We want Android 4.4 kitkat on our Galaxy Nexus! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I made a Facebook page for Galaxy Nexus owners to get Android 4.4 kitkat! Share it Guys! Lets make a statement to Google!!

1 this is a wrong place for this thread.
2 Google won't care a **** for the gnex users.
3 you can always use the 4.4 custom ROMs in the Dev section.

brace yourselves !!! those posts are coming

I liked the page. I cant believe Google have abandoned their original Nexus, which is still a top end phone even today.
Plus ive noticed on my tegra4 tab that Chrome is stuttery when scrolling but its smooth on my GOOGLE Nexus. Are Google optimizing software to run better on their products?

youve been on xda for a year and you still dont know how it works ? cmon man

I've tried the two 4.4 roms in the Development forum. There is still some graphic glitches, but i'm with "A taste of KitKat" since yesterday, had 1 random reboot, deep sleep is amazing, etc. And it's like 48h since the Nexus5 is on sale ! Imagine in 1 week what we will have !

I doubt a petition is going to do anything. Google has made up their mind.

Thread closed. A while ago, Google made a set of guidelines for other manufacturers that included 18 months support - I do not remember the full details of this alliance but if you Google it you should be able to find all the details. Galaxy Nexus has had 18 months support so Google have decided to stop supporting it... sure it sucks for you guys but that's what businesses do to make profits.

Can anyone Developer create the forum for Samsung Jét GT-S8000/3 in here xda..?
Samsung Jét looks same like Samsung Omnia II GT-I8000...
But Samsung S8000/3 is TouchWiz mobile (CPU 800MHz) and Samsung Jét can Run Android with JetQi Boot loader... (JetDroid)
it's nice if here xda-developers forum are forum for GT-S8000/3 ...

Heya!
Since i had a samsung JET(my touch screen is screwed due to some "pressure" with another phone inside my pocket), i was reading abt jetdroid, but never came across any conclusion about it. is that already possible, i mean, would that worth fixing it? speed, functions and everything? By your video, i noticed that it already works, but worth it?
Hello, I'm sorry for bringing up this dead topic. I would like to know if there has been a progress in this? Thanks!
Still waiting for Jetdroid...
I like my S8000 but the Samsung custom OS on it is too limited and they stopped support (updates) very early.

@Exnor I also like my S8000 very much, but I don't think so many people are interested in Jetdroid project.
Actually, it is very well described and easy to find in internet (although, unfortunatelly not on the XDA site). Did you install CM7 on your S8000?

Hi,
I've tried a early port and ride along with it since i've stop using my s8000 :/ in favor of my Galaxy nexus...
Its really sad to see such a good phone not getting more support ... the Jét still have a more decent hardware than the low end Android phones.
Thanks for the tip
Old good S8000 Jet
@Exnor I know what you mean, I have also been using my Galaxy S i9000 last two years But I want to revive it as my second phone again now.
Flashing the S8000 and upgrading it with Android OS is a real adventure with running Ubuntu in virtual box etc.
One of the guys who is still actively working on the Jetdroid project attends to build in the close future the ROM which uses linaro! It would give to old, good S8000 a real Jet speed.
There is also a CM10.2 ROM uploaded less than 2 weeks ago, look here:

We're all desperate for ROM updates, even the devs are when they're baffled by coding languages, but this is totally in the wrong forum and not even I ask for ETAs!
We love you, but it's just like growing up, and how your father might've told you to never ask for money. Here, ROM updates symbolise some free sort of money!

also with these other devices it was always a concern that we wouldnt see the source.
I believe the source dropped within two weeks of the phone being released.
So unless samsung really screws up they are already ahead of the game.
Not to mention htc's and motorola's ****ty locked bootloaders.

You sir are retarded. Steve (Cyanogen), personally has our device and promised we would get CM9. Additionally the newer Galaxy line will be some of the 1st devices to get updated ICS as confirmed by Samsung on their website & every tech hideout on the frigging web.
Let's leave the smart phones to smart people ok ?
A number of people (myself included) "donated" (it's not really a donation when you're asked to do it in exchange for something) to Cyanogen for the purpose of having their ROM on our phones. It would be common courtesy for them to at least provide a progress update every now and then. But apparently on this forum where arrogance rules asking for a timeline is a deadly sin.
You guys are so self-righteous it's disturbing. Yes, I donated $20 to Cyanogen and I would like to know when the ROM we were promised will come to fruition.
How is this any different than Bubby taking everyones money and never doing anything with the phone?

