[Q] Remove stock wireless tether - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello, I use my unlimited data as home wifi, and have been for a while, but I am always afraid that somehow the veri$on tether app (more like fee) will somehow trigger, right now I am using the TikTak rom (for around 10 minutes) and it seems like it's not in this rom at all (the verizon tether deal) can anyone confirm if this is the case, or point me to another rom that doesn't have it?
I'm not real particular with my roms, as long as everything major works and I can still tether. my default is the stock rom just rooted, I like sense and all it's features (though I don't use them all) but am as I said impartial.

tiKtaK has working native wifi tethering and bypasses/does not trigger any Verizon specific restrictions.
Hopefully that answers your question...?

Really? I didn't see that on there, I had a .apk for FoxFi on my storage, and it didn't seem to work on tiktak, so I switched back to wifi tether (the app) I'll pry a little more into that and see how well the native tether works.
also, is there a way to turn off fastboot in tiktak? I had trouble booting into recovery.

Froyo 2.2 ROMS - Android WiFi Tether?

I've tried the stock rooted Froyo 2.2, Ava Froyo 2.2, and OMJ Froyo and the all work great (thanks everyone) but seems like Android WiFi Tether doesn't work on any of them. Is anyone experiencing this?
Actually WiFi Tether works but my laptop can't catch the signals whereas it does on OMJ 2.1fine.
same here
I unfortunately have to agree with you...wireless tethering just does not work yet with this new kernel. I have tried all the same HTC froyo roms as well... I can broadcast and my WiFi device can see it and try to connect but cannot get an ip address ..always 169... I hope this gets fixed soon
I don't use tethering that much anymore (now that I'm not in high school) but once I start college next month I'll need it more than ever, so idk if I should flash 2.2 yet. From everything I've read nobody's gotten it to work on any froyo roms yet.
first, q and a, not development, is where this should have been posted.
second, i'm on cm6 nightly 7/29, with the new radio and wimax flashed over it. i had no problem at all using the froyo hotspot (obviously not sprint's, bc no sprint packaged material is on the cm6 aosp release). it's not 4g, but it works. i tethered my ps3 with no issues at all.
im in same boat... once i head back to college i'm going to want to take advantage of the unlimited 4G... and without wifi tether thats going to suck.. hopefully someone can figure this out -
maybe someone will make a kernel with it enabled based on whatever in 2.1 that allows it ...?
does PDANET work? anyone who upgraded?
this is in wrong section but I used version 2_0_5-pre4 and it works fine. right now on Stock Froyo rooted but switching to Fresh 3.0 beta 2 in a few min
cyanogenmod's rom has working tethering. doesn't have 4g or sense, but wifi tether works, as does everything else.
werid
weird, still not working for me, I am going back to 2.1 OMJ for now, I need my free 4G WIFI TETHER DEVS!
I don't really care about tethering, but can you get any of the fps "fixed" kernels to work on any of the 2.2 roms?

Does the wireless tethering capability that comes stock with Froyo not work for you? Works fine for me in CM6.
Need some time?
The leak has only been released less than 2 days therefore obviously still have a lot of issue with old APP. just give the Developers sometime and I am certain they will come up with something. Beside the leaked 2.2 floating around is not really a final copy anyway so what's the point of working so hard on something that will be replace in a few days. Think all the Developers should just give themselves a beer, sit back relax to calm down their nerves so that their brains will be working at 100% when the final release come out.
Oh,

Didn't try that but does that work with 4G too? (if you didn't sign up for 4G?)

Can you give specifics of your setup? I tried the Evo-Froyo-2.2-Rooted-Stock-3.26.651.3-Deodexed ROM (with latest radio + wimax) but could not get version 2_0_5-pre4 to work. It starts wifi tethering BUT my laptop cannot find /discover it.
Thanks.

Me too.. yes sir.. it no work
he is probably on cm6. you cant really compare the two roms since sprint has its hand in locking up a native feature of the device for profit. we probably need the kernel tweaked by one of the devs in order to get this working.
Yeah, my laptop cannot see it either.

Everyone with an Evo on Sprint is "signed up" for 4G. It may not be available where you are at, but you are paying for it and "signed up" for it.
i ended up purchasing pdanet for tethering. was only 18.95. to be honest this phone is great, but we all know the battery's shortcomings. im ok with killing 2 birds with one stone by tethering usb and charging the phone at the same time . Any solution is cheaper than sprint's recurring tethering charge.
Does pdanet allow tethering over 4g in a 2.2 rom? If so, what speeds are you getting?

[Q] 4.2.1 Tethering on sprint possible workaround.

This issue may effect more than just sprint GNex users, i'm not sure. Ever since 4.2.1 has hit our developers hands i've had nothing but issues tethering my internet. Unfortunately for me tethering is my only means of internet, so this poses quite a problem for me. One easily solved by going back to a 4.1.x rom, but who whats to downgrade, what's the fun in that?? I have messed around with different 4.2 roms and found a few that act differently and i'm hoping that the devs can collaborate and get a system together what works flawlessly like 4.1 did.
First rom up: Paranoid Android 2.99 PIE 4.
No tethering at all on this rom. Tethering turns on and technically works fine but there is an error with SecPhone.apk and data is dropped on phone until tethering is turned off.
2nd Rom: Black Bean 7.
Half-ass tethering. Tethering runs well enough at first, but any drop in data, and my phone can't reestablish a data connection. Again causing a problem with SecPhone.apk.
3rd Rom: CMK v2.
Tethering seems to function flawlessly on this rom. Connection reestablishes after a call just like it should. I'm hoping that whatever this dev did to make the tethering work we can get on all of our 4.2.1 roms.
So my next question. Can I fix the issue by installing CMK's SecPhone to PA and have tethering working? Does the problem lay in the SecPhone app or is it just an innocent bystander crashing when something other go haywire?
Try sourcery rom. Has the tethering capabilities of cmk and all the features if PA plus much more. Auto hide navbar and keep screen off when plugging in charger are a few exclusive features with many more.

