Hi everyone, So a year or so ago I installed a bunch of stuff on my phone and I don't really remember what they were... i'm terrible with phones and I really didn't understand why I installed all these things into my phone either.
I was hoping to get some expert help to help me figure out what it was that I installed and maybe reset my phone and redo all those things again and maybe a link to a guide on how to be updated on these installs.
I think I installed some kinda custom kernal? I do know I have a few things installed cause I was just following some guide a long time ago like clockworkmod, superuser, lucky patcher, SuperSU, Titanium Backup.
I have no idea what any of these programs do if they're useless please let me know.
Also if anyone can suggest something where I can back up my apps (I have a few games I would not like to lose the cache files to, hate to restart). My text messages, contacts .etc (currently using google to do my contacts but if there's a better way lmk).

I see these posts a lot and I really really want to stress that the search tool, and search engines and general really will help you.
Backing up your games is as simple as using Titanium backup (Probably the first thing you'd find on google)
Resetting your phone, flashing back to stock to start over and everything, there's hundreds of guides on it.
Please use your resources.
Everyone starts somewhere, I never knew anything about phones once. It is so simple to start working on them or fix them. A lot easier than a PC. Anyone could do it. It only took me a couple of days to get a decent understanding of all of this. I started with searching.

Yes, I'm a noob, but I'm hoping someone can help me anyway. I used SuperOneClick just like the video said. I have my Superuser icon, but big deal. I can't see how to remove any pre-installed apps or even see what good this is for me.
What am I missing? I have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000M
Thanks gang!

Try Titanium Backup.
Go to the market and download "Android Optimizer" once installed run it and select the un-install button then select "Constrictor" click "OK" and remove all you do not need.
There is also a backup function within the app under the same section rather than remove but i wouldnt rely on that alone.
I would recommend doing a NANDROID backup before you Un-install anything in-case you remove something you later need, or did not know what it was for ect...
Thanks!! Seems to work. Can't find anything called NANDROID, but Optimize Tool Box worked
Doing backups you would need another app, I use is clockwork recovery, then you can boot in to "recovery" and make your back-up, and if say something were to go wrong you would reverse the process and restore your device, which would restore it to the the current state the phone was in prior to the problem not an actual factory restore.
You may wish to look in to nandroid backups and restore, you can find infinite information littered all over this forum, as its quite a common thing to want to do.
Thanks again. I sure could use all the help I can get. I love this phone so I don't want to 'brick' it. Learning the lingo too.
Now that I'm a 'superuser' is there any benefit other than deleting bloatware I had installed on the phone from the factory?
The biggest change you can make is changing ROMs, but that also gives you the biggest risk of bricking.

You could also overclock your phone, to make it go faster

and for sure get a backup before you do too much

I can't make the links fully functional since i'm a noob on the forums, but you should be able to figure out how to get to the sites.

ANSWER
Root explorer or root unistaller 2 apps that will do the trick
Useful
Use Root explorer 2.16 and should be able to look at your Root Directory, especially
Data/ Data directory where you games and apps are installed, can be useful
So i have read many post and i mean many and i am still working my brain on catching on to all these. If you all notice, there is a lot to rooting, what you can do, names to things, so so much my brain hurts lol.
But, finally after almost 2 years of being here, 3 phones i grabbed my cojones and rooted my SG2 while still stock. So here are some things. I was going nuts to get Nandroid backup, come to find out that is just a normal back up while in recovery mode.
Now i was trying to do some things with Titanium Backup but got a bit confused. I noticed that with the lite version, I can only uninstall apps not freeze. I want to clean my phone from all the clogs, especially when i notice my memory use shows most of the time 550m-769m, which i have to keep cleaning it. Hoping, removing some apps will help this. What is the difference between freezing and uninstalling. Also, i came across:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
Which it suppose to tell me which i can which i cant. Does this still apply with ICS? And looking at the list, all greens are good, correct?
Also, using root explorer is kinda weird. I was trying to install S Voice which it seems to be a big pain. For one, i have the package in a folder. When searching for it with Root Explorer, and i find S Voice, try to change permission it wont let me. Telling me the following, "Permissions change was not successful. Please note that some file systems (e.g. SD card) do not allow permission changes."
Also, trying to copy something into my system/app wont let me either.
What am i doing wrong? or missing?
thanks in advance.

