Just a simple question for jellybean+ roms - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Why when u make a phone call you loose data so your not able to search the web and as soon as you hang up the data reactivates never noticed it doing that when jellybean first came out...and it does it on the new kitkat also I know kitkat is still in alpha but jellybean hasn't been

I'm on cm11 on the skyrocket when I'm on lte it kicks back to h+ since no voice goes over lte until volte comes out. I'm on att though I'm not sure on t- mobile

I've always been able to use data while on a call on any rom or android version I've used. Haven't used 4.4 tho. I'll try that one out when the bugs are worked out and apps catch up with their updates.

flashed to cm9 alpha 6, get grey 3g bars no data

When I was on stock I was always on 3g. Now that I flashed to cm9a6, I've been waking up to my phone with grey 3g bars. I flip to airplane mode and back to fix it and finally get my emails but its a real pain in the ass.
I looked into it, but saw posts from march, wondering if anyone had a fix or if this is just a bug.

Bug but, there are newer nightlies to flash than a6... Google chris41g to find his server with nightlies, otherwise go ask in the thread for more specifics

Why are you on alpha 6? Lol that is the question. Chris41g is knocking out RC quality builds that you need to be flashing if you want cm9. Get on it

[Q] Any Jelly Bean Roms with Wifi Calling?

Hello,
I was wondering if there is any Jelly Bean roms that support Wifi calling. I need Wifi calling where I work because I get no reception in my office.
Or is there any other roms that is recommended that has Wfi calling?
Thanks for any help.
Why not use Viber? It uses your mobile number as the ID and anyone else using Viber can make a free VOIP call to you.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Aosp ROMs (cm, aokp) currently don't have actual WiFi calling as its something that runs deeper in tw ROMs other than an apk

And therefore is completely different than WiFi calling.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Wi-Fi calling is a TMobile creation thus must be cooked into the rom base by TMobile. Since we dont have a TMobile release for JB for the T989 the answer would be no.
And to reiterate what the poster above me said, wifi calling is more than VOIP.
WiFi Calling / Using WiFi to Surf?
I have no doubt this may be a stupid question, but if I was to use one of the Jelly Bean ROMS and lose wifi calling, does that also mean that I could not connect to the web via wifi?
Thank you in advance for any help. This is a deciding factor for me.
I am using the Galaxy S2 t989 Hercules.
No JB has WiFi fixes just make sure you read before you flash but most of them all have WiFi  good luck

Are you saying there is/are jb rom(s) without working wifi?? I'm just asking cause who on earth would flash such a thing....or even release a rom for jb with no wifi considering all the awesome roms we have with wifi working perfectly fine.
Just curious....really! Not trying to crack wise with you! Lol

Well, the discussion about Google voice would be a whole new issue. The bottom line is, its different than TMo wifi calling.
As far as Bell getting an update...might want to browse the official jelly-bean sticky for that info.
I am in the same situation, and use wifi calling at home. The problem with GV and other services like that, is that you won't receive calls to your Tmobile number when you don't have signal. You can only call out on the phone, which will use your GV number when you do. Unless you give everyone your GV number, but for me that wasn't very practical, since I've had my T-mo number for over 10 years (ported from my old home phone #).
So, if you have no signal and want to use wifi, people wanting to get a hold of you will have to call your GV number instead of your Tmobile number. As far as taking over your phone, GV has an option to use the GV number for every call, so it sorta does take over. But if you click no, you can manually enable/disable GV when you use it. I think it asks you every time you make a call, which was kinda annoying, as was enabling/disabling GV every time I was connected to wifi.
On top of that, just about every one of those apps I tried other than GV, had poor quality and/or call echo issues. Even the ones with echo cancellation didn't work well in my experience.
So I just went back to t-mo based ROMs that had wifi calling built in, and it's much easier for me.
I'm basically in the same boat. Both of my houses have complete dead spots and very little to 1 bar of reception if ever. I heavily rely on wifi-calling.
So has any JB 4.2/4.3 ROMs popped up yet with Wifi-Calling? Does anyone know of any sort of gains in figuring it out?
Nope....only touchwiz roms.

