My roms are stock. Changes in the OP. Saranhai's Rom is customized. Changes in the OP.
You don't get screwed by security with the roms.

so i should stick with you guys' ROMs and away from official? or at least until rooted right? i was just wondering which one's more stable haha

We may want to explain why the fact that Stock Bootloader update is one way street to the user.

Is 4.3 a real upgrade?
Other than the problem of rooting, which I do not, is 4.3 better / as stable or a downgrade from 4.1.2. I am having a lot of difficulty deciding what is best for me. I saw one post that suggested reception was not as good. That would be a big deal to me. And battery would be another. Also, the memory issue where you need to shut down programs so you don't crash putting things on the clipboard.
I have the T-Mobile S3 if that makes any difference.

Question is why aren't you all Nexus 5 yet? Lol kidding.
But my question which is a question that I actually don't know is can you use CF Autoroot on 4.3?

cf auto root will work with 4.3. btw, congrats on the RC!
my question: are there plans to rebase the roms previously created with the leak? is it possible we can inject root, remove knox and create an odin flashable tar with the ota?

I'm running StockMOD and have found great improvement around bluetooth and audio. My plantroinics BT headphones aren't as laggy. My external DAC doesn stutter any more. My BT remote control doesn't tell me the Samsung Keyboard has been made default again (but I think I fixed this when I removed the samsung keyboard).
The only thing I've lost is Google Wallet tap to pay (and now that the Sprint 4.3 update is out, I hope to get it working again).
4.3 was worth it to me, but I use a bunch of stuff that most don't.

random superuser requests
So i flashed the deodexed knox free zip, as well as tried my hand at debloating (mostly from the list on doc holidays leak post) and since then random system apps (factory mode, rilNotifier, wssyncmlnps, MTP application, and oddly android system) has constantly been asking for root rights, its not a huge deal, as I've hidden the notifications from them but it is kinda perplexing... does anybody know what would cause this?

it's possible during your debloating process, you accidentally removed something that would cause problems

Any of you have had camera issues? Whenever I set some settings it freezes up on me..
I'm not rooted ...

How is wifi after the update? Saw one report it was not as good.

CF-AUTO-ROOT does NOT work with 4.3 after factory reset.
I had stock 4.1.2 rooted with CF-AUTO-ROOT. I upgraded to 4.3 using Kies. For the most part everything seemed to work after the upgrade. I had some weird behavior with download notifications but was fixed after clearing the app data in application manager. As expected, I lost root. I then re-rooted using CF-AUTO-ROOT. This worked! I initially got the KNOX security notifications but after clicking through all of them, root was still there. I ran this for about a day, restarted the phone a few times and root was kept. All was good except the GPS wouldn't start when starting Waze or Maps. I would have to disable and re-enable GPS to get it to work. I've had weird problems before after a firmware upgrade which were all fixed after a factory reset. I proceeded with the reset.... this is when ALL THINGS WENT TO HELL!!!
After the factory reset, I lost root. SuperSU will not start. I get the KNOX notifications and clicking through all of them this time did not work.
I honestly didn't check after the initial successful root of 4.3 but now I get
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
...
Warranty Bit: 1
I think the 1 count is from the second root attempt after the factory reset.
Bottom line. DON'T UPDATE TO 4.3 IF YOU WANT ROOT. And if it do have it, DON'T DO A FACTORY RESET. At least not for now.

[SIZE=+1]Q8: Can I flash a new recovery without rebooting my GNOTE 3?[/SIZE]
Yes. Place the recovery.img on your sdcard root. Open a terminal emulator and type "su flash_image recovery /sdcard/xxx.img". (Note: The x's are the name of the recovery as some may hold a different name. If not on the sdcard root folder, specify the folder /sdcard/xxx/xxx.img!)

