Bumper (magnetic charging+dock) - Xperia Z1 Accessories

Ok I know everybody has been reviewing the LOVE MEI metal bumper
and people love it. Personally I give it a 2/5 rating and thought it was not worth it at all. Sorry I am not the best reviewer, I am only doing this because I'm bored and studying for an exam lol. Needed a quick break :good:
Ok let's get started.
I found an even better bumper for the same price, which is a better quality metal bumper and protects the front a lot better. When I tried the Love mei bumper, it felt like a really cheap bumper and didn't give me an impression that it would protect my Z1 (it also was wiggling around until you put some paper or something) This bumper also does not wiggle around, compared to the Love mei. It has rubber little mats inside to protect it from getting scratched from the metal (I cringed when I heard scratching noises when trying on my love mei, this case didn't scratch it.
Basically this bumper is about the same as the Love mei but protects it a lot better, gives access to all the needed ports or buttons. Unfortunately you have to dig deep if you want to press the volume and power buttons (same as Love mei bumper)
For the magnetic charging you can cut out the top rubber of your magnetic charger so the charger can fit and you won't have to remove the phone out of the case like how you used to. Of course I tried this with my generic magnetic charger first before doing it on an official one it came with.
Here's the link and some pictures. As you can see, it is charging  Please practice on a cheap magnetic charger before cutting your original charger, I am not responsible if you break it. It worked for me and I was just careful with my xacto knife

This is what you have to do to the magnetic charger

Agree it looks better than the love mei. Just wish they have provided some rubber buttons so you did not need to dig for those buttons, i can see that getting old after a bit. So how comfortable is to hold. Not as nice as naked i suppose. The quest for a better, more comfortable bumper continues.
By the looks of it the bumper raises the screen & back just a bit so it will not scratch when placed on a table.
Did you consider to use screen protectors for back & front. I think that would complete it. I like how you have a wrist strap at the end. The lanyard provision is unique to japanese phones.
Just saw this what do you think ?
【Metal-Slim】Sony Xperia Z1 Bumper frame
No digging for volume buttons, that it isn't metal isn't a problem AND access to magnetic charging. There is a good lip over the screen too. Price seems ok, shipping cost is unusually high though.

Just so you know the bumper you linked is actually made of rubber. I purchased it and its about a 3 on a scale from 1 -10

I had a screen protector on the front and back of the phone with the bumper
My main problem with this is pressing the volume/power button since you have to dig to press it. That's the same with the lovemei bumper as well. It's 7.5/10 comfortable when holding it, but I do wish it had some rubber somewhere to add better grip to the phone. At least I have a strap so it's safe from falls
And as for the magnetic charging, it does fit but you have to cut a little piece of the rubber from the magnetic charger for it to fit. The magnetic charger is too thick to fit at first

I'm not fan of the LOVE ME! bumper either, it looks cheap plus the angle of the bumper is so stupid. I just bought the same model as yours, here new link because eBay seems to be giving headache to us buyers to find it. I only found the other model when I searched this afternooon. But I had it saved in my Watch List.

Case Mate Tough Review

Hey Guys,
I managed to pick up a case mate tough in black today.
First impressions, with the case on it makes the phone a much nicer size to hold and the rubber backing on it gives it a very sturdy grip.
Most screen protectors out there which are dry tends to leave a gap around the edges of the phone, with the case mate tough on this fills the gap up while giving it the lay on the table design.
The case also gives easier access to the power and volume buttons, however i am finding it too easy to accidently press as it feels quite sensitive.
There are 2 nicely cut outs for the noise cancelling and microphone, the rest of the cutouts i must say are perfect.
The home button however is slightly difficult to get to, you have to press it more direct from the top rather than from the bottom up, other than that its pretty must perfect and it protects from drops!
I've attached some photos below, feel free to ask any questions though and i will try my best to answer them.
Hope this helps you guys when purchasing a case!

Nice review! I didn't buy that one, but I was consindering brush aluminum case from case mate.
And, I guess u need this, as well.
Haha thanks! I actually forgot to wipe the screen down! First review so I'll learn to do it next time.
I looked at the case mate aluminium as well; however it doesn't cover the top or bottom completely so that's something to keep in mind.

