[Q] Is it possible to enable LTE Band 3 on SGH-M919 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi all,
Just wanted to know if it is possible to enable LTE band 3 (1800 Mhz) on an SGH-M919. Is it hardware restricted or can be enabled by flashing a modem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I am interested in this also. When I select band 3. It does not really get selected. When I go back in the menu it keeps the (*) marking the selection on Automatic. While if I select, for example, band 2,4,5 the star moves to them and I get disconnected from the network.
Is there some setting somewhere that I can enable that in?

It will not show the (*) when you choose band 3. Just choose LTE/GSM then go back and choose band 3.

That didn't work for me. (*) is not shown for band 3. but I was able to select band 4 or all bands, and obviously there is no network.

It does not get selected. I think it might be disabled somewhere.
I wonder if it could be enabled through editing the QCN file.

Type dialer *#197328640# and go to UMTS>DEBUG SCREEN>PHONE CONTROL>NETWORK CONTROL>BAND SELECTION>GSM BAND OR WCDMA BAND
important...
1. hit your conty carier network band. others not working eg, sri lanka gsm band is 900/1800. wcdma 2000
2, dont hit any other options. if hit you may broke your rom.
3. befor you going to flash another rom first hit the band to automatic
UMTS>DEBUG SCREEN>PHONE CONTROL>NETWORK CONTROL>BAND SELECTION>automatic
if you help this advice just hit the thanks button.
How to get into that menu.. What's the code?

It is easier to just type "*#2263#" in your dialer because it takes you directly to the network selections you are referring to.

Some carriers use restrictions (RAT restrictions) to prevent this.

In this case..such as with AT&T, you would dial *#197328640# and go to UMTS>DEBUG SCREEN>PHONE CONTROL>NETWORK LOCK>RAT_FREE_SUPPORTITNG ON (supporting is misspelled with the last T and I swapped around). After this you can use the OP method or from the dialer type *#2263# which takes you directly to the band selection options. Whenever I was running stock rom, I used this method all the time. The one catch with RAT restrictions is you have to redo the option to unlock the RAT every time you reboot.
There are four options under band selection: Automatic will allow for LTE, 3.5G, and 2G depending on what signals are available. However if you choose one of the other three options, it locks into that particular bandwidth. If you choose LTE you will only have data capabilities since LTE does not currently handle voice calls. If you move out of an LTE area, you will no signal. The same applies to all except for automatic which switches between bands as needed.
On the other hand if you are trying to disable LTE only, then there is a completely separate method of doing this (assuming that network preferences does not work). Create an APN and just name if Fake. Once created, enable it and exit and go to dialer. You will lose data, but this is only temp. You must wait about 25 seconds then dial *#*#4636#*#* and choose "Device Information". You will see a dropdown menu that says "WCDMA preferred". Change this to "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and exit. Go back to the APN settings and switch to the one that works for LTE. However, you will now only have 2g and 3g capability with LTE disabled. This will last until reboot, airplane mode, or an option is chosen from one of the dialer methods selected above (normally, the selected bandwidth under the dialer method contains a * next to it. When disabling LTE with the APN however, when you go into it none of these are annotated with the *. You are effectively "tricking" the phone to work the way you want it.)
Correct, and sometimes if you lose lte you can re select all the lte bands, then automatic, and you'll regain your lte

[Q] Select LTE frequency band manually

Hello,
Before buying this ZenFone2, I had a Samsung S4, which had a secret menu that could be accessed through the phone dialpad to allow viewing and selecting frequency bands.
I would like to know if there is a similar test menu on the ZenFone2 that will allow me to manually select which LTE frequency band the phone is forced to use?
Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not quite what I'm looking for. I want to manually select the frequency band, not just choose LTE.
Here is a screenshot of what that looks like on a Samsung phone:
I am sure that I have seen info on this for ZF2, but now I can't find it....
I hope that by bumping this thread someone who knows will shed some light, obviously it won't allow us to select a band that is not enabled, but at least seeing which bands are enabled in a particular phone would be good!

I did try the code yes, and it brings up a menu called Testing with the following items:
Device Info
Battery Info
Useage Stats
WiFi Info
But I cannot see anywhere in these options that tells me which bands are enabled.

How to select different LTE band?

I got mine two days ago, but I am using SignalCheck Pro, it tells me I am using AWS band 4, but MetroPCS is also using T-Mobile Band 2, are there any app which allow me to manually select that band? Also how can I detect Band 12 when it is made available to us by T-Mo/google?
Here you go.
1. In the phone dialer dial: *#*#4636#*#*
2. Choose "Phone Information"
3. Press the ellipses in the upper right (three dots)
4. Choose "Select radio band"
It appears they did get VOLTE working but band 12 it's not select-able yet. I assume we'll need another update for that.

Dialler > 277634#*# opens the hidden menu
Field Test > Modem Settings > LTE BAND SELECTION > Tap Band 20.
If you're in the range of the 800 MHz the phone switch to it and will ONLY use it (until restart) or until you toggle WCDMA / LTE in the normal settings.
If you're getting No signal, go to manual network selection (do not change to WCDMA/LTE, leave it on LTE) and search for networks. If you don't see 3 RAT 4G, well, you don't have 800 Mhz.

i have a modified G4 (using your guide including the very last update changes), the OTA function can't find an update....likely MM not too far away.

OTA usually doesn't work on modified / rooted ROMS, so it's expected behaviour
ps. just checking. I can select band 20 and 4g works. if i select band 3 (1800) it keeps finding signal and unable to lock despite there being 1800 signal. does selecting band 3 work for you? is there a way of setting 4g only - so it works 800+1800 only ? (i know no volte on 1800)

hi, i have seen your previous guide on how to flash a G4 to work with 3's VoLTE
Is this still the case if i want to use VoLTE on a none 3 purchased handset ? guessing simply flashing the 3 stock ROM is not going to work?