For setting up ADB see What is ADB (above) logcat allows us to log what the OS is doing, and possibly offer information if things are not working. its quite simple to create but may be difficult for most to understand. This is a tool a Developer may ask for in detecting issues your device may be encountering.
To use logcat
Code:
adb shell
logcat
To logcat to a certain file do
Code:
adb shell
logcat -d > /sdcard/whatevertexfileyoulike.txt
For a full explanation follow the link in What is ADB

Some roms have "time" issues with getting a gps lock. This is a known issue with all custom Roms.
[SIZE=+1]Q16: How do I get the best out of my Rom?[/SIZE]
Depending on what Rom you choose. Once you go to the "THEME" sections there are many more mods for your selected rom. Always try different Roms to fit your liking.
[SIZE=+1]Q17: Titanium Backup ask if I would like to restore my original ID Code after I flash roms, what should I do.?[/SIZE]
Do to the mass amount of custom roms, some internel phone setting get changed by default. You should always restore ID codes and native handset information when possible.
[SIZE=+1]Q18: How loud is too loud?[/SIZE]
That realistically is up to you. Rule of thumb, if your sounds is distorted, even the least bit, then lower the settings. Distortion is a warning sign, and prolonged use can damage your hardware.
[SIZE=+1]Q19: I have about 4gb of data missing from internal storage I cannot find. Where is it?[/SIZE]
Recovery uses a large amount of data for backups. TWRP saves by default, backups to the /sdcard/twrp or /sdcard/0/twrp directory. Make sure you delete old or unused backups.
[SIZE=+1]Q20: I need to return my rooted phone for a replacement. Does returning to stock work?[/SIZE]
Yes. Follow the instructions on the forum for unrooting and flash the Odin stock file. If you flash an earlier version, make sure to accept updates to get your phone back to factory. Knox 0x1 will affect rather your warranty will be honored
[SIZE=+1]Q21: What is so different about the Galaxy Note 3 that should get me to upgrade from the Note 2?[/SIZE]
Other then the hardware and screen upgrades, you can read the the 45+ Ultra-Advanced Features of the Note 3 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441935 Thread by Ipsuvedi
[SIZE=+1]Q22: While restoring using Titanium Backup, I get constant FC's. How do I fix this?[/SIZE]
The TB Team is working on a fix for the SELinux links in the new system. For the time being, everytime you restore apps using TB you will need to run TB Restore Fixer found here
[SIZE=+1]Q23: Does restoring in recovery break my phone? I fear the "brickloops"!?[/SIZE]
Not with TWRP version 2.6.3.5 <<CLICK - problems existed with earlier versions but basic restores (boot, system, data) are now working as they should. Thanks to dwitherell for the Q&A

Nice FAQ.
I knew the answer to every question but one, so hey, I learned something. Namely, I had no idea that the "flash_image" util was so prevalent. I assumed it was a touchwiz-only thing, but I just checked and it's also present on my CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM as well. Doing a "flash_image recovery /sdcard/twrp_foo.img" is certainly easier than having to remember the correct partition to manually 'dd' to (though still not as easy as just using GooManager).
One other Q for the FAQ:
Q: Is it too big?
A: No.
Does it perfectly work with AT&T's network? (including LTE)
Yes!

It's the annoying space-wasting notification that TouchWhiz shows when you have NFC enabled. Stock Android doesn't do that.

[ROM][LEAK #2] T-Mobile 4.3 - Build UVUEMJC - PureStock & Deodexed - Knox & CiQ Free

