Hi,
I did enough Google search to find how to check if the bootloader is unlocked or for that matter the bootloader lock status. I have found various threads which point me to different devices like HTC, Xperia, etc. but I have not seen any related with Galaxy S4.
From some articles over the internet I read that Samsung Galaxy S4 (T Mobile) has come with unlocked bootloader.
I am very curious to know if there is any app or a command to check the bootloader lock status. I assume that there would be something (e.g. flag or data element) that identifies the bootloader as locked or unlocked.
So, I would request any help in finding the bootloader lock status for Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile).
Is there a generic method for android devices using adb commands? OR
Is it means of any process? OR
finding the bootloader lock status is device dependent?
Thanks in advance
Bottom line....your bootloader is not locked. Samsung doesnt lock bootloaders.
BUT, the new 4.3.3 firmware (not released for Tmobile yet) may be a different stoty....

Hi allowcowboy,
Thanks for your reply. I understand from different posts that t mobile galaxy s4 comes bootloader unlocked.
My question is, as a developer, how will I be able to find that bootloader lock status - for that matter, for any Android device?
Thanks.

I think you know if the bootloader is lock in Download mode. Also Samsung have unlock bootloaders but carriers like ATT and Verizon locks them.. The 4.3 update will have unlock bootloader as well but it will have knox in it and will reset your counter.

Thanks for shedding some light on the topic.
In Download mode, how would I be able to find it out?
Thanks.

I'm not so sure why it's so hard to find information on this. After reading here, here, and here, I thought there might be a way to check it using the "fastboot" command. But then I read this, and finally this (the last one might be the only one worth linking for our SG4 case), there might be no way to check it using the "fastboot" command.
Then I searched through the [*#0011# > hard button back > key input Q > key input 0000 > select 7 ] menu, didn't find anything.
Installed an app named DevCheck System Info, under the System tab I see that my bootloader is listed as 'I337MVLUGOH1', googled 'I337MVLUGOH1 bootloader' thinking I might some information on it. Nope, but I found this list of many bootloader links.
This command also gets the same result: adb bugreport | find "bootloader"
Might just try to do what I wanted to anyway and see how it goes. I've already taken a good backup of my files.

RaniKheir,
You can always give it a try!
Just wanted to let you know, though, your phone is an I337, which is an AT&T phone, this is the T-Mobile forum.
Samsung, until the S7, did not lock bootloaders by themselves, but would lock them for other companies. AT&T always asks for the bootloader to be locked since the S4 was NB1. Since your AT&T phone is an OH1, it is a safe bet that it is locked.

Woops, I found this thread through Google, sorry about that.
Would the process to check for locked/unlocked bootloaders be different if the carrier varies?

It's actually a Koodo from Canada so its bootloader was unlocked.
I managed to install TWRP fine, then made a backup, and attempted to install Xposed. Got stuck on the load screen, read more and turns out I'll need to use a deodexed ROM for that, oh the joy of playing the experimentingxpatience game
I leaned something new! Glad to hear that!

RaniKheir,
Since your bootloader is unlocked, you should try this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development/rom-aokp-mm-t3391994
The people on this thread are using Xposed on this rom (which is made to flash on all S4's that use GSM - like yours). I know Xposed will work with this rom, since others are using it, and if you have trouble, you can ask them what to do.
In either event, I learned something new about Canadian phones - I guess maple does really make everything better!
I want to find the same answer....I preordered the Tmobile Note 7 and since the S7 was locked on TMobile its anyones guess about the Note 7 now... when I get it I want to be able to check it because if it is locked I want to return it. I did read that T-Mobile went to bat against Samsung and requested some S7 come unlock but that still doesn't mean that the Note series is the clear....

