I messed up my G PRO E988, i would like to restore back to stock ROM, understand that to enter Download Mode, press and hold Vol up + Vol down button and connect usb cable to PC, the screen should appear Down Load mode, i tried before. However, it nothing happens this time, and i notice that the the phone is on, the LED at home button keep chaing color. i tried 3 pc, two running win 8 and one running win 7.
What should i do?
P/S: Apology for my broken english.
Turn your phone off. Then try vol+/-, and USB plug.

I had the same problem a few days ago. It's a real PITA.
I had to take out the battery and then put it back in with buttons held, connect usb.
That worked for me, but I needed six hands to do it.
As much as I love the design, I have to admit that the software/lack of developer support, the funky bootloader and lack of good recovery, etc. are giving me pause and starting to make me wish I could get my hands on the Oppon N1. I doubt I could stand anything smaller than the G Pro. I'm spoiled by the big screen so much that even 4.8 inches seems like an iPhone.

Thanks! I got to try later when I'm home. Indeed, too much love of the gorgeous 5.5" screen. Holding my old S3 and feel kinda weird.

funny, this can easily be done by:
with the phone off (remove battery if needed, and put it back in)
hold both volume up and volume down at the same time with your thumb (in the middle of the rocker), and then plug in the USB cable (while still holding the vUP+vDN). This is how I have always done it.
I personally, would never spend money on something that can be done natively without a silly little dongle.
The most useful one thought is:
holding the vUP + power button at the same time, for 5 seconds
this will force a reboot, even if your phone is locked up, in download mode, in recovery mode, etc.
THIS has saved me a couple of times... and it keeps you from having to remove the battery.
Once you get good at it, you can reset this way, and quickly hold both volume buttons, and insert the USB cable, and roll right into download mode again...
Those dongles are nothing special, other than shorting out custom pins that do the same thing as the vUP+vDN+insertUSB, once you master the hold, it's very easy to do. I wouldn't waste your money. IMHO.
I would rather spend the money on a good screen protector or body glove case...

You must not realize that a whole bunch of Captivates do not have the button combo functions enabled. Mine has soft bricked many times and none of the button tricks work at all. For those of us that have these Captivates, we couldn't flash very much without the jig. I made mine about four months ago and it is priceless.

Mine is a build 10.08 and I do not have the button combos either - at least with stock eclair 2.1 If i flash a custom rom depending on which rom i flash, I may or may not have the button fix enabled.... I just plug in my usb after rooting with z4root and using the 'reboot download' command from adb shell, I also have a homemade jig that i've had to use once....

For $8 (found on Ebay) this is cheap insurance for those of us who like to flash their Cappy often, or who just like to tinker around with it and push it to its limits. I didn't hesitate to buy it.
USB Jigs are a lifesaver.
Dont ever want to go here but if i do, awesome!
Some Newer Captivates DO Have 3-button Feature
Not trying to start anything-- I'm just saying I have a 1012 Captivate and 3-button combo has worked from the beginning, through about 6 or 7 flashes, and is working still today.

"free stuff"??
I just purchased an A100 and was wondering if anyone else has the same problems I am having. Also any ideas would be appreciated.
I can't wake the tablet when it goes to standby> I press the power button and nothing happens. If I hold the power button long enough it will reboot. The other issue is with the wifi. At home it works ok, but at work it is another matter. It sees and can connect to the router just fine. When I try to go to the internet it tells me that there is no internet connection. I noticed that there was a little arrow in the wifi icon when this happens. I tried a reset to factory defaults, but no go. The sleep problem is unchanged, and now it will not connect to the work router at all.
Jim
I had the sleep problem wen I first got it but now its gone. But never had wifi issues. Just exchange for a new one.
I have the same standby problem. On top of that I noticed that there are some glitches.
When the unit is fully off and I try to turn it on by pressing the power button down for a couple seconds the blue light turns on but no vibration and nothing shows on the screen. I have hold the power button down til the blue light turns off then press it again and hold it down until it vibrates and thats when it turns on. I also tried grabbing the stock rom (made sure it was decrypted and put on both the root of the internal and external sd) and tried to recover it but all I get is a android exclamation mark no matter what I do.
Sometimes you just need to give it sometime to wake up... Because if you press the power button multiple times, it would not be responsive!

How long? Does your screen stay black while you are waiting?
yes. If it is unresponsive when pushing the power button (but you know the device is on), just wait for 30 seconds and try pushing the power button again.
On mine after i hit the power button the screen wont turn on for good 3 seconds. If I press the power again before that 3 seconds I essentially turn it back off so the screen never turns on. Till I press it again and wait 3 seconds for it to visually turn on.
Well, I took it back for an exchage and Microcenter was out of stock. I got a refund and headed over to Best Buy. Not much luck there, they are sold out in all stores, and online.
Have you tried fry's.com or gamestop.com?

I tried the Kindle Fire, and I did not care for it. The screen did not always respond to touches and I do not like the carousel. I also did like the lack of buttons on it, and it was heavy compared to other 7" tablets. I took it back and started looking for another tablet. I found the A100 in Walmart today and bought it. This one works a lot better than the first one, it wakes up from standby just fine. These Acer tabs(A100 and A500) are selling out everywhere it seems. I think they are priced right and are a very good value.

Battery Indicator gets stuck...
Does anyone else have a problem with the Battery Indicator freezing while charging. It happens every time I plug in. Earlier today I plugged in at 11% an hour later the battery indicator (both on the lock screen and the settings popup) said 11%. As soon as I unplugged it changed to 76%. When I plugged in an let it charge again it stuck at 76%.
Anyone else have this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
The only things I changed system wise is: I froze Acer Content Folders, Acer Registration, AUPEO!, clear.fi, Facebook Web, and MusicA. And thats it!
I am having the same issue with my a100 not waking up. I sent it to Acer and they reloaded android, but the issue still exists...even after a factory reset with no apps installed other than stock.
The battery life was utter crap when I got this...but after 4 charge cycles...its much better.

It really sucks especially when im downloading a big file. Ivw tried wifi lock but it still loses signal. I usually just use the acer when im in my bedroom and our router is about 15 feet away. its very frustrating but dont know what else to do. also i cant believe how bad the battery life is! its not to big of a problem since i dont plan on taking it out of the house but man, why would acer make the battery smaller than most new cellphones?

Yes, I believe it responds differently depending on which side you press it from. If your finger is coming from the back of the phone and is not sufficiently strong, it sometimes does not register a press (my guss is because it is sloped). But whenever I do a direct strong press, it always responds.

It's possible that the drop could of broke it as you could of cracked the housing for the button slightly and continued use of the button over time the crack got bigger and pushed the button further in the phone, by dropping it you may of reduced the fair wear and tear of the phone.

just thought i would mention that i became concerned about basic wear and tear on my power button eventually destroying it, so i tried an app called ultimate on off in the play store. it actually works pretty well, but of course if you want to do a reset or take a screenshot, you do have to use the power button. otherwise, i don't touch that button any more.
after posting about the screen unlock issue. my one x developed massive screen flicker issues screen was hoping all over the place and it was almost like it looked dissovled in places. its gone back to repair,. just hop htc dnt c the little mark and refuse me, although the vodafone paperwork says in perfect condition!!!
Hey dan, it sounds exactly like the problem I've had with my HOX. At first the unlock button did not always respond and then the UI started acting up, flying all over the screen and distort and stuff and finally it just didnt turn on at all anymore.
They HTC lady I contacted said it was hardware related and I highly doubt it has anything to do with you dropping the phone once.