[ROM][LEAK #2] T-Mobile 4.3 - Build UVUEMJC - PureStock & Deodexed - Knox & CiQ Free
T999 4.3 Leak OFFICIAL
Build UVUEMJC
Well, as most of you by know have realized, the Official 4.3 has been released! As it turns out, I was correct that the Leak#2 was to become our official build! What this means is that the Roms built from the leak and the Roms built from stock will essentially be identical. I have decided to build one from the official since I know most of you would prefer it that way anyway. I will keep the leaked versions posted for now as well, in case anyone wants to use them. Should you use one over the other? I doubt it. Ill say to use the rom built from official source though, simply because it is official.
Some of you will have already updated by flashing the official firmware via Odin, or by receiving the OTA update. Some will have been lucky enough to come in later and found it not to be the best idea to update yet. Because of this I will be including instructions for each situation. It may seem a little confusing at first, but just take it at face value and don't try to read extra into it and you should do fine!
WARNING!!!
If you have NOT updated via the official firmware or OTA update, it is highly recommended that you do NOT do so at this time!
You can still run these roms and gain every advantage, with none of the problems!
Instead of flashing the full firmware or OTA, I recommend flashing the deodexed, Knox free build of this Rom for now. I believe it should be the perfect replacement for the official update if you just want to run stock rooted. It has been proven to run smooth, fast and stable! Many have reported it to be the best build to date for our S3, and personally, I agree!
Alternatively, please check out @saranhai's Rom, .::StockMOD ROM::. | TouchWiz 4.3 | Stock & Slim Versions | UVUEMJC as well. It uses mine as a base, but is a bit more customized.
Downloads
Based on Official Release
T999_Official_UVUEMJC_Deodexed_KnoxFree
Dev-Host Mirror
Installation
If you have already updated via OTA or Odin flashing the official firmware:
Flash the T999_Official_Deodexed Rom
Flash the slightly older MJ4 modem, IF YOU CHOOSE. This is not necessary though.
Enjoy and report back to me if WiFi and everything seems to be working ok.
If you have NOT updated to the official release yet:
Flash the T999_Official_Deodexed Rom
Flash the MJ2 ATT kernel
Flash your choice of the two modems in the OP.
Enjoy!
Based on the Leaked Build
Please thank @Prod1702 if you see him! Without his willingness, determination, and commitment to XDA, I would not be able to present you with this brand new build! He seriously stuck it through well beyond what I would've ever expected anyone to put up with! Please take a moment to go HERE and hit his Thanks button to show your appreciation! Without him, this rom, And MODEM, would be nonexistent in these forums!!!
:good: :highfive:
~~~
Although the previous leak proved to be amazingly stable, and this one appears to be no different, please remember this is after all, still a leaked test build of the 4.3 Touchwiz system! There may be new bugs, new features, better or worse performance, etc, etc.
I do have reason to believe this may in fact become our official build, or if it does not, it is very close to it! I will try to explain more on this and what I expect to see a bit later. But I have been running this build for most of the day, and am seeing similar results as before where battery and stability are concerned!
So with no further ado, here is your latest leaked build of 4.3 Touchwiz! Note, these are complete T-Mobile builds, but I have had to continue using the AT&T insecure kernel due to issues pulling/dumping the one that goes with this build. As before, I have seen absolutely no problems arise from this.
T999_4.3_MJC_PureStock
Dev-Host Mirror
This is 100% the full MJC build (except kernel). I have not removed Knox or anything, and I have left it Odexed. Zero changes! This is more for devs or anyone who wants to dig into how Knox works and is affecting things. Or for those who just want to see what the full stock build is like. Understand that Knox and seLinux do interfere with root. So if you have problems with your root apps, I suggest you try the deodexed, Knox Free, build below. (I will provide a separate secure kernel later for flashing for those who want to set seLinux to enforcing.)
T999_4.3_UVUEMJC_Full_deodexed_KnoxFree
Dev-Host Mirror
This ROM has NOT been debloated. Only Knox, CIQ, and SysScope have been removed. Deodexed, full build.
Installation
