[Q] Flashing My i8160 Ace 2 to 4.4 Kitkat - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i just updated my Ace 2 from 2.3.6 GB to 4.1.2 JB through Samsung Kies. After the update process, i used the "root.zip" (err, just saw it while searching from the forum) in order for it to be rooted. I also downloaded gooManager, Root Browser, ROM manager, Greenify, Titanium. Also removed unnecessary apps using Root Browser ( saw list of bloated apps on Ace 2 also in this forum). It is my first time rooting my droid and I want to obtain knowledge in order to maximize my droid's capabilities.
So here's my questions (so far):
1. Why is it my Recovery Mode is looking like this:
{

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
instead of looking like this:
since because i wanted to flash it but when I see some tutorials, their recovery mode has a ROM Manager logo which made me hesitated on flashing.
2. What can you recommend on me , a newbie , about flashing tips in order to flash my Ace 2 into 4.4 kitkat?
Source : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524905
3. Can someone tell me how to flash proper because im confused on flashing through recov mode and using Odin
4. Lastly, if i factory reset my 4.1.2 JB through recov. mode, will it revert my droid into 2.3.6 GB ? will it remove the root?
since i also saw some tutorials flashing by factory reset in recov. mode then installing from SD Card also in recov. mode
Please help me clear my mind on flashing Thank you !

1- because thats CWM, never use rom manager. Search forum for cwm 6 by shaaan
EDIT: temp cwm 6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141395

3. Can someone tell me how to flash proper because im confused on flashing through recov mode and using Odin
3- follow instructions in first post of EVERY rom thread, you should be safe
4. Lastly, if i factory reset my 4.1.2 JB through recov. mode, will it revert my droid into 2.3.6 GB ? will it remove the root?

1: In the Ace 2, recovery comes from the kernel. You can temporarily load "cwm6.zip" to upgrade until the next reboot "Android system recovery 3E" into CWM 6.0.2, and once you install another kernel with a modified recovery (CM10.2 contains CWM 6.0.3 for example) it will always load in place of the stock one.
4: Factory reset means deleting everything under /data (the system memory in which apps are installed by default), /cache and .android_secure (apps moved to SD or USB storage), the OS and all system applications will persist. You will technically stay rooted, but SuperSU will only remain if it was installed as a system app.
To switch between 2.x and 4.x you must flash and repartition with a complete 3-part firmware (with PIT, CODE/PDA and CSC files), like LK4 or MB4. After that you can install an OS of the same generation using Odin/Heimdall (for tar files) or CWM (for zips).
Most stock-derivate firmwares recommend a base version but it's usually optional; AOSP roms (Cyanogen, AOKP and the like) don't care at all.

Thank you for your reply but i cant understand some of the term you are saying XD So basically on 1. recovery kernel can be upgraded ? and my kernel i think is old ? so that is why my recov mode is not looking like ROM manager logo?
so also i can flash using ROM manager or Recovery mode with my current system ?

Flash temp cwm 6 zip in stock recovery(will be called update.zip, i added link). Dont use rom manager

The same kernel that runs "the full Android experience" also contains the recovery that boots with up+home+power. Some kernels have the "Android system recovery 3E" (which can be temporarily upgraded to CWM with cwm6.zip), others have CWM directly.
Basically, if you have a Cyanogen ROM installed, it will have CWM preinstalled. For everything else keep the temporary CWM in you external storage.
(All this ignores Gingerbread kernels, but let's keep matters simple as you're probably using JB)

Defy 2.2 Re-Release Upgrade to CM7 - Multiple Queries - Plz Help

Hi Friends,
Plz bear with by silly questions and help me (by answering the following queries or redirecting to the threads where i can find appropriate answers. I know these have been discussed earlier in many threads but as a newbie to android, i am a bit confused and would like some specific help here)
I just bought a new Defy in India. It has a green lens with SOC module. It is running on 2.2 Re-Release version exactly as mentioned here

