[Q] Issue mounting sd card - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi, I downloaded CM11 and had no issues with my internal sd but I tried a different rom, didn't like it, and restored back to the CM11 rom. Now, I'm having issues with the sdcard. It doesn't show. I have all my backups, pictures, music there. I know for a fact that it still exists because I can see it when I mount it on recovery. When I load into the os, it says I have no sdcard. So how do I fix this?

I'm having them same issue. But can't mount in recovery or no apps can detect my SD card. I know all my data is on my SD card. Took data off formated SD still can't detect SD. Sooo stumped. Ran several 4.3 ROMs. Heard they weren't good because of SD issues. Issue did start after installing a 4.4 ROM though. If a solution if found I'll get back with you. But as it sits I've tried everything except reverting back to stock and rerooting. Last resort.

I just posted about a similar issue I'm having with custom ROMs reading my SD card for this phone. not sure but would be interested if anyone knows what's going on

Good to I'm not only one. Been using twrp 2.6.1.0 with no issues. Been running 4.3s for while. Tried some TW.. No issue.. Tried some 4.2.2a again.. No issues. Tried latest Slim 4.3.1 and BLAMMO! had issues booting it but finally did.. Then restored back to a 4.2.2 ROM and now my ext SD is not visible. It is intact cuz twrp sees and restores from it.. WTF!

EDIT my previous. Slim is vindicated. Seems both of my 4.2.2 backups are corrupted for some reason. Restored a Slim 4.3 build and my SD card issues are gone. Weird.

CWM 5 and nandroid backups

I have 3 nandroids using cwm. Stock Rom, AEmod Rom and Starburst Rom. They are all on internal sd. Today I tried flashing a theme over starburst that I didn't realize wasn't compatible so I ended up in boot loops. When I booted into recovery to nandroid back to starburst, cwm was not recognizing any files despite the fact I can see them on the SD card. It's telling me "no files found".
Anyone else encounter this?
P.S. I ended up reflashing the ROM itself, but the weird part is that it downloaded and had all my previous settings. It wasn't like I installed a new rom from scratch. It was very odd. I cleared everything before I flashed the zip too, so I'm sort of puzzled.
So you are up and running now just have some settings left over from before? The reason some of this didn't get erased is likely because you didn't format system. This step wasn't included in the original instructions for flashing the Starburst rom. If you look at the Starburst thread in the Dev forum it will now show this additional step. Hope it helps, this is one additional step you need to do when flashing a rom or restoring a nandroid.

T, you are one step ahead of me. I can't even get CWM to make a nandroid. I get "Can't mount /sdcard". I've pretty much tried everything, but giving up for now. Samsung is crazy obstinate and complicated compared to HTC. But this rig is worth it

[Q] Flashing a stock kernel? (FI03 app2sd issue)

I am using stock rooted FI03 with AGAT 5.4 kernel and I cannot move any apps to my external SD card (tells me there is not enough space). I want to try flashing a stock kernel with Mobile Odin to see if this will fix the issue, but I want to make sure there are no consequences of doing this that I am unaware of. I figure I will loose Clockworkmod Recovery but will still be rooted, so I can flash back to AGAT 5.4 or another recovery kernel when I am finished. Anything else I should know?
(If anyone has any other suggestions on getting the phone to move apps to the external SD again, I would love to hear it!)

There are others with that issue as well in this thread that may give you another option without going back to stock.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879381&page=7
But no, you shouldn't have any issues with what you've suggested and you already listed what you will/won't have.
Either flash with odin as tar or in recovery as zip

Well, flashing the stock kernel did not go well for some reason. I flashed the stock FI03 tar with Mobile Odin and got a soft brick, wouldn't get past the Samsung logo. I used Odin to flash back to AGAT 5.4, cleared the triangle and it's working fine.
On the subject of not being able to move any apps to the External SD (reporting no space available), that is finally working again! The kernel flashing I mention above did not fix this issue. What does seem to have fixed this doesn't really make sense to me, but then I don't understand what was causing the issue in the first place...
I was messing around with the Amazon Kindle app, trying to figure out where it was storing covers and books I had downloaded. I downloaded a couple of large free books from the Amazon store and found that it had placed them in the data/data/com.amazon.kindle/files folder. Not wanting them to take up space in my system, I decided to try moving them to the kindle folder on the internal SD (where I also put books I have sideloaded). I found that the Kindle app still accessed them fine here.
Now, at some point after this I happened to notice that Titanium Backup was showing that the Kindle app was on my external SD. I did not think much of this at the time, figuring that moving the 2 books to my internal SD had confused something. But today, before planning on reflashing FI03 to see if it would fix this, I tried moving an app to the External SD (just to be sure it still wasn't working) and it worked fine. Also the Kindle app IS on my external SD card. I have no idea why or how this fixed my issue, but I can think of nothing else I could have done which would have fixed this...
Yesterday, I lost the ability to move to ExtSD again, did nothing I know of to cause this. Made a nandroid, planned to go back to prior nandroid where moving to ExtSD was working, but moving to ExtSD suddenly started working again (on it's own, as far as I know).
The continuing adventures...

