this kinda sucks. I just bought the international version less than 1 month ago.
oh well. if It ever came to the local imported market here I will trade. because I do not think this will become the international version any time soon. but who knows.
I will hold out for the 805...we all knew it was coming lol.
801 g3 isnt even out yet here in canada so i can wait awhile longer.

Hey all,
I'm looking to buy this non contract to use with my Tmob $30 5gig plan.
I was looking for the best price and was wondering if it would be possible to get a better deal buying this outright from a carrier and unlocking it myself or if I should get it somewhere else, amazon or something.
I'm also confused by the models as I believe I've seen some with 3 gigs of ram and some with less. I would like to get the best model available, most ram and storage.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

I bought mine from www.blackwireless.com and got within 2 days. Phone is international unlocked version without bloatware.
That international unlocked version still has a locked boot loader. Also, this is the 16gig, 2gig ram version - not the 32gig, 3gig ram version. Plus it costs $649 for that version without the SquareTrade warranty.
If I were you I would try to get a 32gig/3gig model from T-Mobile because that is the only one without a locked bootloader. I think the full price from T-Mobile is similar or a bit cheaper even, and that phone will run with about any GSM sim chip just by plugging it in and maybe changing the APN.
Cool. Thanks guys

Wow! Your right! Only $598! I've seen that model for over $700!
I think I'm going to wait a little bit if I can though but not sure. I may just grab this. I don't think I should have an issue using my T-Mobile off contract Sim.
Thanks

You also will not get any wifi calling if you buy a non T-mobile phone, and that's an important feature IMO that's impossible to add layer.
