hello iv have rooted this device before but this time i can't seem to root for some reason i download the root 66 tar file then i drag the tar file into odin then i start up odin and click on the pda button and search for the tar file but for some reason i can't locate the tar file what am i doing wrong ?
Root66 firmware is packaged as a .7z (7zip) file. Did you extract it first? The .tar.md5 is inside.

stock odin files can be found bottom of this OP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324517
you need to:
Download
extract with password
then do the same thing as you flash the recovery
PDA --> choose the tar.md5 file and flash. these files are much bigger so it can take several minutes.
My backup got corrupted so I'm trying to flash the stock rom/ firmware but everytime I put my phone into Odin mode then goto Odin and hit pda and go to add the tar.md5 file it doesn't show up in the pda field so I can't flash it... Im using ver. 3.07 and dl'd the stock rom tar.md5 file from stockroms.com idk if it's corrupted or not any help would b appreciated

There should be no .md5 at the end.
How can I create an Odin flashable cwm recovery file (.tar) with the cwm recovery .img file downloaded from the cwm website?

U can flash the .img file in odin mobile.. just rename the file to recovery.img

Unfortunately, mobile odin requires root, which is what I'm trying to do (guess i should have been more specific )
Root with Odin desktop cf auto root. Then install whatever recovery you want, I suggest TWRP from goo.im in play store.
Cf auto root? I've never heard of that could you please explain to me what that is? (or just a link would be fine)
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
That's the standard root still with stock firmware

I use the QCom toolkit to make my tar files.

Thanks for this I'll check it out. One question though: does this also work on the T999V?
Edit: nvm I read the post and it warns that it may brick the device if its a different model

Tar files flash through Mobil Odin.
E4GT Rom-a-holic!!!
Being specific is your friend! GB27 what?:
-Stock ROM?
-Stock TW Kernel? (since no stable custom GB27 kernel)
-Modem?
Just saying GB27 is very very broad. As stated though, yes .tar files are the ones that mobile odin flashes. Let me know which GB27.. whatever.. You need and I'll get you a download link

Hi everyone,
I downloaded a stock rom from sammobile.
It's a zip containing a .dll file and a .tar.md5 file.
Can anyone tell me how i can flash this?
One tutorial says to check onepackage another one says it has to be selected as pda.
Thanks

If there is one package, you do what seems the most logical - flash the zip as a one-package one as it contains all parts inside.
Ya i thought that at first but a guy on youtube flashed it as pda and he has 50000 views

Download Odin and .ops file.
Open Odin and select .ops file and check One Package, then flash the file tar.md5!