[REQ] Touchwiz on Galaxy Nexus

Hi.Is there something possible to make touchwiz run on Samsung Galaxy Nexus? An apk or something.Thx
just one question! WHY??? touchwiz ist absolutly gay! get a sgs2 if you want that
Wow. I wasn't sure a bad question could get worse but your ignorant response managed to do it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Touchwiz is impossible to port over to an AOSP based phone. TouchWiz is a seperate piece of software on the top of Android developed specifically for Samsung Software. Just because the GNexus is a Samsung phone doesn't mean Samsung's specified software will be on it.
Just isn't possible.
I think I saw a thread regarding this over at rootzwiki, just try using the search function either there or over here at XDA. As far as I know, the idea hasn't progressed far. To the people undermining this post, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I wouldn't call their response ignorant .. more surprised then anything since the SGII has better specs then the Gnex and is slated to get ICS w/ TouchWiz anyway. Why most bought a Gnex was to have a stock as a rock phone with no waiting on vendor updates after their 3rd party UI is bolted on.
So yeah .. why would you want to sully your ICS stock phone with TouchWiz? You might give the MIUI ICS rom a shot .. it's kind of iPhone/Touchwizy.

this thread is pure win
Probably safe to say there's low interest in porting it over. At the very earliest it won't happen until Samsung releases an ICS + Touchwiz update or phone that someone can backport.
Why would anyone want that? No disrespect mate, but the mind boggles.
You really want those horrible icons, cartoon fonts, and Windows 3.1 era buttons instead of the silky, understated sophistication of ICS? If you just got your Nexus, just spend a few weeks with it and I guarantee that you won't want anything else.
On the other hand, if you do really want it, trade your phone for a Galaxy S2.
I am just sayin', because I don't see anyone porting TWiz (or Sense, or Blur) to the GNexus. See how all the custom ROMs remain true to the ICS interface.
ho ho ho
samsung should read this thread, it might make them think about touch-wiz and its terrible looks, i had touch wiz on my mk1 galaxy tab... for 3 hours! then i flashed a new rom
its just like a thread i saw years ago on the G1 forum where someone asked if anyone was working on porting WM6.5 to the G1 - you can guess how that went down.
anyhow - for anyone who does want the touch wiz look why not install miui and use a theme, okay so there is one cool feature on touch-wiz.. the CLOCK it is actually a very nice clock. Google need to do more with widgets and apps for android.. i know they could do such a good job if only they thought about adding a bit more to the experience.
anyways - i think if cm9 can be ported to the sgs2 and if htc sense ui can be ported to the g1 theres no reason touchwiz cant be ported to the GalNex but you would need a bunch of folks who want it first !!
..
Hell no.

Its almost as worse as someone asking to port HTC Sense over...I mean, WHY!
If you download Mediafire then search for 'Samsunghome.apk' then download it. also if you are running a custom rom that supports themes e.g CM7 you can download Touchwizzed-CM7 of the Market to co-aside with it. Simples!
I created a thread about this topic earlier and just as you would expect, people trashed it as well. It's such a shame so many of these Nexus owners are AOSP freaks. There are many great UI's out there that people like and to call any of them "gay" or "trash" is just blatantly ignorant. Unfortunately, I've learned that a good portion of XDA members are very disrespectful. Tread lightly OP.

Most people buy a Nexus so we won't have to deal with the horrible skins that manufacturers force down our throats. They're tacky and slow down the whole OS. There's nothing "ignorant" about wanting our open source phones to be completely open and clean.

Unless you can provide statistics, I wouldn't go around stating things like "most people". For example, the only reason I got a Nexus is because I wanted a flagship Samsung device on Verizon and they decided to skip the Galaxy SII for the Galaxy Nexus. So I had no choice. If it was any other way, I would happily take the Galaxy SII for better performance hardware, better camera, better battery life and TouchWiz 4.0. Since it will clearly be getting ICS very soon, and 100% someone will develop an AOSP ROM for it as well, I would have considered that a much better investment. Where as with a Nexus, I'm stuck with AOSP like it or not.

