Any reason you have to have stock? I believe all the stock roms are just that, stock. I ran Blu Kuban for a while and it was great, but since it is not supported any longer, I left. You might be able to take a stock rom, find a de-odexed version(or make one), get the apk laying around or from another rom and push it to the system.
If you want a good stable rom with hotspot, you should try Jellyverse v4.0. i have been running it as a daily for about a month and I use my phone for work so I'm on it all day everyday.
BTW, you can make almost any TW custom rom look and act stock by installing needed bloatware, themes, icons, wallpapers, etc.

[Q] Stock rom without bloatware for S3?

Hey all,
For a while now, I have been running a very cool AOKP blend on my s3 with all the latest bells and whistles. I am getting kinda tired of all the little things that dont work on this ROM. Does anyone know if there is a ROM that is basically the stock rom of the S3 except the bloatware is removed? Ideally it would still allow for root if possible. I just need a stable ROM where everything that worked with the stock rom works here.
As always, Thanks in advanced!
You can just use Titanium Backup to freeze/remove anything you don't want in the stock ROM. If you search, I believe there are debloated stock ROMs available elsewhere on xda.

Successfully Root SGS3 4.1.1 T999

Hello, first time thread poster here
I have a Wind Mobile SGS3 T-999V with 4.1.1 Jelly bean and Im still looking for a way to successfully root my device.
Ive looked around but most of these threads comments have problems and don't work after the new Jelly Bean update that rolled out last week.
Was just looking for advice on the best way to do it (MAC preferably but Windows works too) to root my SGS3, any compatible recoveries that work on the device and any advice on ROMs that will help me save battery, get rid of bloat ware and make my phone faster and more efficient.
Thanks a lot! :cyclops:
More information of my device can be given if needed!
P.S. I actually have a few friends that are awaiting ways to do this too so any info will help about 5+ people more so than just myself!
Im just the test dummy to see if the rooting method and ROMs work!
Root just as before, no difference with jb.
I still root the same way I did on ics and works perfectly.

You can odin root66 from official firmware thread in stickies from development forum.
As to recovery there are two which I know of, twrp or cwm.
And as to rom, I recommend FrostyJB. Great rom with very good battery life (around 20h on mid-heavy use), most of bloat removed. With right kernel you can overclock it to work even faster, it's fast already. Try ktoonsez or trinity kernel. Both are confirmed to work.

Thanks a lot I tried the Root66 and it worked easily.
Will FrostyJB get rid of any of the SGS3 features such as smart stay and calling when you put the phone to your ear?
And also what do you find is the easiest way to install ClockWork Mod for it? Because ROM manager doesnt seem to have the recovery for WIND/T-MOBILE SGS3s
Thanks a lot for your help!

Things like smart stay, motion, etc. are available in FrostyJB. Like in every stock (tw) based rom. But unfortunately DJ stopped his work on that ROM and there will be no new versions, but in current release everything is stable and works great.
I have installed cwm using rom manager. It worked great for me. Are you sure you are doing everything right?

Need help installing new kernel

Hello and thank you for taking your time in reading, I will start by letting you know my samsung captivate glide is already rooted, android version 4.0.4 and stock kernel 3.1.10-I927ICLJ3-CL970642, now I found this wonderful thread in the development forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892538
mostly im interested in having more available RAM, but it does have a lot of good perks, after reading thru all 32 pages I could not find instruction on how to flash a kernel so here are my questions.
1) how do i flash a new kernel on my phone ?
2) Do i need to flash a rom as well or can i keep the stock ICS with the new kernel ?
Download and install clockworkmod .. the rest will make sense after that

Oh I forgot to mention I already have clockwork mod
not sure if you can keep the stock rom with the kernel (bone stock.) I don't see why not ... I used Dman's UCLJ3 pre-rooted rom and flashed litekernel onto it so you should be able to.
in CWM, install zip from sdcard, browse to your download folder on your phone and install it.
MAKE SURE you do a full backup first so you can revert if something doesn't pan out.

