Sgh-t999 MHL cable - Galaxy S III Accessories

I recently bought an MHL cable from amazon.com and was trying to use it on my galaxy s3 . I was using CyanogenMod and I was told to go to back to TouchWiz because AOSP does not support MHL. I did that and I still can't get video or audio to my television . Could it be an issue with the cable I bought? It's not officially from Samsung but it had pretty good overall reviews also do I have to use a TouchWiz ROM or should I revert back to the stock Samsung ROM to test it that way?
Link to the one I bought....
Amazon.Com/gp/aw/d/B009XGLZPQ/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=pe_385040_30332190_TE_tr_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

Have you connected a charger to the adapter?

Yes I did, it provided a cable that connected to the wall outlet, had to provide my own power source there. Should it completely work on all TW based roms? It could have been defective, as there are some negative reviews for that reason.

[Q] MHL Adapter not working

I bought an MHL adapter from amazon and i connected it to my tv and it doesn`t work. I connected it to power, Ive rebooted my phone several times and still couldn't get it to work.
Any suggestions?

hmmm if everything is plugged in.. it should be detected right away... could it be a rom or kernel issue? undervolted kernel might cause problems because welll not enough volts obviously. a couple weeks back using faux kernel.. i couldn't use anything below -25 volts to keep a steady display.
I've had the same problem running non stock roms and kernels. My buddy has a stock SGS2 tried it worked, tried mine nothing. Try going back to stock or at least a stock rom. I just ordered my MHL adapter and are currently running Mr. X stock rom with darkside kernel, when i get my shipment ill report back. Hope this helps.
S...
Ive tried going back to the stock rom but had no luck.
My tv seems to recognize that something is plugged in, it just wont display properly. I reset the settings on my tv but that didnt work either. Hmmmm

As simple as turning on & off the tv.
I bought a cheap mlh adapter and a cheap hdmi cable from ebay and had neither the phone or the tv recognize each other. The solution was to plug in the power to the mlh adapter first, then plug it into the phone second; then turn the TV on with it switched to the correct hdmi source and finally, plug the hdmi cable into the mlh adapter. But sometimes I still have to sleep(standby screen) the phone and wake it before it work even with this method. I tried plugging and unplugging these components a few different ways but this was the one that work for me and has continued to work every time. Hope this helps.
Try plugging everything in, then rebooting your phone while it's hooked up to your tv.
Ive tried everything i can think of. Mabey the adapter is bad.

get the monoprice adapter, good and inexpensive.. unless you got it from there.. probably bad adapter lol
Easy to check
I would try plugging the power cord into the mlh adapter then into your phone, if you get power to the phone it might suggest that your hdmi cable is the culprit. If you get power to your sgs2 then I would try switching out the hdmi cable with another to rule out the cable as the bad egg. If both the mlh adapter and the cable test good then one last test would be to switching out which hdmi port you are using by changing the cable to another hdmi port. The last check is unlikely but I am just trying to cover all the bases.
This is just my two cents but sending back products tend to increase cost and adds up quickly. I tend to try every available avenue before returning products. The comment about Monoprice selling this adapter is right on, as this where i got mine for dirt cheap. Good luck with what ever you decide.
need any and all the help i can
I have a samsung galaxy s infuse 4g ... and a sony brava tv... i have bought 2 mhl adapters and 2 hdmi cables .. hooked them up in as many orders as possible as well as turning the phone off and on but still nothing does anyone have any sugestions to help make this work ???
Sounds crazy but if all else fails.
You could use the og adapter. I found on samsungs website http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EIA2UHUNBEGSTA
And i check if your phone the Infuse was compatible which it is. Last ditch effort take the phone and the adapters to your retail store and see if they can get them to work. Sorry, if these suggestions are not better than my above comments, but I can't think of any other measures to try. Hope you get the problem solved.

Did you plug power into the adapter? It needs a power source, so plug your charger into the side of it ...
Yes i hooked it up the same way as the youtube video and i also called samsung tech suport and they said that what i was doing it should work...do you think my luck is that bad that i bought 2 faulty mhl adapters??

[Q] Best MHL Adapter for Galaxy Nexus i9250 (Google Play GSM model)?

Title says it all
I will say the original one,
serach for EIA2UHUNBEC or EPL-3FHUBEG, the EPL-3FHUBEG is for S3, but will work with Nexus.
BTW if you itrested in dock, try that:
http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1356
http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1355
and buy a cheap MHL adapter
Thanks! I found this one by Samsung. Going to get this one probably.

With MHL, do I need an actual HDMI cable to combine with it? Or would it just connect the MHL from my phone directly to my tv?

You need a hdmi cable and a power source (the phones wall charger) plugged into the mhl adapter I believe.

