Possible to have S-Pen cursor on Cyanogenmod? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently installed Cyanogenmod 10.2 through the CM Installer and the look and feel loving stock android a lot. I understand that the framework for touchwiz is not present which causes CM to not be able to have any of the s-pen functionality. However, is having the cursor that shows where the s-pen is currently hovering above part of those "features" that require the Touchwiz framework? Afterall, the functionality of it working as a mouse over still works in browsers, only the cursor is missing. Are there any way to perhaps use the wacom tablet's sensors as a mouse input which will display the "mouse" cursor on wherever the s-pen is pointing at?

yes u can get that its somewhere in settings ill tell u when i myself find it again
somewhere in display or accesibility or input etc

I found this app, it should allow you to do so.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.spencontrol&hl=en
Also most of the ROMs, have this feauture built-in.

I don't think GMD shows the pointer where your spen is hovering above at, does it? At least the description doesn't seem to say so, can anyone actually confirm before actually plonking 6 bucks into the app?

Thanks a lot! I actually found it! Didn't scroll far down in the Language & Input sections.. However this begs the next question, can the mouse pointer icon actually be changed?

changing input method on the fly

Is there anyway to change inputs methods on the fly so to speak? in my galaxy and galaxy s2 a long press would being up a menu and u would be able 2 change the input method by that but i have noticed that on the gs3 it doesnt give you that option. am i just missing something in the settings? the main reason i ask is b/c i manly use swype but sometimes with longer messages ill use the better keyboard and its kind of a hassle 2 have 2 go into settings and change it back and forth. thank you
I'm on stock S3 and also mainly using swype. I've noticed that while the swype keyboard is open, you can change the input method by pulling down on the notification bar. It's not as convenient as simply holding a button but since you're already texting and the keyboard is open, it's only an extra step to access on the fly.

thank you for that info, sewhuy! Adding that it indeed is there in the notification area no matter what your default keyboard is. I'm now doing this to change between SwiftKey and LastPass.....it's things like this that i hope they really focus on and improve in key lime pie .....long press in the text box indeed would be the best solution.
This Rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818
has the mod that allows you to change input methods on the fly...
The rom is awesome, please check it out!

s-pen handwriting

s-pen and handwriting recognition is quite cool, but how do you set it up to automatically put spaces in between words you write? I'm sure it must be an option but I can't seem to find it, and writing by hand is slower than just typing with thumbs if you have to keep hitting the space bar manually.

I'm a little perplexed at how difficult it is to find tutorials about the s-pen considering how popular reports claim this phone is. Are users simply enjoying a big phone and not exploiting the s-pen????
If im not mistaken this happens by default. Ive noticed if you just put a large enough space between the words or write one word underneath the other it will create a space. Hope this helps.

I still have missed out on a lot of neat options. I have developed a few habits, like whipping it out to take a quick note or something, but I still hit the buttons with my fingers instead of using the shortcuts. I am still unsure how the gestures work under the s-pen menu in the settings. Do I have to click the button? Does it only work in certain places? I don't get it, I tried to use the default ones to no avail, nor do custom ones work. I think it's because I use a different launcher actually, I forgot I already thought of that :x. Eh.
Like knarfies said, if you put a decent amount of space in-between the words it will automatically create the space. I also like writing at the top and just come down below the first word and it creates the space for me that way.
Also you can do a backwards L to do enter. You can do a quick swipe to the right to enter a space. You can do - by going back and forth to make it. You can also hold down the spen button and swipe left on the word or letters you want to erase.
I really got the hang of writing with it. One thing that does irk me though. It has problems with words having letters and numbers. I write down a car VIN and I have to do a delay in-between letters and numbers. Otherwise it just becomes a mess and VIN numbers need to be 100% correct when doing customer invoices.
If you are rooted, you can install the MyScript Notes app. It has much better HWR, converting your writing to text after you write a string of words, adding spaces automatically.
The app can be found in the apps section, look for a thread by cajunflavoredbob.

anyone know how to remove spen without unlocking the phone on lockscreen
Yeah this phone is great even without the S-Pen, and the things I do use the S-Pen for, don't really need a tutorial (more accurate selecting, drawing, taking notes, and hover in browser which is awesome for opening drop down menus)
However, the handwriting recoginition for chinese characters is AWESOME... if only i really knew how to write chinese
How do you use the pen to "write" texts rather than using the keyboard? I am able to "write" over the keyboard and see the writing but all I get is the letters from the keyboard that the pen touched while writing.