ty yohan, i see that flashing a kernel is pretty much the same as flashing a rom, I like the stock rom, how stable is Dman's ?
There's crashing issues with his AOKP lockscreen version but it could be because I installed thegreatergoods litekernel. So if you're going to download the pre-rooted debloaded deodex. etc etc.. go with the one that doesn't have the lockscreen. the 14 toggles mod will work and can be configured by quickpanel settings in apps.
One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is ICE Pop, it has a themed dialer (big plus) ... Thegreatergoods literom will be good as well, but personally I dont like the cyan and yellow colors in the messaging app.
I flashed the kernel with success but after testing it for a week I decided to go back to stock, tho speeds were amazingly fast the device was alot more unstable and I couldent handle all the crashes and reebots

[Q] Another 'help a friend' thread

Hello all, I hope I won't get too much flak for creating this thread but I'm hoping to save some time and effort if some of you are willing to help me out here.
My buddy had asked me recently if I could help him use his phone as a hotspot when he goes on vacation, and I suggested that he install a custom rom to get that function since for some reason a Sprint rep told him he couldn't do it (not sure on the whole story with that...).
Anyway, I'm not really a newbie on rooting/flashing as I have an older Galaxy S1 device that I constantly work on, but on the other hand that's about the only device I have experience with.
My questions are:
1) Is rooting/installing a custom rom the best way for him to use his phone as a hotspot? It seems to be built into every rom that I've had on my device.
2) What are the most popular (and stable) roms available for this device? I'm asking because I won't see him enough to flash updates and he's not really the type to do that.
3) Are there any serious risks to rooting/flashing this device? I'm spoiled with my older Galaxy S1 phone that has no problem going from rom to rom like it was it's job. He'll probably be upgrading soon, but I still don't want to break it.
Thanks for any input. Oh and I don't know if this matters, but I'm almost positive he's on stock ICS right now.
1. The hotspot app won't work on stock because he needs the plan with sprint to use it. There are 3rd party apps out there that can use your phone as a hotspot. Most roms have the wifi hotspot check disabled so you can use the app the rom came with. Be warned if sprint catches you tethering too much data they could cut you off.
2. Maybe look into the blu kuban rom. It's very stable, awesome battery life, and looks awesome. It also has a built in updater in case there is an update.
3. If you read the instructions you should be fine. There's really no downside besides the emmc brick bug which can render your phone useless but most (if not all) kernels have this patched. Also remember that this phone has the recovery image packed with the kernel.
Hope this helps.

If you install stock/rooted gb27 jb you can use the EmperorX 4g hot spot mod.
Look up Emperor X in apps and themes, its not too complex to get working.

The blu kuban rom looks good, but I didn't see any JB roms that looked all that great (feel free to correct me) and I see that Cyanogenmod doesn't officially support this device for some reason. Are there any mostly stable 4.1 or 4.2 roms that you would recommend or is ICS the way to go?
edit: I wasn't looking in the 'original development' forum and just noticed there's a lot of good 4.2 roms that I'm used to like slim, AOKP, etc, now my question is if I wanted to flash a new rom is it the same as I do on my phone- wipe data/cache/davlik then flash rom/gapps and reboot? Is it that simple on this phone too?

If you have CWM 5 (gb or cm9) or CWM 6 (AOSP-based jellybean) you can just flash rom and gapps in recovery
If you do not have CWM 5 or 6 (anything touchwiz ICS+), you should use Mobile Odin or (less conveniently) PC Odin to flash the EL26+cwm kernel, then boot to recovery by holding vol+ and power. You can flash anything in EL26 recovery without incident

goi g from 4.1.2 to 4.4.4 aosp Rom

So I took a long break from flashing my phone. I just want to get a newer stock android Rom on the phone. Not touchwiz Rom. Do I just download and flash the Rom? Up to date bootloader just for touchwiz based Rom correct?
All I know is I have 4.1.2 now. I317m. It's rooted of course and some kind of custom Rom. It's been a loong time
If you go on Cyanogenmod's website they have a installer that is really easy
I don't have a computer access right now. Or very often at all.
Also if I go to a kitkat touchwiz Rom I just have to flash the proper kernel for wifi to work? Is this consistent across all Roms I'd be looking to flash?