I am looking to buy the EPL-3FHUBEG for my Nexus. Is it certain that it will work with the Nexus ?
Hello, I purchased the Samsung MHL adapter (EIA2UHUNBEC) from Amazon.com some time ago when I originally purchased my Galaxy Nexus.
I never actually got it to work, when I plug it in with the HDMI to my TV or monitor + wall charger the phone just reboots, and then it just remains in a boot loop until i disconnect the MHL adapter.
Please note is that my Galaxy Nexus is a original NTT docomo SC-04D, but as far as I know it is supposed to be the same hardware as the GT-i9250.
Anyone have this problem, I've tried it on custom roms (CM/AOKP/Minco) and stock roms from 4.0.4 to 4.2.1.
Bought EPL-3FHUBEGSTA
And it didn't work with Galaxy Nexus. I'll try again...but no big hopes.

mhl adaptor

do you have to turn this feature on?
i have bought one from maplins but nothing comes up on the telly the screen on the S2 flips on its side but it dosent seem to be outputting anything
I am having the exact same issue. Just bought one and nothing is outputting o.o I'm using Simplistic Rom V with Siyah
Custom ROMs don't support MHL you need an official Samsung ROM for it to work.

Ive been using mhl with asop and a siyah based kernel (Dorimanx) and works fine for me.
hello
I just recieved a 10$ MHL adaptor bought on ebay.
For connection the adaptor I use a 1.4 hdmi cable which support HDMI CEC (anynet) as it was normally plugged to a diffrent device.
After connecting the MHL to TV, power the MHL with a samsung charger and connecting the S2 the HDMI "source" is active but it displays error that there is no signal.
WHAT is the problem?? Doese anybody have a clue what`s happenning?
TV Samsung 46D6750
S2: Samsung stock rom 4.0.3 LPW, SiyahKernel S2 v4.1.3
Oh ok then, I was under the impression custom ROMs didnt support it due to lack of source code. Awesome that you found one that does
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Mind possibly pointing me in the direction of a Custom ROM that supports a MHL cable?
everything works . all it was needed was an restart .
performance of the cheap adapter is very good ... to bad that the galaxy SII has so low resolution, a 720p screen would be better so that playing games would look good. Now its rather a mix of pixels and not so good colors... same is with the original Samsung adapter

[Q] Note II MHL > HDMI issues

Hi all.
I've searched for similar questions and can't find anything that gives me an answer... so here goes.
Model number: GT-N7100 (Samsung Galaxy Note 2)
Android version: 4.1.1
Modifications: None.
Problem:
- Connect MHL cable to phone.
- Connect power
- Connect HDMI to tv & MHL
- Phone pops up a message on screen advising that HDMI connection has been made.
- No output from phone to tv.
I tried originally with the wrong MHL cable designed for a Galaxy S2 (established this thanks to a post I found on here, thanks). Then replaced with one designed for the S3 which should (according to what i read) also work with the Note2.
Am I missing something here?
The cable used was from Amazon and is not a samsung original part. But before spending more money to get the samsung part i want to be sure i exhausted all options with the cheaper alternative.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

my theory is it has something to do with all share cast
I bought a 'generic' adapter at first, did not work. Ended up going with the Samsung adapter...worked fine...
make sure yr MHL cable/adaptor is compatible for note2/s3, they use different pins with older model
Hi all.
Thanks for the replies. [will do the whole thanks button thing in a minute].
I threw the adapter in a drawer for the weekend and pulled it back out this morning to have another crack at it.
Its the cheap n nasty adapter that is at fault. I shoved the connector into the bottom of the phone really hard this time, and instead of black, the tv screen went green. All green. A bit of jiggling later and i had phone output on the tv, but its a very sketchy connection and a slight knock loses the connection, even though the phone still thinks the cable is connected still.
Only problem then is that there is no audio coming through the tv. All phone settings suggest there should be.
So i went upstairs to try on another tv, and it works perfectly with video and audio (once the cable is rammed home good and hard).
Problem solved. For now, it will do. But I will at some point be investing in the genuine samsung part that should do the job properly. And a new TV for the living room ~ current one is old and was a budget model at the time, so you can imagine how bad it is by todays standards.
Hi, can you help to check if the camera apps work when you use mhl ?
Im using the sprint gn2 do I go with the same step when connecting mhl adapter? Before you connect to television is the phone suppose to be charging? I think I have to buy the right one .I bought mine amazon from china and still have not hooked it up to my tv yet. Can there be a problem with phone? Its new never dropped

i just got my samsung MHL adapter which is for the S3 but supposedly should work with note 2 also.
when i connect the hdmi cable and the power cable and then connect it to my phone i see a popup "hdmi cable cvonnected"
however,
my monitor (Dell 2408WFP) just goes into sleep mode.
i also tried another monitor.. same thing.
i'm on android revolution with perseus kernel... which is just a modded stockrom.
i have not made a samsung account so i don't have any of the samung specific apps activated... could this be the problem?
do you need to have that sharecast or whatever to be activated first in order to get the TV out functionality?
I bought Samsung MHL adapter last month for HTC One X and it works fine even without connect the phone to charging.
I just tried that to my new Note 2 and it doesn't work at all.. already try to charge the phone still not showing anything not even a notification saying my note2 connected to the hdmi...

