Hi all, I ****ed up and didn't make a backup.
I wiped the phone clean from bootloader recovery, but then realized I had forgotten to move the new gapps and cm rom to my phone.
When I plug it in, it is recognized by my computer, but the HTC MTP Device fails to work.
I can't see the phone, and therefore can't put anything on it to flash. If I mount the phone via the bootloader, it pops up in Windows and wants to be formatted.
I have been looking around and trying different things for the past couple hours, and figured it was time to ask someone who might know..
Any ideas?

I don't understand why I can't mount or access the phone. Do I not have the right drivers installed?
Is there any way to get around this and put the files on my phone so I can install any old ROM so I can boot it up again??
You need to update the drivers on your PC, there's a few threads on how to do it. You should still be able to use adb push to add files, though.
Drivers are fine ! Go in recovery and mount the sdcard as a usb mass storage device ! In the title you speak of a HTC one......so is it a ONE or a ONE X ?
Thanks for replying!
It is an HTC One X. Should I just install the Android SDK bundle? Or are there other drivers?
Android sdk bundle is good. But you have MYHTC so that's correct. You need to go into the recovery and mount the sdcard as a usb storage device, it will show the drive in windows and then you can copy a rom onto it.

Hi, so I installed the newest HTC driver (4.2) and all the SDK bundles. When I plug the phone it, it still won't recognize the HTC MTP Device. When I mount from the bootloader, it doesn't let me mount the sdcard (only the system data and cache), and Windows still shows a drive that needs to be formatted.
Do you think it's still a Windows driver I'm missing? If I go Terminal Command on phone it says
E: Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E: Unable to mount storage.
What's the option called you tap inside recovery. And what recovery are you using ?
If it's CWM you go to mounts and storage and tap the last option in that list.....then wait till it pops up on the pc
I'm using TWRP v 2.4.2.0 and I couldn't check the box for mount sdcard.
ADB push worked!
But the ROM failed. Is there anything else I'm missing?
It still says that E: can't mount.
Try this recovery please, i know this one blinded

Firstly thank you so much for taking time to help a lost stranger out!
What I did was reformat the J: drive that popped up on Windows, then I was able to put both the CM10.2 and GAPPS on the /sdcard/ (it would then mount)
I could then install both of them successfully, but I don't have a boot.img because my kernel is wiped. Will that file work as a boot.img?

Or how do I try your recover? Should I push it with adb? If so, to where?
I found two other boot.img files on the webs (boot.img and cm10.img), but I don't know how to get the phone to actually boot off them
The boot.img has to be flashed via Fastboot in the bootloader. So if you installed CM correctly via the recovery then flash the boot.img from the CM.zip ....
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
And a kernel can't be wiped via the recovery by the way. You can only delete/overwrite it via Fastboot commands

Okay! That's good
I think it flashed correctly, now I am just waiting for the phone to boot up. It's been going for about 25 minutes though. Should it be that long?
Nope not good.......make a full wipe in recovery before installing the rom.
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced-wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage-format cache,data,system
Then install CM and gapps then reboot because you already flashed its boot.img

Stuck yet again.
I relocked the phone to flash new firmware, but I have CID 1111111, so I can't find anything to unlock the bootloader again.
Double sauced. Ahhhhhh
Unlock the bootloader by flashing the unlock_Code.bin file wich you got the first time when it's unlocked.
Fastboot flash token unlock_code.bin
But you really should continue this in the right forum. Flashing stuff from here may brick the phone !

HBOOT-0.95.000
CID: HTC__032
MID: PJ4610000
I have installed ClockworkMod 5.8.4.0 and made a backup recovery 2 days ago from it before doing anything else.
and accidentally today i did these commands:
Wipe battery stats
Wipe Dalvik cache
wipe data/factory reset
and
format /cache
format /data
format /sdcard
format /system
Of course... after rebooting... NO MORE OS BOOT UP , it gets stuck at HTC Brilliant screen and stays forever.
First thing I did was to try to flash RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260491_signed.exe
didn't work! it says UNKNOWN ERROR (i think not the os it wants)
then i copied all the backup folders from my computer (the backup that i've made 2 days ago) on the sdcard partition which i can accesss from clockworkmod by mounting usb (and of course it was totally empty)
didn't wirk either.
How cand i put back my OS while I still have access to sdcard, bootloader and clockwork mod.
Please help me, I'm a dummy!