Not trying to thread jack, But I figured I'd add my little review to give another view point!
Here is a review of the case-mate tough case. If you owned the tough case for your galaxy S II, you'll love this one. They have made the rubber inside case much thicker around the edges of the phone for added protection. The buttons are extremely easy to press and you can even hear them click in as if there was no rubber covering them at all.
After having the tough-case on for about a year the thin layers of the around the headphone jack and USB port started tearing up. Those areas are much thicker this time around. I can throw this thing around like it's a rock and it has no issues. Great protection and well worth the money. If you plan on buying it from case-mate directly make sure you use the CMPeople20 discount code to get 20% off your order. I cost me $33.50 with expedited shipping. Would have been $27 with the free shipping they are offering right now.
Please PM me if you have any specific questions about the case.
Cheers!
how does the case make the home button hard to press? it doesnt look like its covering touching it

Looks tough. Mind dropping it a couple of times to see how well it protects your phone?
Speaking of dropping it, i dropped it accidentally today and it survived!
Don't mean to be negative but I got the case today and it feels great except I'll be returning it. Why? Because the top front and bottom front of the case don't have hard plastic holding down the rubber lips, so they get caught and stretch in the pocket when retrieving. This over time may cause the rubber to tear or stretch too much cause it's very elastic and thin.
Whereas the Otterbox Commuter has the plastic sides cover top, bottom and both sides so that no rubber is loose, but held down tight. A much better product from my experience in the past and looking forward to having it when it arrives in the next week or so. This review will cover what I was talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Dxcyfm3Vg
UPDATE: See my review on both cases here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27997216#post27997216
i also ordered a otterbox commuter as well, should be getting it soon
I ordered the ToughCase for my S3 after having it on my vibrant for the past 2yrs. I've dropped that thing on concrete multiple times and various other surfaces and never had an issue. It wasn't until the past month that the outer plastic starting cracking in the corners which was to be expected at this point.
Also, in my experience the rubber doesn't permanently stretch or rip and I've pulled the phone out of my pocket by the rubber piece many times.
I had the tough case for my GS2. It was ok. Good protection but the silicone was mighty flimsy and pulled when I removed the phone from my pocket.
I also felt that the plastic outside needed to be a little tacky. It was hard plastic and had good texture for grip but was a bit too hard and therefore just a little too smooth on the hand. Now where it was smooth (almost slick) in the hand I felt it was also too rough coming out of the pocket as the texture gripped to my clothing a little to well.
I feel my experience with the GS2 case will keep me from buying it for my GS3. They may have changed those problems though.
I loved the body glove case (the Mirage i believe) I had for my GS1. It had alternating stripes of smooth/tacky and textured lines. It slid in and out of the pocket perfectly and had great grip in the hand. Perfect combination IMO.
When you say your buttons are extremely easy to press is that going to be a problem. I had the seidio active case. Are the buttons as easy to press as that case because I don't like buttons that are too easy to press. Also will it slide easily in and out of your pocket??
Nice review! Have u ever used the incipio silicrylic? seems very much comparable to the Case-Mate Tough and I dont know which one to choose.. Heres a link http://www.amazon.com/Incipio-SA-302-Silicrylic-Silicone-Samsung/dp/B0085VAP38/ref=sr_1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1353870767&sr=1-2&keywords=incipio+s3
i was about to order this case but the back hard plastic had me kinda iffy.. ive had cases that the rubberized coating starts to wear out and fall off. Does the back part have the rubberized coating or is it full rubber

I second this question, does the polycarbonate back have a rubberized or is it just slick?
Another way to ask, if I lay it on a slanted surface back side down, will it slide right off or have a little grip?

Before you start reading I would like to mention some key notes about this article.
Buttocks of Kate Upton
Expensive
You can continue now.
The order
Today received my Zenus Case. The “Galaxy S3 Prestige Classic Dual Leather Diary” to be precise. Quicker than I thought. Fourteen days after my order the mailbox was filled with this package. I ordered the case at Zenuscase.net with paypal. Shipment to Holland costs 8 dollars. This case costs 49,99 dollars. This makes a total of 57,99 dollar, a lot for a case.
The package
The package itself was basic, no protective material just a cardboard box with the case in its own package. Although this is very little protection I think it is enough for just a case, even a case this expensive.

