[Q] Missing Apps - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all! I'm new here, not sure how to navigate through this forum. But I have a slight problem and I was told you fine folks could help me out.
I just bought a HTC Desire HD second hand. The reseller told me it was unlocked and ready to go. Took it home, popped in my Sim card and all was well. Now this is my first Android device, but not my first encounter with them. I was looking though the All Apps and realized there isn't a Settings app. I then pressed the Menu button and pressed Settings and nothing happens. I am not entirely sure, but I believe the Settings app has been hijacked. So I have dragged down the notification section and have gone into the quick settings and tapped all settings and I get an error saying "Sorry! Status Bar has stopped unexpectedly. Would you like to tell HTC?"
So I have looked at the Preview error report and this is what it says:

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my phone? I pretty much can't do anything

1- reboot the phone and try again.
Same problem?
2- power off. Pull the battery, count to 30, place battery back in....
While holding the volume down button, press the power button. It should take you to hboot.
Does it say s-off and/or bootloader unlocked?
While you are at it, contact the seller.
Report back.

Thanks for your reply.
In regards to the Seller, I bought the phone in the US. I am Canadian I am trying to track down the Store/Sellers info at the moment.
I've got in to hboot and this is what it reads:

And then it gives several different options to select

Ahh.... When you said unlocked you meant SIM-Unlocked right?
You'll need to see if someone else can help you since I don't want to recommend anything with a phone that is stock. My bad.

Yes the phone is SIM-Unlocked, sorry for any confusion.

Anyone else able to help? I really wanna use my phone to it max potential I'm coming from a Bold 9900 and this phone is way Superior!

Why don't you download a stock rom and flash it ?

maybe you can try factory reset from bootloader
first disable fastboot from settings>power> fastboot (untick)
turn off your phone...then turn on again with press volume down + power until go inside bootloader
select FACTORY RESET..
*don't forget to backup everything you need first..contact, sms, etc.. because this will make all phone data, app and system configuration back to the original state..except sd card

How exactly does one flash a stock rom? And I have done several factory resets.. all ended with the same result. I've lost and info I have stored and I still have no Settings app lol

[Q] Bricking? Non-stop looping/cant get into Recovery Mode

Hello G2 Forum users/developers.
I used ROM Manager today to upgrade Virtous Radio.
After this, my Tmobile G2 goes into perma loop. I get the HTC "quietly brillant" screen.
However, it would be in some sort of perma loop.
I am super newbie. I used this forum to unlock a few phones. I have ADB at home.
When I plug my unit/G2 into my computer via USB
and type "adb devices", this is what I get:
"SH12PR208475 recovery"
QUESTION:
What in the world do I do from here on?
BACKGROUND:
I have downloaded a bunch (5-7 different) of ROM via Rom Manager. The phone was acting up a bit, in that it would sometimes not go into Recovery Mode from ROM Manager menu. I would select it; it would turn off and then blank screen. To solve this problem, I would remove battery and turn it back on. This would remedy the situation.
After updating the radio via Rom Manager (choosing Virtous (Free) one), the phone appears to be "Brick like".
Please help. Thank you.
If you are local vancouver, pls call 604 838 5805. Thanks again

Im confused about how you updated your radio via rom manager.
But im wondering if you flashed the virtuous unity rom and you have the G2 Hboot.
If this is what you did your device is not bricked.
Can you tell me exactly what you flashed.
And pull you battery out, put it back in and then press and hold the power button and volume down. This will take you in to the bootloader. Can you let me know what it says the top 2 lines of that screen.
Also from the bootloader you can access recovery, using to volume keys to navigate and the power button to select
Also the latest version of clockwork mod recovery has some issues when you try to boot directly in to it. You can either use an old version of cwm or have a look at 4ext recovery in the dev section

Hello there. Thank you for replying. I just remember I did something silly last night. I downloaded a something called "ASTRO File Manager" via Market, using the search protocol "file manager".
I then used this program to delete "su" (super user), and one called "Super User" (the ones with the crossbones I think).
This morning, I used ROM Manager; there is a "premium" section and there is a "free" section. I used the second one, the 'free' section. At the end, they had "Virtuos" ROM(wrong spelling I think). In the subsection, there is a "Radio Config" or "radio" something. I clicked onto this. It downloaded. Then it told me to say OK to install. It did all of that. Then the screen went blank, as it should, because it was being auto booting. After that, nothing. Just a loop of "HTC" and then "quietly brilland" after that.
I had not mentioned about the deleting of 'su' file and 'superuser' [crossbone] before because I had forgotten it.
Right now, when I use ADB on my computer, I see the device name and besides a series of numbers is the word "recovery"
Like this:
C:\ANDROID\G2\MISC>adb devices
List of devices attached
SH12PR208475 recovery