If you are currently on a Non-Touchwiz Rom, you will have to Factory Reset
Because this is a Leaked build, I suggest starting clean. Preferably with already up to date MD5 firmware.
If you are not, Please Odin flash the MD5 root66 firmware. (Link to thread in my signature).
Download your choice of ROM, and the MJC (or MJ4) Modem.
Flash in CWM/TWRP Recovery exactly as you would with any other Rom or Modem!
Thats it! Nothing special!
Huge Thanks to @Prod1702 for leaking this build, and for all of his work and effort working with me to get what we need off of the phone!
Thanks is also highly deserved by these guys as well!
@TheLastSidekick, for his friendship, advice and becoming our newest RC!
@saranhai, for being such a cool guy to team up with on this stuff, and for all of his fantastic work and advice!
@loserskater and everyone responsible for the AT&T leaks for beating me to the release of a leak! Because without them ours is not possible!
@stratatak7 for his work on the AT&T kernel, without which we would have NO T-Mobile leaked roms!
@upndwn4par also for his work on the AT&T kernel, without which we would have NO T-Mobile leaked roms!
And a big Thanks to all of the members who have taken the time to try out this and all of Team Inferno's roms and report on your results!!!
CHANGELOG
This is a copy/paste of the changelog as listed at SamMobile.com for the I9300 update. Most likely, we will see the same features and improvements, but this is by no means guaranteed. Also, and once again, I remind you that what we have are LEAKED test builds. They may not be complete, so if something is not in the leak, it does not mean it will or will not be in the official release!
- GALAXY GEAR Support
- TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
- ANT+ Support
- Core UI elements updated to the ones on the Galaxy S4 (Galaxy S4′s theme all over)
- New Samsung Keyboard
- GPU drivers have been updated (Higher GPU benchmark scores)
- New Lockscreen: Multiple Widgets, improved ripple effect than Android 4.1.2, ability to change clock size and set a personal message
- New Screen modes (From S4): Adapt Display and Professional Photo
- Daydream
- Driving mode
- Actionable notifications
- Move-to-SD-card feature
- New Camera mode : Sound and Shot
- New Additions in Notification Centre
- Completely revamped Settings UI (Tabbed interface – Exactly like the Galaxy S4)
- Implementation of Voice controls (Let’s you control various parts of the phone using voice commands – Galaxy S4 feature)
- New Samsung Apps: Calculator, Clock, Contacts, Gallery, Music
- Full screen Samsung apps
- New S-Voice (from Galaxy S4)
Known Bugs/Issues
Virtually nothing unexpected! You tell me what you find!
We have had only a few reports of the following:
Problems with dropped calls
Reboots/bootloops
Losing Root
Note: It appears that ALL 4.3 releases have now been delayed due to many problems with the I9300 rollout. Just about everything reported that led to this on the I9300 has not been observed with ours. Hopefully they won't delay ours much longer since it appears it is a very stable build for our models! No one has got the update as scheduled, so I don't expect us to either.
This leak is primarily for the T999 ONLY. You can flash to a T999L/N/V, but will have no mobile data connection.
Most who are not on a T-Mobile network have reported issues with the SIM card not being detected. (Needs Re-Verification)
You MUST flash the UVUEMJ4 Modem/Baseband. No others will work at this time. (Needs Re-Verification)
I suspect that some of the more random issues may be due to older firmware.
I recommend flashing the UVDMD5 firmware if you haven't already done so. Update via Recovery. Update via Odin.
Knox may prevent some root apps from keeping persistent root privledges.
If using a secure kernel, seLinux is set to "enforcing" and side by side with Knox, will make life Hell!!!
Suffers from the profile folder problems. /0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0 Every time you flash a 4.3 build, it will create a new /0 folder abovethe current one and will use this location by default. Manually copy /data/media/ to /data/media/0 after every flash.
Remember this is a NEW leak/build. If you experience a problem you had on the last one, please report again.
Let me know if I have left anything out or if you find anything not yet mentioned.
A note about reporting bugs
If you dirty flashed (did not factory reset), or if you have applied any mods, please do not report bugs. Reflash clean and test first. If you discover a bug caused by a mod, please let us know, but flash clean so you can be sure if it is the Rom, the mod, or something else entirely.
