[Q] ActiveDisplay - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I tried two different roms that had ChaOS' ActiveDisplay on them (Carbon and DirtyUnicorn). After enabling it on both of them, every time I get a notification, i get it on the ActiveDisplay perfectly fine, but first, when I go to open the notification, it just brings me to the slide lockscreen, and i have to go through that to actually have it work. Is there any way to keep that from happening? When using the app DynamicNotifications, I had needed to enable it as an admin so that that sort of thing wouldnt happen, but nothing related to ActiveDisplay shows up there.
Secondly, as soon as the screen turns off from the notification, the notification goes away. I don't know if that's just how this implementation works, but I was under the impression (again from DynamicNotifications) that it was supposed to essentially replace the lockscreen and whenever I turned on the screen, it should show me any notifications if there were any. So is this how its supposed to work? or am I expecting the wrong thing?
I moved away from DynamicNotifications because it started being very buggy and laggy recently and from looking at ChaOS' video of it, it looked like it was pretty much a better implementation.

SMS notifications

HI everyone...
Got a bit of an odd one here, hoping someone can help.
For some reason, when the screen on my Sprint S6 is off, any SMS notifications get cut off (or I don't get them at all). I am expecting both an audio and/or vibration notification. If I turn my screen on, I will get the full notification as expected.
I thought maybe this was a problem with the DOZE settings, but I disabled YAATA from Battery Optimization, and it didn't fix anything.
Then I thought maybe it was a YAATA problem, so I went back to the standard built-in SMS app. Same results... either a cut-off, or no, notification when the screen is off, and a full notification when the screen is on.
Anyone have any suggestions on something else I could look at?
(For the record, I'm running stock, non-rooted Sprint S6...)
Much appreciated!
OK, after this has bothered me for MONTHS... I post here, and then figure it out.
I also have Glimpse Notifications installed on my phone. I just opened the app, and saw the following:
"Android Marshmallow sometimes cuts off notification sounds when the display turns on. In this case select Delay Screen On in the Extras menu."
... which, oddly enough fixed it.
I'll leave this here rather than delete it in case it helps others in the future.

Hiding persistent notifications (eg: Qualcomm aptX)

Has something changed with Oreo, or is this something OxygenOS does? I can't find an option to hide this. Anytime I have my bluetooth headset on (pretty much all day), the Qualcomm aptX thing shows up. It's even more frustrating as my brain keeps seeing the "X" in the notifications area as an error or something that really needs to be closed (bad marketing!).
I can hide the "notification dot" (no idea what that is), but that seems to have no visible effect. I want the whole thing gone, like I could do in Android M/N. Any ideas how?
Until someone comes with a better solution, you should be able to hide the icon from the statusbar by changing the priority in the Categories from medium to low.
Unfortunately, that option is grayed out.
**EDIT**
Figured out I had to tap the words, not the toggle. I was able to set it to "low", but it's still there. Googling finds a lot of people very irritated by it. Looks like it's been retroactively added to the OP3, also.

How to Disable Screen Wake for Ring app

Hey all, my ring doorbell app wakes the screen anytime I get an alert. I want to keep the notifications on but don't want the screen to wake. It wakes even in my pocket which I want to of course avoid. It may just be a bug in the app but I should be able to limit that from happening. Or so I hope anyway.
I have tried the following.
1. Switched all notifications pertaining to the app and individual cameras to "sound only"
2. In the app I have disabled "alerts open full screen video"
3. I have disabled heads up notifications globally through ADB.
4. Disabled ambient display.
5. Disabled notifications on lock screen.
I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any ideas are appreciated at this point.
TIA