OK, can you access recovery via the bootloader. If you can you just need to either restore a back up. Or do a full wipe and flash a new rom.
The file you tried to flash was it radio to ril auto matcher?
And as you are rooted anything to do with super user on your phone is absolutely essential.

Sir. I have no idea how to restore a back up or how to do a full wipe. I would prefer to do a full wipe but again, I have no idea how to begin. I follow instruction on XDA here and managed to unlock and root 1. HTC TMOBILE G2 and 2. HTC TMOBILE 3G and the 3G Slide.
I think I can follow instruction; having said that, there is a huge huge amount of information on here and I am not sure where to start. Please help.
You wrote: "ril auto matcher"
I believe I did this; this morning I did this.
You wrote: "And as you are rooted anything to do with super user on your phone is absolutely essential."
Yes, the phone was unlocked and rooted. I used the intruction on the Wiki portion of XDA Forum.
Please reply at your convenience. Thank you again for taking the time out to help me. Thank you, thank you and more thank yous (from Vancouver BC Canada)

PROBLEM FIXED
This is what I did. Some is due to reading replies above. Thank you CJWARD23
Some I just played around. Not sure what happened, but I think it is better I post something here since I already spent enough bandwidth above.
When I tried to get the phone back to the Bootloader screen in order to do a "backup and restore", all I got was a black screen, with a "HAT" and an orange curvey ARROW.
I was freaked out and scared. The screen had "reboot" and a series of things you can do, ie wipe the cache, wipe the davik cache; I am not sure if this is a bootloader screen or not. But I wanted to get the the "backup and restore" function. Well, when I push the power button to execute this command, I got the HAT and ORANGE ARROW.
This is why I posted this post on here.
Since I unlocked and rooted the phone using intruction on here (XDA), I went back to my old files on my desk top.
Because I had used "Astro File Manager" the night before to delete "su" file aka superuser file, as well as the file with the crossbones (Super User).
Please dont ask me why I did this. We in the recovery world calls it a temporary lapsed of insanity.
Anyhow, I used ADB on desktop to put back SU and SUPERUSER
then i went back to do the powerdown and power button, to get at the recovery screen
i then had the same HAT and ARROW deal
this time, I use the button on my g2, it is not the power button, it is the one with the glowing light (when you receive a call), it is actially the only button on the surface of the phone, it is below the screen. that one. i push that button to exectute. I got a list of all my old ROMS, i click onto one and walla..... recovery
I am still not sure what I did wrong, or what I did right. I just know that I had a lot of help from the gentleman/gentlewoman above - mr/mrs CJWARD23
and in the mean time, i did a lot of praying and did a lot of reading on here as well as trying this or that.
If I were you, try to avoid deleting SU, su, or anything with da crossbone. Laughs.
I hope this helps. Have a nice day from Vancouver BC Canada. 1422hrs/pacific standard time.

[Q] Red Triangle stopping progress

Hi everyone!
I got this EVO 4G from a friend and so the phone is basically in an unknown state. He said it may have been programmed for T-Mobile or one of the other carriers at one time but it was put back (whatever that means).
He tried to have it activated at Sprint but he could never get data working and supposedly Sprint CS refused to help him - rather they tried to get him to trade the phone in for a newer model. So he gave the phone to me.
It is my thought that I would flash the phone with a known stock ROM to put it back into a factory state. This is where I've been having trouble.
I'm a complete noob at this so I have been trying to use the sticky posts here without luck. The first thing I tried was to just use the recovery in HBOOT without any changes to the phone. This failed as all I got was the a black screen with the picture of the EVO overlaid with a Red Triangle and exclamation point.
After that I loaded a stock image onto the sd card ( stock/supersonic/ruu/3.70.651.1/PC36IMG.zip[/url] ) but I had not luck here because it complained that the current image was newer than the one I was trying to load. It never gave me any option to load the image...
I just want to load the most up to date stock image on the phone without the possibility of ruining the phone. ( I assume that this is the best course of action rather that attempting to configure all the phone settings manually) Can anyone point me in the right direction - preferable with complete instructions?
I can really use some help! Below is some info on the current software of the phone...