Make sure you pay a visit to and give props to the guys at:
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I flash this to my T999L, T999N, T999V?
Well, sort of. You can flash it if you want to see what 4.3 will be like. But without a 4.3 modem for your specific device model you will not have any Mobile Data connection at all.
Can I flash the MJ4/MJC Modem to my T999L, T999N, T999V?
In short......NO!
Will the MJ4/MJC Modem work on older ROMs/Firmware? e.g. 4.1.2 based Rom with MJ4 Modem.
YES! But ONLY if you have the T999!
Why do I get a notification that root access has been blocked?
Welcome to Fort KNOX! If this is a problem you cannot live with, either remove Knox from the Odexed build, or just flash the deodexed ROM. If you are running a ROM which has seLinux enforcing (secure kernel) and Knox installed....well....have fun!? This combination is a PITA to deal with and will prevent nearly all apps attempts at root access! I do NOT recommend this configuration!!!
I just flashed X ROM and now all of the data on internal sdcard is gone! What happened to my data?!?!?
Don't Panic! It did NOT delete any data! The ROM created a new /0 (zero) folder and by default connects to this as the root of your internal sdcard. You need to copy your data from /data/media to /data/media/0/. You will find all of your files are still intact, they just were not being seen because of the messed up folder structure.
Keep in mind that my battery is over a year and a half old! But this is 19-20 hours on battery, using 5.5 hours of screen on time (a good bit was set at fairly high brightness), and as usual, using TapaTalk which isnt really the most gentle app when it comes to battery use!
Conclusions So Far
As it was with our first leaked build, the rom itself seems to be surprisingly excellent on battery! The Day 1 battery once again helps to showcase the ROM's battery use, on its own (plus Tapatalk). So if you were to flash it and make good use of Settings, you should see similar results. I find it very reassuring to see how consistent the battery cycles have been so far!
T999_4.3_MJC_Docs_deodexed3.zip
This is the ROM I was personally using before I bricked my device. It does not have any major modifications, just some, perhaps interesting debloating. I was not totally finished with it, but thought I would share in case anyone else wanted something like it. Basically, I was removing things I do not use, but that could potentially be running in the background, using resources and battery. A couple of examples of this would be Googles Backup Transport service, Contacts and Calendar sync, Accuweather, NameID, etc, etc, etc. I will try to post a full list later. I know much of this could be debated, but it seemed to be just as stable as before, and everything I made use of still worked.
Its kind of a different take on the debloating of a rom.
Note: I am not giving credit on most of these simply because many can be found all over the place! I have been collecting them myself for a while now, just for my own use, and the ones I did not discover on my own, I cannot remember where I originally saw. If this is a problem, or you feel you deserve credit for a particular discovery, please let me know and I will be happy to work it out with you. These are very easy for anyone to find on their own though. I have quite a few more that I might post at another time.
I Love This Stuff! And I am just happy that I got the opportunity to be the one of the ones to work on it!
Couple things real quick. This has so far been great for my own use, but I have not done much to stress it. Been mostly trying for a good baseline Day 1 battery report like I did for the first leak. So far it seems to be right on par with it.
I will get to updating posts 2-5 with more information later on. I will check back periodically to make sure nothing catastrophic happens, but aside from that I'm planning to spend some time with my daughter before bedtime since I get to have her an extra day for the holiday weekend! Once she's asleep Ill get back to work on the fun stuff!
Hope you guys enjoy it! And I hope you don't mind me keeping the leaks in separate threads. I felt it best for different builds since there will likely be different bugs and all. Just less confusing IMO. Ill note each OP of the existence of the other to make it easy to reference.
For now, have fun guys! And Thank You all for your patience!!! :good:
Thanks Doc. For all your time bringing all the new leaks. Will try this one as soon as its download.