if you know what you are doing with explorer then you just need to drop the folder 2012-07-26.05.13.13 in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/
then restore your backup in recovery
i assume if you have done "format /sdcard and /system" then wondering why your phone wont boot, you are a dummy so i will write a dummy guide for you
yeah, formatting /system is why it wont boot anymore
here are the things you need to do to get booting again
reboot into recovery
click on "mounts and storage"
click on "mount USB storage" at bottom
plug your phone into PC via USB cable
open up computer (assuming Windows) and open up your now blank /SDCARD
make a folder called "clockworkmod" (without quotes)
open this folder then make another one inside it called "backup"
copy your 2012-07-26.05.13.13 folder from your PC to the "backup" folder
click on "Unmount" on your phone
click on "+++++Go Back+++++"
click on "backup and restore"
click on "restore"
click on "2012-07-26.05.13.13"
click on "Yes - Restore"
once complete you should be fine and dandy again
I don't know what did you erase but inside zip you have boot.img which if you deleted somehow boot.img you can flash through adb shell. Don't ask me I don't know correct command line, but you can extract it and flash itbthrough phone. I will look for exact path for recovery zip file because i have root and nandroid back up and in next post I will give you my path.

Ok, so I know I take first prize for noob/dummy of the year but I'm really hoping someone cane help.
I recently rooted my one x and tried to install Android Revolution custom rom. Got stuck in a bootloop. Managed to then flash Cyanogenmod 9 (trip's version) however had issues with bluetooth not working and random reboots. Thought i'd give Android revolution a go again but got stuck in bootloop.....again!!! So...in all my (lack of) infinite wisdom, I booted into recovery and proceeded to format everything thinking I could just drop Leedroid's rom onto the sd card and flash it from recovery.
Whilst I thought this would work, I now have no access to the sd card. I tried mounting usb mass storage and the sdcard in recovery so I could just drag and drop it frrom windows but got the following error "E: Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or di
So, after reading through some other threads, I discovered that you could just push the zip file using adb, however, when trying this I get the error: device not found.
When launching fastboot I get
SD Checking
Failed to open usb Master mode
Failed to open usb Master mode
loading HTCUpdatezipName image
Failed to open usb Master mode
Please plug off USB
Hope someone out there can help.

Do you have the latst Recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
If not, update to latest recovery and try to mount USB storage again.
Also you can try to use adb while you have the phone in recovery mode, not fastboot or hboot.
And, did you remember to flash the boot.img from fast boot after reflasnig the ROM? if not, that that is causing the bootloops.

BTW I gotta say, I was pretty happy with my one x before but now... I think i'm in love.
Sorry if this is off topic but was unsure where else to post. Had issues with random rebooting after certain apps launched so scrapped leedroid and tried out modaco. All seemed fine but then I was getting a reboot every time I tried to access (play, set as a ring tone or even just play) mp3's so I did a full wipe reflash of Leedroid and the same thing happens, full reboot when tying to do anything with MP3s

Here is an alternative way without ruu
1-Mount usb in recovery
2-Copy this rom to sdcard
3-Factory reset
4-Flash rom
4-Start ruu and grab the rom.zip (you can find guides at xda for grabbing rom.zip)
5-Extract boot_signed.img and recovery.img
6-Execute fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img and fastboot flash recovery
recovery.img
7-Reboot and relock the bootloader
and now you don't need ruu and phone works well I tried this myself and it worked
Firstly, thanks for your sugggestion. One question though, won't relocking the bootloader also unroot the phone?

I really would appreciate a guide that even squirrels could follow, please

Hi,
I have been trying to root my phone to install ARHD. I installed the boot.img file from the downloads section, installed ClockworkMOD, copied the ROM to the SD Card and unlocked the phone using HTCDEV.com.
However, now when the phone tries to boot, the lock screen appears, freezes then the phone reboots. Ican get into CWM Recovery but I can only see an Android folder, Lost.DIR folder and My Documents folder. I cannot see the ROM.
What can I do to get out of this Bootloop?
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot boot.img

boot into recovery
install zip from sd card
choose your rom

I can follow the instructions up to Install Zip from SDCard. When I choose that option I can only see the following directories:
Android/
LOST.DIR/
My Documents/
I've searched through all 3 directories and no sign of the ROM. I had originally copied it to a new folder call ROMS on the root of the SD-Card.

I know this is written in the One S section but i see no reason why this shouldn't work with the HoX
What this basically does is it lets you put a rom on your sdcard through CWM, this i hope helps you get back on track : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
try putting across again go in to recovery and mount the storage and drag and drop it over again see if that helps
adb will not detect the device as I cannot get into the operating system to turn on USB debugging
when I mount the SDCard, my PC still cannot see the drive so I cannot copy anything across.

If you have latest cwm 5.8.4.0 then you can charge in recovery. You can also mount your sdcard to put the ROM back on there in cwm
Go on mounts menu then choose mount USB storage then plug to PC.