The red triangle with an exclamation point is the default recovery loaded onto the phone. Also, looking at the information you provided it looks like the phone isnt rooted at all. Do the out of box system recovery again and let it do it's thing.
Try this one:
http://tinyw.in/OqfQ
Place in main folder of SD card, rename to PC36IMG.zip, boot into boot loader and say yes. Make sure you delete any other pc36img's first.
Thanks Concordium. For some reason I thought the red triangle was an error condition.
I powered on the phone holding the volume down key. When I selected recovery... I got the red triangle again but let it go as you said. It stayed like this for about twenty mind without change. I looked again in the forums for info about the red triangle. It said to press the volume up key and power key. This put me into the Android system recovery <3e> screen
There is a choice to... Wipe data/factory reset. This seems like the right wat to go but there is also an error displayed so I'm hesitant to proceed. Down below the greyed out red triangle it reads in yellow text... E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
This seems troubling. I don't know its referring to the sd card or the device itself. Also, when I got this phone there was no sd card in it. I'm using one I pulled out of my old mogul with wm6.1.. don't know if aneroid stores recovery or configure info on sd card at all.
Should I go ahead and run the wipe data facory reset... is that recovery?
Thanks!
Yes just factory reset

[Q] HTC wildfire S Marvel S-on issue after root and factory reset

Hello, need some help here.
I rooted my mums Wildfire S to get some extra internal memory. All was working except for widgets so stupidly I did a factory reset from privacy menu (my first root so putting it down to naivety) now the phone starts and I am able to go through the initial start-up steps like selecting provider, setting up wifi but then the phone gets stuck on the screen that says:
Loading...
it may take several minutes to complete, please wait
I had installed recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img prior to rooting and have subsequently tried the recovery options power+Vol up, and the factory reset from the boot menu, have shown patience for several hours and no joy. But as the phone still sort of works I thought I would get some expert advice on how to fix before I break it any further

i have tryed tons of threads that recon they have done it etc etc. and followed the steps to the letter (even searching
for a diff site to get the reversed key required for making said goldcard).
info on the device its-self...
Model ... HTC Mildfire S A510e
Brand ... Virgin _mobile
Device ... Marvel
Andriod version ... 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) ive not gotten around to doing custom roms on this device as of yet, i want to get this s-on to s-off first.
update...
well i have gold card made yet again from scratch, and have now tryed multiple diag files from diff places , only 2 do anything the rest just hang on Jumping to DIAG.
The ones that do actualy do something get to a grey screen that says Get SW Version ( pressing anything at this time does nothing ), then it says
Verify (something else but it was too quick)
then
Get OEMSBL time out!
Pls chk security flag
Press VOLDN to exit
so i press vol down, (have done this several times now with diff PG76DIAG.nbh from over the net (ie 4 share, filehost, mediafile, u guys also who post links for said file, alot dont work).
then says
Waiting for
GSM ready
then
Power =) Reflash
Vol -Dn =) DIAG so diag is selected and TP Calibration goes on , says all is ok, format goes ok , then i get
Clean S58 Data
Device Info
I select Clean S58 Data and then confirm to clean data and it doesnt say clean ok or anything like i have seen over the net, it just reboots, and has not turn'd S-ON to S-Off, some help i think is needed as i shouldnt be getting Get OEMSBL time out!, Pls chk security flag, Press VOLDN to exit happening.
You'll need an XTC-Clip to get S-Off on the WFS. See this topic.

urgent help needed: Virgin Mobile HTC desire 601 bricked

I have a HTC desire 601 bought this Summer from Virgin Mobile USA, a CDMA based carrier using Sprint network. My son played with it yesterday and now it is bricked. A "HTC" log is shown up and frozen in the display, not able to shutdown the phone by pressing anything.
I asked my son what he did, but he didnt say anything as he is afraid of punishment
what I can do is try to remove the battery, then hold the volume down key and power key, then it brings up this screen:
