I'm just outside of Raleigh, NC, and these are my speeds to the server at Duke.
These seem slow compared to my Droid RAZR. Is it because of the metal back?

"...compared to my droid razr." He didn't say it was slow in general.
OP, I've noticed a decrease in speed with my One, compared to other phones from what I remember (it's been a while since I've done a speed test with another phone), however it could be that more and more people are getting LTE capable phones at a fast pace, which can result in slower speeds. Network congestion and whatnot.
Dang... Those are pretty good speeds. I'm in the mountains outside of Seattle. Used to be a lot faster until all the damn neighbors got 4g phones!
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
One thing I learned is speed test is never accurate and you will constantly see the network in many areas the lte speeds are never constant. Where I live my speeds has been 12 best and that's with the bolt, rezound, and one. So to many variables to say its the phone but I have seen the gnex suffer with speeds. I would ask if the op right after testing the one did he run it on his droid?
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
Speed tests are pretty accurate. Just depends on congestion. Seattle has a greater pop. than Raleigh which has a greater pop. than SE Iowa and the speeds are inversely proportional to that. I just pulled 30mbps in KC but its also 5:35 am. During the day I can only get around 17mbps.

I live in far up north raleigh, near Falls Lake. At home I usually get around 6-8 down. 4G is really not that great where I live.
You think that's slow? Heh, good thing you don't live in the northeast. The 4G network has gone to crap here from Washington DC all the way to Boston. There are places where you can hit below 1 Mbps, or worse, completely unusable during the daytime. I can only get 20 when I'm either standing below a tower or in the middle of a cornfield out west.
Even Verizon admits it's getting really bad in large cities.
I just tested mine. I live in Sussex County, NJ, which is in the sticks.

Here is my delima, I am deciding if I want to leave T-Mobile after 12 years of service. I have great coverage everywhere except the two places I need it the most, my house and my work. For some reason at my work I can only average about 200kbps down tops and that's on hpsa+ it's so bad and can't even stream Pandora. I run a tire shop and we all take turns streaming music its embarrasing when I try to stream and it keeps cutting out. So I own a vibrant but am looking to upgrade to this phone and was wondering since the phone is capable of higher speeds, would I see an improvement? i don't know if you noticed
but i've seen a lot of this that goes hand in hand, in a lot of videos and reviews
whenever you get REALLY good 11+ Mbps download speeds, the ping time is always high in speedtest app
if you have good ping time, usually the speed is average, like less than 8 Mbps
maybe that's just how the cell towers behave?
personally, i can say with this phone it has been a HUGE!!!!!!!! improvement on network speed compared to my Nexus S
areas where i average get 4~5 Mbps down, now i can get over 8 Mbps down
phone reception wise has also improved a lot, areas where i used to have no reception or poor reception now i can get good reception with this phone
before i purchased the phone i was betting on the Qualcommn chipset + radio as it was widely advertised and it did really pay off
i'm sure if they used a Exynos the reception would have been crappy like on the Nexus S

Thank you gentlemen for your responses, I have made my mind up and will be purchasing this phone. Hopefully Miui is on the horizon!
A port of it is in process as well as cm7.
Ok, just got my Galaxy Nexus today after defecting from AT&T when they throttled my download speed for being in the top 5% on an unlimited plan, even though it was LESS THAN 4GB. (when I say throttled, I mean from typically 8-10Mbps to around 3-5Kbps... KBPS!) So I said, fine AT&T, I've been drooling over the nexus anyway, peace be da journey.
...but I digress...
After playing around with things, downloading apps, familiarizing my self with the wonderment that is ICS, I decided to do a speed test (ookla/speedtest.net):

Is this typical?? Did I just happen to be standing in an LTE vortex of some kind?? I didn't think it was supposed to be THAT fast...sheesh. Either way I'm lovin this phone...
LTE is indeed that fast. By far the fastest network. I regularly get 25mb/s down in Chattanooga.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
In Portland, OR I usually get 32 MBPs Down and 15 MBPs Up. My slowest speed test ever was 12 MBPs with 1 bar of 4G.
Welcome to the best network in the country, you get what you pay for!
That's definitely on the fast side, but yea its usually at least 15 Mb/s
I have gotten more
I have gotten 57mbps!
Yeah it is pretty fast

I usually use 3g but 4g here is always well in the 20s mbs.
I would say
Slow lte is about 10 mbps
Average is 25ish
Fast is 35 and up.
My best was 48 mbps.

