Since I know Nexus 5 skins aren't really available yet I wanted to share the EXOSkin
Not only is it available now but it also has 1 piece to cover the back for a clean and more protective finish

Debrand or die!!! J/K

I'm curious to hear from anyone who gets one. The aluminum and teak ones look pretty nice.

These seem nice as well but I've never tried any skins apart from dbrand. Primarily this has been because postage is $11.49 to my country. However, having used dbrand and read about them/seen them on my friends devices, I don't think I'm missing out. These may be a couple of dollars cheaper but the dbrand skins are definitely very precise/high quality.

dbrands marketing is a little misleading, their whole process is over-exaggerated as far as creating a skin goes as well as their "quality".

You work at dbrand How do you know?
I only know that their skins are extremely precise. And the adhesive is real 3M thing.

Not to disrespect dbrand (I actually had one of their skins for my Nexus 4 and it was great), but you are right. It's quite bizarre to see everyone go crazy over dbrand. I find the whole "bot" creative process quite silly..and yes, it's uniqueness is also quite exaggerated when you see that it looks identical to the skin you've mentioned.
That said, it's still an excellent brand as far as quality goes and I also like their low cost international shipping.

I know how the process works. You measure the skin, make adjustments, and repeat until you get a nice fit. Per dbrand, they remeasure and cut their skins 1000 times when creating a skin. If this is true then they need to hire a new designer as this process takes only a few hours.
Also, 3M vinyl is available to anyone not just dbrand

It's quite apparent that they use marketing as their X-factor when differentiating their brand, but yea, most screen protectors and cheaper cases are usually sourced from the same factories unless they're a huge company and can afford to do their own R&D.

Really? A few hours? Perhaps you need to try a little harder. I've been there for those 50 hour binges where our "designers" go through (over) one thousand revisions to achieve a flawless fit.

Yes they have great marketing and some may see it as silly/overhyped etc. Some find it hilarious and it creates brand loyalty etc. They clearly make a lot of money as well. Anyway, all that aside...taking emotion and all that away and looking at the product itself. All I know is that the skins they make are bl00dy good. I've had my Nexus 4 skin on for more than 6 months. As an honest consumer here, I'll admit that the e peeled off a bit but the skin itself is as good today as it was the minute I received it. I have had my phone in sports bags etc and am a heavy user. So if I'm looking at the product for what it is, it's great quality. Of course nobody is saying that everyone must purchase dbrand. There are choices. Each to their own but I don't think it's fair to question their processes and things that we know nothing about (factually).
I'm not a dbrand employee or anything so not going to get into the other aspects. Just trying to help consumers from a purely product pov.
nexus 4 application video, looks pretty good I wanna try it but I also have a dbrand white CF on preorder

Umm if I remember correctly from my samsung galaxy nexus days, pmoradi works for Xgear so I doubt they have to buy anything from XGear.
What I will say is that I don't understand questioning a products quality without ever testing it for yourself. I can confirm one thing though, 3m material is definitely not exclusive to dbrand nor has dbrand ever claimed as such (other than the Ferrari red carbon fiber). Thus it is completely conceivable that another company would also use 3M material negating any advantage in material other than color choice. So the only remaining value is in the quality of cut and price. Whose to say one is better than the other without comparing both products in hand.
I suspect dbrand would certainly encourage this considering that precision is their largest selling point. Also wanted to say that I find it incredibly impressive that during the fitting process for dbrand that the measuring bots can cut, measure and make adjustments for each "practice" skin every 3 minutes continuous for over 50 hours. That is efficiency and/or crazy amounts of manpower. :good:
Personally I like the color choices from xgear better (the blue brushed steel looks awesome in person in my opinion) but I like the three piece design of dbrand because I really only like the back piece and the xgear is a one piece design for back and side.

So I was searching on eBay for cases or skins for my new phone, and came across some knock-off DecalGirl.com carbon fiber skins that looked terrible - then I thought to myself.... "Self, I can do this on my own with some scrap 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber I have lying around!"
And so I did, and my Galaxy S now has hidden buttons, AT&T and Samsung branding removed, and is MUCH easier to grip since the 3M Di-Noc material is TEXTURED just like real carbon fiber! What do you think?

