Since 4.3, my gallery app is absurdly slow to open, and I'm looking for a replacement. Something similar happened with the camera app, and installing the Note2 camera port fixed the lag problems.
So the only restrictions for the gallery are that it must open as the default picture viewing app from within the camera (that's why I suppose only official Samsung galleries will work - S4/Note), and preferably have an editor.
If there's a way to make QuickPic open up the camera pictures from the camera app, I'll take it. But if not, are there any working ports I can test?
Thanks!

Hey guys,
So who's given the G3's camera a run using Google's Camera app? I've tried it several times alongside the native camera app, and I realize that Google's Camera app doesn't seem to work as great as the native app.
It seems the laser assist autofocus does not work on Google Camera, since it takes a second or so for the camera to focus, instead of a few milliseconds with the native app.
HDR on Google Camera does not work as intended, either resulting in an image looking like normally shot or even at times darker.
Video recording using Google Camera app is limited to 1080p instead of 4K.
There is one thing positive with the Google Camera app though, and that it has a larger field of view compared to the native camera app. The Google Camera app almost makes it seem that the native camera app is zoomed a few times closer than it should be. I'll try to take a comparison shot to show you guys what I mean, but you can simply download the app and try it yourself
Next, I will try how the camera works with CameraZoom FX app.
Well that was expecting since I believe lg made things to work with stock...but let us know which third party works best!
I use the Google app for photosphere and lens blur.

Coming from an N5, I quickly got the Google Camera after getting my G3, but then realized the only reason I liked the Google Camera was because I shot everything with HDR+. I do miss that feature from the N5, since the G3 does not a good job at white balance in some lights, and HDR+ would always get me great looking photos, but could only shoot static targets and would take a while to shoot.
I also tried VSCO Cam and it doesn't offer much when it comes to camera settings, so things end up looking almost the same as stock, but with the slower focus like you mentioned.
Did someone come up with a way to change the way the stock camera oversharpens low light photos? It's pretty bad.
Has anyone tried LG Camera on the G3?

I only installed the Google Camera for photosphere. There really isn't any other reason to.
Also, I think the stock LG camera does have a lens blur effect.

on my old Samsung (CM13), I used to have Google Camera app installed. I have used it only for Photo Spheres, as stock camera app was good enough for everything else.
Google Camera got device-related limitation in recent versions, so you cannot install it from Google Play directly unless you own some Google device. so, I just went to APKMirror and found some 3.2 arm64 apks.
so, on OP3 Google Camera 3.2 works, but when it comes to capturing Photo Spheres, it becomes really slow. each tile takes 5 - 10 seconds to take, while old Samsung used to capture it 10x faster.
is there any way to fix this or do you suggest any alternative Photo Sphere camera app to replace Google Camera?
thx.
+1 for this topic. Also, Google Camera is not able to focus manually...
Hi,
I currently ran into the same issue. I used the GCam a lot on other devices to create photospheres. But with the OnePlus3 this is nearly impossible. After focusing on the next blue dot the cam need 5 seconds go take the picture. I currently couldn't figure out whats the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Attached google-camera.log. Log created while using Google Camera and taking a photosphere (not complete).
I can confirm the same problem arises when taking photo spheres from within the app Google Street View. Has anyone found/made a fix yet?
I'm running Google Camera v. 3.2.045 on CM13 (nightly 0816) and photosphere works exactly as expected. There's maybe a second delay when hovering over each guide dot, but that's what I remember it always being.
fixed in OOS 3.2.2
photo sphere works as expected
I dont think Streeview spheres work

I have the same problem.
Use the Google camera to take a photosphere. Then import in Streerview.
Is the only "solution" i found. Google camera Is realy fast
Anyone here that has noticed a big delay when taking a photosphere or panorama with google camera? I use Resurrection Rom. A faster camera app for this would be nice.

Google street view work fast with cm14 or cm14.1 (and probably with cm 13 but i don't have try it). If street view works slowly you have to use google camera (you can download from apk mirror) for take photo sphere or panorama picture. When take a picture with google camera you have to turn on "save position" in settings. Then you can upload in street view.