I want to upgrade to CM7 keeping downgrade ability to stock 2.2 in case i need to go to warranty. I tried to grab some info on this from existing posts and understood a bit but still a bit confused. (just that I dont want to get things wrong)
- Which version/build of CM7 is the latest and stable? Plz provide the link.
- What exactly I need to do to be able to downgrade to official 2.2 stock in order to get warranty in future. Plz explain this stepwise.
I went through the Defy Beginner's Guide. It helped but got confused regarding the following points:
- SBFs, Fixed SBFs, NanDroid Backup, CG versions (All related to make sure I can downgrade to stock 2.2 in future for warranty). Which option is suitable for me? Full SBF / Fixed SBF with Nandroid backup. What exactly I need to check/verify regarding CG versions?
Plz help me.
You will be able to go back to your previous firmware as long as you don't flash the full leaked gingerbread sbf. If you follow the CM7 faq/guide you won't have a problem. I am on 2208 nightly and have no issues. You can follow the guide and replace the rc1 by the nightly as it is a "boot" nightly. If you would like to try later nightlys, you have to flash latest boot first and next wipe cache and dalvic cache and then instal the nightly. Along as you don't flash another boot, the boot image stays the same. You only need to flash it ones, not with every nightly.

Defy 2.2 Re-Release Upgrade to CM7
1.Download superoneclick 1.9.5
2.In your mobile. Settings->Applications->Development(check USB debugging on)
3.Connect your phone to PC. Open superoneclick ->Click ROOT. Thats it your phone is rooted.
4.Restart your mobile.
5.Download 2nd init from android market. install the 2nd init recovery. It will ask the superuser permission Accept it.
6.Uncheck the USB debugging from Settings->Applications->Development and restart the phone now.
7.It will go in to bootmenu select normal boot at now.
8.After mobile booted copy the cm7 rc1 or nightly(whatever you downloaded) zip file to root of your SD card.
9.Restart the phone it will go in to boot menu or you can press vol - button when you see the blue led light.
10.Now go to recovery -> Custom recovery -> Wipe data/factory and Wipe cache -> Install zip file from sd card(select the zip file you copied to sd card) thats it. (Some times after install zip file from sd card goback and WIPE cache only to avoid some instability in fresh ROM)
11.After installation completed reboot the phone now it will go to the boot menu or press vol - button when blue led flash at booting. Make 2nd init as a default boot. thats it. You are in 2.3.5 gingerbread. I recommend CM7 nightly boot-179-4. it is more stable and having less bugs. defycm7.tanguy.tk/cm7-110822-1650-BOOT179-4-Jordan.zip[/url]
To downgrade to Stock rom it is very simple.
1.Download RSD lite and Motorola usb drivers to flash SBF file.
2.Download Stock froyo SBF for your region(Search xda forum)
3.Check USB debugging on your phone and connect to the pc and wait until all motorola drivers install.
4.Open RSD lite(right click and open as a administrator). It will show connected. Now select the sbf file you located on the system and click start and wait till it completes 100% process. thats it. it will flash your phone to stock froyo and it will automatically restart and boot.
Note: Some times when rebooting after RSD lite flash your phone stuck in bootloop(M logo or it continously loading in Android menu). It is better to go to stock recovery(Hold the vol - button and then power button and then release it. you will get android logo with exclamatory symbol. Press vol - and vol + button at the same time to get in to stock recovery). Select wipe data/factory and wipe cache.
*But i would recommend this method before you flashing the full stock sbf.