Before anyone asks.....
I got the live wallpaper from HERE!
For anyone wondering why I didn't do the aluminum battery cover.... this vinyl CAN make the item you're wrapping trap in the heat, and the sides and top don't expel heat like the battery cover does. With over 9 years in the business of doing vinyl graphics, I have a LITTLE knowledge on the subject....
I am not taking any commissions on doing this to your phone, sorry.... the other vinyls available on eBay will just have to do because this stuff is too expensive and this was too time consuming to do for any customer, plus, I am NOT soliciting my services on here to do it, so don't ask! I do this professionally and install the material, I do NOT sell it for you to buy. Google it if you want this for yourself, but expect to spend well over the 2 hours this took me to do if you don't have any experience. Don't forget your heat gun and X-Acto knife with lots of fresh blades!
Again, all the buttons function exactly as they did from the factory. I have NO issues with this, so don't try and bash this concept because you think the buttons don't work - if they didn't work, I wouldn't leave this on! FUNCTION over FORM
I am a carbon fiber junkie - if this isn't your thing, that's okay! I appreciate you being able to appreciate my hard work on my day off, finally....
Nice job! I think it looks pretty slick.
That looks absolutely amazing. I wish I could do something like that, but about the only experience I have putting plastics on my phones is the zagg/etc screen protectors...

I can't say I am a big fan of carbon fiber and that would not have been my choice.
That being said, it looks very well done and you can tell that a lot of time was put into it. That's a custom piece that would be great to flash about. Well done!
Other patterns that would be interesting; wood, stitching, or a nice riveted rusty metal plating.
I think the pattern is too big. If it would be smaller like the battery cover it would be x10 better.
BTW, did you see this one yet?

I just posted a response about my skinomi experience a couple hours ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747933
I had no idea that skinomi had anything but "clear" for the captivate. I would have got something different, had I known. Nice to know for future purchase...
Thanks for the comments! 3M Di-Noc does sell other patterns including wood and brushed metals, I believe, but when it comes to high-tech, nothing beats carbon fiber, IMO. As my grandfather used to say, "for different tastes, they invented colors"
The pattern is a standard 2 x 2 carbon fiber weave. When matched up with my other carbon products that I've made sure to buy only 2 x 2's, it looks to be right around the same size, but I see what you're getting at when it comes to the difference between it and the aluminum battery cover. Prior to installing the carbon vinyl, I have been told a few times that "the battery cover even looks like carbon fiber!" by friends who know how much I love the material. Now, and while I was installing the vinyl, I noted that it looks more like a flat checkerboard pattern, and the contrast between the two looks a little more aesthetic to me, personally. My 80GB Zune has a pattern on it that is similar to this skin from eBay:
Which was the only carbon fiber skin available for the Zune at the time, but I hate the small, tight weave on it. I believe that carbon should look 3D and have strands large enough to see the actual pattern on it, not be so tight that it really does look like a checkerboard with no depth to the weave! This one would have been a better choice for me if I didn't have this in stock and didn't have the time to do it myself yesterday:
but printed-on vinyl being what it is with no texture to it..... I still would have been disappointed by the outcome (and also wonder where the Galaxy S logo went to on the battery cover!). I remember back in 1997 when I bought my first roll of printed-on carbon fiber vinyl and thought it was so cool, putting it all over the interior of my car! I look back at those pictures and I'm thankful for how far 3M decided to take it 12 years later when they released Di-Noc last year and I bought 30 yards of it immediately!
I think the application is phenomenal, and although I'm not a huge fan of carbon fiber, I can appreciate the fact that you used REAL carbon fiber. Congrats, looks sick.

well.... it is still not REAL carbon, the 3M Di-Noc material is the only vinyl used that has both 3D effects and texture - many printed carbon vinyls may have 3D or some textured vinyl may look close, but none have both like this does and look as real as it gets - thanks though!
Great job I think it looks fantastic. I do however like the buttons at the bottom visible, but covering up the Samsung logo would be nice ;P

Yep, my wrap covers both logos on the front, including the softkeys. They don't stay on long enough to be worth anything, and after using for 3 weeks now, I know where they are
Pretty awsome
3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber Vinyl
I covered the battery door of my TMOUSA HD2 with Di-Noc and it came out great. I purchased a 4"x8" sample for $8 and it's enough to do 2 HD2 battery doors.
I plan on covering the center console of my 2004 Mazda 6 with the same material. The Di-Noc looks great and is very easy to work with. Using a heat gun or hair dryer allows you to easily cover corners and odd shapes.
I think you did an EXCELLENT job on your Galaxy S. If I would have known about Di-Noc a couple of months ago I would have covered my Blackberry with it!
Thought this looked really cool so decided to see what other patterns you can get the stuff in, and there are a ton. For anyone interested, check out this website...
http://www.idsfinishes.com/gallery/
I really dig some of the wood finishes, might look cool on my HD2 . Thinking about giving it a go soon.
By the way, you did a pretty damn excellent job on yours, though I'm not much a fan of carbon fiber myself.
Edit: On second thought... That white carbon fiber looks pretty awesome, heh. To the OP or anyone else who has used it, my only concern is... How thick is the stuff? I have an extended battery case that the HD2 slides into and I'm afraid if I put this on it'll be too thick to still slide in. Any truth to that?
How difficult is it to remove the vinyl if you botch the job or if you just get bored of it? Does it leave a gooey residue everywhere?

