Of course! I don't know how real it is but you should know that smartphones are not made to last, new models will replace the older ones.Remember about the planned obsolescence: Things are disposable

Your question is not clear, I mean...the phone itself (the hardware) is going to be phased out...that is for sure but Sony will keep doing software upgrades for some time. We may get Kit Kat next year (at the end of 2014 or early 2015)

Lol at the end of 2014, my god but google already launched kit kat which is already coming with nexus 5 and i know sammy will launch the same too at the earliest then why sony is launching very lately???? :crying:

Unless you are a Samsung g3 owner, they are should have been getting the 4.3 update this month but had been pulled.
Source BBC.co.UK web site tech section.
Don't always think Sammy will get updates any quicker.
If you want quick updates get a nexus device.

[Q] Android 4.4 kitkat any chance for S/SL,acro S?

Well maybe a lot of us we now that today Google anunced the next Android and noo its not 5.0 Key lime pie it's Kit kat 4.4....
since qualcomm does not release drivers an we are for that screwed up to be on 4.1.2 (and not andorid 4.3 or at least 4.2) ans that sony it's a sh*t in updates
You think that we are going to recive it?
the great "slogan" of kitkat "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody."
wat you do you think or expecta abour that?
Personally i think that will remplace the old 2.3 to 4.4 and the JB to 4.4 will add a lot more of features andd the fragmentation will be "gone" and all in 4.4, but then i think so twice and F*ck if sony cant give us 4.2 and 4.3 because of qualcom we will stay in 4.1 :S
OFFICIALLY, I don't think so. But i believe the developer in XDA will sort it out, somehow. Oh by the way, i'm fine with 4.1.2.
The Xperia S is getting older by the day, so I don't think that there will be any chance of an official 4.4 update for our phone. I do think that developers will create some 4.4 ROMs for it, though. I wish I could try out the selection of ROMs out there, but my bootloader can not be unlocked.
We can only count for Rayman and letama in this situation
In my view it is not going to happen. When will they release kitkat? 2014?
These phones just get too old...
i dont see any point about "the phone is old".
so what? yes it's getting older, but it doesn't mean lost all capability for running new OS.
in my opinion, it just marketing strategy from manufacturer, they want our money. so they stop support for "old" hardware. Of course, they can create new software for our old xperia with additional budget if they want to do so, but they raise nothing.
i didn't blame qualcomm or sony. this is very logic marketing strategy from manufacturer, i will doing the same if i'm the CEO.

Never said it lost capability, and I agree, it is most likely a marketing strategy to end support for old products and push for people to fork out money for their newer product range.

if sony isn't releasing more software updates, at least we can ask them to unlock our bootloaders when they drop support?

Well I still partly blame Qualcomm, and Sony shouldn't have used such an old SoC. But if I really cared, I wouldn't have bought this phone, it's still miles ahead of the armv6 thing I had before. Anyway, you're right it's partly marketing, they want to sell new phones. And it's still a management problem. You can't just conjure up firmware, some developer needs to make it. Sony has a lot of models to support so developers have to be reassigned to newer models.
But that's part of the problem, I don't get why Sony makes such an abundant amount of models. Instead of making something like the Xperia L or M, they could still make the Xperia S and sell that for about the same price (and XS is way better specced than XL). Something like Samsung does with their Galaxy S (insert number) Advance/Plus/Whatever phones. I thought Sony was going to concentrate on the high-end market, but they keep on making those BS cheap phones that make Android look bad. I'm sure Sony could manufacture and sell an Xperia S or T for about €200 right now.

Don't blame Sony on that one. It's your provider demanding a locked bootloader and you bought it through them (probably sponsored with your subscription plan). I don't usually tell people to get a Samsung, but next time you get a phone with your subscription, get one with a bootloader that's less secure. I know the 2011 Xperia's were easier to unlock, but that was no excuse to just blindly assume the 2012 line is (if you even researched that). I heard that some Samsung phones have secure bootloaders in the US though, so even that party might be over. In general though I'd advise you to get a SIM-only subscription and be the boss over your own phone (and yeah that could mean paying €400 instead of €100 for your phone, you want an unlockable bootloader or not? At least you save on the cheaper subscription)

Good idea but I like more to a refined campaign give my Xperia S for a discount for Xperia SP, or Z o ZL, but the bootloader it's not a bad idea
But it was supposed that key lime pie will be able do fit on a 512 ram phone if really its the case then 2.3 will jump to 5.0(and Xperia of 2011 should have to) but it's not 5.0 it's 4.4 and referring to the slogan "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody." I hope that in October give us a good idea of what means