watz the diff b/w boot179 and nightly?
Also,how to install a boot??
The boot also change the boot.img and the modules. Boot contains things like wifi and kernel, these are taken from official sbfs. At first the were working with base roms for CM7 but with RC1 they included these so everyone will have the same experience. Later boot were for testing if some problems were still present. Latest seems to be better on wifi.
Edit: instal them just the same. If its the first time on cm wipe all in custom recovery, this will erase all apps, for update wipe cache/dalvic, and instal.
Sent from my MB525
but what if I directly flash nightly without rc1, then my boot of the current stock won't be replaced with cm7 properly working, huh??
OR
even the nightlies replace my current boot but the diff is just that boot179 is the latest one??
Only nightlys with boot in there name and the rc1 replace them. yes, if you install a normal nightly, your current boot will be kept. If you want to try the latest nightly, it is best to install the boot. If you com from the 17x(or way you just said) you don't have to do this.
Vinodh3 guide is very good. I would also suggest that nightly.
Sent from my MB525
My first and so far only CM7 installation on my defy was 110822 boot179 nightly.
I started off on vodafone uk 2.2.2 (179-4) firmware. I did not flash another sbf.
I rooted using super1click 2.1. This was the most difficult part, getting hold of motorola adb drivers.
Once rooted, I installed sndinitdefy 1.4_2. Copied the cm7 zip and gapps zips to my SD card. Rebooted a couple of times to make sure all was well.
Then in boot loader I wiped data, cache, dalvik cache, etc. Then applied the cm7 zip. Let it finish installation and boot, then once it was up and running in CM7, I rebooted and installed the gapp zip.
All going great here on that basis.
Guys, I read this topic as well as other ones but I remain confused about ROM versions I can install.
The thing is I was running stock 2.2.2 in my Defy and I got a CM7 RC1 on it. And now my system info says I'm running 2.3.4. Am I still able to go back to stock 2.2.2 as I haven't flashed any other SBF than stock one?
The other thing is: if I'd like to get a newer, nightly version of CM7 to get some minor bugs fixed, what version exactly can I get? Can I download the latest nightly build from 29th August, "cm7-110828-1034-NIGHTLY-Jordan.zip"? Will it work? Do I have to do a WIPE or I can install it with my current CM7 "as is"?
The amount of information I've read is so tremendous that I'm lost in everything. Please help
2908 is a bad one. Many bugs. Try 2208 or before 2908. No data wipe is needed. But do wipe cache and dalvic in advanced. Yes you can downgrade with ease. Only thing you should avoid is to flash the full ginger sbf from motorola. They are work around if you did won't to try that. If so, check greenginger(or something)
Sent from my MB525
i need to send my defy for warranty so i needed to downgrade from cm7 to stock froyo!
therefore, i wanna know will flashing full sbf remove everything such as root, 2ndinit etc??
and i just have to disable usb debugging before flashing full sbf or do i have to do something more??do i have to wipe cache nd data in stock recovery before flashing full sbf or later??
plzz tell me all the steps!!

[Q] Bricked Samsung Galaxy W (GT-i8150)

I soft-bricked my galaxy and there's no way to fix it, help! Okay, this is a what happened, I installed a custom ROM which worked out perfectly well until one day all applications started force closing for apparently no reason so I reboot and got stuck in a boot loop. I can only access download mode, recovery is out of the question. I tried to flash back to stock with Odin and it "passed" but the screen was just blank. So, I removed the USB cable hoping it will work and it got stuck in another boot loop. I tried everything that I could have think of but nothing works. It seems that I'm not the only one and is common for Galaxy W devices. Please help!
Also, in the worst case how do I send it back to Samsung? I mean, I know how to but will they fix it?
Location ?

dont worry , you can just flash it again. A new stock ROM would do. Its no problem.

did you full wipe before flashing stock rom?
what stock gaming rom, it is full recovery?
you may can try:
- flashing again cwm using odin,
- if succesfull, boot to cwm, format data and cache, except system
- try reboot normally.
- if failed, format everything, except your sdcard,
- flashing stock rom using odin, (better use stock rom provided for your country), use original stock rom, not modified rom ! with size more than 350mb, its contain recovery, baseand and everything you need. of course your cwm will be replaced after. you can flash again cwm after your phone boot normally.
good luck.

