Stock clock app - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Slight problem here, I appear to have made a rookie error. I've uninstalled the stock 4.1.2 clock/alarm/stopwatch app without backing it up (I backed up all the rubbish apps and widgets but somehow missed this). I know, I know, I'm a plonker.
Has anyone got the apk, or know how I can get it? I've downloaded 3 versions of the firmware but cannot for the life of me extract anything from them. They're the tar.md5 files but I keep getting errors (tried winrar, 7zip and winimage on all of them which guides online suggest). On my old phone I managed to extract some stuff I wanted but this just isn't happening.
I know there's other apps on the market but the simplicity of the stock one was perfect and looked nice. Thanks.

Yeah thanks, I thought that but it seems a bit of a ball ache just for a clock. I've found another that does the job. I'll double check I've backed stuff in future, ha.

Brilliant, thanks! Do you know if the countdown should make a sound when it reaches zero? It doesn't for me, can't remember if it's meant to. I imagine it should do.

On the same page where you set the countdown, press the menu key to set the alert sound... not sure if it uses the notifications or alarm volume though

Has anyone found a way..

To port over the iPhone emoji? its getting a little lame not to have a universal emoji.. but surely if Handcent can do it the system should be able to..
Found THIS
Download, unzip, replace /system/fonts file of same name, reboot. It only covers about 70ish% of emoji. Better than 0%.
Nandroid Backup before flashing... you've been warned.
So it zips it into correct spot or do I have to by hand?

Unzip and physically put the file in the directory listed but nandroid first.
roger.. doing now. Thanks man.
Ok, hate to be an idiot here, but I was taught the only dumb question is one un-asked.. Astro will not move the files or replace.. seems maybe the system is using the font? If I can do this in recovery then I am unsure of how.. little help on the moving of said file and replacing?
Sorry man.. maybe I am missing something?

That is the system folder [internal memory] and astro can't access it, well write to it; you'd have to use root explorer to paste it there.

This. You must be rooted to have superuser permissions (access to write to the /system partition).
Use Root Explorer like roxxors said, give it SU permissions, navigate to your system/app folder, mount R/W at the top right (read/write) and then you can long press on items to delete or modify the apps and permissions.
Remember you have to mount R/W before you can edit, paste, move things into, or otherwise modify what's in /system
Its ok as long as you get it figured out.

Dude, that sucks man. I saw your post about it earlier and how someone said "Did you have a phone locator app?"
I've used locating apps in the past, but being a performance freak I try to keep my phone pretty barebones. Hearing your tale of sadness makes me wonder about reinstalling it.
Wouldn't do much use if the person who took it knows the first thing about Android. Not that I ever would but if I stole an EVO first thing I would do is turn of GPS and do Airplane Mode and either uninstall locating apps or do a factory reset.
But maybe someone found it on accident and it will be at the lost and found tomorrow?
Or maybe this is God's way of telling you to switch to the EVO 3D when it comes out!

Well me being the mini guru I am, keep my gps off when not in use, and had no locator apps, and called my mom to call sprint and deactivate it and but a bad esn on it [which they did]. Its rooted, with all the bells and whistles, so I don't expect to get it back, and like I said, its been deactivated...and have to use a "shudders" blackberry for like 10 days, til i get the replacement. And it may be...
well works mostly.. still a few I still cant see, but it seems to be working! Thanks guys.

[Q] MIUI Plus Mod

so this was posted today over on the miui forums and it looks to be pretty cool. its supposedly designed for SGS2, but he says it should work for all phones. but i asked how to apply it, and the guy just said ''recovery''. in the OP, he edited it to say "you must mount system, data and sdcard before you flash it". i still have NO idea what it means, and he didnt clarify after i asked... so i wanted to know if my XDA family can help me out? how would i do this?
http://forums.miuiandroid.com/showt...-wallpapers-themes-amp-more&p=78555#post78555
just flash it in recovery and see what happens?
sounds like he is pretty sure it will give an error, side note it looks like a lot of bloat to me>
ya but you can go right into the files and edit what you dont want. i too am afraid of the warning. and i just had to wipe my phone last night because of stupid apps2sd epic failure... for the second time... i dont feel like doing that AGAIN. ill probably do THAT in a couple days LOL. unless, of course, i get some help here...
screw it, I'll try .... nothing to lose + I'm at work and would rather get paid to play with my phone than actually work
my down load speeds suck here so will try when able

you get a thanks for your bravery, and quick response.
i do not see any changes, no apps, no keyboards, or widgets. not to say i know anything, all i did was flash it in RA recovery and it installed. oh well my great experiment is over for now.
my findings are that will install, but what and to where??

im off to bed now, but anxiously await your findings!
well i tried again and in RA you mount "system" "data" and "SD card"
then flash the ZIP
i now have a LG keyboard.
23 new wallpapers
the themes are in theme manager
the puzzle lock screen works
and a bunch of ring tones
i see no widgets:
-LG calender
-LG news
-LG clocks (A - L-O-T) -
-LG weather clock
-LG world clock
-LG Today schedule
-LG Today schedule + Weather
-TypoCLock
OK I do believe this to be kinda cool..this will only work on MIUI 1.7.29 from what the op says
So then, it's basically useless, since 1,8,5 comes out today, which will have a whole new framework
I dont know, just fun to kill time with.
Maybe nothing below 1.7.29 We all know bigger is better

[Q] Can the line above the dock be removed?