Awesome work doc! Downloading it now to get it loaded up. MJ4 has been giving me steady battery life off charger for 11 he's and 1 hour screen on still at 80% so pretty happy about that.
Dirty flashed this over the previous leak. So far everything works great.
Nice work Doc!!
Thanks to you all for your kind words! I hope this one turns out as good as the last at a minimum, though I am cautiously tempted to say I think but is a bit better. Can't quite put my finger on it, and it may be placebo, but it does feel a bit better to me.
And for those interested, I believe the keyboard is fixed. Been trying for a while now to get it to bug out, but it hasn't yet. Bout to switch though. I just don't care much for it personally.
[Q] Upgrading stock rooted 4.3 to 4.4
My S3 is totally stock 4.3 but rooted. Lately I'm having two problems that are bugging the hell out of me. 1) BTLE is really erratic. I track my workouts using a BTLE heart rate monitor and it is constantly dropping out. It's not the app I'm using because I have the same problem with three different workout apps. 2) Sometimes text messages are super laggy and frequently are sent/received in multiples.
I'm hoping that upgrading to 4.4 will solve these problem. Or, if there are other things I can do to fix these issues, I'm open to trying them.
I've had the OTA "system update downloaded" notification for months and I've just ignored it. I know that in the past if you were rooted you couldn't just install the OTA update in the usual way. So I'm wondering if I can accept the OTA update or if I have to go through some other process to install stock 4.4. If so, what would that be?
Also, are there any major known issues with 4.4 that I should be aware of?
TIA for any help. I've searched but couldn't find any directly helpful threads. I feel like this was probably a hot topic back when Kit Kat first came out but that was a long time ago so the threads are buried.
No, DO NOT TAKE THE OTA. It won't work anyways and there have been a few reports of bricks. You have to use ODIN. In my opinion 4.4 is WAY better than the mess that 4.3 was.
OK, so I just need a stock 4.4 file and I can ODIN? Can someone please point me to where I can download it? I prefer to stay fully stock because in my experience every modded and/or custom ROM breaks some function. As long as I'm rooted I can do what I need to do.
Will I lose my apps/data by flashing 4.4 or will I end up with a clean install? And will I still be rooted?
Thank you.
Yes
Well maybe you haven't tried the right ROMs yet.
Yes you will lose all data and apps and it will wipe your internal SD
No, you won't be rooted anymore.
Thanks for the info and the link.
Two last questions. Any bootloader/Knox related issues that make rooting 4.4 problematic? And if I back up with Titanium, can I restore into 4.4? I know that Kit Kat radically changes the way data is stored so I wonder if restoring from 4.3 to 4.4 breaks things. I actually have a 32GB S3 and don't use a memory card so everything is stored internally but I still wonder if there would be issues.
I don't know about not trying the "right ROM" yet. I don't think I've ever seen a custom/modded ROM that didn't have a list of things that either didn't work, or didn't work right, or some kind of caveat. It's the camera, or it's bluetooth, or it's visual voicemail or it's always something that doesn't work quite right. If there is a custom ROM out there that doesn't break ANY feature I'd be open to trying it. But I bet it has a thread full of people who are trying to work around a number of issues. If you know of a bulletproof rom for this phone I'll check it out, I would be happy to be proven wrong.
I really need some help here.
I have I337 GS4 on T-Mobile. I have had tried numerous T-Mobile TW based ROMs from 4.2 upto 4.4.2 and they have worked fine.
Now I have connections issues on 4.4.4 such as this one. I really want my phone to run this ROM but signal is completely lost after reboot and can't establish any connection with T-Mobile at all. I thought it was the T-Mobile 4.4.4 ROM issue so I tried MD v1.1 universal FNJ4 but it was giving me same no connection problem( tried both AT&T and T-Mobile on installation prompt but same lost connection issues).
It just works fine on KANGAPOP 5.0, 4.4 as well as SKYFALL. Connections are secure and smooth and stable on these ROMs right out of the box.
Does anyone know how I can fix the lost signal and have this ROM run on my i337? I have actually waited 14 months hoping iB4 would release T-Mobile based version that has WiFi calling yet I can not run this beautiful ROM on my phone yet due to this problem.