Time to start a campaign

That being, a campaign of Twitter and G+ posts to try and get some form of response from Google about the next OTA for the Galaxy Nexus, or at least some transparency on where they are up to with the release.
I am thinking a hashtag like #NexusOTA
Let's pretend i'm a big person at Android team. I can realease ICS 4.0.5 for you tomorrow, but it'll have nearly same issues as 4.0.3. Do you really want it? I don't.
Next version of ICS will be out as soon as it's ready!
I think what scottatron is saying is why the heck do they take so long...be transparent about at what stage of development they're up to and give us an estimate of when is ready...I mean a the whole premise of a Google phone is the continuing update and support, they can be more open and up front about it

Pretty much spot on.
I agree, there are enough issues to warrant releases. And some regions have yet to get an OTA release. Seems odd given ICS was intended to simplify development by making it platform independent.

Here's the thing... Either you really care that much about being up to date on 4.0.3/4.0.4 instead of 4.0.2, and you just flash a custom ROM; OR you don't care that much and you should be happy with 4.0.2 and it'll be OTAd as soon as it's ready.
Chill. No one is going to do this and no one will listen. You think that Googlers are going to see a bunch of tweets and be like "omg I guess we should start coding this next OTA release! We'll stop slacking!". Good lord, people...
They're not going to release the OTA until its ready. I'd take a 4.0.4 that's fully baked rather than a 4.0.3 that has some fixes and leaves bugs... and another OTA to 4.0.4 after that to fix the rest.
Didn't they run into more problems by giving ETA's and then missing them?

Some people (like myself) chose to buy a Nexus because it offers you the freedom to choose whether or not you want to root/hack/ROM your phone. I primarily bought the Nexus because I was tired of rooting/ROMing being the only option I had to get a near-AOSP experience with the features I wanted.
It's okay to not root, just don't complain about OTAs if you choose not to. Similar to my previous post -- if you care enough to be following 4.0.x releases, you should not complain about the quickness of your OTAs imho. Part of choosing to stay stock is dealing with the OTA release schedule. There are pros and cons to both sides. If you really want OTAs on your schedule, you just have to do the work and manually make it happen.
This is starting to remind me of the Nexus One and the froyo release. People are freaking out because they aren't getting nightly builds from Google.
Grow up.

95% of people here respond as they do because the could care less about OTA's because we install custom ROMs.

That's pretty much why I got a Nexus One and stuck with the brand. While the ROM scene is pretty cool I really can't be bothered to spend my life messing around with my primary phone (got sick of that back in the WinMob days), I'd rather have something which just works and doesn't have a 6 month lag for updates due to OEMs and carriers dicking about with the software. But I like hanging about on XDA because it's the first place I'll hear about OTA's and the first place I'll hear about something which will make me re-think my "can't be bothered with custom ROM's" stance.
Boohoo it'll come when it comes. Just stay calm, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the phone.

why do u guys think google is just sitting on its ass and not developing. id rather have something finished than something half baked.
4.0 is a drastic new os, it takes time to develop these things.
What Google needs to do for the Nexus lineup is what they do with Google Chrome, they should have a Stable channel a Beta channel and a developer channel that you can pick from for your updates.
These threads are getting annoying. You bothered to make an account on XDA and you bought a Nexus device, ROOT IT.
Also, Google isn't obligated to give you anything but the latest Official version of Android via source, they don't have to give you an OTA and before you go on and say "the nexus program is all about being first" ITS NOT. Its about establishing a standard for manufacturers and developers to build upon not for some end user to ***** and complain about a small revision change that he doesn't have.
You have Android 4.0
No other phone has Android 4.0
SO SHUT UP AND BE HAPPY

PTPT-New Beta Software for Android

Hey guys, just wanted to share this with you. Thought it was pretty neat and a fresh take on android since the roms lately kinda seem like the same old stuff anymore, not to put down the great work the devs of this community put out. I just signed up to be a beta tester so hopefully they'll email me back saying i can test this software. I believe this would be considered closed source, but would be great if they approached this community for input into this OS. If this has been covered already, mods please let me know and this posting can be deleted.

New PTPT Beta Release
Hi t1.8matt,
I was able to try PTPT's previous version and I agree -> a definite fresh take on android They'll be launching a newer release some time next week. Probably Friday March 22, so stay tuned. Along with the release, there will be an easier way for beta testers to login and download the .apk.
I wanted to share a video with you re: PTPT but currently, I am not allowed to post outside links
Cheers!
Honestly, I watched a couple videos on it and dont really find the UI pleasing to the eye. But I guess I will keep an eye on it just in case.
PTPT New UI
Hi jsgraphicart, PTPT's initial UI needed to be a lot more user friendly. I saw the latest version of their UI and there has been much improvement. Hopefully, you'll join as a beta tester when the new release comes out next week. I'll make sure to send you the link.
Cheers!