ok.. i decided to actually create a samsung account and installing the all-share cast app hoping this would finally make the mhl work..
but alas..
same thing..
i connect power, mhl en and hdmi cable.... set monitor to look for hdmi signal...
phone then gives me the 'hdmi adapter connected' message and then the monitor goes into energy saving mode...
i guess my adapter is faulty.... it is supposedly a genuine brand new samsung adapter but i got it from ebay hongkong or china or whatever... so... well... you know..
i think i will order the wireless all-share hub in stead...
Are you rooted? I've read that hml doesn't work if you are.

well yeah... if getting a wireless allshare cast hub instead for 80 bucks is a solution.. then yes.. i guess it's solved..
by the way,
yes.. i have root.. where did you read that a rooted phone prevents the MHL adapter from properly working?
do you have a link or something?
in that case i could still try to persuade the Android Revolution HD Rom developer to look into the issue...

Try it using the 5V - 2A charger, i have read, somewhere i forgot, that 2A is a must for being able to use MHL.
I can't say if it is true or not, i'm atill waiting all stuff be delivered (All-share cast hub, MHL adapter, Smart Dock, etc).
Good luck

For me the MHL cable worked well with easy disconnections (any minimal movement). But I used it with the bloutooh mouse and so I didn't feel so much the issue.
Now the note 2 doesn't reveal the cable. I plug it in and nothing happens.
I don't remember if I changed ROM before the issue but it's sure I always had a custom ROM.
Can be a ROM problem?
I will try the MHL cable with my father's s3 and let you know if is a cable issue.
EDIT:
SORRY GUYS, IS A CAVE PROBLEM. ITS DEAD
I have rooted my device also. Come to think of it, this might just be the issue. Rooted with exynosabuse gonna try to unroot and see if it works. Still want it to work with root though because i use the sixaxis to play games..
Once u unrrot your note 2 did it work with the mhl cable

HDMI adapter compatible with SM-600 model?

Hi all, new user for galaxy note 10.1 2014 version.. thanks for the threads, very useful info..
As I have trouble finding the Samsung compatible adapter through amazon or ebay in the UK, should I assume that any 11 pin HDMI adapter is compatible? should I look for adapter for Galaxy note 3 or the Galaxy S3?
Thanks a lot!!
Look for the mhl 2.0 adapter from samsung. It's branded "for galaxy s4/s5". Just make sure it's mhl 2.0. I have it and it works very good, outputs 1080p/60fps and it works without connecting power.
looks like this: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-H10FAUWESTA
Thanks for the prompt response Clouds5..
I have trouble finding that specific adapter you posted.. even Samsung has run out ..
However, I find many cables with s/n ET-H10FAUWEGWW... The one you have posted is the ET-H10FAUWEGUJ.. Should I assume that these adapter are the same? I am in the uk, maybe this is s/n for the international market? Essentially anything in the ET-H10FAU family is the same, provided of course that it is branded as MHL 2.0 adapter and suitable for galaxy S4/5 as you point out?
Thanks..

Look at Amazon.uk for Samsung MHL 2.0 and pick a geniune one. Alot of fakes around and read the comments. Reak MHL 2.0 dont need power source and fakes ones needs.
ex might be real: (read comments)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-ET-...d=1397297202&sr=8-63&keywords=Samsung+MHL+2.0
Might be fake: (read comments, delivered from China = mostlty fakes)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Sam...id=1397297537&sr=8-2&keywords=Samsung+MHL+2.0
I did bought a cheap MHL 2.0 from ebay, seller was from China and it did works for a while. It also needed powersource to work, after a while and aspect ratio become weird. So it was a fake one for 6 US only.
Decide to buy new one from mine country and it didnt needed any powersource connected to MHL 2.0 adapter. It was cheap, just 20 bucks deal back then and also described for Galaxy S5, even back then S5 wasnt even announced and lucky it was genuine from Samsung.
Real and fake have different weights too. There is a thread about real vs fakes MHL 2.0.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412756
The fake from ebay I bought was indeed around 26 gram and real one with 20 bucks deal weights 42 gram.
Thank you dt33.. I have just ordered the adapter you pointed out - I had it already in my Amazon basket assuming that it is a genuine one..
I also read the thread about genuine/fakes.. looks like that unless it comes directly from Samsung, then it is a gamble..
I will test it, weight it and report back with the s/n.. hopefully it will help someone facing the same problem.
Thanks,
Achilleas
I bought this one per recommendation of another XDA user. Works as it should for now.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331104244157?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
All good
To complete the thread and potentially help future buyers from the UK....
I bought the Samsung ET-H10FAUWESTA which turned out to be the ET-H10FAUWEGWW... bottomline: all the genuine variations of the ET-H10FAU cable seems to work for our model.. and no need to be plugged in so all good..
Thanks all for the help.

Wait a second here. Are you saying that your tablet charges only through the mhl connector without being connected to the wall plug? If this is the case, it receives power through the hdmi cable?! This is really strange. I didn't know hdmi could offer the needed current for our tablet to charge!!! To be sincere I don't think this actually works. You probably need the wall plug to be connected to the mhl for it to actually charge the tablet.