Is there anyway to remove the white line that is just above the dock in the stock ICS launcher?
I'm running my SGN LTE with a rooted stock 4.02 and would really love to see it gone. I don't really mind the blue line that appears briefly when you swipe to a different homescreen.
Any suggestions?

Wow! Cool! First off, thanks.
Second off, I realize your post means I should go into the launcher apk on my phone and alter (remove?) the hotseat_track_holo.9 file... not sure exactly how to do that, could you point me in the right direction so I could read up on that?
Thanks again.
Apk files are just like zip files I have not done it myself often but just unpack it or change the file extension to zip and unpack it and look for that file maybe

Hey thanks a lot for your efforts.
When you say open up a ROM, do you mean this package can only be installed into a new ROM before being flashed?

Before flashing you can add it into the ROM yes.
Or you can just flash it.
So I tried to just take out the gallery and contacts apk's and install them on the device. The gallery worked fine but the contacts says "there's already a package with the same name already exists" or something similar.
If do this by flashing the zip will it overwrite the existing do you think?
Thanks again

What I was saying is.
Delete the same names .apk's in the /system/app folder.
Then just drag and drop the following /apps in my folder into the ROM then flash the ROM.
Aha, got ya. My only worry with flashing is losing what I've done so far as it's taken ages to customise all the sounds, icon positions etc. It's currently in a state of pure zen
Something tells me though, you're about to say "use <some tool> to back up first". in which case, will it remember where all my launcher folders, icons and sounds?

I'm not sure on that one haha.
Well thanks anyways, I now have the standard gallery. Only the contacts/dialler remain. Which actually isn't too bad, except the way the Favourites and Contacts tabs swap position when you click on Contacts. What idiot did that!!

Ah!
When I get the phone I'll be working on a pure AOSP clone.
That would be fab, though there are some really nice things about this ROM, which I'm hoping will be installable since Samsung released the source of the ROM. The things I'd like to keep are:
Water unlock and quick shortcuts to phone/camera/browser
Smart alert - phone vibrates when you pick it up if you have notifications
Smart stay - tries to detect eyes just before screen timeout to keep screen on
Turn over to mute/pause (when someone rings or playing music)
Direct Call - Move phone to ear when on sms/contact and it auto dials
Power control in the notifications (better than any I've seen)
Power saving mode (toggles cpu/haptic/etc)
Scan with side of hand to take screen shot
Anyways, look forward to you getting one, both for your sake and mine
I'll be keeping the Stock Samsung ROM w/ AOSP look/apps.
thanks for this. is it possible to get the stock dialer?

Did you remove the other types?
Like I said earlier in the OP?
Great work mate!!
I didn't install via recovery but renaming the Samsung apps with a .bak extension and rebooting gave me the standard apps.
The apps you provided are already in /system/apps but you need to get rid of the Samsung ones first (as you said) in order to activate them.
Only thing I'm missing is the phone application would be great if you could upload that??

[Q] Touchwiz on HTC?

I know you can flash a rom to get touchwiz, but is it stable and working good on this device? Also, is there a way to get Touchwiz without flashing a rom?
I am also having a problem with my OTA update screaming every four hours, I did the file explorer but I am not 100 percent sure which files to do what with if someone could help with that as well? Thanks so much!!

First off there is no TouchWiz based ROM for this device. As for the launcher you can find many TouchWiz themed launchers in the Play Store you've just gotta do a bit of searching. And for you last problem I couldn't quite understand you there, maybe you could elaborate it a little.
What I mean is my notification update is screaming every four hours for me to update it. I have a file explorer but I done know which file to move so it will shut up. Is that clear enough? Not sure what else I can say, I have looked it up but I can't figure out which file.
OMG, I spend hours removing anything resembling TouchWiz and someone actually wants it.

No need to remove files. just pull the notification bar, hold your finger on the software update warning until the info button pops out. then in the info page of the app, hit force stop. you may need to do it every time you reboot but it sure beats looking at the annoying message all the time
Thanks soooooo freaking much!!!! We have been hitting the every four hours thing for a month now. Yeah I just like the looks of TouchWiz, I am not fond of Sense at all. I like the LG ui pretty good, does any flashable roms look like either LG or Samsung ui?