When I did the ''IV. I can access the clockworkmod recovery.
I have tried to ''wipe the cache partition'', ''wipe data/factory reset'' and wipe ''dalvik cache'' but it doesn't seem to work.
What should I do, I don't want cyangenmod after this haha I just want to know if there is a way to get the phone working.
Any answers would be appreciated

Some wrong sequence there :
Forgets the steps as per attachment.
In assumption the CM9 ROM.zip is in your SD Card...
Boot to CWM
Locate the CM9 ROM using and remember the location i.e. External SD etc
Now under Advance...Format all folders clean (not the folder containing the CM9 ROM)
Wipe / Format / Cache etc = the usual
Wipe Dalvik
Fix Permission
Flash the CM9 then GAPPS
Reboot...:good:
No need to back-up once you have used CM9...you will never go back to GB
If you insist on back-up just move all your treasures in your PC 1st, best to format the SD Card then move the ROM.zip to it

Back to Stock Rom Without Odin

Hello, this is my first thread here. I want to share my experience using android lol. I'm a noob, so this is maybe for noob too .
If you always changing your rom only to test or whatever, you may have to go back to stock rom via Odin. So, here I will tell you how to go back to stock rom without Odin .
Click to collapse
First, you need to be on stock rom, then go to cwm, then backup your fresh stock rom.
Now, try install a custom rom with custom kernel inside it. Then you want to go back to stock rom. Follow this.
Go to your stock rom files (PDA...blabla, MODEM....blabla, CSC....blabla), and open your PDA..blabla using winrar or whatever and extract the boot.img inside it to your sdcard. DON'T PUT IT IN A FOLDER.
Next, you need to download SGYbiCWM.zip below. Then, go into cwm.
1. Wipe data then make sure that system is mounted (look at mount and storage).
2. Install zip from sdcard and choose SGYbiCWM.zip
3. Then go to backup and restore - advanced restore. And restore system, data and cache from your backup of stock rom. (Don't restore your boot.img because you may get failed to restore boot.img of your backup of stock rom.
4. Wipe data again then reboot.
5. If stuck, try reinstalling SGYbiCWM.zip from cwm then reboot.
I'm a noob, so please guide me if I'm wrong. And, sorry for bad English .
Tools.

does not restore the kernel & init_rd. So SGYbiCWM does it manually.
But remember, under some kernels like MT 2.0 even SGYbiCWM does not work, so to restore a stock kernel under such circumstances you must issue the "dd" command inside SGYbiCWM manually in a root shell, or maybe as a script.
In fact, you may find a root shell script more handy than SGYbiCWM or CWM backup/restore.
instead of restoring cache you may want to wipe it. restoring sd-ext never worked here, so link2sd is problematic.
to sum up: in this menu :
, read:
the advanced nandroid restore of
boot.img kernel
cache
sd-ext
is of almost no use in this version of CWM for SGY. see attached screenies for advanced restore in CWM

Yeah, I have tried restoring stock kernel in merruk latest kernel using SGYbiCWM one day and it seems like failed/ makes me bootloop
Sorry for bad english
Hey can I use this to install the new kernel like white kernel without restoring the backup
Guys I installed cyanogenmod 7 (1.8)by whitexp successfully with white kernel 1.0.
Before installing cm7 I backed up my stock rom using cwm.
To install white kernel I used madteams cwm. Now I want to go back to stock rom from phone itself as I don't have a PC right now to use Odin.
I tried to install the stock kernel (boot.img) using sgybicwm.zip but wasn't successful.
And when I try to restore my nandroid backup through advanced restore >>restore system,
It says md5 mismatch...
Please help friends..
EDIT: got back to stock by odin..
I just did a silly thing while using odin..
First I selected all the three files and hit on start.
Everything went fine but there was no progress after that checking and files ok message that comes in left corner message box.
I waited for 10 minutes but no progress was showing on phone also, so I disconnected in between.
Well I was lucky that my phone booted up.
I tried another odin file and it worked.

yes, but maybe you want to install stock kernel (using SGYbiCWM.zip) before installing a custom kernel. then you can use the SGYbiCWM.zip to install a custom kernel in a stock kernel. Just put the custom kernel boot.img on your sdcard (not on a folder).

did you use madteam's cwm? on this method, the cwm used is cwm_bla_bla.zip, so maybe you will try using it

about your problem, the pda or modem file is on your odin flashable files and not on your cwm backup files. You just only take the boot.img from pda files. Then, you flash it manually using SGYbicwm.zip, then restore the backup from cwm. Read the post carefully

ODIN
well, being able to reflash without the help of a PC & ODIN is a huge advantage.
So I believe flashing with SGY only and w/o ODIN is the easiest way to flash. But ODIN has extra capabilities of course.