The problem with the Google Gamera App is that the higher pictures (when you point up) come out of focus It is not a problem with the camera itself, I can take pictures pointing up outside of the photosphere setting.
HI everybody,
K this camera apk was pulled from the MIUI rom port while doing extensive testing of the rom it's self just to see how the rom did. While doing this I noted with the camera all issues we have on the cm and nexus based roms are non existent on the MIUI camera, but the camera does have issues.
1. It has two issues one when it takes a photo's with the rear facing camera it saves it upside down for some reason
2. second issue i found is when you go to the front facing camera it glitches in the transition and you half to close it out and restart and then it'll be on the front facing camera and you half to do the same to get back to the rear facing camera NOTE: the front facing camera does not flip the image
Now initially I thought this might of been the miui rom its self so I grabbed the camera apk and jumped to the Nexus rom and IT WORKS. I currently use this camera as my daily driver despite its issues and even though I have purchased the Snap Camera, I just prefer the MIUI camera...
I would note I ran a search on the camera apk files name and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/development/mod-oppocamera-settings-timer-scene-t3003030 I tried the zips they have and they don't seem to work on our phone.
Also I did not know who to credit for this. I'm sorry for that; if some one know's who pm me or comment. Thanks
personally i find 'BlueCam' delivers better photos than the MIUI, the only features that don't work is manual focus but the auto focus does a fine job and it has torch mode to take care of night photos which gets over the flash problem, its also free on the app store.

true that, I'm thinking it should be very possible for an app to utilize an existing camera app to take the picture and then parse it, if background elements are an issue a crop tool can be built it. I'll look into it after this coming week and see if i can come up with something. Won't be perfect but it'll be better than nothing

Regarding barcode scanning... it is not as seemless as barcode scanner or google goggles, but I had good success with QR droid which can use an existing picture to read a barcode.

That's what I'm getting at, if its possible to read from an image then it should be possible to have your camera take a snap shot, save it has an ordinary image and then have an app interpret it. At least in theory, I don't know how feasable it is yet
I use this camera app from f-droid app store its free and open source and also works well with flash
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=camera&fdid=com.simplemobiletools.camera
Tried it with latest lineage os by ggow. Focus is fast and pictures are coming up great. There is no manual controls but this app is better than stock or Google camera app in my opinion anyway. Camera button also works to activate this app and to take snaps with. Developer also has gallery app in f-droid if you want to give it a spin.

The camera from F-droid is very limited and it does not work with flash. It works in a sense that flash can be permanently turned on and used as a light. The oppo camera however seems to work correctly. The only problem I encountered is switching between front and rear camera. Seems like usable camera to use when you need flash support. Otherwise open camera app is good and full featured app.

I find oppo camera good but pictures for not known reason turn out upside down - I really don't fancy switching them back manually.
Another good app is camera HDR. As mentioned in CyanogenMod description it just work well.
thanks. really nice. flash light photos works fine.
hello,
i'm having issues with stock camera app.
when ever i take panorama photos and try to view them in gallery (regardless of app used), i get this error message:
"cannot display panorama / the image file does not contain the required panorama metadata".
so far i tried with default gallery app and quickpick. neither of them are able to open the panorama file.
i also tried with google camera app. this seems to take panoramas without issue.
the only time / place i am able to view the panorama files is right after i take them and use the "recent pic" option from within the camera app.
right now i`m on android 7.1.1 with OS 4.1.6. unlock bootloader, TWRP, rooted device, stock OS / kernel.
already tried to clear camera app and gallery app data/cache. also did a wipe of cache / dalvik for entire phone. all in vain.
so .. if anyone has other suggestions ...
thanks.
In QuickPic, don't press on the displayed panorama icon but pinch-to-zoom instead.
Also keep in mind that QuickPic is noticeably slower on Nougat and might take some time to render the photo in full resolution.
The fastest gallery for Nougat at the moment is Simple Gallery, which also shows panoramas without issues for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery
The stock gallery doesn't give me any issues with panoramas, but it's a crappy slow app and I don't use it.
Nothing you can do about this. Something is fundamentally wrong with the way panorama-metadata is stored with their stock camera app.
Also taking panoramas in general is a PITA. I tried numerous shots at the beach last week. All were unusable because of countless stitching errors.
Clearing app data did not help unfortunately and It's not the only thing weird, also taking panoramas with google camera doesn't refocus for each shot.
Even some few OP5 camera reviews mentioned the same behavior. I really hope OnePlus fixes their app eventually.
Hi.
I don't have root. I need to set it up after taking a photo or video, clicking on a photo or video in the camera app to open the photo or video in my own gallery. I use my own application for photos and I use potplayer for videos.
Thanks.

Which camera app are you refering to, miui stock or other? Can you not go into settings/app defaults and alter/clear them from there so that you are prompted next time you click on a photo within the camera app...
I have a stock camera. I don't know where in the settings to do this.

The stock camera app opens recently taken photos in itself (the photos are opened in the Camera app, not the stock Gallery app or something else), and it doesn't provide an option to open them in neither the stock Gallery app, nor your own gallery app of your choice.
If you'd like the Camera app to open those photos in the stock Gallery or an app of your choice, post a suggestion to Xiaomi to add this feature to the stock Camera app.
(And just to clear any confusion, this has nothing to do with app defaults, like the ones that ask you whether to open YouTube links in the browser, or the YouTube app)