when it happened to me, to ensure it wasn't the power/lock button, I installed a kernel with sweep to wake, and when I tried sweeping to wake, the problem repeated itself.
maybe you guys could try that to differentiate between a problem in the display or the actual button. That is...if you're rooted.
Otherwise, you might as well take it to the repair
so apparently vodafone have "exchanged" my phone whether that means new or refurb time will tell!!
Hi, Everyone! This is my first post on here but I have spent the better part of the last week reading all the different threads. Yesterday my Samsung Epic 4G decided to go a little insane on me. It was working eprfectly fine (especially for a 2 year old phone) when all of a sudden my power button seemed to start cyling and the power off screen kept popping up and the volume keys did the same. I turned the phone off and even tried taking the battery out and giving it a rest but the problem persisted.
Another issue was that some of the numbers no longer worked correctly. The even numbers both on the touch screen and keypad would dial
"2468" instead of the corresponding number; very weird! The phone had never been rooted or modded at all. Well I was able to get into the phone after figuring out a way to input my passcode with the faulty numbers and I performed a hard reset. The phone is back to completely stock but the power button and camera button do nothing. The volume up button works well but the volume down (besides lowring the volume) button causes google search to pop up and then a bunch of letters and numbers to be typed in both the google search bar and in the message of box of the last person I texted. I can still use the phone by opening the key pad to wake the screen up and I can text and call fine as long as I don't touch the Volume Down button. Also, battery life is ridicolously low. I am up for upgrade but don;t really feel like upgrading to the S3 just yet. Sorry for the long post. I know it is against forum policy but I wanted to get the whole story out there. So here is what I am looking to do:
I want to root the phone and install one of the roms to maybe eek out a couple more weeks out of it. Again it works ok now, just the sliding out of the keypad and lack of power button sucks. The phone boots up if I take the battery out and put it back in wihtout touching the power button.
I have read up on Odin and that looks somewhat straightforward. Just trying to see what you think is my best course of action. Again, I do not have a power button working or camera button and a faulty Volume Down Button. Maybe I can do the whole slip in the battery while holding "1" to get it into download mode? This will be my first time rooting a phone so any help is great and appreciated. Thanks and again, sorry for the really long post!
I forgot to mention that the phone is currently running on Gingerbread 2.3.6. This may or may not make it more difficult to root.

was thinking this as well
It actually got wet about 1.5 years. I threw it in rice for about a week and never had any issues. The phone has never frozen or had issues the past year and a half. Yesterday it was in the kitchen charging (with a samsung charger but not one for this phone specifically) and it started doing the whole power button/power off screen flashing. I was able to get it in download mode earlier today but i don't know about recovery mode since the power button is dead. Maybe I should root it to see if its a hardware issue?
Edit: I forgot to mention that the phone gets really really hot while charging as well in the area above the battery. Hopefully nothing short-circuited.
It could take a while before the corrosin gets bad enough to affect your phone. I dropped a phone in the toilet once, and it was over 2 years before it crapped out. Took it apart and it looked like an old Chevy wheel well inside.

So I left the phone alone for a couple days with the battery out. I go to turn it on today and it worked perfectly. Then after about 5 minutes the power button stopped working again, but everything else is ok. No random letters and numbers and the volume buttons work as well. Now, I'm kind of lost as to what to do. I do have a parts phone, same one as this. Maybe I need to replace the power button? It clicks and everything and even worked for a couple minutes but now is non-functional again.
Is the power button hard to press for anyone else? I have to press it kind of hard and to get the correct angle at it when compared to my 2012 N7
I'm finding that to be the case as well. I'm thinking we'll get used to it as we start using the devices more.

I find that it helps if you "pinch" the side of the tablet with your thumb and forefinger. Since the button is angled back at 45 degrees, it needs to be pushed both forward (toward you) and left. Bracing your thumb on the front of the device (bezel) will help your index finger pull at this angle. But yeah even then it is finicky. Helps to make sure you push the button in the center exactly. A little too high or low and it doesn't click as well.

Same here. I put my thumb on the side of the display and my index finger on the power button and kinda push them together.

On my s4 you have to press from side at 90 degree ' where as on nexus 7 its kind of at 45 degree may be that's why it little weird . but its not a big deal , it will take few days to get use to it .

I'm surprised there is so little complaints of this design. It is one of my biggest issues with the new N7 - you pretty much have to pickup the tablet to press the volume or power buttons when it is laying on the table.