this.
and wow i must say this mod looks sick nasty. +1
The stuff IS pretty thick.... In some of my pics, you can see the depth of the product, it will add about 1mm to the overall width of the phone, which makes me interested in how it will work in the ProClip holster for the car I plan on buying when they make it! Since it has a nice amount of texture, it has to give it some thickness, but much of that is pretty negligible when you use a heat gun to wrap it nicely....
The question about sticky residue is something I get every time someone sees the work..... It leaves NO residue, same quality you can expect from all 3M products..... My best advice is to take it SLOWLY and use a heat gun when necessary, not on every surface! Just use it for edges, straight or curved, and cut with the sharpest x-acto blades you can find!

No pics of the case with a phone in it though, I tried it for only a short while before pulling it out in favour of the NeoHybrid.
Short review: It's a good case but overpriced. I really thought that by "mesh" the case had holes in the back, but no. There are only dimples on the inside of the case, the back is totally smooth (which I don't really like personally).
The 3DO band is thick around the case, making the device fatter (and theoretically improving the side impact resistance) but there isn't much of a lip around the front.
IMHO it's good if you want a simple see-through case with good side impact resistance - though like I said, it's relatively overpriced.

We appreciate anything you can accomplish, if you get ahold of a second capturing device (friends phone or webcam or whateveR) if you could take a few different angles of it and try to capture the lip representation best you can that would be awesome.
I'm a bit sad to hear about very little lip around the screen, I had high hopes for this case but it sounds like it might not be that great now. So the whole case is semi flexible like a TPU case then? but its on pretty firm on the phone?

Well, it IS a TPU case. It just has an extra 3D0 ring built into the edges.
I'll try to get somebody's phone to take some pics. But it really has a very limited lip - the NeoHybrid is miles better in this regard.

I did a review of the mesh case and I'm not sure if I can post links yet, but here it is:
http://www.androiddoes.net/accessories/tech21-impact-mesh-case-for-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/
Anyway, I had a demo of the technology at CTIA in New Orleans, and they put that stuff all over my hands like they did for Phil at Android Central. It's pretty neat stuff, the orange gel, called d3o, locks up when it is struck and protects your device. They even gave me a little bit of d3o in the press kit. Anyway, it's fun to play with.
Of all the cases that I have been sent to review so far, I like the impact mesh the best. Having said that, I didn't have to pay anything for it. However, I would pay the $60 for the case, ($50 for the case and $10 for shipping) just to know that my expensive phone was protected.

AHH dude thank you for posting this.. I've been lusting after one of these since i first saw it.. I bet it would look outstanding on my white phone! I wish they weren't so expesnive though I cant really afford it at this time.. But i'm so glad to read about it..
I've always wondered if the smalla mount of orange in there would actually make enough of a difference during a drop, i mean i've seen the demo video where they throw the phone etc etc.. but those can be staged and they may not be the exact same case.. I kind of wisht hey had a 'shock' or 'vibration' sensor that was shaped like the phone that they could put in there and drop with and without the case and show much difference it makes...
but again Thank you for posting this review! i envy ya with that cool case!
No problem, glad to help.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share with you guys this sweet new case I just got for my new Nexus 5. Its from Bear Motion, and it is a very thin case. It has a really unique texture, which feels like sand/ sandpaper only not as rough as you think. the case has a really small lip on the front so you can place your phone face down without having your screen touch. I'm really loving it. it feels really good in the hand because it doesn't add that much bulk to your phone. I searched far and wide for a case like this. I highly recommend it. best of all i got it for like 5$ on amazon.
Yes, these cases are great.