The case itself
Quality
The quality of this case is topnotch. Really good stitching, very nice leather and inner materials. The case really feels expensive. Every corner, and every edge is well made.

Fitment
The Galaxy S3 fits good in the Zenus. Very sturdy and impossible to fall out if you flip the case. Why not perfect you ask ? You need to really push the phone into its housing. The lock button is not really centered with the cutout in the case. I think the case needs a bit of time to fit perfect. Don’t get me wrong, it fits really good but it feels like it is not in there for a 100%, more like 95%.
Cutouts
As mentioned above the cutout for the power button is not fully aligned with the button itself. I believe the cutout is 1mm to high. The button is easily accessible, so I don’t see a problem.
There is not an actual cut out for the 3,5mm jack but the standard Samsung headphones fits well. Really thick jacks as Sennheiser uses might not work. I did not test this!
A cutout for the speaker is present and this cutout has been filled with a cloth piece, preventing dust coming into the front speaker.

The rear cutouts for the flasher, speaker and camera are located just fine if you take a little effort to put the phone good in the case’s housing.
The credit card slots are very well clothed and have a very luxury feel. I don’t use money or credit cards within the case but they fit well.

Ergonomically
As a flipcase fanatic I think this case is very easy to hold, type and watch movies as every other case where the cover flips over the same.

Cover closing mechanism
The case closes very easy and snaps in the magnet lock very fast. My only concern is a myth actually, I’m scared the magnet will affect the phone. I hope somebody can scientifically bust this myth.
NFC
This case still allows you to use the NFC feature with the case around the phone, also the magnet doesn’t affect it.

The pro’s and con’s
Pro’s
Very luxury case with a very good finish
Materials used are very nice to touch
Closing mechanism is very, very good
The case holds the phone really well
Cutouts are good, but not perfect
Very classy case
Con’s
Very expensive
Not all cutouts are well located
(The magnet might affect the phone??)
3,5 mm jack not accessible for really thick jacks
The verdict
The case is an average case, The materials and finish are high-end but the cutouts could have been made a bit tidier. Also the case is very expensive. I will use this case as a daily one because I really like how it feels. I hate to have a rubber condom (Read: TPU Cases) around my 600 euro smartphone. Therefore I have chosen this case. Although I’m a bit disappointed with most cutouts it haven’t lost any functionality and the case just feels so nice. Almost like the buttocks off Kate Upton.
Kind Regards,
Thomas Vasse
Nice review. I picked up a Zenus Masstige Color Edge in Royal Navy a couple of days ago and although I like the fact that it feels less stuffy than an all black or brown leather case it does feel like a 95% product.
When you put 3 cards in the slots the front flap bulges significantly and makes the overall product much thicker than you want it to. I was able to test the case by mashing in my temporary One X.
Other than that it's a good enough case that I would recommend only if you are the type that is willing to spend unwarranted amounts of money on phone accessories.
ed. The closing mechanism on the Color Edge is a snap button on the front side of the case vs. magnet on the rear of this case above. My previous case for my Galaxy Tab had a magnet on the front side and I never experience any issues.
could you post a picture of the top end of the phone? so we could see the jack issue? I am interested in getting this case now
Looks good. Is it made of genuine leather?
Its deffo genuine leather, you can smell ut too. I will make a picture of the top later this day.

I had one zenus case for the GS2.
They made very nice cases now for the GS3.
But I don't like the side flip.
The GS2 case was a flip over, and that's better when someone calls you.
I ask the people of zenus if the make the case like the GS2,and they will not:crying:
Now I have the original samsung flip over case,is very nice, but it is not a zenus,
the zenus leather is very nice, after a year the GS2 case still smells leather.
Good luck with your nice case and thanks for the review.
Cheers.
it looks like $ 20 case.
Very strangely. I know Zenus making nice accessories, but this look like a Chinese chip case.
-Magnet will spoil your screen very soon (The screen will lose sensitivity to touch in the area where the magnet)
Best regards.
Thank you for review.
I have also used a case with a magnet latch and never had a problem.

