[Q] Detailed Instructions for a total noobie :) - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys.
I am a brand new Android user and a total noob when it comes to the whole terminology here (ROMs,Kernel, flash etc). I've been reading a lot and i got better i must say,but i still need to ask some questions and get some instructions.
I have a Samsung Galaxy ACE II - GTI 8160
The phone is rooted,i have SuperSU and this is the info bout the phone.
Firmware : I8180XXMF1
Kernel : 3.0.31D-K_v1.RC15
Android Version : 4.1.2. (official)
I'd like to flash a new ROM,and more specifically the 10.1 CM.
My questions are. Does the current firmware and Kernel version that my phone has, meet the requirements to flash the new ROM right away?
Even if they do,shall i "upgrade" Kernel to something better to increase performance (since i dont think i can upgrade firmware, couldnt find a newer Greek version).
New ROM will support Greek language normally?
Is there anything else i should notice before starting the procedure?
I'd appreciate some specific step to step instuctions of what should i do before flashing,if ofcourse there is something i should do.
Thank u in advance and sorry if there is a similar topic and i missed it

You're not the only one
Don't have any fear about putting on a custom ROM, just follow the instructions carefully and double check you've downloaded the right gapps file. I've done it a fair few times now, and any problems I've had have been sorted by reading this forum.

Thanx a lot for ur responses guys. I'll try to read more before i do it,just to be absolutely sure about my moves.

[Q] ICS or CM 7.2 on Defy+

First, i would like to congratulate every xda-developer for making this place.
My problem-
I want to install custom ROMs on my, 3 months old, phone DEFY+ (simple right??).
Thing is, i tried reading some threads related to "installing custom ROMs on DEFY+" but they all seem to leave a lot of unanswered question.
Here are my phone's specs-
rooted
system version - 45.0.891.MB526
Android version - 2.3.4
Kernel - 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e
Build No. - 4.5.1-134_DFP-891
Burning points-
1. One thread suggests that kernel that came with android 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 are too uncommon and most of the CUSTOME ROMS are compatible with 2.3.6
Solution: ?? should i update my android version
2. Some threads suggest once i install custom ROM on defy+ i can't go back to stock rom
3. this thread say that you can get stuck on stock firmware after going back to stock firmware
4. Will i be able to access my purchased apps from the google play?
Can someone please guide us (defy+ owners) on how to install ICS or CM7.2, minimizing the mortal danger of bricking our precious.
A list of latest roms available for DEFY+ would be a bonus for us.
Thanks for reading. Please Help!

4. Yes, don't worry. Your Google Play purchases are tied to your Google account, so they will be accessible with any Android ROM/phone that uses the account on which they were bought. So, as long as you won't forget your account password and use an Android phone, they'll stick with you (even if they're not compatible with your new phone, they'll still be there) .
1. if u do update...then flash only those sbf's before DFP 188.....coz dfp 188'231 etc have bl7 ....n root access has not yet been acquired.....n since 2.3.6 would be better than 2.3.4 dun worry....i would suggest this coz this is what i use....
2. u can if u hav the right sbf.....or...make a nandroid backup of ur stock rom ....(which would obviously be rooted)
4. i think yes...because purchased apps are linked to ur google account and not to the phone.
5. maybe a thousand guides r available...sigh....try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100.....
ps. if u get any update binary errors while installation....try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540372....but this happened to ME.....i was on 2.3.6 n made a couple of mistakkes...now it works....1!!!!
Can some one please post a simple step by step guide for installing custom roms on defy+ (specifications mentioned in my first post).
I have really tried but its so confusing.
At present my phone is rooted and nothing more (no boot menu, CWM, etc.)
Please help!!

