Hi, I'm having a weird issue on my defy. Basicly, during a regular phone conversation, when I speak I can hear my voice out from the earpiece.
There is no delay in it and It's not so bad really (sometimes I don't even notice it) and I don't think I couldn't live with it, but for now I still do notice it which is not very good.
For the record, it's a B33, hence from the older or "unsafe" series... but in my theory, this should not related to the widely acclaimed earpiece problems.
What do you think?
How loud is it?
I haven't noticed it myself but instantaneous feedback is used on phones to stop the user from shouting into their phones unnecessarily.
Otherwise it could be the other person on the line using a speaker-phone or something.
not very loud actually, you just know it's there, and it's for all persons I'm calling, not limited only to one... as said, there is no delay whatosver, just some presence of your own voice coming out from the earpiece. a bit difficult to describe... maybe a lot of people dont even notice it...
now I tried to record my voice with a voice recording app and there is no such feedback
I can hear my own voice like an eco when I talk to others.. it is very annoying and I have had my phone repaired for broken earpiece speaker. That did not fix the eco problem. I have also got my phone replaced once because of other problems, still has eco when speaking.
My wife says she doesn't hear it when she use my phone. But I'm very annoyed about stuff like this.
It do help a bit if I hold my phone different and a bit further away from my mouth when I talk in it.
if I could I would return it now, I thought I could ignore it when I got used to it but now I can't (had it since december) and now I'm dreaming of other phones to replace my Defy... most likely a Nexus S so I get vanilla android.
for how long you have the phone? it could be a defective piece , mine is from the older pieces too made in november 2010 but hasnt any problems for now anyway i own it from one month and it will be no suprise for me if it starts making problems...
I have experienced this from time to time. I first noticed that it was happening primarily when my phone was switching to edge connection from the 3g. Someone else suggested that when this happens it is because the user is speaking too loud. I have tried lowering my voice when I get the echo and it does go away. However, this still only seems to happen when the signal switches. Perhaps pay closer attention and see if it is the same for you? Definitely try lowering your voice. I did a test with my wife on the other end and when I lowered my voice she said I sounded the same to her but my echo went away.

but are you experiencing the echo also with delay? this only happens sometimes
and most of the times occurs when the person you are calling has the volume of the earpiece too high so the microphone is able to catch it and there you have the echo with delay.
but in my case there is no delay, it's just like my voice is directly amplified to the earpiece.
I've had 2 Defys so far and have noticed the echo whenever I speak slightly loud with both phones,i think it's supposed to be a feature or something so that you know how you sound because it's also found among other devices

thanks a lot. actually it could make sense because if you think of the defy as a rugged phone and it's meant to be used in difficult conditions where the user tends to speak too loudly.
I got defy about a week ago and i also had this issue. I returned the phone to the shop that i bought it and i am waiting for them to check it in order to get a replacement.
Also,i have noticed that i hear my own voice through the speaker a bit amplified and without any lag when i talk with my mouth close to the microphone. This was not only happening while i was having a conversation in a call, but from the very first moment that the call was launched.
For instance, when i was talking during the dial tone and before the recipient has accepted the call, i was keep getting my voice back through the speaker. That can exclude any network related cause of the problem.
So i can't understand if this is a normal condition or a problem and i am anxious about the new device that i will get. I think that i got in all that trouble for nothing and the replacement is gonna be like the first one... Is there any way to avoid it?
The brand new defy that i got as a replacement arrived. It has the echo problem too... Hands Up.The phone is so good apart from this issue. It is so annoying though i would be glad if i could get it fixed.
I was wondering if anyone else has this issue:
I notice that my phone sometimes makes loud pop noises when phone connects during phone calls.
It does not happen when dialing sprint voicemail , *2 or google voice mail .
It appears to happen when dialing certain landline numbers and certain verizon cell phone numbers.
I have read that some people who have the original epic 4g had experienced clicking and popping noises on phone calls.
However, I have not read anything of anyone who has the epic 4g touch having these issues.
Your input is Greatly Appreciated.

Fyi ...here is a link to this issue on the original epic 4g ..

I have this problem too.
I mostly dial Verizon cellphones and I do believe that is when I have this problem most often.
I'll start to take more notice of the types of calls I am placing when this happens to me.
Not sure if its a phone problem, or a Sprint problem?
Could it be the default voice encoder? Default is EVRC. I just changed mine to 13K and I'll see if it makes a difference in the next few days. Then I'll try 4GV as well. (unless someone wants to let me know this is a waste of time testing?)
EDIT: the popping noise we had on the Epic 4G was the actual speaker. It physically made popping/clicking noises. I had that as well. But here, I am having popping/line cracking in the audio of the telephone while dialing/call connecting. Which problem are you having with Epic Touch?
Im hearing a popping , clicking noise coming from earpiece speaker upon connecting on some phone calls that I initiate . It doesn't happen on all phone calls though. It has happened when calling Verizon Wireless phones and some Landline phone numbers.
It has been happening in different locations ( about a 60 mile radius) throughout Chicago ,Illinois metropolitan area. I guess I can rule out a bad tower being the cause.
My phone is stock and not rooted.
Thank You very much for your input. I really appreciate it.
I am glad someone else has experienced this issue. I hope that the cause can be pinpointed and that a fix can be made for it.

Having this issue right now as I talk to my fiance on her VZN cell phone. Never really noticed it till this time.
Thank you very much for your input!
That now makes 3 of us having this issue. I wonder if it is only happening to a few of us or if it is more of a widespread issue.
I wish we could identify the cause of the popping noise. I never had a phone that did that. It is strange.
I would really like to fix this if at all possible.

Had the same exact issue with my Epic touch that i purchased on launch day, took it over to sprint and the representative also heard it. he did a reset apparently thinking it would fix it. the first couple of calls after the reset did make the popping noise go away so i left the store satisfied. getting into the car i made a call and the noise was back. went back in talk to the sales person again and he exchanged the phone for a new one (this is a week after having the phone). with the new one i havent ran into any noise what so ever so im guessing it was just a defect in that unit. just telling my experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I too bought mine on launch day.
I hope mine isn't a defective unit.
I will have the phone checked out at Service Center to see if it is defective or not.
OK, I have not been having these problems for the past 2 days.
First, I did a "Data Reset": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289475
Second: Changed my default Encoder to "13K" under the Advanced menu for "##3282#"
SO, my signal, data speeds, all seem better. I haven't noticed a difference in audio call quality, but I havent noticed any problems. Disclaimer: I do not know if it actually fixed anything. I will try going back to the system default of "EVRC" encoder to see if my problems reappear.
Does anyone know if "Data Reset" can actually fix these types of problems?
OK So I got a call from the finace today while I was at school. She was on her last break at work and I was just out of class for the day (and we just got off the phone she went out for dinner with family) and this problem did not come up on either of the 2 calls (there were more in between that also did not have them)
While she is on VZN I'm kinda wondering so far today not once have I heard the issue and it's loud enough and weird enough that I would notice it on any call but as I said not once today has it happened. BTW this is a none rooted device and I've done NO tweaks at all to it everything is flat out stock on this phone right now. so *shrug*
Thanks for all your help Chip! , Mu5ic92 and Cidica !! I Appreciate it!
I have noticed that the popping noise is intermittent. It has only happened 1 time out of 5 phone calls I made throughout the day.
I am going to try the data reset and also changing to the 13k voice to see if it helps.

Hi everybody!
Today, when I was listening to music, and surfing on the internet, immediately my screen had some lines over the center of the screen, and it has started beeping loudly, it was very very loud in my ears... I didn't know what to do so I tried to shut off it but I did't know it did't do anything. The screen went black, but in my opinion it wasn't off. Battery out and back, and it is good now... Have you ever experienced it? What can be the problem?

Sorry but it wasn't funny, when it started beeping in my ears .
Sorry I didn't realize the calamity of the sitiation.
Hmm...was it a screeching noise?
Are you stock? If not, what rom/kernel are you running?
Were you able to replicate it?
What do you personally believe mightve caused it? Were you on a flash heavy website while streaming music? Maybe it got confused?
Maybe the magnetic field got distorted for a second and messed with the electronics?
There's really too many unknown variables...we're gonna have to narrow it down
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Have you installed any custom kernels?
Maybe the GPU overclock is unstable on your phone.
Ok I understand it, but I don't know what caused it. I know that I was in a very bad Edge area, maybe it can be the cause of the problem, but I don't know how, because I was in this area today too, and at least two times every week but the problem only appeared yesterday. I was surfing on the internet, like everyday. It was a long (yes maybe screeching) noise until I haven't pulled-off the original headset from the phone. When I pulled off it the noise discontinued. The lines on the screen were there and my phone was unusable.

Hey guys, I'm a former iPhone user and I just recently switched to android for several reasons. The ZL being my first android device makes it harder for me to compare but...does anyone else experience slight delays when it comes to having the lock screen come up when hitting the power button and waking the device?
I'm on a C6506, completely stock on the latest firmware (10.1.1.A.1.253) and less than a week old. My friends who convinced me to switch to android tell me that their devices (S2/S3/Nexus 4, etc) wake up practically in an instant, and I know that so did my iPhone, so this variable delay of upwards to a second and some is really, really irritating. Since I don't know anyone else with a ZL I can't compare performance, so I'm asking you guys so I can tell if it's what I should be expecting or if there's something wrong with my phone.
Here's a video to further illustrate what I'm talking about: Go on YouTube and watch?v=0fb0lt1sJgA, I can't post links because I don't have enough posts yet.
So yeah, some of these wake ups have a longer delay than others, but I've had even longer ones than the ones on the video. Is this normal behavior for the ZL?

It is annoying me, but it doesn't outweigh the many reasons why I'm switching to android. I just want to make sure I didn't get a lemon phone or something like that since I don't have a lot of experience with other android phones. I wanted to know if other ZL users had the same user experience as I did in this respect. If it's normal then I'll live with it, if not then I have to do something about it. By the way, did you see the video? Is it like what you normally experience with your phone?

I'm sorry if I came across as whining. Please, don't misunderstand. I'm not complaining about a delay, what I want to know is if the wake up speed of my phone is inline with other ZL phones in general. My android using friends all report very different wake up speeds, but none of them use a ZL so I have no one to compare to, which is why I came here. Unlike more popular phones that have every bit of them documented I haven't been able to find other examples for the ZL.
As for the video, please search "xperia zl wake up speed" on YouTube. It should be the first video.

I just came on xda this morning to post about the same problem although have an Xperia Z.
I think it is due to the new upgrade in firmware as this started happening after I updated to 253 last night.
The delay is much more prominent than it was on the previous firmware.

Yes, I didn't really notice it until I upgraded to the last firmware, but since I've spent so little time with the phone and the previous firmware I wasn't confident enough that there was a difference. What you say lends more credence to that hunch. I want to test and compare with the previous firmware but first I'd need to familiarize myself with how to flash them back and forward.

It does take some time. But not bothersome to me
I had a similar problem to yours. I noticed a few times that when i wake up the phone with the power button and swipe the screen to unlock it sits there for a good 5 sec with no icons.
It seems to me that when I have bluetooth enabled and streaming audio in the car or on my bluetooth bose speakers it does this.
Once I disable bluetooth it goes back to normal.

But this is with stock firmware, literally right after a repair/factory reset with no apps other than the stock ones installed or even user data on the phone.
One reason might be the Xperia Z and ZL's considerably long stand-by times on many tech review sites. It might be going in a 'deeper' sleep than what other android phones go to.
narilym 001288
I believe the initial one sec delay that you are experiencing when unlocking the screen is normal especially if you are running a live wallpaper.
I remember my old Galaxy SII would get very unresponsive at times making it extremely frustrating.
In my case nutsuTo is right I have some app that's giving me trouble. I know some people have complained about the xperia randomly rebooting. Mine only does this when I do a full reset and then install and updates my apps in the google store. Then once I'm finished and exit to the home screen it will reboot every single time. I know some app that I'm installing or updating is making my phone reboot.
I'm just to lazy to try all of them one by one lol
Forgive my bad english :fingers-crossed:
The only problem that I have with this phone is that callers keep complaining that they can't hear me. It seems like its only an issue when I receive calls and not when I make the calls. The weird part is that people will complain that they can't hear me at all or they will say I sound like I am really far away. they are like " hello, hello, HELLO!!!" so out of frustration I will move the phone away from my face and be like WTF! The screen will then turn back on and as soon as I talk again people hear me again just fine. So it definitely seems like an issue with the software. I went and replaced the phone at Verizon and since got a new one and the problem STILL exists. Anyone else have this issue at all? It's beyond frustrating!

Don't have this issue at all.
If you don't have a case, maybe bluetooth is connecting to something?
I'd start troubleshooting it, try with speaker, see if some app is taking over your mics, obviously your mic works since its only on incoming calls and you've replaced your phone already.
Try booting into safe mode and testing.
Does it happen everywhere? Or only when you're in a certain area? Make sure you're not accidently muting it somehow?
Do all your testing in safe mode so you'll know if it's app taking your mic.

Does the other person hear static? Or nothing at all? For me I can hear then but they hear static.
I've called verizon about this for the past 4 weeks and now they have me doing something every time it happens. After it happens I have to hang up and dial ### and then after it tells me its a wrong number, hang up.
Apparently this is to mark the calls that were bad so they can further diagnose the issue.
I've been through 2 note 4s already and I am actually about to exchange this one today because I'm having other issues on top of the caller issues.
I'd recommend calling verizon and complain about call quality issues and ask them to put you on the monitoring service so they can further diagnose the issue.

I've had my phone a few days and it's constantly doing this. I first noticed it while using headphones. Then, I noticed it while on speakerphone. Most of the time, the people on the other end can't hear me. However, once today, I couldn't hear the other line but they could hear me. SO frustrating, because I use my phone for work!
