Is there a way to set the output resolution to less than 1080p on the slimport?? I'm trying to stream some 1080p live content and it's too laggy.

Well,as a proud ion user here,I wanna ask some question
Ion have 720p display which if play 720p video,it will fit perfectly on screen...well,I've been downloading 720p anime and it runs perfectly without errors...
What I am confused is : Is ion support 1080p video playback with its hardware?
I mean, even if the screen resolution isn't 1080p and oversize the 1080p video,I still can make it fit on my screen using MX Player...
Just the total question : Does it support 1080p video?

the physical pixel dimensions of the Ion's screen is ~1280 x 720 (not sure if its exactly that, but its close)
the phone's hardware, though, is capable of outputting 1080p video...the 1080p stuff is for outputting to a HDTV via HDMI.
if you play a native 1080p video in MX player, what happens depends on your scale settings in the player. If its full screen, you set the scaling to 'fit to screen' or whatever its called...and its actually 720p...if you set to full scale, it'll play it in 1080p, but it will be zoomed in...even at 100%, as all the pixels can't fit on the 720p screen.
I'm pretty sure the stock player doesn't give you the options of full scale...it'll just fit it to the screen regardless...but MX player does let you 'see it' in 1080p, it just won't all fit...i had to mess with this because all my top gear episodes are in 1080p...

Thanks for replying, well now you confirmed it that ion can play 1080p video...well does it have any problem with it?

I push 1080p episodes of Top Gear via HDMI pretty regularly, and it works great. I can't comment on sound though, as i don't have HDMI running from my TV to my receiver...so its just TV speakers, but it works and everything...
I can't remember what type those files are, i wanna say they are .mkv ...but not positive...i just know its something my PS3 won't decode, so i have to use the phone...nearly any other video file i've used the PS3 plays fine, so i don't have to use the phone...
I will say though...MX player hated these types of files for the first few minutes...it only did it the first time i ever played one...it would get out of sync and stutter a lot...but after about 5 minutes it smoothed out and i never had an issue since...not sure if that is cache related or something, just saying though...don't give up if its a little wonky at first, it'll probably smooth out fine...
Assuming I have 4K content locally in my network/SD Card, can I play it in true 4K resolution to my TV (4K tv)?
Usually I use Kodi for multimedia, but I dont mind trying something else for the experience.
Hi, I am trying to play UHD videos shot by the G4 on an LG TV that has 4K resolution (remember UHD and 4K are not the same thing). The video proportions seem to be altered into something narrower. I am using VLC media player and have already tried the "A" shortcut to experiment all the available formats, but none seems to bring proportions back to normality. I have also tried out all the TV available formats, with no success. When I play the same videos on my laptop, I finally get the right proportions. Any suggestion to solve this problem?
Thank you
How are you playing them? Are you using an USB stick connected to the TV or a PC? I had issues with playing some videos with the built-in player from my LG TV.
By means of 4k 60fps capable hdmi cable attached to a laptop
What player are you using? How powerful is your laptop? G4 records at a high bitrate, it can really stress your laptop. I suggest re-encoding them with a lower bitrate.
Bitrate is fully supported, the problem is with format / proportion not with performance.
Thank you
Like I said, try to re-encode the files from the G4.
Could you please suggest a tool for re-coding? Thank you
Handbrake is by far the most easier to use https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php. It also has versions for all major OS-es, I am using it for a while now on Windows (it also has multithread). It can also do HEVC (H265). Just make sure you select a high enough bitrate for H264 (talking from encoding 4K videos). Try with a smaller file when you perform some tests, I would recommend using about half of the bitrate the G4 produces (probably 15 Mbit bitrate should be enough for H264). For H265 I would recommend using 5 Mbit bitrate, this encoder is still new.
I was wondering what apps everyone uses to make the most of the 4K screen?
youtube in 4k works in chrome browser when set in desktop site and when enabling hardware acceleration in vlc player it will be able to display in 4k (tested with a demo video)
Does Twitter run in 4K now?
It seems considerably sharper to me than other apps
I'm primarily interested in the Tab S4 as a media consumption device. To that end, I was wondering if the Tab S4 dynamically changes its refresh rate to accommodate fullscreen 24p or 25p (48hz and 50hz, respectively) video content without judder. I know the Tab S4 doesn't have the 120hz adaptive display of the ipad pro, but I wonder whether it pulls off the same tricks below 60hz, its native refresh rate. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can test 24p and 25p content (like BBC series for the latter) in Netflix, amazon, or local files through the native player or MX Player or VLC. Slow panning shots of wide vistas best show whether a display is playing content without judder or applying some cadence to it to fit it into 60hz. Thanks a bunch
It does not change refresh rates, at least for video. Also on Netflix it has some limitations. It only plays up to 720/30p. Still looks sharp enough though and actually I wouldn't have noticed if not for the test patterns. As for the 30p limitation, I don't know any content in higher than that fps.
Also no HDR in YouTube!
720p Netflix....oh my