[Q] how to flawlessly install or update roms?

hi there guys.
before posting this question i searched for my problem and i couldnt find a solution, i hope someone out there had the same problem and can help a noob.
-i have a gt 7105 unlocked generic.
-rooted
-twrp 2.4.1
-custom rom (cleanRom, 4.5 (congrats to the developer by the way))
problem is, i can install with no problem the 4.5 version, ALTHOU there is a new version 4.6.1 that i just cant install.
on the recovery everything is fine ( of course i do clean flash, wipe cash, format etc) but then i get stuck with the "samsung gt 7105" boot screen.
guys, i think i am missing something, and its buggin me. thanks for reading, any help is welcome. ( sorry if im forgetin to post more info)
ps: i also have a xperia arc, (lupus kernel), with custom rom ( xperia ultimate HD 2.0.3) THAT i am also unable to update/flash a newer version(3.0)!! i think the problem can be related, so i mentioned it.
There is no template way to install or update roms. It must be specified by the dev as to how to update the rom or install it.
It varies with the degree of mods.
You can try changing to appropriate kernels and doing a data wipe.

yes, you are right, and i did as the dev recomended, more than 3 times. i forgot to mention that my kernel is the latest perseus. which is used also by some in conjuction with cleanRom. what is buggin me is that i have no problems with instaling the previous version (4.5).
is it possible that not having the latest TWRP be the source of the problem??
thanks in taking the time to reply

Welcome to Android!
I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun
Typically you'll find a tab saying root info for each phone model in the forum. However, these tabs (same for ROMs) are typically not as updated as the forum threads. You'll find most info/guides for that kind of stuff in general, seeing how in most cases in concerns the phone in general, more-so than a specific development for the phone (such as a specific phone).
Make sure you carefully read the original post for each software seeing how different softwares can only be used in certain situations. For example, the LG G3 comes in different models, and some software only work for the specific ones, some things are developed for certain android versions (such as lollipop vs. kitkat), some softwares are developed for stock-based roms, and some are developed for aosp-based roms, and the list goes on.
It's not as complicated as it sounds, and it doesn't take as long as you might imagine to get settled, but it takes some getting used to.
To answer your specific questions:
1 )how to root

1. After you've rooted your phone, you need to install a custom recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298, check Q4).
2. When done with that you download a [ROM (whatever the rom is called)].zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772658), and typically Gapps, and place on SD card.
3. Boot into recovery, and wipe the phone (I usually go for factory reset/make fresh install + wipe cache + wipe Dalvik-cache)
4. Now you need to flash the ROM + gapps. Do that by install zip --> install from SD card --> click the [ROM].zip (and then gapps)
5. Reboot and enjoy!

I'll admit that I have not read the specifics of each thread I've linked, so make sure that it applies to you before you go about and install stuff (by reading first post in each thread). Also, how you install might differ a little from rom to rom, so only use my instructions as additional instructions to the instructions typically written in the first post for each rom/software.
Note! Everytime you go about fiddling with the phone you do run the risk of bricking it. However, the risk of hard bricking your phone is quite slim as long as you read up a bit before messing about. On top of that, if anything would happen, such as a bootloop or soft bricking, just keep it cool. It happens to all of us from time to time, and I'll bet you that the very same thing you did wrong, has happened to someone before you, so just search the threads (starting with the thread it relates to). If you feel like playing safe, I would suggest you start off with one of the more established ROM-devs, such as CM.
I hope this helps!
Thank you munte89 for all your answers.i hope all this can help me.I have one more question.
LG G3 has 2 versions.16 GB & 32 GB .Is the firmware same for both or has each device his own firmware ??

Tip for the future: check out the pinned threads in each sub-forum because they typically pin threads concerning questions that arise often (such as how to get started)

No worries! I know it can be difficult getting started
Well, it's different firmwares sometimes (eg different stocks). This is typically clearly pointed out in the instructions if that is the case. I have not encountered that where it comes to the custom ROMs, except for making sure you have the right model (eg D855). After you've installed a new ROM, you might want to go to settings --> about phone to check the information for any clues of using the wrong software.

sm-t110 (only root or install rom?)

Hello everyone,
this is my first post in this forum, so i'm excusing in advance if this is the wrong place for this post.
I have a samsung tab sm-t110 which is very slow on every action. I try to format it, but I see no improvement. I then look around to know a little about root and roms.
I read several thread in this forum and i have some question.
1) I'd like to speed up my tablet and remove unnecessary apps, do I just need to root it? If yes, can you confirm is this thread the one I need to follow carefully?
2) What action do you suggest to do after?
3) If you think it would be better use a rom, which one do you suggest?
Sorry if my questions are silly, I'm new and wish to know better this world before starting manipulating my devices
And thanks to whoever will spent his time answering
As far your device, you should first root it . And thn use 3rd party soft wares to delete the unnecessary apps. This will help a lot and you can also download Lineage for your device .
I root the device successfully
Thanks for the clean and easy-to-follow guide (can't write in the thread, it's closed)
For now I'll try using the rooted device with some app.
Really last question for now, what would be the best ROM? The Lineage OS that seems will be out for the end of July?
Its cynogenmod