Hi, if you can help me unbrick my phone I'll buy you a beer (or three!)
I have an htc one x which i managed to unlock the bootloader via htcdev as in various tutorials....
I was too lazy to take a backup
I then tried to install cyanogenmod 10 using cwm recovery.... (by flashing a zip file i had downloaded - one of the nightly builds)
I wiped the cache etc in cwm
it got stuck in a boot loop i think as it got to the spinning cyanogen logo then nothing happened...
I've tried to get it working again using lots of different methods - i downloaded some RUU exes which failed because they said they weren't the correct ROM (even though they should be right) - then i read a tutorial about how to use fastboot to flash system.img onto the phone but it fails giving error code 00000006
I can't push any zip files to the phone using ADB as I get permission denied errors
I've also tried to use fastboot to flash various recoveries but I can't apply any zips because I can't get them onto the phone in the first place
I've also flashed various recovery.img files but when they load, I get a red triangle after a few seconds
If someone could tell me how to use ADB to push a zip file to the phone I'd be really grateful - have tried everything but keep getting permission denied errors
Thanks
(oh and if you manage to help me fix it I WILL buy you a beer... or 3)
oh and ....
ALSO I've googled the problem and tried all of the options I can find which could help - please don't just send me a link to a page because i can guarantee I've probably already tried the solution and failed. When I boot into recovery, I can't use adb push to send files to the phone because it says it's not connected even if i try the option for mount data, or mount storage - the only time windows seems to manage to aknowledge it's existence is on the fastboot screen -

For the RUU to work you need to have stock recovery and a relocked boot loader.

I use CM10 myself at the moment because of the aesthetics, but because of the amount of ram and battery it uses I wish I had stuck with ARHD.
Come October we should see Jellybean ARHD which will have great features like USB OTG without a powered hub.

Mount as USB not working on that version, also charging not working either. It was not a great release in terms.of features, but it was updated quickly, that's quite an.old version now.
Do you know which tutorial you followed? It really needs updating, there are a lot of people on this old version struggling more than they need to.
Right, first you're going to flash a recovery which allows you to mount USB storage. Either cwm or TWRP, download the recovery.img and flash through fastboot using fastboot flash recovery rocoveryname.img.
Download a new rom and extract the boot.img from it. Flash that boot.img using the usual fastboot method.
Now boot into the new recovery, connect to your pc and mount USB storage from the option in recovery. Copy over the rom you downloaded. Unmount USB storage. Now do a full wipe through the menu in recovery - format /data, /system and /cache. Now flash the rom and reboot

And managed to unlock the bootloader and root device. Saw Super SU
Then, I tried to install CM10 ROM but I did forget to backup and wipe cache and data.
http://onexroot.com/one-x-roms/cm10-official-jelly-bean-rom-for-one-xatt-one-xone-xl-best-rom/
I went into bootloader->recover -> install from sd card -> cm10-official -> yes
Then the CM loading screen went on for like 10+ minutes straight so I thought something was off.
So after doing some panic googling, I installed Android SDK and ever since then, I cannot access fastboot via cmd
I then restarted it to bootloader and then did a backup now (late?)
I then looked up steps I missed and I think what I missed was
1. wipe cache and data
2. backup stock ROM
3 usd cmd -> fastboot -> boot image
Here are the steps I think I need to go about solving it:
1. Fastboot img of cm10 in cmd
2. wipe cache and data
3. Bootloader -> recovery -> install from sd -> cm10 -> yes
It gives me this error message:
fastboot.exe. system error
The program can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
So I google'd up this error message and I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781386
I tried the following solutions but I don't quite what to do.
1. Move adb.exe fastboot.exe and adbWinApi.dll to C:/Android
2. Install Daemon tools *(But I don't know what to do after installing it)
3. Uninstalling Android SDK
4. You need to add the directory containing the "AdbWinApi.dll" to Windows' path under Environment Variables, so Windows know where to look for the necessary files when you enter commands in the shell.
Can someone walk me through this? I am in a bit of panic.