Hi dumbledon,
Your phone is an i9505, which is the international version. If I am not mistaken, your version is already unlocked.
Follow these instructions and you should have no problems at all. If you do have any issue, just let us know and we can walk you through it:
Here is my recommendation:
If you use Windows instructions
Code:
Go to: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/
and download 3.0.2-0 tar
Then, download this:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/7us5q44aab1xl9d/Odin304.zip
-Unzip Odin.
-Turn on your phone (normal turn on) boot up into the stock system.
-plug in your phone, let Windows find the drivers.
-Once Windows found your drivers, unplug the phone, turn your phone off.
-open Odin.exe
-Click on PDA, and choose the TWRP file you downloaded.
-With your phone unplugged and off, Now press and hold the DOWN volume button and the power button.
-When the phone vibrates, you can release the power button, but keep holding the down button.
-You will see a warning screen. Release the down button, and press the volume up button to enter "download" mode.
-Plug your phone into the computer.
-Press start/ok button on Odin.
You should see a blue bar on your phone screen that fills up from left to right. Odin should say "pass" or "success". Your phone should automatically reboot itself. If this did not happen, seek help. Seriously. :D
-Plug your phone into the computer again, and copy the Gapps and Rom from post #1 to your external sdcard of your phone.
-Now, turn off the phone again.
-Hold the UP volume button, and the power button.
-When the phone vibrates, you can release the power button, but keep holding the UP volume button.
-You will enter TWRP. Now you can release the UP volume button.
-You should now MAKE A BACKUP TO YOUR EXTERNAL SDCARD. -With this, you can always go back!
-After making a backup, you should wipe your phone. Select wipe, slide the slider to wipe your phone. This will not wipe your external sdcard.
-Install Rom.
-Wipe Cache and Davlik.
-Install Gapps. - Optional
-Reboot to system and enjoy!
If you use Linux instructions
Code:
Go to: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/
and download 3.0.2-0 img
Then,
$ sudo apt-get heimdall heimdall-frontend -y
$ sudo heimdall-frontend
-This will open up heimdall.
-Click on the tab called Utilities
-With your phone unplugged and off, press and hold the DOWN volume button and the power button.
-When the phone vibrates, you can release the power button, but keep holding the down button.
-You will see a warning screen. Release the down button, and press the volume up button to enter "download" mode.
-Plug your phone into the computer.
-Under Detect Device, click "detect" - the Output box will say something like, detected.
-Under Download PIT -> destination file -> click save as.
-Choose a name for your pit, like jfltexx.pit
-Click Download.
-Exit heimdall-frontend and power off your phone by holding the power button.
-Open heimdall again with the command: $ sudo heimdall-frontend
-Click the tab called "Flash"
-Under "pit" click browse.
-Choose the pit file you downloaded.
-Under partitions(files), click "add"
-Under Partition Details, click partition name, and click recovery.
-Under File (recovery.img), click browse.
-Choose the 3.0.2-0 img you downloaded.
-Click on the "Utilities" tab.
-Under Detect Device, click "detect" - the Output box will say something like, detected.
-Click on the Flash tab.
-Under Session, click "start"
You should see a blue bar on your phone screen that fills up from left to right. Heimdall should say "pass" or "success". Your phone should automatically reboot itself. If this did not happen, seek help. Seriously. :D

OK folks - I have TWRP installed and root checker says im rooted - i'm a bit unsure of which direction to take for a custom ROM - im reading that the custom rom version must match stock version (for me 5.0.1) - is this the case ?
Im not really bothered about launchers and that - but i'd like bloatware removed , fairly fast , and good battery - i was thinking something CWM based but has the scene changed ?

havent done anything like this for a couple of years - cheers

I recommend these:
AOKP MM 6.0.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3391994
SlimLP 5.1.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3377731
They were built for jfltetmo, but have been proven to work very well on your phone.
Good luck and be sure to follow the flashing instructions!
-AlaskaLinuxUser https://thealaskalinuxuser.wordpress.com
Thanks AlaskaLinuxuser
I went for the AOKP - its great stable smooth fast light and debloated - no issues did i come across apart from a little favor
i think it would be nice if people could make the battery "percentage remaining" text a color of their choice
like 55 % or 55 % or 55 % etc etc
Overall great job :good:
Hi all
this rom AOKP MM 6.0.1 has been great for the past week or so - i have one quite substantial problem i have just encountered
An app which i use a lot called Vomino (available Play store) - is coming back with this error message after I install it
"Cannot load native library CPU arch is invalid for this build"
I've tried removing and reinstalling vomino a few times and always at the final part of installing - where it says enjoy our service it displays that error message - the interface remains in place and you can choose contacts but there is no response when dialing a phone number (or clicking a contact)
can someone please try it on their own devices ?
I really need to get this working - thanks

