Had to return the first one as the battery dropped so quickly I could see it - dropped by about 5% at a time every 2 minutes or so...
The one I've got now has been working fine (for the last 2 weeks) until today.
Turned the screen off at about 65% battery. Turned it on about 3 hours later and it had dropped to 43% without the screen being used. Mediaserver and Google Services had been using most of it apparently.
Rebooted it. It then went from 43% to 36% to 26% to 22% to 15% to 9% to 2% in about 5 minutes.
How can Samsung release something so useless?? Is it the software??
Wow that's f-ed up sorry about your luck.

Hi. No, not rooted.
The battery stayed at 2% for ages. I then turned it off and on again, and the battery showed as 36% again. It then dropped straight to 23% which is where it is now.
Seems all over the place...

Not with this one, but I did with the previous one, several times.
It's not acceptable to me to have to wipe my tablet routinely to get it to work properly...
How long has it been since you did the reset?
Thanks
Have you factory reset and not installed any programs to monitor usage?
Perhaps something your installing is doing it. Are you using a microsd card?
I just starting charging my tablet after 1 day and 17 hours with 9 hours and 30 minutes of screen on time.
And I still had 18% battery left. I'm not saying it to brag just that battery life is fine on this tablet.
Until then please search Google for mediaserver battery drain. This is not running on my tablet btw.
Media server can happen if you have some corrupt media file the tablet is trying to read and identify over and over again

Threads like this are always interesting. If every owner on this forum's N10.1-14 performed like OP's don't you'd think it would be on the front page? So OP's issue is something unique. It could be:
A manufacturing issue that affected a batch of N10.1-14's. If OP's exchanging at the same place all their devices could be from the same batch.
Samsung uses different s/w in different regions and perhaps there's a battery draining s/w issue in the particular ROM OP's using. But unless OP's from Antartica you'd think others from his region would be reporting the same issue.
OP's loaded something on his device that's either incompatible with 4.3 or Exynos 5420. A lot of older legacy apps still run on newer Android devices but don't run well and create issues. If OP's using restore his old apps are being installed as soon as he signs in to his Google and/or Samsung account.
Of the three I'm guessng number 3 is the most likely. I have a SM-601 with 130 apps installed, a dozen syncs running, and two Exchange push account always downloading. Used exactly the way I used my N-8000 I'm getting about 10% less battery life. That seems about right to me considering the PPI is doubled, the SoC is more powerful, and I'm using also Samsung's motion, voice, and air sensors which didn't exist on the N-8000.
OP, try setting up the tablet without signing in to either your Google or Samsung account. That'll make sure no apps are installed without your knowledge. See if the battery drain is still there. If it's not, your issue is s/w and not the s/w pre-installed by Samsung. Good luck.
Thanks for the replies.
It seems there are 2 separate issues.
1. The mediaserver battery drain (I do have a micro sd card, but haven't recently added loads of new files or anything). The tablet has run fine for 2 weeks without this issue, and I haven't recently installed any new apps.
2. The fact that the tablet doesn't know how much charge it has - goes from 2% back up to 36% without being charged etc.
I'm not sure what to do. I noticed that google play music was running in task manager so ive disabled that, and have fully run down and am fully recharging the battery. When in plugged the charger in symbol went from showing battery empty to about 20% charged instantly which doesn't bode well...
If I still have an issue i guess I will exchange it a 2nd time for a 3rd unit...
Thanks for the help

Before this issue today I was happy with the battery life. My problem is not a general battery life issue - something is obviously seriously wrong with my unit...

I reset it once, a few weeks ago and its been solid with power usage since.
Perhaps it is being effective by the new Google Play Services, which appears to have a battery draining issue. This started in the last week, I believe.
The battery drain just happen recently, isn't it? I've just bought my Note for 4 days, on the first and second day, the battery is awesome, but from the third day it run down from 45% to 5% in minutes.... I think that related to some update service and happen to massive device recently!

