First off, does apps like Instagram use the camera app?
After updating to 4.3.1 (didn't do a wipe) I've had som issues with the camera, the rear camera does not work at all.

I got it too.
in the update file a some changes at:
keymaster / keystore
camera firmware
framework
services and telephony-common
what exactly has changed I do not know.
root + recovery need to be flashed again. but no problems.

That means I need a new camera app, right? The front facing camera works.
So the camera worked before with the same app? I would download some other ones to test it out. I also recommend a WIPE after doing the update.
Hello,
i have installed OpenSEMC KitKat 4.4.2 (CM11) by Rayman FX to my Xperia S and a very usefull to me app, CamScanner doesnt work. It boots and after you take a photo, screen goes black and app crashes. This app worked on stock and many 4.2.2 custom ROMs(RaymanFXs included) i have tried. I rebooted, reinstalled app, rebooted again etc but the problem remains...
Thank you in advance!

Something like this happened with my phone too. QR Code scanning app didn't work. I guess that's a bug. You have to report it to RaymanFX. He would be able to help. Waiting for other replies. See if we get any leads.
Solution!
New version works properly! Although, previous version referred that KitKat was supported...

for older versions there was a solution in editing build.prop thats been mentioned in dev section. this method was to get all 3rd party apps that use camera to work.
Hi guys and gals,
I've never tried to use photospheres or panorama mode on my phone before and decided to give it a whirl yesterday. It didn't work. It was just a gray screen with dots/rectangle telling me to move the circle into the bigger circle. I can move the circle and "gray dot world" around but that's it. My current rom is CM11 official nightlies (I update it every day or two). I've tried reflashing gapps (with the .forcegallery file in place), removing gapps, using the 4.4.4 micro module gapp, the aroma installer for photosphere fix, some other xda thread's JB photosphere zip, reflashing to stock, reflashing to other ROMs, downloading google camera from the play store, and doing all of the previous gapp stuff on all of those ROMs. I'm completely at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas? Photosphere and panorama are the only things wrong with the stock camera and everything else is fine. It isn't a big deal but would be nice to get it working!

Find and install the latest "Banks" GAPPS package. When you DL google cam from the market it doesn't install as system and I think that's the problem.
Ok, just did a search and realized that Banks has stopped making GApps packages but explains a bit in the thread why and gives a pointer. He also says that the zips will be available still for awhile.

When I used his packages I always had photosphere working.

Thanks but unfortunately that hasn't been working. I've been using the 8-11 standard release (and also the gallery/old camera micromodule when that inevitably fails to fix it).

You have tried Banks GApps and not PA GApps? Or both?
It very well could be a kernel issue. I am not sure because it has been awhile since I tried CM, but have you tried a different kernel?
Solid kernel or f93 kernel should work with gproj CM11 (that's the official sources used).
It should work on any GEE rom as well but the camera quality is a kind of poor although there is a fix in progress for that.
I would suggest a clean flash, Banks GApps that include the Google camera (standard) and nothing extra as far as camera/gallery and then see what happens.

Tried both unfortunately. Thank you for the kernel idea, I hadn't thought of that. I think I will keep an eye out and wait for them to fix the camera quality first because right now my camera is perfect other than the gimicky photosphere thing I wanted to try. I'll try and remember to update this thread to provide a fix when I find it.
Hello, just wanted to share this package, it contains CameraNext with all the features working (i added libraries too, so everything should work except features with hardware limitations).
You can find all the camera informations/features here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/looking-camera-features-cyanogen-os
I made a package that contains a backup script, so it won't be deleted when you update your CyanogenMod ROM, i didn't test it on other ROMs because i only use CM12.1, so if you want to try it on a different AOSP ROM i can't give you any support.
This package won't replace your stock Camera app/libraries, that will still work as usual.
DOWNLOAD:
CameraNext
I can't revert nor add any change because the app is prebuilt and closed-source
Tested and working on:
- CM12.1
- SlimLP(5.1.1)
- ...
CHANGELOG:
11/10/2015
- Removed GalleryNext (you can find it in the C-Apps package https://cyngn.com/c-apps)
- Updated CameraNext to 2.0.005 from latest YU Yureka plus factory image
-- Removed HFR entry (slow motion)
-- Removed focus mode entry (automatic or continuous), it's now continuous by default
- Moved the package from /priv-app to /app
- Moved libraries from /lib to /CameraNext/lib/arm
I had to keep 2.0.004 libraries (from OPO) because YU Yureka plus uses 64 bit libraries and they're not working on 32 bit systems
HOW TO REMOVE THE CYANOGEN CAMERA?
The easiest way is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64641032&postcount=28
slow motion doesn't work mention that in OP
edit: HFR (slow motion) entry removed with 2.0.005 update
I've installed this camera app and... woow... it is really what i was looking for!!!! Thank you guy!!! Now I have everything: panorama working (feature missing in standard CM 12 camera app, in google camera and non working in many other apps I tried!), HDR, continous shots (even this missing in standard cm camera), good camera quality (better than stock motorola app!)... and maybe, in future, we'll have slowmo working!!!! WOOOOOW
It works with stock rom?

