[Q] WiFi Power Saving opt out - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have searched and not found the changes needed so I'm posing the question here:
Is there any way we can have the WiFi power saving feature turned off as a default when using the stock rooted galaxy s4 rom?
What needs to be changed/done to achieve this? Simple?
Thanks!

Go into your settings, Wifi, press the menu button, advanced, then set Keep Wifi on During Sleep to Always.

Not sure about the USSD code since I'm on a modified kernel but I am assuming you can turn it off from the menu as well. Set it to off if you can and then reboot and open the menu and see if that setting sticks. Just curious, how is the power savings mode affecting you? If there is something specific, let me know.

How to turn of power save WiFi ?

I saw this posted somewhere, but can't seem to find it now.. someone had posted a code that you punch into the dialer to turn off power saver for WiFi, and speed up your WiFi a little. Does anyone know about this ? Thanks

Perhaps you mean this?
1. Open up the Galaxy S3 phone dialer
2. Then dial *#0011#
3. Look for the “ServiceMode” screen and press the left menu button
4. Select “WiFi”
5. You should see that the “WiFi Power Save Mode” button is “ON” – now put it on “OFF”
6. You're done! Just exit the menu, switch off your WiFi, then switch it back on again. If your router details are saved and automatically connects, get your Galaxy S3 to forget or delete the network information. Then reconnect, putting in all the required information.

My app was having problem with running with an AP from where I download video to play. I tried the workaround on my S3 and my app worked fine. However, I cannot suggest my customers to do the same. I've tried to use the WIFI_FULL_HIGH_PERFORMANCE mode, and it really did not help me. Is there a way for me to disable the wifi power save mode programmatically?
How can i turn wifi power save mode on huawei phones? They don't have those options.

I too would like to know the difference as well. I'm going to assume it will drain your battery faster, but for what advantage?

Strange, but after doing this my screen will not auto shut off after the 15s timer. I do not have smart stay enabled and the phone is not pluged in.
I will switch it back and see what happens
BTW im running FreeGS3 R5

I had that too. Just reboot and it is fixed!
Any way to save the setting? If you reboot it reverts back to power saving "on" mode.

+1 Yep. A reboot fixed it for me too.
A reboot just reverts the settings. My phone was doing the same (screen staying on) until I rebooted the phone. I then checked the settings again and it had changed back.

My S3 is not rotating!

hi guys,
i just noticed that my screen is not rotating, this has been going for a couple of days now. yes i checked the setting on the menu bar and the option is selected to allow rotation but it does not.... any tips on how to solve this?
There is a option in your pull down menu
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Go to: Settings, Display, and check box Auto-Rotate screen
Did u factory reset? First see if auto rotate in settings/display is enabled or checked
Mine was doing the same I selected it then re selected it and it started working again.

Stock internet browser app dimming?

This past week the stock Samsung internet browser app dims when opened. Then when I close it the phone goes back to the brightness level it was at before opening up the browser. only happens when using the Samsung stock browser. Anyone else having this problem?
Stock AT&T GSIII
Edit: Also wanted to add that this is not happening on my wife's GSIII.

Check display settings. There is an option to change the screen tone to reduce battery usage. Try unchecking that.

Thanks for the reply but just unchecked it and it's still doing the same thing. Even tried toggling on and off auto brightness and it still does the same thing. It's very strange.
Try turning off powesaver.

I'm chalking this up to a bug. I have a friend with an S3 with this exact problem. No amount of settings changing would fix it. I'm pondering doing a factory reset on his and seeing if that fixes the problem.
I was having the same issue. Turning off power save mode fixed it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Its not a bug. I was able to make this happen or not happen by changing a few settings, but I don't remember which ones because I'm on AOKP.
But it definitely is a battery saving feature, so turn off all battery saving stuff and then try it.

The Samsung gs3 browser has its own display brightness settings that are independent of your screen brightness settings. While in the browser press menu and you should see a screen brightness option. You can select between 3 levels of brightness or set your own slider.
Thanks everyone...I found the culprit.
For anyone else having this problem, it is under the phone settings, power saving, I unchecked "Background color" which says "Change background color to save power in internet"

Look in settings, general tab, and look for power saving.
Have a read of the user manual, look at page 23/24 at customizing the notification panel.

Hopefully somebody will be able to show you how to disable the notification.
Or you could install an cpu app that will do the same as power save, so you can turn the android one off.
Do you mind if i ask why you are running in power saving mode, I did hear that some people game in power saving mode as it keep the tablet from getting too hot.