everything you need is here
Code:

a thorough explanation .. too you wont need to ask question..
To be honest, I had some problems getting my phone rooted as well. This is how I finally got it rooted (HTC WildFire S A501e S-ON unlocked bootloader):
1. First, download the following file: http://www.mediafire.com/?b0bsb4ms4lo714b Don't worry, it's not a virus, it's simply an auto-installer for ClockWorkMod Recovery. You can find the guy who made it here.
2. Once you've downloaded the file, plug your phone into your computer in "Charge Only" mode and make sure you have USB Debugging on (Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB Debugging). Then run the .exe and follow the steps.
3. Now I don't remember if it will automatically reboot the phone or not, but if it doesn't, reboot your phone. Heck, you could reboot it twice if you'd like .
4. Then download this attachment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=672519&d=1312136127. It's the root script. Put it on the SD card. Remember where you placed the file! Of course the easiest place to place it would be in the main directory of the SD card...
5. Then turn off the phone and then boot into your bootloader. You can do this by holding the Volume Down button and then pressing the Power button. You'll see a white screen with coloured text on it. You should see "UNLOCKED" right at the top, meaning you have an unlocked bootloader. After a few seconds of being in the bootloader, it'll do a scan for some certain .zip's, don't be afraid, just wait a few seconds until you see the bootloader menu again, it shouldn't find any of the right .zip's anyway.
6. Navigate with the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to the menu entry "Recovery" and then press the Power button to confirm. It'll now boot into your recovery, which you installed earlier, where you'll find yourself in a menu.
7. In this menu, use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate to "Install zip from SD card". Press the Power button to confirm.
8. Now go to "Choose zip from SD card". Again, press the Power button and search for root.zip, wherever you placed it. When you've found it, press the power button again. Press YES when asked for it.
9. Let it do its job. Once it's done, it'll tell you so. Press "Go back" on the menu until you find the "Power Off" option. Select it and your phone will turn off. Turn it back on and let it boot into Android.
10. Congratulations, your phone should now be rooted. Download an app requiring root privileges like TitaniumBackup to confirm this.
I hope this helped you. Let me know if you need any explanation on anything.
just wanted to say thanks to you both, i went with BvOBart's method and it worked perfectly thanks a lot!! i wouldnt mind a couple of suggestions for things i can do now that i have root

Do nything but back up your phone from cwm.. n then you might like to use some new roms that you can fine on index thread by tectas on general section.. if you wanna stay with sense the just read my signature n comment what ever you want in the Rom . I will cook that for you .. the Rom will be starting at 1st April

You're welcome I'd recommend you do a backup using CWM recovery first, then install Titanium Backup and do a backup with that and then you could go experiment with some ROMs, while still keeping all of your apps, settings, and data and in case you really **** up, you can always restore your CWM backup. You could also stay with the stock ROM and enjoy Superuser privileges for some awesome apps or hacks. I've heard it's possible to hack a WiFi network using an Android phone, root privileges and some software... But I don't remember how...

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS, OR BRICKING THAT IS A RESULT FROM YOU CHOOSING TO ROOT. HOWEVER, IF YOU SOFT BRICK YOUR PHONE, IT CAN BE FIXED VIA CLOCKWORK RECOVERY (TO BE POSTED SOON)
WARNING ABOUT USING ODIN: IF YOU ARE A NOOB, ONLY CLICK ON THE BUTTONS I TELL YOU TO CLICK, AND NOTHING ELSE. I ACCIDENTALLY SOFT BRICKED MY PHONE BECAUSE I HIT THE WRONG BUTTON WHILE USING ODIN.
AND LASTLY, ROOTING WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
What you will need to do this:
What you will need before you start:
A computer with a internet connection, and running Microsoft Windows XP or higher, with at least one working USB hub.
A Samsung Galaxy Discover - SGH-S730m
Samsung USB Drivers: Here
UnlockRoot Free (you don't need the paid version): Here