Seems like the issue with the display would only be if the magnetic area was against the screen though, correct ? This case has the magnetic latch on the back of the device.
Also, I saw no Kate Upton bum.

Uhm out of precaution I took the magnet out, de-sowed the lip of the flip. And made a button with the leather from the lip. I glued this in the hole.
This is a very neat case and it looks really classy lying on my desk, out of precaution i made this the way it is now. Still love the case.
In my honesty to XDA I reccomend everyone to NOT buy this case.
Today it fell on the ground and whilst falling it whipped out my s3 damaging the bezel. Nothing more though.
I thought it was sturdy enough to hold the phone but things are otherways.
I honestly regret my purchase now

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seidio-Sams...ccessories&hash=item564b61dbc4#ht_3764wt_1396
Packaging:
Nothing special, plastic box shipped inside a plastic bagvelope (bag/envelope) The box it comes in is much easier to open from the bottom than the top, learn from my mistake. No fancy packaging here, the case slides around inside the box a bit. Nothing inside the box but the case...no screen protector, no cleaning cloth, no fancy color brochure showing other products the company makes, nothing. In my opinion, $30 is a steep price to pay for a case so to see the case flopping around in it's box and no extras at all included with the case was kind of a let down.
Fit and finish:
When I first grabbed the case out of the box my very first thought was "oh boy, feels kinda slippery." I got the Garnet Red version, planned on getting the limited edition Gloss White when it becomes available...more on that later. The case is lined with a black felt material on the inside part of the back wall to protect the battery cover from getting scratched during installation/removal, might even add a little shock protection as well. Sliding the case on to the phone one thing I noticed is that the front edges do infact put a little pressure on the sides of the face of the phone, this is notable because those of you who have a wet application screen protector or other full face protection like the Moshi iVisor or any one of the curved full face protectors may have a little problem getting this care to play nicely with it. I think a wet application would be fine so long as it's fully cured before you go putting this case on and as long as you are careful when installing it...making sure it's not pulling up the protector as you go. The case slides on and locks in place to itself thanks to a little tab built in on it's inner wall on the back. Getting it off can be tricky, especially if you have an aftermarket, non-stock battery cover on like I found out. I highly advise not using the case with anything other than the stock battery cover. I had my white carbon fiber cover on which seemingly added no extra bulk but apparently the tiny little bit it did add made it next to impossible to remove the case. I ended up using brute strength to get it apart and luckily avoided causing any damage to it or it's locking mechanism. Putting the stock battery cover on made things much easier. Helpful hint, when trying to remove it, press down on the raised part in the back when squeezing the top part of the case on the sides.
With the case installed I noticed that the fit was so snug that there was no daylight at all between the face of the phone and the edge of the case, a good thing. The cutouts are all spot on but the bottom mic opening wasn't quite centered. There are no overlays over the buttons so they are easily accessible and engaged. Those openings are beveled/tapered to allow unobstructed access to the buttons...no need to tactically attempt to press the buttons, you just press them as you would normally as the case does not get in the way. The color I chose, Garnet Red, has a metallic sheen to it and is very easy on the eyes however it lacks grip. Holding the phone, it's not as bulky as I thought it would be, but it's not as easy to hold on to either. The finish is very slippery so make sure you have a firm grip on it. This is the first case I've had on this phone that requires you to stick your pinky out while you're holding the phone to ensure it doesn't slide down. Very disappointed. The design of the case does provide a front side lip, allowing you to set the phone face down with no worry of causing damage to the screen.
Final thought:
While the case looks nice, fits like a glove and allows easy access to all ports and buttons, it is very slippery to hold and can be a problem depending on what type of screen protector you're using. The locking mechanism is a nice touch but be aware if using an aftermarket, non-stock battery cover as it can make the case nearly impossible to remove. Am I going to order the limited edition Gloss White when it comes out? It'll surely have better grip but i'm not that in love with this case to say for sure.
I have the Seidio surface in blue and I do not find the case to be slippery it has a lot more grip than the stock battery door. The finish is a soft touch finish that does not show fingerprints.
Here are some photos and I have a full review up to.
from my AOKP galaxy s3
Grip is not a strong point of this case by any stretch of the imagination. It's coming off as soon as my TPU bumper arrives. The finish on this case is pretty much identical to that on the Incipio Silicrylic Dual Pro, the difference being the silicone sleeve which gives you the good grip. I like everything about this case except for the lack of grip and how it limits what screen protectors you can use with it.

