Warranty and Rooting - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey guys, with this being a Google device and me being rooted, there shouldn't be an issue if say I needed a replacement battery , right?

Nope.Because Google allows you to do that and even they offer you stock image files to flash back to full stock.
There is no flash counter like in Samsung devices.
You are warranty safe go and root it!

Cool. I know Google supported it in the past, I just wanted to make sure they didn't have a change in heart at some point.

OK guys. I'm on my second phone and here are the apps that do not work properly.
Facebook- cannot update status

I'm hoping so. Me and Samsung usually don't get along. I cane from the bionic and before that the charge and fascinate. Imma swap to a new phone. If I still have problems, probably gonna grab the rezound

I also can run all those without issue...

My Facebook crashes on status updates as well.
I just got the phone. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. Initial set of apps included facebook and am having the issue described. I just initiated a factory reset and am going to install facebook first to see if that fixes it.
That did not fix it. Went to Facebook site and deleted all applications and it started working.

^ Nope, in fact you can even root without unlocking the bootloader and wiping your data

Are you the Guy over at Thunderbolt whose TB bit the dust?
Haha welcome, I think more GalNex owners had the Thunderbolt than any other phone, we just got hit so bad with waiting for ICS, none of us want that wait and uncertainty ever again.

Been playing with it all day, getting a feel for phone and battery. Ive git a 2350 battery in it i believe, and life seems pretty good. It did update to jb, and im amazed how fast phone is. If i had a good secure wifi tether, id almost not root, lol! Nah, i gotta see what this thing will do. Really liking so far though.

Should i update radios? Runnin liquid now, no 4g.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Do yourself a favor and if you haven't yet already learn adb and fastboot command lines there is no need for a toolkit for this phone. And to answer your radio question unlike the thunderbolt any radio combination works on any ROM you can update or change radios to see if they help you out but it shouldn't matter if you're getting 4g or not. Plus these roms never include radios..well from what I have seen all the radios can be flashed separately through the bootloader or some people have made flashable zips containing them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
1. Get Gnex
2. Root/Unlock
3. Flash new radios
4. Flash new bootloader
5. Flash new ROM - I would vouch for Codename Android with Faux's kernel
that's my recommendation plan
Brace yourself, flash addiction is comimg.

Broken charging port...

Probably a dumb question but it there any way to relock the bootloader, un-root and flash a stock image without the charging port? Need to send it back.

Before you go to all the hassle. I urge you to try this...get a pair of pliers and squeeze the mini USB end that goes into your phone till its slightly tight to push onto your phone and see if it works. I bet it does!
As usual disclaimer here I'm not responsible for any damage. Don't squeeze too hard!

Just fix it yourself, the USB port is replaceable on this device. I have 2 backups for my toroplus.

Yes there is.
1) get segv11's BootUnlocker app from the play store and lock your bootloader.
2) go to the stickied return to stock thread in the General section, second post and flash the JB zip from there

Possible to root w/o PC/USB?

Hello, I was looking into purchasing a G2 or vibrant since I was selling my Nexus 4. Anyway the one I want has a broken USB, and is stock. Now the guides I've read require USB at some point, but I was hoping another route is available.

Note 2 unroot

My screen isn't working and I had rooted via framaroot however I recently unroofed with framaroot. I would flash stock however my phone is unusable as the screen doesn't work although I will be sending it In for warranty. I recall my download mode status as official with no flash counters. Will Samsung find that my phone was rooted even though I had unrooted and that my download status was all official?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
OK so flashed stock. It turns out the screen is dead although the phone is on. I flashed stock and I gave it in.