IR Blaster?
First off....Great Rom! I'm a addicted flasher and came back from Lollipop to this one.
Only problem I have is the IR Blaster seems to be not working.
I tried a bunch off apps but no go.....Can anyone tell me if theirs is working and with what app? Thanks!
Media_rw folder access in Titanium Backup?
Does anyone here use Titanium backup?
Is it all 4.4.4 ROMs, or just this one, where Titanium can no longer read the media_rw folder? It worked before on my last 4.4.2 ROM.
Looking at the media_rw folder access properties, it looks like it is properly set to r/w.
Using folders within this is the only way to get Titanium to 'protect' backups. It doesn't work if you point it to external SD storage any other way.
My phone isn't asking for a password on reboot or cold boot.
Settings: Screen lock with pin, lock after 10 minutes, power key instantly locks.
Thanks for the reply. Great info for those who have post-MDL bootloaders. I got a beta-patch from op and the problems gone now with 4.4 modem and MDL bootloader. Only problem that I encountered was with Softcard app or a NFC wallet for T-mobile. this app worked fine on cutom roms based on 4.4.2 or prior versions but I think its the modem related as the softcard worked fine on pre 4.4.4 T-mobile ROMs while on MDL modem. More testing needs to be done I guess.
I'm having an issue where my sdcard get unmount by itself. Try a few kernels but still the same. Anyone else having save issue?
Also, I am using Hispasian kernel 3.4.1.1
Any ideas for a fix?
Help with Rooting my SGS4 SGH-M919 UVUFNK2
Hi all,
yes I'm a nooby, and would like to root my T-Mobile phone to be able to customize it and use more favorable apps.
I have downloaded the MD 1.3 ROM, Odin, S4 drivers, Kies and I'm trying to follow the guide as much as possible
but it says to boot into custom recovery. Doesn't the phone need to be rooted first before I can Flash TWRP or CWM?
Sorry if I sound totally confused here..
If someone could please assist, I would be appreciative.
Thanks,
Michael
modem 2Xs flash
Just wanted to post this to help anyone out. If its been posted feel free to delete. Both times when I oden-ed nb4 to nh7 and then again from nh7 to nk2 it took two oden flashes to get modem to update with fw. Awesome ROM Dev!!!
This is how I do it. First I copy supersu. Zip to my phone. Then I flash twrp using oden with auto reboot not checked. When its done I pull the cord then pull the battery. Then manually go to recovery. Install SuperSU. Then reboot to system and start SU and it tries to kill Knox and update binary (normal). At this point you have a rooted phone with stock fw and a custom recovery ready for a costom ROM. But I think this Dev says in one of the latest posts you can just install twrp and install ROM and it will root.
Samsung S4 Mini LTE i9195 - Stock ROM with Stagefright Security Fix
Just upgraded to the latest Stock ROM for Europe I9195XXUCOH2:
samsung-firmware.org/model/GT-I9195/
samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9195
sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9195
When running Stagefright Detector it only shows the following red vulnerability:
CVE 2015 6602 - Requires clicking a web-link, that opens video in the web-browser.
P.S. Had to flash twice as the baseband didn't upgrade the first time, and caused WIFI not to work (Would not turn on).
P.P.S. Used the O2-UK ROM and it changes the bootup-screen and also replaces the Google App Store with its own. Had to manually install Google App Store.
Gives me hope that there will be a fix later for stage fright v2. Though this release was 1 and half months after it was compiled so.... Also the fact O2 has released this but Samsung has yet to release the updated unbranded software is a bit of bull. Phone manufacturers and Google need to get their ass in gear..
Just updated to I9195XXUCOI5 (Spanish), and now Stagefright Detector shows all tests as green.
Also the bootup-screen is back to normal, along with the Google App Store.
Did you (have to) factory reset after flashing?
I flashed on top of my existing 4.4.2. Stock ROM, and just had to re-root.
But I guess it would be a good idea to make a backup of text-messages and other stuff.
Hi. My phone was rooted and when i checked it through stagefright except two all were red. And after i saw your comment., i flashed my phone but with original stock rom. and did reset and everything. Still same options are red.