Just trying to find "the one". The SGP Neo Hybrid is on my radar. Not really sure there's any others I really want to try out right now.
I have the platinum series which is pretty much this case with the holster. I have had it for my past three phones but am on the by bubble with this one. I have to agree that this case is more slippery then I remember my past cases to be. Because of that (and the fact that I dropped my OG Evo with his case on and the Efren shattered ) I am looking for another case. Thinking of getting an otterbox. Need something with good screen protection and a holster.
Does nfc work?

Because of that (and the fact that I dropped my OG Evo with his case on and the Efren shattered ) I am looking for another case. Thinking of getting an otterbox. Need something with good screen protection and a holster.

I was pretty disappointed with how slippery this thing is but i'm leaving it on until my TPU bumper and igadgitz clear tpu case show up...only other case I could see myself buying after this is the SGP Neo Hybrid.

Yes sir
Alright guys, today was my first day out in the wild with this case and I have discovered something......moist hands = good grip with this case! Normally my hands are dry, no sweaty palms for me....but its pretty warm out today and I wear nitrile gloves alot during the day which cause my hands to sweat badly. So after removing my gloves and patting them dry I picked up my phone to take a few pics and I noticed it wasnt sliding in my hand. Figuring it was the moist hand I was holding it with I turned on the AC to dry my hand completely and sure enough, the slipperyness was back.
So those of you with sweaty palms, this is your case!

Trident Aegis case review with lots of pictures!

As promised, here is my review of Trident Aegis case I just received - http://www.tridentcase.com/shop-products/aegis-case-samsung-galaxy-note-2-n7100.aspx
I usually start with a package, but in this case I want to start with a shipping box itself. Today every company is trying to distinguish themselves with some unique detail to set them apart. Typically you get your case package inside of bubble envelope, but in this case it came in a cartoon box with a really cool art That's my first picture below, I thought that detail was very unique. Package itself is very nice, typical of a premium case which sets it apart from cheap ebay stuff. In addition to the case, it also included a little guide with other Trident products and a nice screen protector/application card/cleaning cloth. I already have screen protector, so didn't bother with the one included, but it felt thicker than usual cheap stuff and also had dotted alignment lines on a cover film - a thoughtful touch. Website talks about included charm attachment - I didn't see it in my package, but the case has two small holes by micro-usb connector for something like lanyard attachment, captured in the picture as well.
The case itself is a single piece molded PC and TPE material. PC is very flexible, a lot more flexible than any of my other cases. TPE in comparison to a typical TPU is more elastic, thus last "E" stands for elastomer and feels softer and more rubbery. The plastic on the back is matte and not as slippery, kind of with lightly sandblasted finish, yet it has two shiny stripes along the sides. The case is very rounded off on the back, making it very easy to hold and giving it a nice grip. The whole combination of PC and rubber material, rounded design, and combination of two plastic finishes makes it very ergonomic to hold in your hand. I do want to mention that back is not flat so when you put it down on the flat surface there will be some wobble.if you like typing on a phone in that position. Trident symbol design in the middle also gives additional friction grip with a surface.
Inside of the case you will find elastic rubber lining all the way around with a honeycomb pattern and black "stitches" which indicate where rubber is molded to external PC shell. Definitely will serve as a good shock absorption if dropped. When you look at the picture of the case without a phone, you see its a little bent because of the flex of PC material. But once you insert the phone in the case, very nice tight fit, it straightens out and gives a phone nice slim profile. There is no doubt the case will stay on if dropped.
Headphone and micro-usb ports are covered, although I'm not too crazy about a little tab on the port cover, and also in my case I couldn't even close micro-usb port. I use my phone daily as GPS powered in the car, and usb port cover is just nuisance to constantly open/close. In this design, you can easily cut out port cover if you don't like it. I also thought mic port opening right next to micro-usb port was very small, and that could create an echo effect, but I couldn't confirm it yet since I haven't made any calls with this case one. The mic port next to headphone is a little bit wider, and I would have expected the same for the mic port at the bottom. No issues with s-pen and camera/led flash opening, also I wish there would have been a little more corner protection around lip next to s-pen. I really like the detail of dust filter mesh protecting speaker cover. That is very unique. Also, power/volume buttons are very responsive and you can feel the click - definitely a good design which I like. On the front, lip is a bit on a shallow side, but still gives a decent protection and should not be a problem when you put the phone down on the screen side. I also do have to mention that lip pulls quite easily around volume and micro-usb ports. There is also some pull of lip next to headphone, s-pen, and power button. Those are the areas where you have more elastic rubber material than PC support on the back. I don't believe it will compromise the protection offered by this case.
The case itself is offered in variety of different colors to suite both guys and girls. For my review I chose a blue one since I thought it will fit white phone the best and also offers better view of details on the back to contrast with black PC portion of it.
Ok, here comes the pictures!