I'm not complaining with the updates so far. I think they did a good job (although a bit late) with the updates, but if the phone is able to run the new android versions, they could give us a chance. Also, after they drop support the subscription period will be over, so the phone will be 100% ours.
This is just like what people did to apple when the iPod 3 came out. People wanted all the awesome features of 3.1.2 on the iPod touch 2 the multi tasking and what not and apple said it couldn't handle it. Well an official 3.1.2 came out for the iPod 2 and my god was it buggy slow choppy and all around ****. Sometimes it is just too much for the device to handle, note that I may be wrong for the iOS version that first had multitasking but that's besides the point

Well you get a point but it's like put JB Into a Xperia x8 it can't handle it because of ram, internal storage etc but for example the Xperia S ( it's the device I have) it can handle 4.3 but it does not came we have to wait and see if " for everyone" really it is and tat means lower requirements in older phones, not for having 1 year they can't handle it(look the nexus4 it's old and update)
And well for that they make proves(well Sony make them with the customer) and if not f*ck we will port it XD

IMO SONY wont give a 4.2 update but if that happens, beers to SONY team.oops,i mean cheers :good: to SONY team.as the present android 4.1 official update is great but with some minor not so noticable bugs  i dont have any idea of what android 4.4 KITKAT will bring but i bet we will get it from great developers at xda.we will atleast get a AOSP based nightlty beta rom because XPERIA S is a very strong and fast phone though all say LOW BENCHMARKS and SNAPDRAGON S3,but i know its still faster and can handle next android versions without any hiccups.why the heck they decide to stop giving updates even the device is fully capable.x10 mini pro left with android 2.1,but the android 2.3 rom runs much faster and better battery life why some left at 2.3 and some at 4.3 ? i hate this fact

Is not very clear.. we know how this is.
But is a very good new.:good:
If I'm not mistaken it's not LG that replied to your comment but some random dude. So it doesn't mean anything. But on the other hand even LG had lied about updates in the past.
So don't get your up too much.
if it's true what he said he didn't mentioned our model, and i don't believe in that story until i see update on my e975 for 4.4

as he says we're working I don't think that he's a random guy. and you know, LG admins don not have the right to announce anything until they arre told to do. So they act more conservative. look at the screenshot attached. Some information are company confidential. But the employees are more free to do it. I mean even if he's not true about next month he must be true about the coming of the update.

Well, Optimus g is optimus g. my model is e975 too. and this one must be the first to get it. becaause AT&T models should be customized and also requested by AT&T... International ones are the ones supported directly by LG.

One again, a "no-news" and a lack of reliable source...
Don't get me wrong, I'd like the KK update as anyone else but what is provided here is just enough to built hope on some, nothing more.
No reliable source, nothing official, and, IMHO, someone using terms like "dude" on a responce is far from beleivable. I don't know what is "confirmed" by this screen, but it's nothing but hot air!

Cannot see the word Dude mentioned in this thread before your posts and in any case, I'm not bothered what words are used to describe hopeful software updates for our devices
Also, belief in something is personal and I'm happy to at least hope for future updates based on this thread

The G2 already has 4.4 In Korea tho.
World wide, I meant.
Let's study the situation a bit deeper.
reasons we get the update:
1. if we consider the 18 months period of recieving updates, we still have 4 months left. G was released in October, 2012
2. I think except for the initial batch, most of the devices had Jelly bean 4.1.2 while being sold and they still have the same version. So there should be at least an update to a higher version.
3. Physically the device has all the potentials to be upgraded to kitkat and as a previous flagship deserves to get it.
4. the leaked news says that they were testing kitkat on both g pro and g. Now that they are releasing the update for g pro by the end of Q2. There should be an update for g as well since we know that the device doesn't lack anything to run kitkat smoothly.
resons no to get it
1. Why should a company care for a phone from 2012 while there are so many other new phones 2013 onward?
Well I think we have more reasons to get it than not to get it.
to get or not to get. this is the question
and look
Samsung officially announced the models which will get kitkat. Among them you can see Note 2 which was released in September, 2012 and Galaxy S3 which was released in July, 2012!!
So let's keep our fingers crossed

Standard canned response telling nothing at all. They'll forward the request! Dosen't mean LGOG is getting anything as of now.
Heeeeeeey
I didn't forget anything. I have written the question everywhere and I've got the same response as the one you attached. I myself attached one last page.
They are not allowed to announce anything. Actually they don't know anything. They are simply page admins. Whenever they say something it's not true or exact. No one knows exactly when everything will be ready but I believe it will be ready one day not so far from today.

Cos the idea we'll get Android 5.0 on the Note 10.1 2014 is a load of fragrant hot air?
Now waiting for 4.4.4..
Come on Samsung, don't keep us waiting.
4.4.3 is just a very minor bug fixing update from 4.4.2. At least we got Kit kat with an updated Samsung skin on top as well. That's honestly a much bigger deal than getting 4.4.3. Now all we need is a stellar ROM packed with some nice tweaks and features. The upcoming Hyperdrive ROM by Sbreen looks to be it.
They'll probably skip 4.4.4 and just go to 5.0.2 in December. Hopefully there's a maintenance update to fix the video bugs in 4.4.2.
Why shouldn't we expect Updates
>>By samsung-policy wise, galaxy note will be out of its 18 month support period so no 4.4.3
Why shouldn't we expect updates. If I buy a laptop with windows I get updates (in the case of my old xp machine for over 10 years) granted my hp or dell support has long since lapsed but I can still update the operating system for bug fixes and enhancements ect..
If I buy an iPad I get updates in the case of my wife for over 4 years now.
So My question is why should Samsung or the android tablet market function any differently?

Iphone 3GS/4/4S and Ipad 2//3 did get updates to iOS6/7, probably iOS8/iOS9 too.
Did all these got all new features and works flawless with new updates? Siri was left out on IP4.
Go google on how it worked and u got u answer.
Samsung, like almost all manufacturers, for almost all devices, uses to provide a single major update, and that was Kitkat. LG seems to be special. They can manage to provide two dozen "micro updates", seemingly only fixing baseband issues affecting operation with certain providers in certain countries. No fix list, but that was the purpose of Nokia updates in the past.
My LG L9 got an update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 one and a half years ago, from v10x to version v20a. This went up to v20p since, and there was never the slightest noticeable difference. Even a small wifi bug remains present since v20a.

it won't most probably.. sammy doesn't give more than one major update to phones which aren't flagships (S & note series- not Neo)..
we'll get KitKat within the next couple of months hopefully! then we will be dependent on devs for further updates.
PS- next android version is lollipop if I'm not wrong..

it is good in nexus 5 and waiting for ours..
I sometimes wish that I hadn't bought this phone . I could never whole heartedly enjoy my phone since somewhere I knew there are very few chances of this phone being updated. I still wonder how samsung manages to still sell so much without timely updates for all of its devices. Not buying samsung again probably for the next few years until I see an improvement
Will stick to sony or Motorola or nexus series next time
This phone would no way get updated to Android L this year. May be six months from now in 2015 after Note 3 gets updated .
Even Nexus devices (Nexus 5) no longer get updates quick . It's all a matter of time

[Q] LG G3 and our friend Android L

Do you guys think LG will be quick to update their device(s) to the new version of android once its out? I have high hopes given their recent record of impressive releases, sort of like a Motorola-esque turn around.
I reckon it will take them 3 months after L is out by Google
LG will not take too long, but Verizon will as usual take months to deliver an OTA of the original and buggy Android L, if ever, while LG and Google have released many improved builds in the interrum which Verizon may never ship.
As evidence, see history, including the fact that so far Verizon has released none of LG's builds of 4.4.2 past v10b it initially shipped with.

They are one of the slowest when it comes to firmware updates.
Their flagship G2 received 4.4.2 in the final days of March 2014. Nexus 5 was released in October 2013. Go ahead and count the months yourself

Non of the us versions actually received update beside tmobile...that's only because they had their wifi calling update and they snucked some things in there for the lg users, including some bug fixes. US is simply horrendous wiht updates lol

They are one of the slowest when it comes to firmware updates.
Their flagship G2 received 4.4.2 in the final days of March 2014. Nexus 5 was released in October 2013. Go ahead and count the months yourself

This is precisely what I was concerned with, while their history isn't to great, neither is any other manufacturers with the exception of Nexus branded and Google Play Edition devices. However, LG seems to have turned a new leaf with their "homerun" G3, the G Watch, and the anticipated G Watch R . Here's to hoping a timely update. I have the bootloader unlocked T-Mo version, but there is limited development at the moment.
Don't hold your breath. And even if LG does get L out quick, don't expect it to look like pure L.
Hope we will get unlocked bootloader by that time

HTC is great with updates, Moto X is too. Hopefully LG realizes that this something that people who buy flagship phones care about
Im thinking 3 months or sooner after android l is finalized for us. Considering we re a flagship phone im hoping sooner.
Eventually it will come but not as fast as the One Plus or nexus devices and i think even the One M8.
But we will see maybe they surprise us i don't know. What i know is LG not that good at the quick updates so far.
lol we are still in 4.4.2

i know but still
Well i know that now all major OEM get new android version code 6 months in advance so they can beta test in and prepare before it comes out so i think it should arrive 1 month or 2 after oct
I hope you guys are right and we see it soon but I think you are all dreaming. LG's track record is horrific when it comes to updates and there is no better way to predict the future than to look at the last. If they had turned over a new leaf this phone wouldn't have shipped with 442