Galaxy j6+ Android 10 TWRP and downgrade

Hy,
i, got a Samsung Galaxy j6+ (SM-J610 FN) that was before automatic updatet to Android 10.
So i want use it for me now and want to root and change to a Twrp recovery and any custom Rom.
-----
I had the last years many devices as Sony, HTC, and older Samsung and nevertime i had so much problems to understand and also start to flash Twrp and any rom... Yust now with this device i starting cracy :-(
-----
So the problem to understand proper/my questions (my english isn,t very well):
1. i read now nearly two day,s a lot of treads ther and on other Forums. And i starting realy confused now becaus it seems al lot of problems with newer Android System (and also Bootloader) to flash and permanently root,...
2. as i read: something on Android 10 dont want work (is broken) after Twrp/root or have other problems,...?
3. If the TWRP is flashed with existing Android 10, only Magisk is then flashed (with TRWP or ODIN) not: RMM_BYPASS_V3_CORSICANU.ZIP and not J4 + J6 + _oreo_forced_encryption_disabler.zip. Is that right?
4. So, also i read things about the existing bootloader Version that must be have to do this? I have now U2.
must i have a higher version? So many things make me realy unsure what i have to care bevor i can flash some rom e.g.
###################
So what I had made before (already):
1. Set the device back to factory setting ...
2. unlocked OEM
Then i wanted flash TWRP (and i also try,d to flash stock-Rom first after it not work,...) but everything dont want work about Odin failed e.g....
3. Did I find that the bootloader State Prenormally stood ---> I have now fixed that with date. That should fit now.
############
What i wont to do:
Preferably downgrade to Android 9 (or 8?), as the device with Android 10 is very slow now. :-(
- Flash TWRP
- Flash Magisk (get root)
- Flash Resurrection Remix (vx.x.x.) for Samsung Galaxy J6+
(????BUT I NOT SURE WHITCH ANDOID VERSION IT IS????)
- (or) Flash lineage-17.1-20200318-UNOFFICIAL-j6primelte
(????BUT THIS IS ANDOID VERSION 10 ALSO IS,NT IT ????)
*If there a good stable Version Rom with Android 9 or 8 so where/which,...?
And if i can flash to downgrade must i then flash the files: RMM_BYPASS_V3_CORSICANU.ZIP and J4 + J6 + _oreo_forced_encryption_disabler.zip? And when then in which way?
After TWRP (before Magisk), or after downgrade already,...?
--------------------
So i have a lot of Questions here, i know, sorry and somewhere it can read part,s of this, but i,m not sure what right for me . :-(
But there many treads now from 2018 til yet and it isn,t easy for me to understand, or better to find the right information's for me in this case (Android 10, downgrade,........ which Rom,....)
I would be very happy if someone can tell me understandable as I have to do exactly and which files are really needed to successfully downgrade with root on Android 9 (or 8?) and maybe even which Rom is recommended. Thanks for the time to have read this here.
Regards, paulhu
As I don't know the version, you can follow this video on YT, I hope it helps you.
Hello @hakli,
many thanks for your response.
Which version do you mean? The Galaxy J6 is: Galaxy SM J610FN / DS.
Thanks for the video, it's certainly very helpful.
What confused me most is with the two files that have to be flashed in a TWRP TREAD stood that it is not needed at Android 10, but there was no feedback from other users and in other places it's about it?
As far as the downgrade is concerned, another thing again ....
Greetings, Paulhu

I will honest with you, it is not easy to install twrp on j6+ (any version) watch every vid on YT. but follow the video and install the stock rom, and there will be a file called , you have to follow and use the magisk app to root the phone. Sorry for the late reply. I am kind a busy.
And I don't know where do you live, if you are an American , Italian or Indian. once I know , then I can embed the video that you can follow, First follow the above video and install the stock rom from sam mobile. You can PM me too.