Well, it is a possibility. My first gen Note 10.1 wifi does not seem effected by it. It is on 4.1.2. I also do not think this effects all devices. Wondering if it is a 4.2.2 and up issue or something along those lines. I only suggest it a possibility to check into.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378962
in here state that the problem could come from the new update of Google Play Store. I did remember that it is updated before the problem appeared (but not so sure). Just remove the update of Play store and see the result. Will report back
Just to update you all in case other people are having the same issue - I disabled google play music, ran thrbattery right down so the tablet switched off, charged back up to 100% and then used it normally. Battery seems much better. Although it did drain really quickly from about 35% to about 5%, but over an hour or so, not in minutes like before.
Weird apps have stopped using all the battery - its now used by about 90% screen, 5% android os etc which seems normal.
Still, there is always the worry that ill get it of its case one day when I nred need to use it and the battery will be flat!
P600 wifi getting 14 hour battery life here. Been using it all day and played some games too. Im happy with the battery life.
If people get together and help make knox proof root, I might be interested in making a rom with all my battery saving goodness in. Or work with some people to make a nice clean, lean rom. Who knows.

Dear all,
Recently my Note is facing a weird problem. While my son is playing a game, the battery drops 20-30% in 10 minutes. If I shut down the tablet and re-power then the battery goes to normal again.
In the battery stats I can see a huge drop during game usage and then up again on reboot.
I performed a factory reset but the same happens....
I flashed the Kit Kat via Odin.... but the same
Any ideas?
Drain the battery down to below 5% then charge it to 100 and it should be fine. It happened to me once and after a full charge after a full drain it never did it again

This is what worries me.
I drained the battery and charged it fully powered off. It did it again. I drained the battery and charged it fully powered on. It did it again.
If I'm using it for browsing, papyrus, images etc its fine. This happens only in games and when i reboot the battery percentage is ok again.
strange....

I had the exact same problem as you are describing but additionally, my overall battery life wasn't lasting as long as it should either. I ended up sending it to Samsung's repair center to get fixed. I'm not sure what they did but some other people on the forums suggested it was a motherboard issue.
So the capacity of the battery seemed just fine but the readings were crazy (dropping from 50 to 5 in minutes and then on reboot back on 50).
After 2-3 full cycles of charging nothing changed. Flashed fw nothing changed. Went to Samsung service and they just informed me that they changed the battery and now performing final checks.
Hope this will solve the issue. I'm too lucky that I am in the "6 months warranty" window for battery...
How does one go about sending it into Samsung? After getting it back, did you see a significant change?
I've been debating doing this but wasn't sure how to go about it.
I haven't got it back yet. They just called me and they said that apart from the battery, they need to change another part (the telephone operator didn't know which part) and I'm going to receive it tomorrow.
So I'll let you know once I receive it.

After trying everything (flashing different roms via odin, factory reset, full battery cycles etc) the problem never went away.
Went to Samsung service. They checked the battery and had to replace it.... within the warranty.
Same issue here. Just got an email saying its fixed. They changed the charging port and lcd. Weird that they replaced the lcd.
Well I got it back. Seems they broke the s pen function when taking it out or putting in. The tablet thinks it's always out of its slot. I guess another 2 weeks without this thing. What a pain in the ass. Times like this makes me wish I bought an ipad where I could just walk into the store and get it fixed that day.
I had the same problem. I sent it back on Monday and got it back 7 days later. They did not say what they changed, but now everything is working fine. I even got a new usb cable and a magnetic Germany flag
I sent mine in for an overheating problem and they changed the charging port and gave me a new cable. I initially also had the random drops in battery but seems to be better now.. They said bad voltage going to charging the battery or something. Still have overheating so gotta send it in again?

So guys did you get it fixed? I have exactly the same problem. I have sent it to fix at the sam service - they changed the charging port, but it didn't help anything. 1,5 years of normal usage and now I can pretty much throw it into the toilet. God damn POS!
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 battery drops
Hello all,
Just wanted to inform you all that I have been experiencing these battery drops (yesterday from 93% to a mere 5% in a matter of minutes) for a very long time now. I am running under the latest 4.4.2 stock firmware.
Also, battery life is way below par (understatement !), where the Note sometimes drops to around or below 5% (the magic number below which the screen starts to dim pretty dramatically and there's no way to influence that)
Funny thing is that after the battery drops to below 5% or even 1 or 2%, it's still possible to use the tablet for quite a number of hours afterwards, which suggests it may be something with the logic estimating/determining the remaining battery capacity, rather than the battery itself....)
Now I've tried draining the battery and fully recharging it multiple times/ resetting the stats using free apps / revert to factory settings etc.
All to no avail unfortunately, this problem simply keeps coming back.
(By the way: Apart from the battery and battery life, the Note is an excellent device, and delivers as promised.
Please also note that charging it through the microUSB cable is also simple, stable and relatively fast, unless you compare it of course to my all new Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which has a superior fast charge mode and offers the highest possible battery-life at this moment and easily beats any other smartphone (including the usual suspects from that Cupertino-based firm of which I can't force my mind to remember the name of.....) in this price-quality and performance category )
As for warranty:
Battery is no longer under warranty, the device itself is.
As such, I will now get the battery replaced by a new Samsung OEM-battery first, and see if that resolves the issue.
If it doesn't help, I will send it in for repair for Samsung.
I will keep you all informed on the resolution and cause.
Likewise, if there's anyone that has gotten to the root cause of this issue, please let me / let us know
Some users reported some 'magic part' OTHER than the battery itself (motherboard / charging circuit or even the lcd ??) having been replaced by Samsung after sending it in for repair.
That information could be very valuable to us all in trying to get Samsung to resolve the issue, so I would really appreciate it if someone would share this info in this thread.
Hey I know that there hasn't been much activity on this particular thread, but i too have been experiencing this problem for over a year now. I sent it into samsung twice and it still never fixed the issue and by the time i was going to send it in the 3rd time it was out of warranty. I personally removed the back cover and unplugged the battery for a while and that did not help. I have tried flashing different ROMS and kernels to no avail until last week. I flashed Temasek's Unofficial Build found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/lt03wifi-temaseks-unofficial-build-t2980604 and after 3 full power cycles i have not had a single random drop yet i even managed to go 3 days with 6 hours of screen on time which is a record for me with this device. Not sure if it will help everyone but this seems to have solved my problem and i am thrilled! Also (as embarrassing as it is) i played 2.5 hours of Clash of Clans straight without a single random drop either.
I am beginning to have the issue as well on my P605v. Has there been any progress with your battery replacement? @mroset

Hello KwestJones,
I've successfully replaced the battery in the Note 10.1 2014, and it has improved things. With a little care, this is easy to do. Just removing the battery connector is a bit typical, you need to lift it carefully and slightly to remove it.
The result is not as drastic of an improvement as I would like to have seen, but at least the sudden drops in battery capacity percentage seem to be under control now.
I am doing a video test now, and will see how it behaves and let you know.
BR,
Maarten
Very curious to hear if replacing the battery corrected this issue. I've been experiencing this same battery drop issue for 2 or 3 months and the unit is well outside of warranty. Hoping there's a simpler fix, but willing to replace the battery if that will work since the tablet itself is still a great unit.
Complete factory reset should clear the Android Coulometer's data base or learning algorithm. Just clearing options of Battery Monitor Widget for rooted devices won't help. There are some other apps, which seem to help if the charge level never reaches 100%, a related, but not identical problem.
I have an old tablet suffering from this, with a tweaked custom rom, and i didn't want to clear and setup that completely. The algorithm or database is "learning" again, and the capacity jumps have become fewer and smaller over the last months. It should depend on how long the device was used and never reset before the incident. In my case over a year.
Itvs much like my cars fuel calculator, which won't work correctly during traffic light stops. Right after starting the engine, fuel consumption can raise several liters/h, when the car don't drive, as it uses the last sampled value(every 30 meters). And you need several kilometers to drive to have these levels drop to realistic ones again. While after a long driving distance, a traffic light stop will hardly have an influence.
So, my battery is wack... and I think it's only been acting like this since I went to a KK ROM? Maybe? Feels like it...
I've had this tablet since it was released last fall, and this behavior is very recent.
Anyways, it dies FAST. Like nose dives in a matter of 5-15 minutes. What's even weirder, is that sometimes, if I power cycle the device, it'll jump up by 30-60%. But then just dies again in another 5-15 minutes.
And there's a screenshot after I just power-cycled.
It jumped from 11% to 71%!!
Crazy!
I've also tried letting it get to 5% then charging it to 100%, done that twice. No luck. I don't know if this is related, but if I power it completely off, and plug it in, it turns on... kinda weird. My Note 3 doesn't do that, it just stays off and shows the battery charge indicator.