Guess I have a special phone, or maybe something went wrong when flashing. Just re-verified that I have the latest version of stagefright detector from Google App Store, and all tests are green.
Going to try this tonight when I get home. Currently running the UK O2 firmware, but all but one of the patches shows green. Fingers crossed this new Spanish ROM will be green across the board.
This has really p!&&ed me off! Android phone manufacturers are sooo slow to update their devices. I can understand that some updates like new looks are over looked for older devices, but when it comes to security THEY have a duty to keep their products secure! There needs to be a new system for security updates. This stage fright bug is HUGE in my opinion. Phone manufacturers really don't give a sh!t about their customers, its all about the money. I never had these worries on my Nokia 3310...
I'm so concerned that I'm seriously thinking about getting an iPhone, much better software ecosystem. I just hate IOS compared. It's that or be forced to buy an expensive galaxy S6 or maybe a Moto G 2015 which I've heard has software updates comparable to the Google Nexus phones, which I personally think are a bag of crap...
Samsung being such a BIG concern in the smart phone world are just crap for software support.
I know there are custom ROMs that offer regular updates and the latest patches, but for me NONE of these are stable on my 5 month old device to the point where they can't be run as daily drivers... That and you lose any warranty you had, which is 2 years for Samsung....
Now I'm stuck with laggy stock OS, and I'm regretting getting this phone on contract.
If people were more aware of how insecure there phones really are I think they might not so easily choose android or at least the hundred odd older devices still available for purchase.
I'm so angry its funny... I'm one click away from dumping Samsung for the foreseeable future...
I also have 4.4.2 stock.
I am concerned of the difference between CSCs, that there might be strange behavior. So you flashed, didn't reset and everything's fine, no force closes & stuff?
I did format the cache-partition and also cleared the dalvik-cache.
Thanks for this info, did not see that before.
From the information at Samsung Firmwares Database, the last Spanish ROM is not for LTE? or ist it also fine for LTR?
I have a S4 Mini LTE and the spanish ROM works fine with mine, and gives me 4G connectivity.
I am hoping for further firmware updates. Everything is red for me except two, as mentioned by someone else. I updated to the latest firmware from May on Three. I thought it was confirmed we were going to get version 5 of Android on the S4 mini... still waiting. I had 4.4.2 before from my last update and then this new update is ALSO 4.4.2...... What got updated? Just patches on things or something? No upgrade of the OS?
Very certain that S4 Mini will not get Android ver. 5.
This is my device status:
- Android Version: 4.4.2
- Kernel Version: 3.4.0-5878679 (23 Sep 2015)
- Build Number: KOT49H.I9195XXUCOI5
Think it is only security fixes, and system-app updates.
No Stagefright with the Spanish Stock ROM anymore
WIth the Spanish ROM no Stagefright Security problem as of today anymore. :good::good::good:
(My only problem is now, that the phone is getting quite slow, maybe some app . . . )
Have now updated to the latest I9195XXUCOJ1 (TIM), and it feels a lot faster.
Sadly enough the preloaded TIM-applications fills up the entires System-partition, so if wanting to install other apps, then one have to cleanup a little first.
For some unknown reason the Xposed Framework Installer will not install, and gives the following warning:
Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK version 19 or your processor architecture (armeabi-v7a)
WARNING: Linker: /data/datade.robv.androi.xposed.installer/cache/app_process has text relocations.
EDIT: OK I tired this stock rom with xposed and like yourself it doesn't want to install the framework.. The patch from Lombartz thread doesn't work with stock roms. It's got to do with sine new security patch. I'm thinking maybe an older version of the 2 files affected might work. Going to try later. That or ask Lombartz what he did to get it working.
Maybe try the fix for xposed from Lombartz in his cm11 rom and kernel thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...ht v2)(ECOACTIVE & ECOPLUG)(OC/UV)(20151116) Might work on stock rom too.
I have installed the latest Stock-ROM I9195XXUCPA1, and it works good.
I have tested with AndroidVTS v.13 and it shows that CVE-2015-6616 remains red (All other tests are green).