Hello, this is my first thread here. I want to share my experience using android lol. I'm a noob, so this is maybe for noob too .

CM 11 4.4 kitkat issue

Flash it from cwm... but after the flash completes, reboot recovery and do you're wipes ( again ) and flash kitkat from it's recovery. Then reboot.
Let it chill for a few minutes, then boot back to recovery and flash you're 4.4 gapps.
This process always worked for me on 4.3 and I'm assuming it will work on 4.4. But I've not flashed 4.4 yet. So proceed with caution.
Good luck...
I will try it when I get home from work so I can use Odin to flash a cwm recovery. Everytime I use mobile Odin to flash a recovery it bricks my phone ....why does that happen ?

I'm not sure about the mobile Odin issue... are you making sure the tar file for the kernel is a good download and that it is compatible with the Android version and rom you're trying to run...?
Try downloading the Directboot EL29 kernel from rwilco12's repo.. ( make sure you get the Directboot EL29 kernel and not the stock el29 kernel )
After you have it and the rom you want on you're sdcard... use mobile Odin to flash the el29 db kernel.. it should boot to recovery on it's own..
Push volume up, volume down, volume up... this enables the power button as the select button...
Do you're wipes... and flash 4.4...reboot recovery... do wipes.. ( data, cache, dalvik, and format system )...flash 4.4 again.. reboot.. settle in for a few minutes and then boot recovery and flash gapps 4.4...reboot.
Let me know how it goes... I'll stick around tonight until we get ya up and running...

Status 7 is a syntax error in the updater script... Probably missing a semicolon or something silly like that.

Not related to this issue, unsure if it would be better etiquette to make my own thread for this, but an issue I'm having with dastins CM11 ROM (12-04-13 version) is that I have two "Internal Storages" instead of one (I do not own/use a SD card)
On CM10/10.1/10.2 I had one internal storage, but on CM11 I have a 2GB internal storage and then a second internal storage (that things seem to not be installed to at all) with the remainder of my devices space.
One of the applications I used a lot on stock TouchWiz and earlier versions of CM is larger than two gigs, so on CM11 I can't even install it because it says I have insufficient storage. Is there a way I can combine the two internal storages into one, so it functions like it did on CM10.2 so I can use all of my devices space instead of only 2GB?
---------
Another question, and this one I'm probably just being blind and not seeing it, or maybe this setting is in a different location in KitKat, is my phone is set to USB mass storage instead of MTP. Normally I head over to Settings > Storage > hit the menu key and change USB connection type to MTP, but the menu key doesn't seem to do anything anymore on the Storage page. Where would I change to MTP instead of Mass Storage, or how can I just disable Mass Storage, I honestly don't care about being able to get any files on/off the device, but 90% of the time I'm charging on USB and I just don't want a full screen prompt showing up every time I touch my phone saying "Hey! It's Plugged In! Do you want to turn USB Storage on?"
You need to flash cm11 with the newest cwm... The old regular way of the"safe" recovery doesnt work... The easy way Is to download the blasphemy kernel and install it then boot back into recovery... It will be cwm 6.0.4.5... Flash the rom with this and no status 7...
Hope this helps...

