On the iPhone 5 release date, I decided to buy a Galaxy SIII. Until September 22, I was loyal to apple since the release date of the original iPhone.
Let me just say, The galaxy s3 owns the iPhone in every way. I see why apple suing because their finally beaten. Anyways should I return the galaxy s3 and wait out the note 2. I really like the S pen feature because it would be useful for college or should I wait till black Friday and try to find the galaxy note 10.1 on sale. anyone's opinion would be helpful. I have till October 22 to return the galaxy s3.
Note 2 because it has the features of a phone AND a tablet and it can be held everywhere
The S III is a good choice but if doesnt have tablet features, hope I helped

I forgot to mention that I have really small hands. It already hard enough to hold the SIII. Is the note II that much bigger.

If you want the features of a tablet and phone, then the note 2 would be a great choice. I am considering the note 2 myself, wanting the ability to have my phone and tablet in one device, a 'phablet'.
If you're worried about the size drop by a store and check out the current note. I could be wrong but I believe they are the same size.
I remembered! Why not to buy an S III mini! Its a 4-inch screen phone, 1GHz dual core, 1GB RAM
Isn't that enough for a college guy

Actually, the note 2 is even bigger @ 5.5"
To big for my taste. I couldn't even use the first note @ 5.3" with one hand. Other than that it was nice, like the S pen.
Sent from my SGS III
The new note is bigger as in 5.3" as apposed to 5.5" but the note 2 s not as wide as the original note so that may help with the people that had trouble handling the first one.

Im in same situation as op. My 30 days up on thr 22nd. Also. Ive been trying to find out if note 2 will release before then. If it does, id likely swap. I like the bigger 5.5in. Screen. Would compliment my note 10.1 well. I did just get a 4200mAh Hyperion extended battery for my SG3 though. Loving the sick battery life im getting now. Very hard to kill battery now.
Sg3 is a great phone though. Id still be happy if I keep it. I went from an old 4in. Atrix 4g to 4.8in. Sg3.
I have the s3 but I will be using the hubby's upgrade for the note 2 when it comes out. It will have no problem fitting in my purse and the hubby will be happy with the s3 since he currently has the galaxy s. Can't wait!
I would say get the note 2 if the bigger size isn't an issue. It looks awesome!

Note 2 has significantly lower ppi at 267 according to their leaked specs. I would go with S3 if that's a Deal breaker for you
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I would say it really would come down to price of what you could get the 10.1 vs what it will cost you to upgrade to the note 2. I would guess you would be paying close to if not full retail being you just got the gs3? The hardware specs between the note 2 and the gs3 are not what i would consider significant, certainly not when compared with the difference between the gs3 and 10.1 tab. As far as the phablet potential goes, there are pleanty of options on the gs3 on the custom rom side of things that would be pretty similar to the note 2. If it were me i would keep the gs3 and go with the tablet, which is going to be more conveinient in a school setting. Just my 2 cents.
I love s3 but I could be a wrong but I believe the note 2us variant has 2 gigs of ram and works with lte with the quad core processor, where the s3 is qualcomm dual core 2 gigs but if u want a phablet/big phone and don't want a regular tablet that would be my pick. But if u have a tablet or are getting one the s3 is big enough for this year lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I had same problem ,which one too choose. I went with gs3 its amazing. Like everything. And its still feels like a phone on your hand. I watch a lot of movies on it . Screen is amazing.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
My two cents - I chose the Galaxy S3 because the Note 2 just seemed to be trapped between two worlds to me. I don't even feel comfortable on my Tab 2 7.0 because it's too small to really get anything done on, though it's great as a reader or media player.
They're all great devices, but I feel like my phone and tablet are better off separated.

In my opinion the note is just to big. I would go with the s3 and try to pick up a note 10.1 tab. I love having my phone and a tab so if I want the extra screen size I can switch on over to my tab. But at that same time I can't take it every where as for the note phone you could.
Hope this helps, Dev

Hi, I have the Optimus G for 2 days, and its a verrrrryyyyy fast device. What are the Quadrant scores you guys get with Note 2. I still have 12 days that I can exchange.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to get a Optimus G. Just want to know opinions from you guy's.
Edit: After using the Optimus G for 5 days its going back. I decided to get the Note 2 can't use anything that is not Super AMOLED. Thanx to all of you for your replies.