Hi, I have similar problem and I am with 4.3 android. I have battery loss when I play games. It drops to 2-3% really fast and after reboot it goes up to 35-40%. Once I fully depleted my battery and charge it. This time there were no battery lost. After the second charging problem persists.
If you manage to fixed it please tell us how.

I have a similar problem with my p600. the tablet is new, got it since a month or less.
at first i was amazed of the battery life i use it a lot for work writing documents and sheets on excel, battery used to perfom quite well giving me more than 5 hours of screen on, but recently the battery starts to drop very fast, now i can barely get around 2 hours of screen on.
i've already done 2 cycles of full discharge and then charge it completely with the tablet turned off. but the problem stills.
also sometimes when i reboot the tablet the battery goes from i.e 20% to 40% after the reboot.
im still looking for a fix or solution, today i found a new official firmware for my model (4.4 firmware for telcel mexico). going to wait until the tablet is fully charged and then flash the new firmware. I dont know if its going to help but i got nothing to lose.
by the way, sending it to semsung is not an option because of knox 0x1

Sorry to bump this, has anyone found a solution yet.
I've replaced the battery 3 times in about 9 months, but had this issue about a yr, was sent back to Samsung who changed the battery and supposedly updated the fw 4.4.2, I have since replaced the battery another 3 times every 3 months, each time either factory resetting or flashing a new rom, currently on official Smp600 5.1.1 BTU rom, today my battery was on 47%, I plugged in charger and was watching/streaming a movie on it, about 80 minutes later the tablet shut off, which was odd it's never powered off while on charge, powered it back on and battery said 19%, my previous issues has been the same as others, it can be on 100%, play a game, or stream a movie,or watch youtube etc and it will nosedive dramatically 20/30% at a time, sometimes within 10 mins it's gone from 100% to less than 30%, it's clear there's some sort of issue if others have it, I was wondering if a thread should be made to list ppl with this issue to see how many there are and go from there.

I've been having the same issue for some time now. Calibrating the battery does help, I don't experience the problem nearly as much after calibrating it. But it'll still nosedive on occasion, maybe once a week. This is the app I use to calibrate it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
Hey All,
I'm just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading to Lollipop, my Nexus 7 battery loses FAR MORE battery while idle than when I was on KitKat. I was hoping that 5.0.1 would fix this issue, but I seem to be having the same problem. It's entirely unacceptable that I go to sleep with 31% battery, and wake up with the tablet DEAD. I have kept a close eye on Running Applications, and have made sure to close them all before leaving the tablet alone. So much for Project Volta...
Anybody else having a similar experience?
Thanks,
Collin
I'm actually seeing the opposite. On Saturday I had mine plugged in and charged to 100%. I took it off the charger and threw it in my bag, where it sat for about 7-8 hours (drove about 3-4 hours and then it was in my car for a few at a restaurant before bringing it into the hotel), wifi and bluetooth on, but disconnected the entire time. It is in a Poetic smart flip cover so screen was off the entire time.
When I got into the hotel it was still at 100%. Used it for a bit that evening, and again the next day before driving home, and finally used it some more at home, but still had over 50% left before bed.
My battery life is also suspect.

I was one of the Android L developer preview early adopters and the only thing that kept me from switching back to cyanogenmod was the fact that on the last developer preview whenever Flo said the battery was low I was so surprised I felt cheated. The battery life was so good every time it gave me low battery life notification I was shocked because I had forgotten that this thing even has a battery and needs to be charged.
I don't know if this is psychosomatic or what, but it sure doesn't feel like this on 5.0 or 5.01.
Full disclosure: it's reporting 6h 22m of screen on time with 5 hours of battery life left to go, but it sure doesn't feel that way.
The battery settings used to tell me ridiculous things like 6 days of charge left. It doesn't do that anymore.
Right now I'm in the process of discharging it all the way to death. We'll see if that makes a difference.