I have an EL29 direct boot zip file that works with agats and even the newer cwms to flash back to.
I've tested it on the following recoveries and not had an issue at all:
agats (both 1.3 and 1.4), stock twiz, and the latest CWM they are useing.
I have gone to el29 direct boot with all of the above and had no issues, it goes into el29 recovery just fine.
DO keep in mind though I made this zip mainly for flashing into roms, not as a stand alone kernel, so you may have issues wif you use this as your standard go to kernel with the rom. Mst roms already have thier own kernel anyways, so that's normally not an issue, jsut so you are aware this is basically used for flashing roms not as the normal kernel.
I can host it on dev-host if anyone is interested, otherwise I won't bother.....and I ask because sometimes people just don't wanna be bothered, so I always ask......anyways let me know I will host it.
Just as a side note the steps I have done are as follows:
-reboot to recovery
-flash el29 zip file within said recovery (as I said I've tested this on all the above and it works fine)
-reboot recovery (it will be el29 now)
It should be back to the el29 recovery and you can flash from there.
Done this on hood pope (4.3), Viluminati (4.4 and 4.4.1 KitKat), cm10.1 (4.2.2) and stock Twiz rooted (not stock Twiz recovery) but agats recovery 1.3 and 1.4.
Those that don't know how to activate the power button to select what you do is toggle up > down >up > down until it says something about it being activated, you can then just use power to select your option.
kitkat 4.4.1
I rooted my device using rwilcos fl24 method although I was on a fd24 model. After root I flashed a custom recovery using Odin I believe it was agats...I then proceeded to flash a ROM cm10.1 then upgraded to cm 10.2. Now running KitKat 4.4.1 12/7 edition I believe and works like a charm...thought I had a battery problem because it wouldn't charge right it would take forever. I didn't I jus had to stop oc/uv ...BTW using the kernel that came with the rom flashed using cwm recovery from cm10 which was on jb not ICS and works fine little bugs here and there such as attempting to open incognito window fc browser the battery read when phone was off was inconsistent versus when the device is off but other then that KitKat is great if I can help anyone I'll be more then glad to I don't mind helping people that don't know I don't give attitude and noon user friendly, after all I was there once....besides all the guys who really know what thier doing are busy creating Roma and tweakimg programs to keep us happy let's make it a little easier on them like I said I don't know everything but I have some knowledge and if I'm able to point you in the right direction without wasting your time I will

CM 4.4.1 build 2013-12-07
Hey guys...Been rocking this build for a month now with no real problems. Only a couple of things i have noticed and thought I would drop in and mention since I haven't heard about it talked about in the main thread or here yet.
1. Every once in a while I will be showing full 3g bars and wont connect to the internet (says "no connection") I have fixed this with just toggling off and then back on the Sprint Radio Toggle in the drop down window. The phone will then immediately connect after.
2. During the first 2 weeks the camcorder was working...now its just borked. Every time i try to use it, it will just freeze up (the camcorder) and then force close. Then the camera is also unresponsive after trying to use the camcorder. I have tried to clear catch and force stop but the only way to fix this is with a reboot.
SPH-D710 EL26.....flashed to Boost Mobile with working Hangouts MMS and SMS from day one (no fix)
Build; 4.4.1 2013/12/07
Everything else is just ROCK SOLID, and love this ROM.

I am not sure what happen on this.
If I were you, my way is just backup those chatting apps (Whatsapp, viber, Line, etc) since I can manually back them up under their settings and restore them easily.
For the rest of apps, I will take note which apps I need. Then find and redownload them back.
As for documents, pictures, music, videos, I will manually copy them out and restore back.
There's another way, use Titanium Backup, but your note got to be root.
---------- Post added at 10:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 AM ----------
And one more, gapps. I use the link below to choose and download. I am using Resurrection Remix for tolte currently too.
https://opengapps.org/
Thanks for your reply, I will try this on the stock note2, so do I just back up to a external SD card and then transfer to my other note2 running reassertion?
however I am now getting the exact same error message (there was an error in trying to flash your recovery, unable to backup) on my custom ROM reassertion as well !
Both have root, I'm really just wanting to have play store and Viber on my custom ROM.
Thanks
huh? For playstore, download the gapps from the link I sent just now.
I install using twrp without issue.
Way1:
For viber, there is a backup in the viber setting. but for text only. For the media , you need to manually move them.
Way 2:
Since you have root, use titanium backup to backup viber and restore it over to new phone. That's all.
Well I seem to have found a problem that obviously doesn't help, I can't install the Gapps package as per 1st photo.
I then tried your suggestion of using titanium backup and again I get a error message as per 2nd photo.
I then checked to see what was going on with Root checker and it shows my device running custom ROM reasurrection remix is not root, how could this be?
It was root before installing remix, really weird.
Not sure what my next step is to get everything working.
Titatium backup works for root device only. You said it was root before RR rom, but when you go this RR, do you find a way to root it? If not, go for root first will be good for you to proceed.
Hey I did manage to get Gapps installed, had to re flash the ROM and was then working.
Ok so I have to root the phone again,, I didn't know that by flashing a custom ROM that I would lose this feature.
Hopefully this isn't to hard to do with this ROM installed.