I would love to do it if someone could point me in the right direction compare the ICS tmobile version with a standard touchwiz ICS code and find the difference. Once the difference has been found inject that into the jellybean. In theory that should work

If it was doable, it would have been done by now. Don't ya think?
Sent from my cellular telephone
I am inclined to agree but to a point. In the end it's still code, someone had to create it and inject it into the official tmobile ROMS there for it can be reverse engineered. I would suspect that it's such a tedious task that it hasn't been done. To find the several lines of code the amount of effort wasn't worth the time to invest especially since you could copy and past

[Q] Extremely weak wifi

Hi guys.
I don't know if its my phone or if this is the way the phone is meant to be, I have an extremely weak wifi signal. I am literally right next door to my router and I only get 3/4 bars for signal strength. As soon as I go up to the second floor, I get nothing at all unless I'm directly above my router. This is extremely frustrating at the moment. I decided to lurk around the forum to see if installing a custom rom would help and I ended up installing Jedi Invasion 2; it did not help at all.
It's just so frustrating that I have to use my mobile internet when I'm in bed instead of using my home internet. I don't understand this at all. Why is it so weak? Does anyone else have this problem?
Thank you.
Im with you on this......im staying tuned..

Have you tried updating your modem to the latest version that was just released?
My modem is perfectly fine. I just dont understand how my old crappy blackberry had a better and stronger connection than my s3.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I found the Wi-Fi performance increased a fair bit when I upgraded to 4.1.1. I can go a fair ways in my house before dropping bars. Wish I had run WiFi Analyzer before the upgrade so that I could actually compare RSSI.
Depends on the router freq. 2.4ghz and 5ghz. 5ghz can cause crappy WiFi strength issues. Change the settings around to 2.4 only and see what happens.

My router does not support dual band. Like I said earlier, my blackberry has a stable connection while my s3 struggles.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I had the same problem in 4.0.4 ICS but now on 4.1 JB it is working perfect. Before on ICS I had like 3-4 bars when I was 2ft away from the router. Now on JB I have full 5 stable bars no less with higher distance.

Help, no 4g, horrible 3g

For the love of god, someone please help after I explain wth is going on.
Ive been running Infamous Rom for a while & a few days ago, my 4g startef acting up. I tried a different rom but no real change. I went back to Sonic FreeGS3 which had previou as ly ran fine but my 4g still sucks. Most apps are ok but Play Store & my web browsers refuse to load 9/10 times. I tried flashing UVLI6 & 5 modems but nothing. Do you guys think my 4g antenna went out? My wifi works flawlessly.

[Q] No service at work. Any help?

Ive noticed since I moved offices, that in my office building I get absolutely no service whatsoever. And there is no wifi password available to use wifi via my phone. So today as I was leaving work and finally got service again, I had 12 missed calls, 5 texts, and 3 voicemails. Is there a better modem to flash that can help? Thanks!
Not exactly. Different locations have different best modems. You just have to try them and see.

Have you checked T-Mobiles coverage map yet? There just may not be a signal there in the first place.

I never had a problem with my Blaze there. Even at home with the S3 I get maybe 2 bars. Which leads me to believe its the modem. On my Blaze I had an updated modem that made data very fast.

This is just strange... in roughly a year of doing this I think you're the first to report that happening. 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 modems have always worked on 4.1.2, and any other combo has worked as well. There are people who still use the LH2 (ics) modem because it still performs better than any other for them.
I think you may have been seeing it function normally though. When idle, its supposed to drop to UMTS to save power and bandwidth. If you check while a transfer is occurring you will see it change to HSPAP.

Has anyone else found another modem that they now use that gives them better signal/data speeds for their Tmobile T999? My work building is a complete dead zone for Tmobile, so I am hoping flashing another modem works. Otherwise, im not sure what else I can do.
I have to refer you to my initial response here. A modem that gives better speed and signal for me, might be one of the worst for you.
Just something to consider, you probably could test 2-3 different ones each day at work. Maybe more. If your main issue is signal, then flash, check service, if none then flash another right away. I could probably flash 5 different ones on a 15 min break if I was only looking for improved signal. Might be a better way than waiting for someone to tell you what worked for them, then testing only that the next day. Its your phone and your time though, so its your call. Just tryin to help
