The rom is installed in the phone's recovery, not odin. Put the rom zip on your storage (internal or sdcard) in addition to a m919 kernel (carrier specific), reboot into recovery, choose install and select the rom you put there. Proceed to flash the rom zip, then flash the kernel and reboot. Now set up your phone... :good:
Okay i know how to put the rom zip on the phone but where can I find the kernel for my carrier? I tried finding it but I can't find a download link. In the about section of my device it says kernel number is 3.4.0-897376. The only thing I need is the kernel. I know how to to do the rest thanks to you

You can use any kernel that is made for your device (carrier specific). Just make sure you flash it over the rom BEFORE you reboot.

if flashed by recovery or as a one package installer in odin, it wont
only if you have to extract the zip or rar and end with 4 filss wich you neeed to flash, dont know if you can skip a file, may cause problems.
however most roms are installed via recovery or a one package

A one package TAR flashed in Odin can still change the baseband. All the one package means is that the 4 files are in one package. I flashed GioPro 1.4 one package from my Canadian GIO and my phone changed to the Euro baseband which does not work in Canada (properly). Luckily I have a baseband only Odin TAR file that I can use to restore my baseband to any ROM.
But as for the particle ROM, if you go to his website: http://particle.blurringexistence.net/ you have the option of downloading the baseband and then just the CWM flashable zip. You just need to download the CWM flashable zip. You do not need to flash the baseband with Odin like it says on the instructions.

The answers you got in Task's threads still stand. It's either that you have to update your cwm (make sure it's d2att) or you'll have to use TWRP.
You can also redownload or
cut out a line in the updater script but I don't suggest that.

You need to update your recovery. Either use rom manager or, if you can't boot up, download an cwm flashable zip located at the bottom of post #2 in my signature link. Place it on a micro sd card and flash it in recovery. Go to advanced and reboot recovery. Flash rom and gapps again
Either your recovery is outdated, or you are trying to flash a device that isn't displaying itself as an i747 (d2att). This could be because your using a Canadian version of the s3, or your trying to flash the att Rom on a tmo, vzw, or Sprint version of the phone.
So I successfully rooted my S3 (Bell I747M), installed TWRP recovery, booted into the recovery, created a backup (thank god!), wiped using TWRP (factory reset -> wipe dalvik -> wipe cache -> wipe data) and then went into install, selected the CyanogenMod zip and swiped to flash. Failed. Every time. I tried numerous wipes but flashing CM just kept on failing. So I got fed up and restored to my backup.
But I really want CM! One more maybe-important thing is that when I was installing TWRP, it said my device was d2can, even though my device is actually I747M. But I remember when downloading CM I had to download the d2att version (that was listed as the one compatible with my I747M), but TWRP was saying d2can and not giving me the option to choose anything else so I just went with it.
Please try and help me!
Did you download the d2att version of cm?

Hmm alright, are you able to flash any other roms?
I had a similar issue and im trying to recall what I did to overcome this..
EDIT: I think I remember. I flashed a different CWM version and for some reason it prevented me from flashing CM10.1.. Do a google search for "CanadaGS3CWM6.0.1.2.tar" and let me know if it works. If you cant find it shoot me a PM and ill look for it.
Thanks for the reply.
I haven't tried flashing any other room but I have successfully flashed a debloating software made by mrRobinson.
Also‚ I'm not using CWM‚ I'm using TWRP. I installed it through the GooManager app found in the Play store.
If I have already installed TWRP then will I still be able to install that CWM file you are suggesting I install?
It is late now and I am going to bed but I'll be back on tomorrow evening to try again so I'll try what you said then.

I think the issue is that I'm trying to flash a d2att ROM on a TWRM that thinks I'm on a d2can device when in reality I'm on an I747M. The d2att is said to work on the I747M on CyanogenMod's website though so I think the issue is flashing the d2att when TWRP thinks I'm on a d2can.
Anyone have a clue as to what to do about that?

You'll need a d2att version of twrp. You can get the odin flammable file off their website.
You'll also need to verify your boot loader is up to date. Many people having the same problem.

Yup just in odin like a root file. It goes in the pda section. Uncheck reboot,. When it finishes unhook the cable pull the battery and than reboot into recovery after. Sometimes the flash doesn't stick after a reboot.
Cm10.1 has a release candidate out right now rc4 it's pretty stable.
You'll need to make sure your bootlader is up to date before you flash it though.

The second link has the latest boot loaders sorry I should have mentioned that. It has to match the one listed.
I don't know what you downloaded but the twrp recovery off their site should be the .tar to load in odin. The .img file you'd have to load using adb. Easier to use the odin file. No unzipping just flash with odin.

Btw, CM10.1 RC5 is pretty stable with good battery life.
Could you please tell me what method was used? I have a Bell GS3 as well. I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 to get root and recovery today. I have now tried flashing CM10.1 using the latest CWM and TWRP d2att recoveries and neither work. I'm giving up for today but will try again after work tomorrow. I've read stuff about changing the build.prop files to trick the phone but I don't know where to start.

Hey guys. I'm trying to flash the S4 Revolution rom on my S3 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311671]
I downloaded the rom and put it on my sd card. Went into recovery mode and tried to flash the rom. It wiped all my data but didn't flash the rom. What am I doing wrong? I've read something about a "clockwork recovery image," what is that? Please help.

B) unfortunately you won't get any sympathy for not reading up first.

OK. I'm still not sure what that means. But what I did was flash the stock ROM for Rogers 4.1.1 that comes pre-rooted. My next objective is to get the S4 rom on it. I guess I'll just download Rom Manager and install that then save the S4 ROM to the micro sd and flash like that. I wanted to avoid putting it on the micro SD, though.

You first need to root, I think there are two ways of doing it, I usually do it with odin and cf-autoroot. I'm not familiar with other ways.
Then you can install recovery trough odin OR using goo manager from playstore and press menu, install open recovey script
Once you have done all this, you will be ready to install a new rom.
Take a look at the cf-autoroot thread and the twrp thread in the development section.
Read a lot before attempting stuff, you need to prepare yourself and understabd how it works or your risk ending up with an expensive paperweight.