If you are using the samsung keyboard, i just press the button on the right of the "Sym" button, the one with "T" and it goes to the text writing using S-pen. Im not sure of any other ways. Maybe there is a way to make it default.

You can also go into samsung keyboard settings have change it so that it auto detects when the pen has been removed.
I've been enjoying s-pen for small stuff. like others have said, more accurate selections, web browsing tricks, etc
I saw someone mention using the back/menu buttons with s-pen (i have to use my fingers to tap those)...how does one use the home/back/menu buttons with s-pen? I have no idea
Long-press on the microphone key at the bottom of the keyboard, then select the "T" (the one with the little pencil next to it)
To view various helps, tutorials and setting options for the keyboard and handwriting recognition, tap the Gear symbol that pops-up after long-pressing the microphone key (as above). Alternatively, go to Settings/Language and Input then tap the Gear symbol next to "Samsung keyboard".
Explore. Lots of things appear when you explore.
While on the topic...
I wonder if I am the only one to have this happened to me, or if I am simply bone-headed, but all of a sudden the Samsung keyboard stopped working properly. It doesn't let me 'swype' anymore (the option is checked in the settings, but greyed out for some reason) and even though I have it setup so that it would go into handwriting recognition after pulling the pen out, it does not.
I noticed the change after "updating" the English dictionary in the 'input Languages' setting. Not sure wether or not it is related...
However, quite annoying...

Use the built-in gestures with the s-pen to do the back and menu. While pressing on the s-pen button, draw < to go back, or > for menu.
There is no gesture for home, but I ended up getting Taskarou (an launcher overlay), or you could use Button Savior to go back to home.

To bring up the gestures menu you press and hold the s pen button off screen while keeping it pressed, swipe up with the pen touching the screen. A little box pops up and then you can draw the gestures there. This can be done regardless of what launcher you use and it doesn't matter what app you are using.

[Q] Mouse over with S-Pen

Well I just got my hands on a Note II and I was wondering, is there a way to make mouse over instant using the S-Pen as a hardware mouse?
the pen work as a mouse, activate air view in s-pen settings and you can see a dot when the pen is close to the screen. If you over that dot in webpages, it works as a mouse, handy for hovering menus.

Elaborate please. i fail to understand what youre trying to achieve
just to note, it will hover even if you have Air View turned off. just that you won't see the dot.
but yes, it will act just as if you had a mouse and were hovering over an item.

what I want to do is open popup submenus in webpages. for example in newegg, in the homepage, if you put your cursor over a category a popup windows will open with all the sub categories. now, if you don't only place your cursor there but click it, it will transfer you to a different page. but to do that in android you have to hold your finger on the link, and wait for the popup to popup . so what I want is to use my s-pen as a hardware mouse.
Mine does that already. If i just hover over a menu it will automatically pop out.
As far as i know all i did was turn on airview. Everything else is stock

S Pen right click

It appears that S pen is functioning like a mouse in android - for example in dosbox hovering will move mouse around and tapping will click it. And as far as I saw (screenshots only, so excuse me if I'm wrong) CM will also recognize S pen as mouse pointer.
However, there is a small problem: there is no right click. And since I don't use gestures really: Is there a way to remap button on S-pen to function as right click?

I'm looking for the same thing and I've tried many apps with no results, but these apps might point you to the right direction:
CM S Pen Add-on Can detect the S Pen button actions.
Xposed Addition Can remap hardware buttons.
So the thing to get the S Pen button actions be recognized as buttons. Then it would be easy to remap it with Xposed Additions.
Good luck!

Remap spen button?

Hey all, is there a way to remap the spen button to something else other than bringing up the air command menu?
I use Papyrus a lot and would like to remap the s pen button to switch to the Papyrus eraser.
Sounds like a potent rom feature or maybe an xposed module... I couldn't find much on this... Try looking in the note 2 and note 3 forums... If it can be done it on those I would think it would be done the same way... I would be surprised if you didn't need root though.
Any word?
Does anyone know if there's been any development on this?

I'm neck deep in smali files, looking for this. Just give me a bit. Unless a more experienced developer shows up, I'll try my best to find something for you. But be gentle
note buddy app
This is not a way to remap spen button but i think its a great and easy workaround
Note buddy app has auto launch you can set to open papyrus when spen is removed.
Also can easily set attach and detach sounds
Then goto spen in settings to turn off stock sounds and disable detachment from air command to none