Hey All,
I'm just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this issue.
Thanks,
Collin

Yes I'm having this issue. After upgrading via ota my tablet is dead in less than two days from battery drain

OTA, OTA with factory reset or img flashing?
Because if you upgrade yours N7 via OTA without factory reset that (and various others) bugs are possible.
My N7 doesnt show idle battery drain (img flashed) or any other bug, so far im very satisfied with 5.0/5.0.1 android.
First off don't close applications this is not Microsoft windows, second use CPUspy and a wakelock detector to see what is preventing your tablet from deep sleeping, third use a system disable app like auto run manager to disable any services necessary, fourth.....profit
^Agreed except for the last part.
Those apps that stop/freeze other apps like the one you mentioned, greenify, anything like that are all bull**** that cause more problems than they claim to fix, IMO.
Flash the factory image. Don't take the ota or keep data when its a major new release.
Battery life is awesome on 5.0.1 never been better.
Android 5.0.1
Default OTA 5.0.1 brings NFC active! When i turned it off, the battery became significantly more durable!
Just try it!

If you disable the 3 common service locks keeping the device from sleeping there have been no problems so far for me on n5 or n7
And yes greenify is worthless autorun manager not so much
^Yeah I see what you're saying. But still I don't like interfering with system apps, well like play services I mean. That can cause problems and battery drain. It really depends on how you use the tablet.
Edit: And obviously like said don't be closing running/cached apps. This isn't Windows 98.

Well I fixed it by flashing the unofficial cyanogen mod build for the Nexus 7. Battery life back to 4 days like I'm used to, and no idle drain.
Sent from my precious aka Nexus 7 using xda app. Any errors in the post are caused by auto correct and as such are Larry Page's fault, not mine.
I have the same issue something is keeping mine from sleeping cause its always warm. I used to get 5 days now I only get 3.
Hey folks, I've had my Moto Z Play since November of 2016, and so far have been enjoying fantastic batter life - generally around 8 - 10 hours over 2 or 3 days.
However, I had a nasty surprise a couple of days ago.
I charged the phone to 63% before I went to bed, and then turned it off. When I turned it on in the morning, it drained over the course of around 5 minutes (browsing reddit using swipe) to 14%. By the time I checked what was going on it was at 9%, and it had reached 7% before I decided to turn the thing off. Fun times.
I plugged the phone in with it still powered off, and it leaped straight from 7% back to 63% reported charge. Mighty strange eh.
I've not had this exact issue again, but I am concerned as my battery life seems to be significantly reduced when I compare it to before the incident. Watching youtube videos I am draining about 1% / 5 minutes, as opposed to the 1% / 10 minutes that I was getting previously.
There don't seem to be any rogue apps running, and I am slowly uninstalling anything that was recently updated, although I feel this is unlikely to be related to the issue.
I am unrooted, running the nov. security update in the UK. I have been charging using an Anker brand cable and power brick.
I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar issue to this? Thanks for reading, have a good day people.
With it jumping back up I'm thinking it's a software glitch. I'd back up my data, do a full data wipe /factory reset and see if that helps. If not, then time to call up Lenovo for a warranty repair.
thanks for that - yeah I agree, reckon I'll wipe and see how I go for a week or so. I bought through a good retailer in the UK, so hopefully getting action on a repair shouldn't be too much of an issue if it comes down to it.
Without much knowledge of how the technology works, it sounds to me like it's either a software glitch as you suggest, or potentially a bad battery.
Yep, those were my first two thoughts. Good luck with it!

I was on a pace to get something like that yesterday - but I had to go to sleep so I could get up for work. Had 8:40 SoT over 17h off charger, with 46% left. If I could have stayed awake all night I might have made it! ?
Is anyone else's Pixel XL having not so great battery life since the update? I'm getting 3-3 1/2 hours of sot today i was at 70% so far and 45 min of screen time and barely been on phone. I did a hard reset 2 days ago to see if that did anything but still the same the past 2 days.
Mine isn't that bad, but I definitely noticed a drain after 7.1.2. It was enough that I was checking to see if some rogue app was running in the background. Glad to hear I am not the only one.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
yea, i talked with google support and they had me stick it into Safe mode and to try that for a couple hours to see if the drain persists. Basically every app I use is blocked in safe mode so we will really get down to see if its phone or apps

I have noticed it too.
for me my battery drain was from play music. I had the same battery life as you, I went to pure stock with only my bootloader unlocked and the drain persisted. I stopped using Play Music and started streaming with a different app and my battery life jumped to 2 days after a while
I think it has been about similar to what it was prior to update. I typically average about 4 hours talk time and stream music on Play Music, typically a few hours worth a day. I am also in a terrible Cell reception area. On screen time is usually 2hrs+. Typically after a full work day I still have about 60% almost religiously every day.
Did you do the OTA or did you hard reset the phone after the 7.1.2 update? I had a drain issue back on 7.1.1 --> 7.1.2 beta and the hard reset fixed it.

