Ok so I recently updated to a leaked 4.3 build and I'm really missing my adaway app. Is there a good ad blocking app yet for 4.3?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Can you not just use a hosts file. Thats pretty much all the apps do anyway, isn't it?
AdAway doesn't work on 4.3? News to me.

I installed the new root66 JB and it seems that ad-free android doesn't actually block ads anymore. It says my host file is up to date, and and I restarted but I still get ads in places that I didn't get before the update. Xda, Pandora, ect. Is anyone else having this problem?

You have to check the symlink if needed button and run it and it should work

I just had to go and find Ad Free again and install it. Cannot find it on google anymore, had to use dogpile. This app just disappeared from my tablet, I think google playstore had something to do with that. Now that it is reinstalled and working, is there anyway to protect this app from google trying to purge it again? Like with Titanium Backup or something? Thanks.
Google didn't purge it. Well they did, but only from their store.

Why not use what everyone else uses to remove ads, here is the link for "Adaway.apk" and it works just as well on JB or
any other versions of roms.
Here is the direct download link: http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/60362249/file.html
The play store no longer supports any add-blocking apps that's why you will not find it there.
Good Luck!
Now that ad blockers have been removed from Play, are there any good alternatives?
UPDATE: I have found an alternative for AdFree Android. I am now using AdAway thanks to F-Droid and I have found I like it much better. Thank you to all who assisted in giving answers.
Uh.. You can still use adblockers legally you just have to download them from the devs website instead of the play store.

What adblockers were removed? The Air Push ads?
All of them I think...

Yep...a quick search now lands the same info over and over. It also lands a lot of speculation in which direction google is heading.
Just to clarify, I will state that I am not necessarily against ads as it helps independent developers. If I like the app enough i will support the developer if they will allow for a purchase that is ad free. I have purchased around 20 or so apps (some I no longer use) so I have no qualms doing this. However, I have experienced some apps in which the ads are overly instrusive and actually hinder some of the functions of the app temporarily due to being in the way. These "few" are the reason I have resorted to ad blockers.
For now I have installed F-Droid and I am using AdAway and I like it a lot. I am now content.
I've been using AdAway too but the last app update (March 7th I believe) actually allows ads. Are you having this problem as well?

I have had no such issue. Still blocking ads. In fact AdAway is working even better than AdFree Android did. There were a couple of apps that I still got ads in before and now they are even ad free.
Are ads coming through all of your apps that support ads, or just some of them? If all ad supported software is showing ads then you need to update your hosts file via AdAway.

I updated the hosts file beginning of March and then started getting ads. Before that I was getting none. Today they updated the hosts files again and ads are once again gone. yay!
Just as the title says.
Couldn't figure out what had happened and why it wasn't working.
Uninstalled and all is working fine. Liquid smooth and PAC.
Also Google voice won't allow emojis. That one had me scratching my head too.
Hope this helps someone lol.

Nope, no ad block at all in the play store anymore. Google it and find the apk on fdroid. There is also someone on xda who packaged up an apk from source but I can't find the thread.

Just an FYI, the newest version of ROM Toobox Pro doesn't have the ad blocking feature specifically built in anymore. Just a manual host file editor. In some update notes I think I read that it had to be removed via a request from the Play Store overseers.
I downloaded the apk adaway to my 4shared account. I will post the link. In joy ! http://www.4shared.com/android/4U7oOpqc/AdAwayv23.html

You can also use an ad blocker app; most of them have been removed from the playstore however. I use Adaway and I have never had any problems. You can search google for the apk or stick with Rom toolbox.
It is weird that in Rom TB they dont have it out in the open like they used too...

That's going to be different than other adds, I don't think you are going to be able to stop those with an ad blocker. You will more than likely have to buy it or live with it.
I have the latest version of rom toolbox pro and it has the add blocker in the settings and it works great. Turned it on the day I got my note and I've never seen an add