Very nice!
Great pictures; I've always thought that a company should include pictures from its users to show off.

Well, you know I'm not doing this for a benefit of the company, but for the benefit of XDA-Developers forum users Company pictures usually have a few shots without much of the details. I'm the user who looks at it from a different perspective and know what we all are looking for in the case. So, I'm glad you guys can benefit from that and enjoy my write ups. I also try to be fair with my reviews, pointing both positive and negative sides. I personally don't believe there is such thing as a perfect case because we all have different expectations. I kind of hate when people just write one liners, I hate this case or it's the best without reasoning. That's why I'm trying to be as detailed as possible in my review, and whatever is missing in writing I compensate with pictures
If I get around, I might also start YT channel with short (under 5min) video reviews of every case I got. But it might take a little while.
I am kind of jealous of the speaker mesh cover... I hate dust.
Great review, thanks!
I had the chance to try this case out today at the Verizon store. It was nice and felt very sturdy. The only thing that seemed as if it could be a problem was that the flaps that covered the ports felt cheap and if I used them enough wouldn't close. Otherwise this felt like a decent case.
On a personal note however, I didn't like the design on the back.
Is there any type of holster available so I could put it on my belt?

Has yours started to blacken on the blue areas? I also have a blue version of this case and around edges where it rubs against things the blue is starting to turn black. I can't get it to clean back to blue either so im assuming it's not dirty.

Black is the best color imo
Glad someone is putting a review out there, not many ppl even mention it despite being an awesome case
I have one of these in black. I like it better then my Otterbox as it is MUCH slimmer.
I have this one along with the Commuter and the UAG. So far the Aegis is leading the pack slightly ahead of the UAG with the Commuter a distant third. I like everything about the Aegis except how the USB port cover is designed as it is too easily pulled out and sometimes awkward to get put back in properly.

I just cut it off so it would fit in the Smart Dock
I am considering getting some type of kickstand thing but not 100%, might just get a mini stand

Does the lip peel off when taking it out of jeans pocket? Does the TPE stick or rub against cloth the same way rubber does?
Thanks

Rubber bumper for Z3C (without front & back)

The Rhinoshield bumper being floated apparently was canceled due to lack of interest. Are there any other plain black rubber bumpers available? I have nice oleophobic screen protectors that I'm happy with and just want some padding/protection for the edges and to be able to set the phone face up or face down on a table softly. I don't want/need a case with a front and/or back on it, just the bumper. I guess any soft material (like silicone?) would be acceptable.
I have been searching for this for a while now. Gotten to the point where I am planning on making my own out of sugru or a substitute (don't get sugru in my country)
I use the Cruzerlite Bugdroid. It looks to me that it would be a good candidate for modifying into a rubber bumper. I think the back could be removed with a razor blade and the bumper that's left would maintain it's integrity.
Thanks for the DIY candidate suggestions. I was hoping to not have to DIY, but it looks like I'm not alone in not being able to find an off-the-shelf bumper. It just seems strange to me that an accessory so simple apparently does not exist.
PS: Forgot to mention that I need the magnetic charging port exposed, which narrows the field of possible candidates.
orzly fusion off amazon ..I was waiting on the rhinoshield ..been on with tech 21 also ..waiting on a reply .. ps I can charge in the case magnetic charger ..I am waiting on the kidigi mag charger ..
Yesterday read this thread and found something about Ringke Fusion gel case and ordered it, now i see that somebody said that it isn´t as good as it looks like . As I can see on the web it looks just as i wanted case to be so I hope I wan´t be disappointed. Waiting for the phone and already spent more than i expected on the extra accessories that i saw on this thread and thought that it might be useful .