I did OTA 7.1.2 and been on it since it was released and then did hard reset 2 days ago. And I know some of my apps kill it like I said but even when I havent been on it today I was dropping fast. My buddy is at 54% with his and has 54 min of SOT so something is up with this patch.

Crap battery life here. I've even gone as far as a factory reset and not restoring data/apps. Sitting on my desk on wifi (lte makes no difference) with nothing running, 10-20% battery drain after about 2 hours. I went from about 2 1/2 days of moderate (for me at least) usage to where the hell is my charger.

I use Force Doze, i.e. forces device to doze on screen-off immediately.
It reports a 5% drop during 10 hours of dozing.
Why the hell
For me it's fine. Same battery like 7.1.1.
I did that support with google and they said to email them back after a couple hours to report what happened, that was 2 days ago and still nothing in return. So thats neat
So following up on my battery issue, I contacted Google and told them about my problem. They take about 3 days to reply so its been a long process. Told me I could send my phone in and they would look at it and decide if a replacement would be granted. The turn around time is ONLY 5-10 days without a phone. I have my own business so this wasnt an option. Next they were asking questions and one came up is there any physical damage. The attached picture shows the "damage" of a 5 inch fall out of pocket when i was sitting on sidewalk with my daughter. They then told me that I would need to send it in to their third party provider UBreakIFix to get it fixed then I could send it in and have them look it over and then TRY to get me a replacement. I dont think I've ever had a worse possible experience with customer service. Between taking as long as they do to reply to the whole 5-10 days without a phone option even after I tell them I cant be without a phone that long. Needless to say I dunno that I would ever buy another warranty for a google product if this is how they provide it. I love the phone but I guess it shouldnt be at 80% within a couple hours of the day after it is unplugged.

I don't use Facebook at all. I've tested with Google Voice turned off and with all location settings off, makes only a minor difference. I'm talking minutes of battery life difference. I don't even know that 7.1.2 is at all to blame. It does seem slightly better since this month's update. I've even tried to factory reset without loading any of my apps back on to see if something was hoovering up the battery. Same deal.

Don't read it if it bugs you when people talk about stuff on forums.
Odd. I have tons of apps on my phone and use Facebook often(including messenger) but with relatively low brightness, Bluetooth, GPS WiFi scanning for location constantly on and still occasionally get a good 4 hours SoT. On occasions I get lucky and get something magical like in tagged pictures. Maybe a replacement for anything lower than 3 1/2 of SoT would be in order.
For me, it was Android Auto.
Don't know why, but that seemed to have done the trick for me. My battery was showing a few apps that seemed to point to streaming or using BT (Google Play Services, Podcast Addict, Samsung Accessory App were taking more battery than Phone Idle, when my phone was sitting idle most of the day). So, over a few days I uninstalled/reinstalled all various apps (Samsung Gear Manager, Podcast Addict). Nothing seemed to work. Then I uninstalled Android Auto, and battery life went back to "close" to normal. Reinstalled it, and it was fine until it connected to my car. After that ... the battery drain came back.
Haven't played around with settings in android auto to see if there is a setting that can resolve the battery drain. I have just left it uninstalled for now.

Same here. If battery is hurting then get BBS from Play or XDA thread. Check out what's alarming overnight and you're bound to find the culprit. For me it was MiBand 2 app draining 0.5% / hour overnight while doing absolutely nothing. I'm now down to 0.5% / hr total and can also spend and entire day plus without a charge since deleting the app and removing the band. Some of these apps insist on pinging home or keeping the phone awake with screen off. Get rid of them and you'll be fine. Either that or give it a quick charge during the day for about 15 min.