** Please click on "File" then "Download" inside of Google Drive
Rooting the SGH-S730m
1. Download and install UnlockRoot Free on your PC (here if you like to procrastinate). YOU DO NOT HAVE TO INSTALL BLOATWARE!!! PLEASE READ SETUP INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!
2. Download and Install Samsung USB Drivers (here as well). If it prompts you to reboot for any reason, then reboot your Computer.
3. After all of this is over, you have to prepare yourself for the hardest part of this whole process, and maybe the most complicated dilemma you will ever face in the entirety of your lives.
4. Turn on your phone if it isn't already. Wait for the phone to fully boot.
5. Plug your phone into the computer via USB.
6. Run UnlockRoot on your computer and click the "Root" Button (when it prompts you to install bloatware apps on your device, say no).
DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL UnlockRoot SAYS IT IS OK TO DO SO!!!!
Congratulations, you have should now have a rooted SGH-730m in proximity to your hands!
DIAGNOSTICS:
If by any reason, you feel unsure as to if your phone is actually rooted or not:
Install a root checking app.
These apps will tell you if your phone has root access or not.
Try Root Checker from the Google Play Store.
Install a terminal emulation app.
In these apps, type the command "su" (without quotes). If you get "permission denied" you have not rooted your device. If it prompts you for root privileges (ie a popup appears) then your device is rooted!
Try Terminal Emulator from the Google Play Store.
If you are a n00b (like me occasionally), and you fail to understand why something works, or, the exact opposite: Don't worry! You probably thought the auxiliary headphone jack was the USB port, or, thought you should unplug your phone early, despite me warning you not to do that. That's okay, you can get it fixed.
If you somehow managed to soft brick your phone, or, it boots to a black screen, then you can also continue to the next step.
Installing Clockwork Mod Recovery
This is when things start to get scary. If you are a beginner Odin person, then you must follow these steps very carefully, or you might brick your phone.
1. Download the Odin Flashing Application. All you need to do is extract the folder inside of the zip and place it onto your desktop.
2. Right click on the .exe file inside of the odin folder and select “Run as Administrator”
3. Now that odin is running:
4. CLICK ON THE PDA BUTTON
5. When the file window appears, browse to the desktop directory (your desktop) and select recovery.tar.md5
6. Press Start.
DO NOT DISCONNECT, UNPLUG, PLAY WITH ANY BUTTONS, OR CLICK ANYTHING ON EITHER THE PHONE OR COMPUTER UNTIL ODIN HAS FINISHED FLASHING CLOCKWORK RECOVERY ON YOUR PHONE.
7. To boot into recovery, just turn of the phone and press the upper volume button.
That should be IT!
A TriangleAway patch (a way to get rid of the yellow triangle that might appear on boot) post will follow eventually!
Please post any mistakes (or broken links) of this OP below. I will try to fix the instructions accordingly. I am not always online, but it may appear that I am. Please post questions, or corrections on this thread.

has anyone started working on a new rom for it, or a way to overclock the cpu a bit to help make it perform a little better, 800 MHz is a tad on the slow side but usable, if we can get it bumped up to at least 1 GHz that would be a big improvement.

I bought mine unlocked from Amazon, and I've seen them for sale on ebay also.
I have seen sites that claim to be able to unlock the Galaxy Discover S730M so you should be able to get a unlock code for it.
I finally had a chance to try this out, was able to root with no problems thanks OP. MY only remaining annoyance with the stock rom is the lock screen. I'd like to replace the swipe to unlock screen that Samsung used on this with the stock ICS unlock screen. Can you recommend any that would work with CWM if flashed to the s730M?