Yeah I figured it out. It seems like the Cyanogenmod Recovery didnt like it. switched to TWRP and it flashed fine.

Nice work. Working great on motoG 2nd gen.
Hey guys!
I'm learning Android app development and decided to put the skills I learnt to some use, so here it is-
This app is for people like me who prefer the higher exposure time of the Stock HAL in low light (brighter and less noisy photos), but at the same time want to use all the features of Sultan's HAL like 4K video, etc.
It can also be used if you want to compare the two HALs or decide to revert to Stock in the future (no need to dirty flash your ROM now!).
Features:
Switch between Stock and Sultan's HAL on the fly (no reboot required!)
Backup and restore Stock HAL files (no need of a revert zip now)
Launch your default Camera from within the app
Should work on all ROMs 5.1.1 and above (EDIT: It doesn't seem to be working on OOS. Will try to fix it in the near future).
Will even work when Sultan updates his HAL
WARNING: This app is designed to run only on a rooted OPX running Android 5.1.1 and above. It might break your camera if used on any other phone!
Installation Instructions:
Install the APK file
Dirty flash your current ROM (only if you have already flashed Sultan's HAL)
Press the Backup button in the app (Status should say "Not Installed" at this time)
Flash Sultan's HAL zip from recovery
Usage:
If you're performing a clean ROM install in the future, be sure to hit the backup button within the app before flashing Sultan's HAL.
If Sultan releases an update to his HAL, be sure to switch to his HAL from within the app before flashing the updated zip.
If for whatever reason you encounter any issues, dirty flash your ROM and follow the Installation instructions again. This should fix them.
Credits:
@Sultanxda for his awesome HAL!
Note: Neither Stock HAL files nor Sultan's HAL files are included in this app
Any bug fixes, feature requests and reviews are always welcome (I'll be working on it only when I have free time).
Finally, it goes without saying- I'm not responsible for any damage whatsoever caused to your device by using this app!

No, this wont work if you're using Sultan's ROM as it comes with the custom HAL pre installed. You would have to manually copy the Stock HAL files from CM13 for it to work.

Does this only happen when switching to Stock HAL? It works fine for me.
Which ROM are you using?
Try dirty flashing it and following the instructions once again.

It creates a copy with the extension of .stock in the same directory where it is originally located.

It only works with Sultan HAL and when switching to stock HAL, camera stops working. I am on CM13 Official latest nightly with bluspark kernel, xposed and supersu 2.65. First time I've tried it I had OOS 3.0.1 camera installed from the other thread. Then I dirty flashed without installing that camera and tried your app with the stock google camera from opengapps, still no luck. I really, really want this working on my phone

Send me a screen record of the entire process. I maybe able to figure out whats going wrong.

This is great in theory and i've waited for something like this to hopefully be made in which I am very greatful for. However, I'm on rooted OOS 2.2.0 with Blue spark and the same issue occurs for me - It says action performed successfully when applying the Stock HAL, but when launching the camera app it says "Unknwon error".
I have tried clearing cache and data for the stock camera app, but no luck.

Same problem as him - "Unknown Error" in OOS camera and "Can't connect to the camera" in google camera. Tried cleaning cache aswell, even tried with cleaning davlik/cache after installing sultan HAL.
For some reason my screen recorder cuts the videos before I can't record everything, so I can't provide a video. I can extract logs or something if you need them?

Maybe a direct option to clear "camera App" data (not onlycache) could help.
I'm trying the MOD right now.
Edit : same problem for me.
I had to wipe camera app data, , launch it from drawer and then it worked.
Without that, camera app couldn't be launched from Hal Switcher.

I just tried this, still doesn't work for me unfortunately.
It doesn't matter what app it is so therefore I presume it's not just the stock camera app it's to do with something technical that can hopefully be fixed with a bit of tweaking.