I know the difference from freezing and uninstalling is that freezing halts the app from running and removes it from your app list. If you are uninstalling something you think is bloat, back it up first, in case it screws things up you can restore it. Freeze is a good way to test whether or not you want to just simply uninstall it.
Titanium Backup Pro is totally worth the few bucks though if you can afford it.. a real good buy..
As far as the other stuff, I don't mess with system/app things so maybe someone else can help with that.
For the green-coloured apps, I would make sure I have an alternate app that can take care of that feature of the phone. For example you can remove the camera app, but without a replacement/alternate app your phone won't have a camera function.
TBP is the perfect app to test whether an app is good to remove. Just freeze it and see if your phone acts up. My understanding is that freezing=not letting an app run, uninstalling=getting rid of it.
In terms of not having the permission to copy files in the system directories, you may need to install a terminal emulator to change the permissions and do the copying manually.
Thank you guys and sorry for the very late reply. Using TBP i was able to FREEZE many apps, decided to go this route, i was and still am abit afraid of damaging something and not being able to go back and fix it.
However, i still have a few situations. Even freeze so many apps my battery still dies very fax with little use i give the phone. I also see the following apps under my memory usage and i do not know what they are and if they can be froze too to even get more memory back.
Enterprise VPN Service
IPService
SIM Toolkit
CSC
Bluetoothtest (i know that is the bluetooth but do not know if there is a way to freeze this program)
Google Services Framework
Package Access Helper
com.sec.android.providers.d
Download manager
Samsung Account
My Uploads
com.movial.ipprovider
Badgeprovider
Device Management
Systeme manager application
Popupiureceiver
Mobilelife Contacts
smartcardservice

Atmazzz i want to say thank you. Doing what you said helped my hang. I do not have that problem anymore. But i am wondering if fixing the permission could have be the cause i lost S Voice talkback feature. What i mean, is that after doing the wipe cache/dalvik and fixing permissiong, now my S Voice does not talk back to me. No matter how many time i restart the phone or whatever i do, it wont talk anymore.
On another note, thanks to you, i have come to understand more about all the rooting. All i have to do now is soon gets some strength and install a new rom than stock. But there are so many, i do not know which one to use. Especially with the official ICS i bet they are better now.
I just also hope that neither of the rom come with the bricking problem. As far as i read it only happens when using ICS kernel and my phone is 0X12 so i get worry.
So for the past 2 months i have been having issues with my S2. I been wanting to do a factory reset on the phone but I am a little reluctant. Here is what is going on.
My phone has been pretty much freezing every time it can, and i mean freezing for a good amount of time.
It still under Android 4.0.3, not yet updated to latest because I am a bit scare. I have not followed up with anything lately. And I have been trying to catch up but for some reason today, everything seems to be for me like I am reading Chinese.
When I first and only time rooted my phone was last year and it was for the sole purpose of installing S Voice, a feature that i never even use. At the same time, to do so, i had to delete a few apps. Now, i checked Titanium backup and they showed backed up.
So here is what i want to do. My system app, shows 0MB free. I will like to uninstall completely Svoice, update my phone to the lates and start fresh. Then, reroot, so i can only freeze apps, not uninstall them.
Will this be possible with missing system apps? will i run the risk or bricking or what steps should i take first?
For clockwork, i think i still am under 5.0.2.7 touch, that i have not even update. Thats how far back i am. Looking forward to get back in the game. Will continue to do some more search and reading.
As for you wanting to go back to stock, i would reflash 4.0.3 stock (that would give you those missing system apps and less of a risk for bricking ) then use titanium to recover your other apps that is missing.. As far for root, you can do that after the reflash or after you install apps from titanium, your choice.
This is what i did when i had some problems and works for me