There is a sequence here.
1. a)Confirm your phone model, (N7105, N7100, etc...) Make sure the customs rom is for the exact model of your phone. Download the zip file and put in your phone or sd card.
b) Gapps- Go and download from the link I posted on previous link with below choices. Put the file in your phone or sd card.
Platform: ARM
Android: Choose the exact OS of the RR rom.
Variant: Nano
2. Backup your media and stuff to PC or sd card if you need them.
3. Flash TWRP via odin tool.
4. Boot into twrp recovery mode, install the RR rom first. After finish install RR rom, Don't choose clear cache/dalvik or reboot. Just press Back button to return to TWRP main screen.
5. Then, Install Gapps file that you downloaded. After done, clear cache/dalvik and reboot. Then should be done.
But I am not sure the RR rom you use got preinstall Magisk root or not. So I can't comment anything on the root.
Ok thanks for this information, I have followed your instructions and all is good except root, I'm looking into the Magisk Manager
Also I noticed that only 2 custom ROM work on my note 2 (N7100) I've tried 4 others and they all get stuck on reboot (boot loop) they install without errors tho.
Can you recommend one in particular?

I am using RR made by kozmo21, it's for n7105 and magisk root is included.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...rom-resurrectionremix-v5-8-2-t3567769/page139
Here's the download link for the latest update he has done except magisk, you need to update by magisk manager:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904012906
Ok so I have tried a number of different ROMs and unfortunately I cannot get root access, magisk cannot be installed with any of the ROMs I've tried because I get error message "unable to install as magisk needs Android 5.0 or higher", it's weird because the custom ROMs I've managed to install are based on 7.0.
Also I thought you must have root access to be able to flash custom ROMs ? Root checker and superSU both say no Root ! The whole thing is strange.
But I'll keep trying any suggestions that you can offer, as I brought two Samsung note 2 to experiment with ; )

You may try the one I shared to you on previous message.
That one is RR from for n7105 with magisk root inside. I use it to flash without any problem.
If still got problem, try to flash the latest stock from (4.4.2), then install twrp. Reboot to twrp to wipe data, then install the RR rom. This work for me.
---------- Post added at 08:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:25 AM ----------
Based on your screenshot, you are using hyper from, I'm not sure on that one as I never try that. The link I shared is the one I am familiar with .
Hi there, ok so unfortunately I can't try the one you suggested as the is for the n705 which cannot be flashed to the n7100
However with a lot of experimenting I have decided to go with Viper Rom with Root.
I have a tried quite a few ROMs without root and having to gain access to this as a separate item is not always as easy as one would think!
Magisk seems only to be available with the right kernel on certain ROMs but not all ?
Ok, Now I get it. It is N7100 you are using. I keep on confusing on which you are using previously.
You can try this(RR rom For N7100), flash via TWRP:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/resurection-remix-n-5-8-5-20180825-t3837356
The RR rom above doesn't come with root. so try this way to go for Magisk root:
1) Go to this site: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
2) Download Latest Stable or Latest Beta. It will be downloaded as zip.