I got one too. I also got the bear motion non-sand version as well. Their nice, but do not give near as much grip as the ringke rearth slim does. Maybe I haven't used them long enough to let hand oils soak in? The sand version feels wild. Nothing like actual sand. More like very felt, very short cut felt. I like having many different cases to try, but so far the Ringke slim is the best imo. Thanks for sharing

Is the rough texture on the interior of the case too? This case sounds interesting, very grippy, but I would be afraid it would damage the finish of the phone.
Yeah I didn't order the bear motion one because they didn't have it in black. I do really like the quicksand style, so I ordered a generic quicksand case off ebay in black, and like 3 other types of hardcases. The quicksand is pretty much the exact same thing as the Poetic and Bear, minus the branding. Probably all made in the same factory anyway. Can't go wrong with 4 cases for like less than 10 bucks shipped! Only thing is it takes a month to get here.
Would be interesting to compare the Bear Motion branded one with the non branded ebay ones.

I did a review of a bunch of generic ebay cases here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577289. It also included the generic version of the Bear Motion/Poetic Quicksand cases. I'm pretty sure like I mentioned earlier that they're the exact same cases, from the same factories, without the company branding on it.

*Just noticed how dusty my desk is...
Just got a green one today for my white Nexus and gotta say I'm loving it so far! It looks and feels great. I just hoping it provides okay protection... Yesterday I dropped my phone for the first time and my Diztronic case proved to have GREAT drop protection (no damage from a waist high fall, screen first!). Obviously the Bear Motion obviously isn't meant to protect from drops but hopefully it will be better than nothing. Anyways, sweet case and definitely a favorite out of all (5) of my cases
If someone can prove that the ebay cases are the same, minus the branding, I'll definitely pic up some more colors!

Yeah I'm not going to take you up on that offer. No reason for me to spend more (when I spent the best $0.99 on a case ever haha), just to find out if a case with a Bear Motion stamp is the same as my generic one! I don't think a 20x price increase (original price) + shipping is worth it for me to test 10 letters of white ink.
Here's some easy "evidence."
Exhibit A, Colors:
Generic ebay quicksand:

Hmmm, interesting haha. Exact same color choices. Even down to the watermelon pink orange that they say is orange. I ended up getting that "orange" as well from ebay, thinking the color was.... well orange.

Hmmm, interesting again! Same wood type/wood grain used as a backdrop for the case.
You know, some crazy person might even come to some weird conclusion that it's almost as if they were the exact same case! Possibly, with pictures taken from the same factory location, one before stamping, and another afterward! This is tough detective work though, I don't think anyone will ever truly know the answer to this mystery! :highfive:

I believe that this is when they'll take the opportunity to display and announce the sale of all (seven?) of the original Style Swap covers.
My Bacon has a clear case on it to protect it, but I still want it to look nice when I look at the back. I want the Kevlar, bamboo, and carbon fiber backs to make my phone stand out. Nice custom look while giving extra protection to the phone from the clear IMAK case. Best of both worlds.
Edit: In addition to the bamboo, I hope to see some extremely dense wood Style Swap covers as well. Just for that nice look and some serious protection for the back. Of course it would add quite a bit of weight, but it would definitely be solid.

Personally I am looking forward to the carbon fiber back, but I wonder what the price point for these new backs will be. I am surprised to see OnePlus pushing accessories when they still have yet to offer pre-orders or open ordering for everyone though.
anybody found a simillar cover on ebay or aliexpress?
I'm just wondering how tough it'll be to change out the back plates cause I saw a post the other day and the person really messed up his back plate taking it off, basically making it not usable until the new ones are out..
I soldered in a wireless charging receiver, but it doesn't pass through the back cover well. I'm looking to find a replacement back so I can modify it so the inductive coil is on the outside with the wires running in.
This is the one I purchased. But I'll likely get the official wooden one when it goes up for sale.

Skinomi is a nice company and its not a bad idea to use it in one plus one.

I prefer dbrand. https://dbrand.com/shop/oneplus-one and they have a warning for the sandstone themselves.
Important note about the black OnePlus One:
We strongly encourage you not to skin the back of your Sandstone Black OnePlus One. While covering it with a skin will definitely make it look cool, it won't improve the fantastic grip already offered by the Sandstone finish.
With that being said, adding a front and matching camera skin would be a great idea. Every front skin comes packaged with two anti-glare screen protectors, providing full protection for the front of your device.
At dbrand, we care about user experience. In the end, the choice is entirely yours.

I wonder how much it'll cost and how difficult it would be to swap the covers but now we know its more than a back plate and also the sides.

If it's any more than $20 there's no way I'll purchase it. I wonder if any 3rd party companies will try to make custom back plates for the One?

Tomorrow all questions will be answered. Just a little bit patience but if I remember correctly OPO have said that price will be around $20.
Lets hope that changing the "skin" of it wont be as hard as we think it is.