I've struggled with the same thing for months. It never used to do it, but after an update earlier this year it became the new normal for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully somebody chimes in with some sort of work around.
I'm having the same problem with a Sony XZ1 phone (Android 8.0.0). I spoke with Ring at length and it's 'apparently' a problem with my phone, not their App.
I think that's a load of rubbish and something they need to address and fix. I installed the App on another Android phone running an earlier version of software, the App installs with different options and doesn't wake up the screen. So it's obviously dependent on the OS version but as other Apps don't have the same problem I can only conclude that it's an issue with the Ring App.
Has anyone tried uninstalling the app and then install an older version from APK mirror? Not even sure its on there but it's worth a go

That's a great idea. There are plenty of versions to try on APK mirror, one or two per month from 2018. Not a good sign for a reliable and stable app.
I'll give it a go later unless anyone gets there first and can suggest a 'good' version to try
Were you able to find an older version that doesn't have the screen wake behavior?
edit: Pixel 2 - going back to 2.0.66.8 still has the screen wake behavior regardless of notification setting.
edit 2: 2.0.57.2 does the same thing...
Looks like the latest ring version finally let's you fix this. Select your devices, go to notification settings, then select sound only. The default is sound plus pop up. I no longer have the issue after making the change.
Can anyone confirm if turning off the 'plus pop' in the ring app settings works? I have a new pixel 3 on Android pie and the app is still turning on the screen at every alert event with settings set to just sound or just silent.
I'm having the same issue with the ring app. It wakes the screen. Really sucks when phone is in my pocket. I have tried every option and or combo of options. I have a pixel 3a on Android 10. Android 10 does have a option to wake screen for notifications found under display advanced, lock screen. But it is turned off
Still a problem on Android 10, No combinations of settings has been able to stop this for me. Of course Ring denies this even though I have sent a logcat to them.

Annoying Slide to Unlock with ads

I have recently bought A50 in India, for very few hours it is quite a wonderful experience but after a few updates, it has become very annoying. I am using pin lock and FP as my security option along Always on Display.
whenever i am trying to unlock the cell, Slide to Unlock option automatically comes up with annoying advertisements. max time it comes once i pick the phone, i have to slide to get fingerprint option or post FP it comes automatically and many times it leads to open up playstore due to touch on the ad.
Is there any option to shut it off? i have tried thru no secutiry setting and all but it keep exists.
Thanks very much
Im not sure what you're talking about but I'm guessing is it lockscreen stories?? If yes you can turn it off from here
You cannot turn it off but set a new wallpaper and then
I also do not have any idea from where these coming, this is very annoying.
i am attaching the two scsht of lock screen and settings. by the way, while taking scsht it comes with an extension name as daily fit.
i am thinking it is something related to One UI.
Update:
Issue identified and solved. This is not related to One UI or updates. there is an app "Daily Fit" which automatically got downloaded via Galaxy App. while taking the screenshot, i found "DailyFit" is mentioned as like "Settings". have uninstalled the app and it is working properly without "Slide to Unlock" screen with annoying ads.
Thanks very much for your quick replies

Notifications dont pop up while phone is on screen off/locked

Most of all notifications dont work or pop up unless i bring phone from lock or screen off. i have looked into alot of things but still it doesnt work right and with this issue even the tile doesnt work. i think gmail and phone and texts but thats about it. also im not sure if its due to pie or these newer phones.
Do you mean, when a notification comes in, the screen stays off and does not show the notification pop-up? Like what Apple iOS or BlackBerry 10 does?
Do you still hear the notification sound (if you have one set)?
Does the notification LED at least blink (again, if it's set for that)?
By design, Android doesn't turn the screen on. Not sure if it ever woke the screen up for notifications. Maybe some OEM UIs did that, but Samsung doesn't.
Look up "Glimpse Notifications" in the Play Store. That's what I use on my S9. Works great. Also have it on my Fire HD8 tablet.
Nah it's like as if the app isn't running in the background or just doesn't give notifications while screen is off specially with like discord but with tile works with phone unlocked but with screen off.
Okay. That's something I'm not familiar with. Someone else will have to chime in.

I have the exact same problem.
I have to press the power button to see and hear the notification.