Thanks, but the first one covers the magnetic charging port, no?
Seems like I'll need to find an otherwise acceptable bumper and do some surgery with an Xacto knife to expose the magnetic port. I had been hoping for a nice OOBE with a rubber bumper, but my hopes have dimmed.
I picked up the aluminum one... Looks sexy... Got red for my red phone. See how it does when it gets here

What are your thoughts on the aluminum cover? Feel protective for drops; work with charging dock?

Well i have been using it for the past week. Had to do some tinkering on the camera button. Was to sensitive at first but working now. Signal seems fine and the protection from drops seems like it would be pretty good. Feels decent in had as well. The charging dock works without and insert. The USB mag charger does not fit case but maybe the new version would.

Bought my aluminium one here for $5.71:
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6445316397.html?orderId=65411670055920
It looks nice and I'd like to use it, but I won't. It's bulky and a little loose, by one mm to be specific. 1 mm happens to be the difference in thickness between the Z1C and Z3C.
I'm pretty sure it's a re-purposed z1 compact bumper.
There was also a defect with mine. The lanyard cutout on the bottom had aluminum edges sticking inwards, as if they forgot to file it down after stamping out the hole.
I didn't notice before putting in my phone in for the first time and scratched its plastic edge. I fixed the cutout by using pliers to rip the shards off and the filed it down with some high grit sandpaper...
The Z1C doesn't have a lanyard hole in that spot, so I'm pretty sure they use old made-for-Z1C bumpers and just stamp out the lanyard cutout, which is why the defect was only on that cutout.
There's also very little padding between the aluminium and your phone, just a couple of very slim felt-like stickers. I doubt this bumper would offer much drop protection, and if it fell at a weird angle, the fact that it's loose, I wouldn't be surprised if it caused extra damage.
It makes the phone way bulkier than it needs to. It makes the phone even slippier to grip, if that's even possible. Too many design faults. The only thing it has going for it is it's kind of pretty (ignoring bulk) and the buttons work well (after loosening the camera button too though).
Would not recommend.
Also, the seller is being very difficult about a refund, especially considering they sent me a faulty unit that damaged my phone...
Wow this seller is dense...
ME: "Hello, I am not satisfied with this item. It has a major manufacturing flaw that should have been caught during quality control: The lanyard hole on the bottom of the case has sharp aluminium protruding inwards where the hole was stamped out. It should have been shaved down and smoothed out during manufacturing. Not only does the phone not fit inside the case, but It also scratched my phone as i was inserting it. I have attached a photo of the defect."

Wow! That is nuts. Hopefully it ends up working out for you; a full refund is the least they can do.
I had an aluminum bumper on my Note II... i wouldn't recommend it since I couldn't use the GPS with it. I had no GPS signal at all with the bumper...
I just contacted the rhino shield people and they say they are planning a z4 version. Maybe now that more people have the z3 compact, if enough people contact them, they may try again?
I had also purchased an Aluminium bumper last year when I bought my Z1C - but after a few days of use I removed it and found it had scratched the edges of the glass backing!! The bumper did not have any obvious sharp or rough surface - I think just fitting the case and possibly small flex movements may have led to the damaged edges.
I got a refund from the case seller - but my Z1C was still damaged!
I have just upgraded to Z3C and I know the resale value of my Z1C is going to be affected by the above damage.
So - anyone considering a Aluminium bumper - please be wary...
I have the elecom bumper for the xperia z3 compact so-02g, fits great and does what i need, the bad news is it does not have a cut out for the magnetic charger. other than that does a great job at protecting my phone. had the same bumper on my xperia z1 compact and phone is still like new.
one thing i would recommend if you have this bumper is to remove it every so often and clean the dust that can build up.
here's a link
