I'm trying to root/flash custom ROM for my Optimus G (Rogers) and I'm very worried since this device is very expensive.
Is our device 'code' name lg "Geeb"? If it is, does it mean that I can go download and flash all the roms that supports "Geeb devices"?
Also if I unlock bootloader, and want to get warranty service from LG, I understand that I gotta flash original kdz file for my phone.
Does flashing KDZ file relock the bootloader and remove root? (so like factory stock reset?) or does the bootloader stay unlocked?
Thank you.

If ur device is named as Geeb, then yu can flash all the roms for geeb...but yu need to have rooted & bootloader unlocked..
Yes flashing KDZ will remove root and lock the bootloader and by doing hard reset yu ll get factory stock...

hi guys .I have a V500,and I had flashed the TWRP on my device. And then I flashed a custom rom such as cm11. But ,in my opinion ,many phones flash roms must unlock the bootloader first . and then flash the recovery etc. But why our v500 don't have to unlcok the bootloader ?
Does LG provide the offical bootloader unlock service? Thanks.

Lg make their devices with locked bootloaders in contrary to asus nexus for example who allow you very easily to unlock the bootloader. Developers use a hack named loki to bypass the bootloader and allow us to flash custom roms and recoveries. Thats why you see a message if you re on a custom rom everytime you open your tablet, it means that loki is working fine at that moment. If we had unlocked bootloaders we wouldnt see that message as there would be no need for loki.

Installation Steps (Warranty can be restored whenever you wish)
-------------------------
Before starting your rom flashing journey it is always better to have Flashtool (latest -by androxyde) installed in your PC and your stock rom handy ; incase of any mishappenings.
Type *#*#7378423#*#* in your phone and see if your bootloader status is unlockable under service-->Configuration. Procede with below steps, only if your device is unlockable.
It is important that you follow the steps in order
1) First step for installing a custom rom over a mobile with stock rom is to backup the existing state of bootloader .Usually warranty will get void if any modification is done to bootloader. The below tool ensures that it takes the backup of existing state of bootloader when device is under warranty.
Goto
Backup TA for Sony Xperia (This tool helps you to have a )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598.
Download the tool. This tool will backup your DRM Securtiy keys . Successful backup can only be taken after the existing stock rom is rooted (Use towelroot application if your device is not already rooted) .Root it first then follow the process given in above link .
Once this is over , u will have a backup of the existing state of bootloader/TA partition (If you later wish to move back to stock rom from custom rom use the same tool to restore the backup you have just created.This means you will get your Warranty back);
2) Goto this website , follow the steps and get your unlock code via e mail.
Use fastboot mode to unlock your bootloader (Make sure that you have already backuped your existing DRM keys-Step 1).Follow it fully to unlock your bootloader
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/unlock/step1
3)Download any custom rom zips with recovery, for your mobile from xda developers forum and have fun.Extract boot.img using winrar or winzip .
Flash boot.img via fastboot mode
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
4)As the device reboots, when you see your LED glow press volume up or down. It will take you to CWM Recovery or TWRP recovery based on the rom that you have downloaded.
5)Just install the custom rom(*.zip ) from within the recovery.
What if that i already have the custom recovery?
So, just wipe data, dalvik, and cache, then flash the zip?
That's it?

Absolutely right. But before installing an custom rom in the first place i hope you have already backed up your DRM keys for warranty purpose(as mentioned in the guide) since if you unlock your bootloader without backing up your DRM keys, DRM keys might be lost forever .

Sure. Easiest way to do it is by using an app called, 'Titanium Backup Pro'.But you have to root your stock rom first for this application to run(Use towelroot if you are yet to root).Except for sony proprietary apps like walkman,Album, etc (will run only on stock rom as they use sony developed system libraries/API'S) other apps will get restored/run fine on a custom rom.

its in the OP....on the phones dialpad, type: *#*#7378423#*#*
then look in > service > configuration
it should show the status as "bootloader locked", "bootloader unlocked", "bootloader unlockable" or "not unlockable" (sorry wording may not be exact, but you'll get the idea)

no.. i mean, how to know if my bootloader is already unlocked or not?
Anyway, what happened if i flash it without unlocking it first?
Sorry, did you type that in the phone and check the status? That's where it will tell you if its already unlocked or if its even unlockable at all.
Do not try to install a custom ROM on your phone if it is not unlocked! Your phone will not boot.