How to verify your 730M is rooted
6. Now shutdown your phone. Boot into odin download mode by turning the phone (release the power button as the phone vibrates) and holding the lower volume button and home key. Follow the instructions (press the upper volume button) to continue with download mode.
7. Inside of odin, press the "Start" button.
DO NOT DISCONNECT, UNPLUG, PLAY WITH ANY BUTTONS, OR CLICK ANYTHING ON EITHER THE PHONE OR COMPUTER UNTIL ODIN HAS FINISHED FLASHING CLOCKWORK RECOVERY ON YOUR PHONE.
8. To boot into clockwork recovery, hold down the upper volume and power key until the first vibration, then just hold the volume key.
That should be IT!
How to recover from a soft brick
YOU MUST HAVE A MICRO SD CARD WITH AT LEAST 500 MB OF FREE STORAGE SPACE TO DO THIS!
To reduce confusion, please remove any backups that you may already have (which would be funny, you wouldnt have to do this anyways).
1. Download the rooted stock CWM Recovery Image (.zip) I made from here, to your device (preferably a computer).
2. Extract ALL of the contents of the zip file to the root directory of your micro SD Card. The folder should be named "clockworkrecovery".
3. Remove the SD card from the remote device, and turn off the SGH-S730m.
4. Remove the back plating from the phone, and insert the micro SD card into the phone.
5. After putting the phone back together, boot into recovery by holding down the upper volume and power key until the first vibration, then just hold the volume key.
6. Using the volume keys as scrolling keys, scroll down using the lower volume until you see "backup and restore". Touch the menu item.
7. Touch the "restore" option.
8. If you extracted the zip file the exact way I told you to: you should see a menu option. If you didn't do what I told you to, you may see "No files found". If it says "cant mound /sd" (or something similar), you probably have a bad SD Card, or, forgot to put it in correctly.
9. Click on the menu item.
WAIT FOR THE PHONE TO BE 100% DONE RESTORING YOUR BACKUP TO THE PHONE! YOU COULD HARD BRICK THE PHONE (BECAUSE CWM RECOVERY WRITES TO THE BOOTLOADER). DO NOT TURN OFF THE PHONE, THE PHONE IS NOT FROZEN IF IT WONT RESPOND FOR A WHILE.
10. If you did this correctly, you should have a rooted, restored SGH-S730m!
A Triangle Away Tutorial will come soon!

I just use holo locker from the market.

Unless we have custom ROM devs for this device: there is no way to actually remove the samsung lockscreen.
Does anyone know what system apk handles the lockscreen? It probably requires some deox work on some system files.
If you are looking for an app, try Holo Locker from Google Play Store. I use it for both the 730M and I777. It can glitch though, but it works!

Ok, I wasn't sure. I had seen where they were able to edit a file in the policy.jar file here to change it back to the stock lock screen on a touchwiz rom.
I wasn't sure if it could be done on this one.

The ROM has to be Dedeoxed first (according to the OP of the thread you linked).

Root S730M
Tried yesterday and it worked on the phone from Bell. Thanks!
Thanks for the efforts
Bricked my wifes phone trying to get it to work on Koodo for picture messageing. Luckily I was able to use ODIN to load Clockwork loader and load your backup. It is back to a telus phone but for the first time since we switched to Koodo I was able to send a text from the Galaxy discover.
When I built a new APN for Koodo it showed up at the top and Telus was second. This was previously Telus at the top even though I had the Koodo enabled not the Telus it would not send a picture.
Now the funny thing is my LG optimus won't send a picture and I have changed nothing. Koodo is driving me nuts. and it's a short trip. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

LG is working again?????
Latest in the Telus moving to Koodo Saga. Both the LG P500 and the Samsung SGH S730M do not send MMS. I loaded ICS on the LG from Oxygen and can now send MMS from the LG. Carrier shows as Telus. The Samsung recieves just fine but will not send MMS. I tried switching MPS code.dat in EFS to KDO from TLS but it did not work. Does anybody know what settings might be changed to make this phone a KOODO phone or think it's a KOODO phone. Or even a plain google phone. Thanks:fingers-crossed:

Are you referring to the customer sales code?
It is embedded everywhere in the Android operating system.
Commonly known as the CSC.
I will post as many locations of the csc code as I can find.
As a note, if you install Holo Launcher from Google play, you can add "activities" to your homescreen, giving you access to hidden apps that require dial pad access.
One activity is called "preconfig". DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL OTHER CERTIFICATES: IT WILL RESET YOUR PHONE AND THE CSC WILL REMAIN THE SAME: TLS.
I will try to help. I wish I knew more about this phone's structure.