[Q] Legal tether

I got my G3 from Ting, a Sprint reseller. I pay for data, and my phone comes with the Sprint WiFi hotspot, which I'm sure they are happy I use as much as I like.
I've tried to discern as much as possible about how this app works, but still am not entirely sure if it will play well with a custom ROM. Can I just steal the stock apk from somewhere (the stock ROM on the phone itself I guess would be a good place to start?) and side-load it on a custom ROM?
I've seen other posts where it checks to see if my subscriber ID lets me have it; which since it works fine I assume that check will pass... so I don't need a hacked version ... or do I? It seems to work nicely and unlike some of the other problems I've seen (WPA doesn't work, etc) I'd like to keep it if possible.
The stock, built in tether had been hacked....do if you're not having any issues with what you're using more, you won't have any issues with the hacked native hotspot

Any half-good (free) Wifi Tethering apps out there?

Unfortunately this seems to be turning into a tired question that gets asked at least once a year (under different circumstances or requirements I guess), so happy 2015! The included Verizon tethering app seems OK, but I miss some of the tethering apps I used to use back in Gingerbread that would do things like restrict clients and show current upload/download speeds in-app.
At any rate, I currently have the tethering option from Verizon, and I'm rooted, so hopefully I'm pretty compatible with most of the apps out there. My issue with what I've found so far though is that there's a category of root apps that bill themselves as very hacky workarounds, and most of which haven't been updated in years which makes me a little hesitant to install on my device. Then there's another category of apps, both free and paid it seems, updated somewhat recently, but having even less features than the Verizon app, and/or most user reviews state to the effect that they do not work or are in general awful.
To help shorten the list, I've tried FoxFi, which was not so good imo, and I guess that would eliminate PDANet as well since I believe that requires a USB connection. Also, I'm looking to move away from the native Verizon tethering app.
So I guess this is a sort of "what are you using" topic, and are you happy with it?
Thanks for your input!
Just giving this a bump to see what you guys think.
At least for AT&T's tethering restrictions, flashing any custom ROM (that corresponds with your firmware) will do the trick. Or even any stock ROM that isn't carrier branded to Verizon or AT&T (most other carriers and regions have no such tethering restrictions).
I wasn't that impressed by FoxFi or PDANet either back in Gingerbread days. They seem needlessly complicated, compared to just going to the built-in HTC WiFi tethering setting and turning it on.

Yeah, maybe there's some sort of "just right" when it comes to complication that isn't out there right now. I gave in and downloaded a few root-requiring apps so I'll be giving them a run later today.
Well, I gave both Barnacle and the Wifi Tether app a try - sadly, it seemed that neither could properly control the wifi radio to get it broadcasting. Also, it seemed that both would cause the system Wifi Radio controller to glitch in that I could not toggle wifi anymore after using those apps unless I rebooted my phone. 0 for 2!

[Q] Native tethering VS Custom ROMs

Hi
I've been using a Lollipop 5.0.1 Note 4 port ROM on my Note 3, tethering worked like a charm. I've used up to 125GB monthly for the past 4 months on T-Mobile tethering to my Mac, AppleTV, tablets, desktops, laptops... you name it. Obviously custom ROMs aren't perfect. Battery life is horrible, NFC & GPS doesn't work, Bluetooth and WiFi issues, some stock apps don't work as they should, etc...
I had to upgrade to T-Mobile's Official firmware due to a big malfunction that erased all my data and almost bricked my device. Immediately rooted and downloaded a Deodexed and Knox free Tmo firmware. In just a day I hit the cap on my 5GB tethering plan and my speeds have been reduced to 128kb... Spotify doesn't even load any music on my iPad and I don't even wanna try loading Netflix on my AppleTV.
I've been wondering wth makes a custom ROM able to tether freely and how I could apply that to my "almost" stock ROM. I've read so many threads and comments, applied some suggestions and used some apps and none works for me. I think the best workaround is to break Tmo's APN, but I can't edit it. I'm not a developer neither a noob, but any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

From the main page of the Note 3, not the T-mobile version. I've been using Dirty Unicorns. Battery life is great at least I think. I came from an HTC One M8. The tethering works fine for me. Except there was some leakage of around 200 MB, though I think it depends what detects it. Pretty sure whenever, I update League of Legends that's what detected the leakage. Other than that. I use to play WoW and any steam games, and of course services like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu. No leakage there for certain. I myself not a big TouchWiz fan. So yes, this is your stock 5.1.1 with Dirty Tweaks of course. Give it a shot. I love the rom, but since I'm an addict, I'm always looking for something to flash on my phone. Good luck :good:
