I9195 Boot Loop Cyanogenmod - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have tried to install a few different versions of the arco68 cyanogenmod Rom but cant get it to boot. I factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik each time and follow all the other instructions but have had no luck. previously i had the same problem with a htc pyramid but changing the recovery fixed the issue. Any ideas?
Thanks

and here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2403666
I have went through both processes at least three times and tried multiple nightlies and RCs, not sure what to try next?
I have made sure that i use the odin and cwm version that is mentioned in the tutorial.

Wipe data and cache

Hi there.
You know.. when we trying to flash ROMs using ROM Manager, they will pop-up whether we want to wipe data and cache and/or back-up the current ROM? Lol.
I am trying to manually flash ROMs and need to full wipe and cache.
But which option is that in the recovery mode that represent this "wipe data and cache"? There are few "wipe"s in the recovery mode which is:
1) wipe data/factory reset
2) wipe cache partition
3) wipe dalvik cache
Which one is that? Thanks ya. x)
Wipe data and cache will be options 1 & 2 but you should always do all three (IIRC Dalvik Cache is the sd-ext partition) whenever you change ROM's and sometimes upgrading (but check with ROM creator on this each time).
Hi Mr_JMM, we meet again. xD
Ok, so basically it is all the three options I have to do in order to "full" wipe data and cache. THanks again Mr_JMM. =)
Check your other thread for full wipe & easy upgrade tools. Are flashable zips that do the lot for you.

Yes but since all major ROM flashes should be proceeded by a Nand Backup and the OP states this is being done from recovery, I would say it's better (easier) and more confidence inspiring to just do the lot from Recovery in one go.
Sorry, post was directed for superstick1.
Obviously .... as it is a flashable zip........ it will be done in recovery prior to ROM.

Yes, I know who you (UpInTheAir) were directing the post at. I was just adding my 2c.
My bad, was just my opinion and personal preference. As with many things, I say try all options and see what works best.
Try to download the file FULLWIPE 1.3.zip.
Copy and paste it in the SD root.
Open Rom Manager and enter in recovery mode. CWM.
Than choose instal zip from SD card and install it.
After that it will full wipe your phone and in the same screen tap on reboot now.
Just all. Nothing difficult. It too simple..
Err, check a few posts above buddy. ;-)

but, i believe that it´s not necessary to flash anything... simply do the wipes that the CWM has... and in adition if you want do the "formats" (in mounts and storage paragraph if i don´t forgot the location....)..
PD: i like your avatar sgroimax hahahha (written by a linux lover)....

No its not necessary to use the zip........ only easier. You only have to install zip from sdcard, that's it. Once you have it on there, much FASTER and convienent, particularly if you flash regularly. Don't have to format each partition manually.
I'm all for easier, faster, convienent. ;-)

@upintheair
So the flashed zip does everything automatically, you don't have to tell it what to wipe?
How does it know when to wipe data and more importantly, when NOT to wipe data?

That's fine for you to point out pros but I believe people should know both sides.
Having to flash a file from SD card everytime I want to change from full wipe to partial or vice versa is a pain in the a**e.
For me personally it is quicker and easier to select 2 options that takes seconds to do instead of the chore of flashing a file everytime.
Also, that thread has to be the worst one I've ever seen for people not bothering to read before posting!

Getting a little off topic here:
If you read my first post in this thread, I had directed the OP to another of his threads where I had posted the link (or information on how to find it), so by doing so provided all information, so he could make his own mind up.
FACT: Flashing those partitions requires more steps (ie.button pressing etc) than doing it manually (within cwm 2.5.1.3), I just checked , also there is no delay between formatting the partitions, so it is fasterrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Anyway, we are all entitled to our opinionn, and it does foster better ideas and ways of doing things. The OP has stated to me he ended up using the zip and has his preferred ROM flashed again with no issues. So this method worked for him. Cheers
wow did not check my post for few days and have loads of replies.
Erm.. it is just another way of doing the wiping those data and cache. So I guess it is just based on personal preferences. Lol. If you're a frequent flasher, you can use the tool, else might just do it manually.

[Q] com.htc.skinpicker stops working unexpectedly

Hi,
I just rooted my HTC Desire HD, and installed a custom ROM (Android Revolution HD 6.3.2). After starting up the phone, I tried to change the skin on the phone (I don't like the original skin) but every time I press the Skin-button (Personalize -> Skin) I get the error message; Sorry! The application Skin Picker (process com.htc.skinpicker) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Any idea of how to fix this?
thank you in advance.
You can try fixing the permissions. If you have 4ext recovery I believe it has an option or you can download rom manager. Either one might fix it.

Thx..

no you shouldn't because sometimes problem happens from restoring files with titanium and also not full wipe when installing the ROM or maybe bad flash...
Did u full wipe before install or checked the MD5 SUM of the rom?because few weeks ago i just installed 6.3.2 without any probs with it

I don't think I did a full wipe ... that might be it.. I just followed what was said in this tutorial http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/ and renamed the zip "update.zip" and went into recovery mode -> install update from SDcard -> install update.zip.
... I hope there is another way than wipe it ... don't want to loose all my contacts...

[Q] Steps before installing custom rom.

I'm on stock rom baseband DXLC1 fresh from factory.
I'm confused which step comes first & next to do before steps like :
Extract the file into SD Card
Do restore via CWM with this step :
MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY LIFE (80%-100%)
MAKE A FULLY BACKUP FOR ALL OF YOUR DATA
MAKE SURE YOU COPIED THE BLACK NOTES FILE IN YOUR PRIMARY SD (avoid the Bad SD, and bad swapped configuration)
DO FULL WIPE TO YOUR DEVICE 2x (flashing newer stock before is recommended)
DO RESTORE VIA CWM SELECT RESTORE DATA
REBOOT
DONE
do i have to do first? root>flash rom?>flash firmware?>recovery?>flash kernal?
i'm going for [ROM] Black Notes Hybrid 2nd Gen so what to do from scratch...hmm..
Thanks in advanced
For Hybrid2 do restore n not restore data after you have wipe n clear cache n delvik.

In philz go under wipe cache partition and select yes.Go back to main menu and click on advanced and click on wipe dalvik cache. Now reboot your phone and see if it goes past the boot screen. If still doesn't succeed then go to wipe data/factory reset(will wipe the internal phone memory,so will lose everything) and you need to reflash your stock rom via odin(if downloaded from sammobile) and re root your phone. or if it's a flashable zip file you can reflash it via philz recovery.
