I know that there's an app available for the Galaxy S 3 which allows USB Mass Storage Mode on the device... is there something similar which works on the Nexus 7?
Yes sure, this APP is called "Nexus Media importer"
You'll find it in play store

lots of folks use StickMount also found on Google Play
I don't think StickMount is what I'm after, that allows a user to use a USB drive via USB-OTG cable.
I wish my Seagate external hard drive would connect.

I think what he means is to connect the Nexus 7 to PC via USB as an USB mass storage, not a media player. As far as I know, it is not possible though... :/
the SGS3 Easy UMS only works for external storage card, not available on Nexus 7.
Hello, I'm Marcin. I made Nexus 7 USB Storage Enabler app.
ROOT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS APP!
WORKS ONLY ON NEXUS 7 AND NEXUS 7 3G!
This simple app allows you to use any of USB storage devices with your Nexus 7 using USB on the go! It's not running in background like the other apps, but it patches the system files so it won't slow down your tablet.
★ Make sure your flash drive is formatted as FAT or FAT32!
★ You only have to press one button and everything will work automaticly
★ Your flashdrive will be mounted as /data/media/0/usbstorage
★ Don't try to access it by usbstorage directory on your "sdcard"
★ To browse it - use your favourite root-enabled file manager like X-plore
★ Make sure your USB storage device is unplugged before using this app!
I want to share my app with XDA for free, you can download apk below. If you want to support me or buy me a beer, you can download it from Google Play for 2USD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doodleapps.usbenabler
I hope you'll enjoy this app.
Cheers,
Marcin
Why not NTSF r/w?
I use FREE ([root] StickMount + [root] Ntfs Mounter) and everything seems fine
Thank You for sharing, nice apps:good:

If you guys haven't checked out the portal, there's a new app which mimics USB Mass Storage! I did not make this app, but i just wanted to share it with people who may be looking for it.
Check out the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888
Or the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler
Enjoy guys!
We've actually had SGS3 EasyUMS for quite some time now.

I'm using 4.4.2 (XXUND3) & OTG Cable is working okay when connected.
But...
Unable to connect mass Storage mode when connection to laptop (windows xp sp3).its still connecting on MTP mode.
Before kitkat update(On 4.3) it's working flawlessly but ,unfortunately it isn't working now on 4.4.2.(still on MTP mode wtf?)
Tryed to freeze MTP SERVICE on titanium but no luck.
Anybody knows how to disable MTP Mode anyway?
Used mass storage enabler app from play store but,No luck at all.
Any workaround?