Thanks ahead of time
Try this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734365
You need sdk and htc drivers
Flash stock recovery
Look up ruu find how to find wich one you need
Lock bootloader with that tool
Run ruu
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Hmm.. I gave the tool a try but it said my device was not connected.
Problem I'm having is that I can wipe cache in recovery but when I first tried to install the ROM from zip, I forgot to backup ROM, fastboot boot image and wipe cache.
Another problem is that I can't mount the sd card or use fastboot USB right now. When I boot into recovery to mount SD card, it shows an error and fastboot doesn't seem to fully connect.
(One X also has no removable SD card)
When I try to mount SD card in recovery, it gives me an error so that means I can't just mount SD card to put stock ROM.
Right now, I'm looking for a way to mount SD card successfully so I can put stock ROM back on the One X. But until I can somehow mount the sd card, I'm in the stress and I'm a little afraid. My car mount for One X just came in and I can't use it.
Thanks in advance.
Telling us what the error is would be useful.
However, because I AM psychic, I can tell you that your version of clockworkmod is not the latest, so get 5.8.4.0, flash it:
fastboot flash recovery cwm-5.8.4.0.img
And then recovery will work for mounting as USB.
Hi all, really need some expert help.
I fitted an one x + battery a week ago, and all was running ok until Wednesday. Phone locked up and wouldn't reboot. I've read as much as I can but I cant seem to find a cure.
I can enter bootloader and flash from there. I have erased cahce, flashed TWPR, but in recovery I still cannot mount sd card.
I have uninstalled and re installed HTC Sync.
Some help would be greatly received as I need the phone for work and sat nav.
I have tried running ruu, but it fails saying usb error.
I am not sure but I think I need stock recovery which will repair corrupted sd card.
Thanks in advance. Mel
Try philz touch recovery
I will when I get home Mr Hoffs.
Problem also it sometimes wont even boot into bootloader, or recovery. It seems very hit and miss, any ideas why this might be?
Im hoping its due to corruption of SD that can be cured with a format.
Flash the recovery when you reach the bootloader, and afterwards also erase cache !
Fastboot erase cache

Good afternoon Mr Hoffs. I. have flashed Philz recovery, erased cache. But everything I try it says unable to mount sd card, unable to mount data, unable to format/mount SD card. This happens with everything I try in all recoveries.
Do you think I need a stock recovery, I read that this can help to format the card.
If so, where would I find the stock recovery.
What a way to spend a Friday evening, but I need my phone.
I get the noise when connecting my phone to laptop.
I have tried 2 cables, all usb ports. Tried cable on my old Desire and its fine
While I connect my laptop says its installing the drivers software, but then it says ' driver software was not correctly installed ' but I have also had the message that usb not recognised
Its strange that it will mount ok in fastboot.
I'm happy for more suggestions. Does the phone charge in Philz recovery, I am currently on 61%, so ok for a while.
Thanks for your help so far, hopefully we can save my One X
no harm in trying, give me the outcome of : fastboot getvar version-main. then i csn give at least the stock recovery. but in philz you need to enter the recovery, then hookup the usb cable and then press mount as usb mass storage. It can take a few minutes before it actually mounts and pop up in windows. So make sure to give it enough time to mount

I have 3.16.110.4
Just going back the Philz recovery and will leave it connected for a few minutes, but previously I have left it but fingers crossed
Left Philz recovery on for at least 10 minutes. When I try to mount usb storage it does nothing.
Mount cache returns ' error mounting cache '
Mount data returns 'error mounting date '
mount sd card the same
mount system the same
Format cache E: format_volume :make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 error formatting cache

wipe Dalvik cache E:cant open/ cache/revovery/last_log.
Device Driver software was not correctly installed
Hope this makes sense to you Mr Hoffs !!
when you are in the recovery, not mounted or anything. Do you see MYHTC in the windows device manager. i think you have to update the drivers. install the latest HTC syncmanager from the htc site and let it all update. then try again.

It comes up as MYHTC.
What do you suggest now Mr Hoffs ?
But computer says device driver not installed.
Hmm not sure, MYHTC is fine. Ruu is not available so that's a no go ! Maybe a next thing to look at is sideloading a rom to the SD via twrp ?!

So you mean flash twrp recovery ? Then try to side load, will this work even though its not mounting/ seeing the sd card. Any idea where to get the stock recovery, as I saw a video on you tube where the guy flashed stock recovery, which formatted the card, he then returned to custom recovery and loaded rom. I have searched but am not sure which is the correct stock recovery img
Stock recovery :

At this point you can try anything. No usb mass storage is !

No, phone wont turn on now, I have to leave it a while for some reason before I can get it back into bootloader ( not sure why )
Will update after stock recovery is flashed. No other computers in the house.
Oke once you back into flashing mode, flash philz and charge the battery up all the way. Then try more !

Battery was showing 100% earlier in recovery so I think it is charged, I get a different noise when connecting to pc. Not sure what this crazy phone is upto !
Only thing you can do is try all these different things including another pc (never know) not sure what else to try. Maybe this :
1: Factory reset from the bootloader menu
2: factory reset within recovery
Then check for mount options
This morning it wouldn't turn on after being on charge overnight.
Device manage says Apx.........
I've left it and gone to work hoping the phone fairies are looking down on me.
I did try factory reset in bootloader, and recovery.