Thanks to @ foomanjackel for answering your questions.Regarding your 2nd question, 'Experience is the mother of invention'.Why don't you try and see what happens...just kidding.Couldn't resist it. Practically speaking of you install a custom rom with an custom kernel on a locked bootloader you will hard brick it.It will not boot and chances are that you might not be able to goto flashmode or fastbootmode anymoreto repair it.Reason this happens is that both your recovery and bootloader resides in the same partition in your mobile. If you try to install custom kernel on a locked bootloader in every probability, it not only corrupts your existing stocks kernel but also might corrupt your recovery leaving u helpless.
Theoretically, You should be able to install any custom-stock based rom on a locked bootloader (which runs exactly on ur stock kernel). In other words a custom rom which doesn't come up with a custom kernel but based on your existing stock kernel should be able to run on a locked bootloader. But my advice is you do not risk it.

I suppose it won't.I don't see the reason why u want to unlock the bootloader unless you want to install a new custom rom.
Guys I brought a H811 which is already carrier unlocked and I can use any sim available in our country. It's currently on LP 5.1 and I want to install any custom rom based on MM like genisys and so on may be cm also. So I have a question before trying to get root or flashing anything via TWRP or flashing firmware via KDZ that after each flash will it again be sim locked?
After each flash will it again ask for sim unlock code?
Actually I am pretty noob on this things and didn't used any locked phone like this before.
Thank you in advance...

Hello all
I have a question regarding downgrade.
I have a g5 xt 1676 dual sim 16 gb, 3gb ram. Now i am running npps 25.137-72-4 version. As u all know.. getting firmware for full flash is a pain for moto g5. I got this phone in some old firmware, and got two ota updates since then .. and it became 25.137-72-4 version..
Now i want to reflash it to stock firmware. I already have an unlocked bootloader .
So my question is.. since i have unlocked bootloader.. can i downgrade?
I have this firmware - CEDRIC_NPP25.137-33_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC
As you see.. this is 25.137-33
This is the latest i could get. ( Please feel free to share any updated firmware if you have, a twrp backup of untouched stock firmware will also work)
I am concerned about bootloader brick ( if any of you run 25.137-33 firmware, can you please share a picture of booloader screen, so that i can check if its the same as 25.137-72-4.)
So my plan is..
Since i have unlocked bootloader,
1) i hope i can flash 25.137-33 ( dont know if it works since i have updated firmware already) .
2) relock bootloader while flashing
3) receive ota update to update the 25.137-33 to 25.137-72-4.
And stay happy with a locked bootloader with complete stock firmware.
I dont know if this plan works, but i hope i can flash the downgraded firmware since i have unlocked bootloader.
So my primay concern and doubts are..
1) can i downgrade if i have an unlocked bootloader
2) is the bootloader of 25.137-33 same as that of 25.137-72-4
Please help me to solve these.
Below is the bootloader screen of my current firmware. 25.137-72-4
Can any one please check if it matches with the firmware 25.137-33
Any help for anyone? Can i downgrade with An unlocked bootloader?
Hi, I have the XT1670 variant, 32gb single sim
Currently running NPP25.137-93 firmware (actually a debloated version of that firmware).
Here's the picture of my bootloader I think it's the same as yours, I'm not sure if you can downgrade the bootloader, I have flashed the NPL25.137-33 several times in my phone and it always gives me error in the two first flash commands, this being "flash partition got.bin and flash bootloader.img"
The phone still reboots and works as it should
So can you downgrade? Yes I have done it and never had a problem
Can you relock your bootloader? I'm not sure
And I'm not sure if bootloader brick is a thing either
I hope this helps
Sorry I cant upload the picture but my bootloader version is: B8.23 (sha-8fcce1f, 2017-08-04 11:32:36)

You mean 25.137-33 is the version you have with b8.23 bootloader? If so its same.. not downgrade. But i dont know why u get flashing error even using same boot loaded.
1) flash partion got.bin - its the file that is responsible for repartitioning the nand memory and allocate partion for system, user data, kernel , radio, and all others..
2) flash bootloader.img - of course its the bootloader.. but how can it be error when u are flashing the same bootloader again
Do u have an unlocked or locked bootloader?
Unlocked bootloader, I have the version 25.137-93 with b8.23 bootloader, before flashing that firmware I had the 25.137-33 one with the same bootloader, there's a thread in the Moto G5 plus forum explaining how you can relock your bootloader, apparently it can be done, you have to relock your bootloader first in order to flash the complete firmware and receive ota updates

I bricked my phone yesterday and flashed the stock recovery via the MIUI flashing tool. B4 I went to reinstall TWRP and Root the device again,q I checked the bootloader status and found it had been locked. I went to unlock via the unlock tool and surprising to say I didn't have to wait 3 days this time.