Quadrant doesnt really matter. Our phones can handle anything you throw at them..
Questions you should ask yourself when trying to decide is:
Do you like the big screen of the Note II or prefer the LG Optimus G's screen?
Do you like the LG overlay or prefer touchwiz?
Will you be rooting and installing kernals? (Because if you are, im pretty sure the boot loader is locked down on the Optimus G so you wont be able to install kernals)
Do you like the build quality of Samsung or LG?
Do you need the removable battery?
^^^^ Answer these questions and you will most likely know your answer.
Hopefully I helped.
Battery life alone is worth it. I'm at 59% with 2 and a half hours screen on, LTE usage, 15 min voice calls, and 15 min navigation use. Google Now is running and I have sync running constantly. Been off the charger for 10.5 hours. Best battery life ever.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Well, here is my battery life on first full charge. Wifi was always on but only connected for about 6 hours (been gone all day). So LTE drain doesn't appear to be an issue as of yet. Lots of texts. 45 minutes streaming netflix movie over LTE While wife was shopping. Took about 300 pics and 15 minutes of video while at zoo. Lotbof internet and son playing Nova 3 for 35 minutes while driving to zoo. I am simply amazed!
Whatever your choice, don't think you will be disappointed if you do switch.

I still fail to see why do people care about Quadrant so much. It's like, if a company made a phone which did absolutely nothing but get 15k Quadrant scores people would buy it just for it. The GN2 (and I'm sure the Optimus G too) runs buttery smooth with minimal to none lag. It can run everything you throw at it as good as the Optimus G can.
What you should really ask yourself is if you'd rather have a 5.5 size screen vs a 4.7 sized screen. Not everyone likes the 5.5 screen on the GN2.

I was in the same boat and decided on the note 2.
Mostly because it will have developer support and LG doesn't release software updates often (so I've heard).
IMO they are both great phones, I just like Samsung a bit better.
From everything I have heard...LG doesn't put out updates as often...and doesn't have as much support from developers as the Galaxy line does...No SD card support or S-pen with the LG...but has a better screen...but no practical option for multi-veiw..
For my choice...the advantages of what I am going to do with it...the larger screen...the s-pen...the extra storage...makes the Note II the winner..
Mac
I have both phones. The Optimus G is on temporary loan but I've had it for a week or so. It's got a nice heft and I love the rounded edge, but it's an LG. I have worked with their other smartphones in the past and there are always strange little quirks and issues. Not to mention they're horrible track record for releasing updates. This Optimus G has already had problems with the camera not initializing and having to reboot to get it to work. Honestly you wouldn't go wrong with either phone. But I do like the note 2 more. It has a great display, awesome specs, it's just a good all around phone and I suspect there will be a very healthy active developer community. Samsung has already shown that they are able to release updates faster than they have in the past. Maybe it is because cyabogen works for them now. If you really wanted, I could post side by side pictures and benchmarks and stuff like that. What I also like about the Samsung is that it has some added compatibility with other Samsung phones, including the very popular Galaxy S3.

+1. But I still went for the Note II. I handled both at the AT&T store yesterday and am glad I picked up Note II.
I bet the the Note II will have more user development support like roms, kernels, etc than the Optimus G
If the OP is worried with benchmarks, check the sun spider benchmark - the note 2 destroyed the Optimus G (note 2 scores between 1025 and 950 - lower=better) and beats the Optimus G in antutu and several others (look for Engadget review of Nexus 4- shows all major benchmarks between Nexus 4,Optimus G, and Note 2 - Note 2 wins 4 out of 6).
Note 2 has spen (KILLER feature when you use it, so dang useful), excellent battery life, bigger screen (Web page viewing is a pleasure), expandable storage (except for ATT version) , smart stay/rotation features... Such a huge list. Note 2 all the way.
I'm scoring between 6300 and 6500 in quadrant, but I don't give any credence to this score- I find sun spider and antutu more telling of a device's day-to-day performance.

It sounds more like you've already made your decison, since you are asking about if you should Get a certain phone on a forum with an obvious bias (nearly everyone on this GN2 forum has bought it already, so you will pretty much just hear people say get the GN2, because they made that decision, and will probably extend their opinion to you, to justify their own purchase.
TLDR: Don't expect an objective opinion )
That being said. If you like the bigger screen, you will absolutely not be disappointed with the Note 2. I'm sure the Optimus G is pretty good (haven't ever touched one though!) as well, but I can say for sure the Note 2 is one hell of a phone.:victory:

That's not always true. I have an Optimus G, SGS3,Gnote 2, HTC OneX, and many others. The fact that I have all these phones but choose the Gnote 2 as my daily device speaks highly of this phone. I'm not giving my opinion from bias, I'm giving it from having access to most top end phones and when compared side-by-side, the Note 2 is simply superior.