hey guys im here again with another question about this crap variant of the S3 -.- (personal feelings its so hard to do anything on this device and there is little information about this phone)
anyway my google apps are not working AT all. i had my phone rooted and i used lucky patcher to patch my google play store for INapp and INlvl purchases and installed a modified play store. around the same time i used a game hacking app called freedom.apk and i read that u had to combine that with market unlocker.apk... it worked out for a bit and everything was fiine then i uninstalled freedom.apk and marketunlocker.apk and then ALL my google apps suddenly stopped working. i have unrooted and factory reset my phone but its still having issues with ALL the gapps saying there is a network error and they can not connect to the server and my wifi settings are not the issue i have checked them over many times.
i also must say because i think the issue lies here.
i was messing around with lucky patcher and tried to modified Arcane legends and i put it as a system app on accident and i forgot to move it back before i reset the phone (i honestly didnt know i did that until after the reset) well after the reset its still on my phone (ive factory reset the phone multiple times unless im not doing it right but im pretty sure i am)
a budy of mine told after i patched the play store im supposed to do other steps that i didnt know but idk im stumped and ive finally decided to ask for help
please any help on this issue is much appreciated i cant even recover my contacts now or anything cuz they are all saved to google -.-...
UPDATED:
i found out how to fix this issue. i had completely forgotten that i had used an ad-blocker on lucky patcher. when i disabled it after re-downloading the app i was able to download all the gaaps and stuff again and recover my stuff from google.

First don't say you use apps to get paid apps for free cause you will be shunned...now in this instance i'm glad you mentioned it cause now we can clear up those apps you mentioned.....right now most apps work against those hack apps so you won't be able to get free paid apps or in app purchases. That being said never combine freedom.apk and marketunlocker.apk that's a definite no no it will cause problems. If you move apps to the system and you factory reset those apps won't disappear cause a normal factory reset in recovery doesn't delete system files and LuckyPatcher.apk will break most apps if you don't know what you're changing.
Now either if your in PhilZ recovery do a full wipe clean install about 4 times then reinstall the rom/backup before everything went to ****
--OR--
Odin back to Stock and redo everything from scratch, i know longer process but this is the only other option.

im honestly having trouble re routing my phone after the wipe ... i noticed tho my previous root was also kinda glitchy some apps i had wouldn't recognize root permission n stuff... i used the srsroot program for windows i think u comented on my last post i did about it. anyway if u could clear it up for me if i flash the CF-auto-root file for the SPH-l710 will it work ive read some peoples it does some it doesn't.
when i did research on freedom i came across some stuff that said to combine it with market unlocker because freedom didnt work in the states or something. and then after i uninstalled it i read people having the issues im having.
yea im learning that slowly with lucky patcher ive broke some apps messing around with them. but i try to research first before i mess around with stuff ive learnd u cant get free platinum in games like arcane legends but ive done it on bloons TD. im just doing it for fun and just to see if i can... i normaly just delete the app after anyway i hardly play mobile games. thanks for the information about being shunned n stuff i should of figured that people would look down upon it but i tend to be honest about what i do

Thank u man. Ive been tearing my hair out over this for awhile... ive tried alot of things except flashing a new rom to my phone...
Just a quick note. Its so very important to make a backup before playing or changing things around. I know this may not help at the moment but just think if you would have took 10 mins and did a backup you could have restored your phone back to its working condition. So please remember to ALWAYS do yourself the favor of taking the few extra mins to make a backup FIRST THING.... I wish i knew more about gapps to helo you out but i dont. I stay as close to stock as i can.... Good luck my friend. I wish you the best. But remember to do a backup next time

Hey all, how the heck is everyone. All the crazy chit going on today it almost seems weird talking about normal stuff lol, but I am not going to let politicians, isis, or end of the world get me down lol.... So I rooted my phone since I own it now and am on no contract. But, I kinda need guidance. So here is what I have done. Rooted, I have super user installed, rom manager installed with flashed recovery clockworkmod 6.0.3.8, root checker installed, sdcard manager installed, busybox installed, titanium backup installed.
Ok, so i am unsure where to go and what to do from here. The clockwork did not install an app to click on so i am unsure how to use it or what it is doing. Titanium backup shows all the apps and not sure do i select them all somehow to do a backup or do i even need them. Rom manager said it would do rom backup but that it would be in a secret system folder and not accessible unless you used adb, not sure what that even is, lol.
I know I am at a point where I need to backup the current rom... not sure I need to backup all the crazy apps i have on here... i mean u can always reinstall them... I rooted to give me more control and hopefully get rid of some things dont need, ok, which are those and how do i get rid of them, and also put on a kewl nice rom that looks great and adds allot to the phone, which rom would that be... trying to find screen shots of the roms....
Anyway, I appreciate any help... I know i am newbie but hope i have at least started off ok...
thank you all ahead of time......