[Q] My GS3 i747 ATT no longer reads my 64gb sd card. help please.

Ive been using my gs3 for some time now, rooted and working great. i updated my clockwork and flashed a few new roms along with new kernels. My problem is now i can not get my phone to mount my 64 Lexmark micro sd. it was fatx then moved it to fat32 but when its fat32 my phone says its damaged and ask to format, so i format then after that it can not mount it. it works fine on my older android phones but they are not rooted. so i suspect Clockwork recovery. im at 6.0.2.3 tried both touch and non touch. no luck. tried many different roms along with stock and stock kernel. no luck. any help? or link to older clockwork recovery that work?
thank you also running 4.1.1 jedi outcast rom right now
Did you try formatting it back to exFAT? Mine is formatted FAT32 and reads fine. Does the card read when you put it in a computer?
Yes I tried to format it in my pc to both fat32 and fatx. Also reads fine on my pc.

Here are a few possibilities:
- does the card work in any other devices? pc, phone, etc.?
- format card after saving files if needed.
- try a different card. Possibly a bad card.
I flashed thw stock kernel and problem went away

Hello,
I am having this exact same problem. This is after flashing Wicked rom version 8. Do i have to go back to cyanogen mod or can this be fixable. Can I flash the stock kernel like the above user did, but on top of Wicked rom?
I dont have a card reader on my computer so I cannot format it from there. Is there way I can format it through my phone and see if that works?
Sorry I am a newb to all this.
thank you.
Any idea on what I can do?
- The SD card works (tested it on another phone)
- I first got this message when I rooted the device (I was running everything stock back then) Then I flashed cyanogen mod (stable) and the SD card worked perfectly.
- Now i flash Wicked rom v8 and the problem appears again
plz help.....I'm going to try to reroot and see what happens.

problems restoring hellybean

I have been using hellybean for a couple of months now. I have found that I have problems doing restore to a previous version.
Some background. I have had SD card issues in every version after 20131013. MY SD card frequently becomes inaccessible . I have not been able to find a solution for this so I end up reverting back to 20131013 release. Each time a new release comes out I try it. The SD card issue is still there for me in the 20131029 version which for me makes it unusable......
Anyway, I always do a back up before trying a new version. What I have found is that that I can't restore with my backup. The phone boots but when the hellybean animation appears it is blue instead of red. It spins and spins and eventually the phone just shuts off.
At this point I have to boot into recovery and do a wipe and install to get back to a working phone.
If I do a backup and restore on the currently installed version everything works as expected. The restore issue also occurs if I try to restore after installing a different 4.3 rom.
Can any one tell me what is causing this?
My Recovery is TWRP 2.6.1.0
Are you saving your nandroid in internal storage or external SD card? If it is external, it may not be working properly because it keeps unmounting and scanning. Just a guess. Also, that sd card issue is not just with Hellybean, I have had it on 3 different 4.3 ROMS recently.

Thanks for the reply. Good point, it is on external. I didn't think about that. I will test this tonight.

Ok I wiped my phone completely including the internal sd, everything but the external sd. I installed the 20131013 version of hellybean. did the setup, made sure everything worked. then I did a backup to the internal sd. download and dirty flashed the latest hellybean. did the setup etc.
then I attempted to restore the earlier version. The restore said that it was successful but on rebooting, once again the hellybean animation was blue instead of red and and after a couple of minutes the phone just shut off and I had to do fresh install to get back to a working phone.
I really can't understand why I can't do a restore.

1. boot to recovery (TWRP 2.6.1.0)
2. I do a backup,
3. do a wipe , not advanced wipe.
4. flash the ROM
5. Flash gapps if necessary
6. reboot system
7. wait 10 minutes or so
8. reboot again
9. go though setup.
The problem occurs if I decide that I preferred my previous set up and attempt to do a restore. I have been using hellybean (love it!). I am using the version from 20131013 . if i try to restore this from my back up after flashing another ROM or a later version of hellybean the restore says that it was successful but after rebooting either the screen is unreadable. random colors etc or the phone just shuts off. The animation for hellybean on reboot after an attempted restore is blue instead of red....
I have found that if I reflash hellybean after trying another ROM and then do a restore is works.