I feel that dbrand should not do vinyl skins but do custom back plates kinda like what OPO is doing since they offer dbrand skins but they don't recommend skins over the sandstone.

But did you see the close ups???
The side plastic of monotone beige color makes it SO CHEAP (((
Real turn off.
I'm glad that it was published..., than I know that no bamboo cover for me for sure.
Still would gladly have a look at the alternatives of the dark wood....wondering what kind of side panels they will get.
Looks like the page is up with a video, out of stock and is $49.00. I will definitely be passing on this. Maybe OnePlus should have it like Moto where you can select what backpiece you'd want?

I guess they won't be available until August and that this is just a pre announcement
We want to first introduce you to our Bamboo StyleSwap Cover, as this will be the first one available for purchase at the end of August. We know it’s still a bit away, but we wanted to give you an update of what we’ve been working on and what you can soon expect.

$49 usd
Extremely overpriced for not being a case. Worth no more than $10-$15 each.
I am going to pass, smh!

I just put this one on my Z3C, a not too bad carbon fibre-effect vinyl decal (I just used the back though):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xperia-COMPACT-Textured-Sticker-Black/dp/B00O45EEN6
Pros: cheap (£4.99), has cutouts for Sony & NFC logos, fits snugly, easy to apply, and looks really smart with a slight matte texture. And no fingerprints, hooray!
Cons: not very grippy, slips about on table & in hand, obviously better than the glass, but definitely feels like vinyl.
I just noticed that the Skinzone one has now become available for the Z3C too, but it's a little pricey at 18 euro:
http://skinzone.eu/themes/carbon-sp...ia-z1-xperia-z3-compact/36-943-4-22-2183.html
I had this on the Z1C, it was very grippy and pleasant to hold - a bit rubbery, even. That phone seriously stuck to any table/hand like a limpet with the skin on! Maybe I'll order it too if it gets a good review from someone here
So I would assume you would apply the vinyl to the top of the screen protector if you had one. Wonder how that would stick/fit?

I'm looking for something that increases the grip too but I really don't want a themed cover.. plain black is all I need!
I wouldn't really want to use the front and side parts, tbh - look a bit fugly to me - and on the back you don't need a protector, so it just pops straight on the glass. No bubbles or marks, actually looks like the phone came out of the factory this way ... glass is nice to look at, but just so completely unergonomic in practice.
They do plain matte ones too, I'm pretty sure!
I made my own CF skin using left over 3M dinoc CF vinyls. I cut the decal using a Silhouette Cameo.

Did you use an x-acto knife as well? I've tried cutting skins and it never turns out well no matter how sharp of a tool I use.

Nope. The cutting machine(cameo) did all the cutting. Came out pretty much perfect.

I misunderstood what you used. I thought you used a cutout of the back as a template.
Personally, I'm waiting for dbrand to release their skins for the Z3C.
Here's the XtremeSkins one with the logo cutouts (sorry for the crappy pic):

You said in the original post this was fairly grippy on previous phones, still the case after you've got this one?

No, the XtremeSkins one is slippier than the Skinzone one, but actually fits better and looks smarter. Tradeoff ... I'm happy for now

Unfortunately they do not have any Wooden Design from what I can see, which is what I am looking for. BTW, how do you find these Skins? I cant find them using Google, if I Search for "Z3 Compact Skin" I just find Screen protektors or cases, when I search for "Z3 Compact Design (Skin)" I never find anything...

Amazon has a good few skins for the Z3 Compact. They also have some wooden ones, aswell as Metallic/Brushed Metal ones ... I've yet to try one myself but you can pick some up for as little as £4.99, which makes it worth a punt IMO.
Personally though I'm holding out for dBrand to come to the party ... Here's a link for one of them, a little more pricey though:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skinomi®-Te...2WSW/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A37EMETMDONHCS
Sorry for the late reply... That Skinomi is also the only one looking good and available in Germany... But it's 20€ + shipping fee here, which is a little bit ridiculous for a little bit of plastic foil... I've made a request at dBrand, they say they'll have a skin till the end of November. You have any clue what the international shipping fee will be? I found no other way to find it out than buying a skin from them...

When I bought a drand skin for my Z2 back in june the shipping to Finland was $5.00 CAD.
Skins at dBrand online
dBrand started "preorders" (is says they ship beginning today, no clue why they call them preorders) for skins for our Z3c today:

I've just bought mine. I'll come back when it arrives with my impressions ☺

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a Red Carbon Fiber for the back, I'm actually going to attempt to install it on my Cruzerlite or Ringke Fusion case and not on the phone.