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.
If this is what Samsung will put out in 2013, I'm waiting until the Note 4.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

Im curious to see if the s4 can be rooted easily because of the new Samsung knox software. It seems like its gonna be hard to flash roms and such cause the features of knox is to shut the phone down if unauthorized software is found. Also the kernel has secure boot on it. Any thoughts on this guys?

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.

So the Samsung guy paid a visit and brought the AT&T version of the S4 with him...my question is: Is this better than our Note 2? I don't mean internally or as far as screen. It does everything the Note can do and more without need of a stylus AND has Multi-Window, all in a smaller package. Is this the ultimate device in terms of power AND comfort? I, like many, have that nagging obsession of buying everything that comes out...so I will get it. How about you? Would u switch because of the S4's much smaller size?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
The main reason I bought the note was the size. Would never get another phone simple for a smaller size.
So anything below 5.5" is too small? My S3 feels tiny in my hand after using my Note and the fact that everything is smaller on the screen doesn't help either. I wonder how much of a difference it'll be between the Note screen and S4 in everyday use.

Only you can really answer that, since it's really about personal preference. Everything I've read about the One is that it's a beautifully styled phone with great performance, but I'm not interested in a trade because I really can't compromise on the inability to remove the battery or the memory. I love Samsung phones for that. I always carry a spare battery and I like being able to put my own memory in the phone, and even take it out if I need to transfer some files to/from PC but not tie up my phone.
I might be interested in the S4, but even so, I find the Note 2 is just too comfortable to trade away.
While I have owned 3 different HTC products in the last 4 years, I have decided that going back to them is not an option.
HTC has continued to lock users out of even the most basic of functions.
I want to change batteries, and change SD cards, not to mention the fact that HTC is not known for it's quality devices over time. All 3 of my HTC devices suffered from hardware issues and random rebooting only 6 months after purchase. Two of those devices were bone stock. The 3rd device just decided not to turn on one day.
I treat my devices with the upmost care, and HTC failed to make the one year mark on any of the 3 I've owned. While my note 2 is running perfectly.
Samsung is the clear choice for me, and although the "one" is a good device on paper, we have yet to see the long term performance, where Samsung and it's note 2 are a proven winner...IMHO....g
Hard to say. Will be up to you in the end. Only Htc phone that I have had that was a beast before its time was the Hd2. That phone was awesome! Was rock solid. I still have the HD2 and I probably won't ever get rid of it. Of course I am not using it now cause I love my Note 2.:good:

We recieved our pre-launch shipments and I have been playinwg with it. The design is nice so is the 1080p screen, but I can't see me departing my Note II till the Note III. The metal case is going to be a problem for me during cold weather when holding your phone might feel painful. Furthermore I noticed that it heats up quite a bit from just installing a few apps. To my surpise it felt like a small hot plate. HTC Sense and Ultra pixels are nice for lowlight, but when you zoom in you can see the lower res quality of the 4MP camera.
Stick with the Note for navigating sites that need you to mouse over things, the awesome dev community, awesome 5.5 AMOLED screen, and light phone. So when you drop it .... it doesn't fall like a brick and smash.
i've read alot of reviews complaining about the heat issue; the ONLY thing that phone has on this is the forward facing speakers, nothing else...
Not enough to make me even consider getting one, plus of course, HTC's questionable quality, and inacessable battery/sd card slot
After the HTC EVO 3D boot loader debacle hmm my avatar says it all I will stay away from rant.
The ONE does look like a pretty sweet device but lack of removable batt , SD card and made by HTC is a big negative.....at least for me
I love my note 2!

You answered your own question when you said you got the note 2 for screen size and battery. You will be taking a big drop in both for those.
You seem to care about the two things that are the note 2's biggest strengths. I wouldn't do this trade and it doesn't sound like you should either.

I love my note 2 and probably won't trade it in until the note 3. It is your decision. If you have a problem with your note you should trade it in but if there are no problems with it then just keeping the note will save you a fair pit of money.

Trading your note for a one is a bit like testing the quality of chlorine tablets with your tongue.