I've seen quite a bit of those speeds in New York. When I visit the city, I constantly get 50mbps. In South Jersey, I get about 20mbps. Not as fast, but more than enough considering the tower I'm connecting to is the one in Philadelphia. Really great how much range the towers get.
Mid 20's to mid 30's is about average from what I have been seeing.
Still trying to break the 40 Mb/s mark.
Maybe I should try it while I'm not downloading stuff in the background?
I get around 40-50mbps down and 10-20 up around campus/downtown, but at my apartment its usually between 10-20mbps and 5-10 up. Downtown=4 bars, my apartment = 2 bars.
Ya I get fron 20 to 40 down. It makes me laugh, ATT is throttleing their already slow network. Thats like taking a tricicle and adding an anchor because its to fast.
ATT dumb ass's. I hope everyone quits them.
Wow, some fast speeds in here! The fastest I've seen on mine is 11Mb up, 11Mb down. At home I get around 8Mb down if I stand in the right spot, but usually around 4-5Mb, so I just use my home internet. I haven't tested in a lot of places though, so maybe there are some faster areas around me.
My average is 20mpbs up and like 12 down in Worcester Massachusetts
Damn those are some fast speeds, I only get like average around 15 in the OC with my max being around 23-24. Still, that is pretty fast compared to typical 3G speeds.

There has been discussion, but has anyone found the magic formula? I know many people say the modem is completely independent of the ROM. But others have made the argument that data speeds are married to both.
So, what is your ROM/Kernel/Modem combination and data speeds as well as your location?
I'm in North San Diego County on AOKP B34 ROM, FD24 KERNEL, and FD19 modem. This is not a very good marriage. But Sprint 3G speeds in San Diego suck, have sucked, and probably will suck for the immediate future. Best DL speeds have been 800 kb/s and uploads at around 200 kb/s.
Modems work different for every phone..so there is no "magic combination" sorry =(

Its probably a PA thing. Sprint has been horrible in San Diego. Every metro area has 4G except San Diego. But even AT&T 3G is 10 times faster than Sprints 3G.
I had unlimited plan and left AT&T because they throttled me. But, even when they throttled me, it was faster than Sprint.

Go figure! It makes no sense at all not to have cities with high pop densities without 4G (or well serviced 3G). Yet, Sprint finds a way to avoid the common sense virus.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I know a well ranked agent who is pretty close with a certain "Tiffany" who some of you may have heard of, and supposedly the Phila switch is going to be flipped sometime in the third week of August. Metro areas that had "sufficient" 3G coverage were automatically skipped through the first and sometimes second pass of LTE implementation.
Squeakiest wheels got the grease first, is what I've heard and read.
Incidentally, don't be too upset about this, as LTE (from personal experience) has not been all that great anyway. I've been in Chi, Miami/Ft.Laud, DC and Baltimore and only in one of those markets (frigging Baltimore of all places!!) was I getting better than 11Mbps down and better than 6Mbps up (i got 17Mbps down, 10Mbps up). Both DC and Miami/Ft.Laud were marginally slower than my home WiFi which is typically around 10Mbps down and 6Mbps up, and Chicago was absolutely pathetic all three times I've been there since Feb, coming in roughly on par with Philly-area HSPA+/4G.
Incidentally, my experience has been with this phone as well as my Note i717, both top-end devices.
Plus, remember that even a strong LTE signal (let alone a weak one, god forbid....) will drain the piss out of your battery, a heck of a lot quicker than good old fashioned HSPA+.
Just my $.02.

speed test made and skewed by sprint?
do you know what the others are rated at?... there a reason why sprint rates that low cuz their user load will be crazy and slow to a crawl like the last couple years.
also they have inferior spectrum holdings /backhaul ( there using microwave in some places) and from my personal experience they are rarely/ never pay to be at the top of a tower
atts hsdpa is capable of 6 megs not to mention their lte is faster + 800 coverage has been around for a while for them ill be lucky if i ever see 800 coverage in st pete.
... just simple facts not knocking ya or anything ( or sprint for that matter)
im happy with them finally after backhaul to my tower by my house got installed finally see over 1 meg some times on cdma altho nv/lte is not complete
Please discuss LTE in the sticky thread
Thanks