Ok so here it is. I never post things on XDA because usually if you take the time to read and do some searching through google you can resolve your problems.
Anyways here's my problem. I traded my Blackberry Z10 (piece of sh**) for a Galaxy Nexus at a pawn shop. :highfive:
I was pretty happy to get my hands back to an android device and start flashing custom Roms and all that buzz.
It was instantly rooted when i got home, flashed a slimkat rom on there and had fun for a bit. :good:
Then my data connection was not working, so i flashed an AOKP Rom over top of the old rom without wiping anything previously. I did make a backup through TWRP but then i couldn't touch the screen in TWRP (power button still locked it though) so i gave up with that and tried CWM. NOTHING.
Now, 5 fuc***g days later, after searching, downloading, flashing stock images, following directions. I am still staring into this annoying as hell "X" boot loop.
I swear to you that i have tried absolutely everything I can possibly do to get it to stop.
-downloaded about 3 different google factory images
-tryed to un-root and re-root
-tryed to wipe the boot.img, system.img, userdata, bootloader, recovery, cache
-re-locked and un-locked bootloader (oem)
-I have tryed two different toolkits (Wugg's and Skipsoft) and i swear i have pushed every god damn button on both toolkits by now
-I even called google just to see what they would say, they just got me to go into the stock recovery and factory reset and clear the cache part.
-then google support told me to call samsung , just so they could tell me to do the exact same thing as google.
-the drivers are all installed correctly, but it will only recognize it in fastboot
-I cant even try an adb logcat command to see what is happening because USB Debugging is not on (not like i can turn it on)
Please if you think there is something that i have not tried go ahead and shoot at me with some kind of direction
***UPDATE**** to anyone who is reading this
I have fixed the bootloop. all thanks to legija (SEE- (http) forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f634/unbrick-dead-samsung-gt-i9250-galaxy-nexus-gt-i9100g-gt-i9300-1465412/)
it had somthing to do with Omap. - LINK for omapflash- (http) d-h.st/XNv
if you may have the same problem as me follow these steps
1. Download the zip file created by Legija
2. Extract zip to whatever location you're comfortable with (I used Android directory)
3. Open up Device Manager (Hold down Windows Key, press R, the type in devmgmt.msc and press OK)
4. Go to actions menu, select Add Legacy Hardware
5. Choose install manually, then have disk. Browse to where you extracted the zip, select the 'inf' file in usb_drv_windows
6. Choose OMAP, you'll get a popup if on Win 7, continue anyway (driver not signed)
7. Once completed with driver, pull battery out of phone, then plug it into USB
8. Double click omap4460_tuna_hs_pro.bat to start the process. Once you see "Press any key to continue..." close the CMD window and proceed to step 9
9. Unplug from USB, put battery back in, and power-up!
10. Extra step - depending on what's been done, it may 'brick' again - suggest to do a restore or a wipe reinstall afterwards to be certain (mine bricked again next reboot)
Hi,
I don't guaranteed if this works but maybe you could try Odin and reflash through your PC

I can put into odin mode, but if i plug it into my computer the device inst recognized. It just stays at the "downloading... do not turn off target" screen. So im not to sure how i would go about re-flashing it.
But thank you for the reply. Sir:good:
Was your bootloader still unlocked when you tried to lock it?

yes it was. would it make a difference?
Honestly i have even tried the ODIN program 2 different ways (just as xamxamas suggested) and now im thinking that the kernal has something to do with it.
Well I think you have a fried eEMMC (your internal storage is dead). When you reboot everything was as it was before no matter what you did?

Hey guys in the many years I've been into android I've never owned a Samsung and never owned a note. ...so here's my question. ...
I'm used to having to unlock the bootloader to do any custom rom flashing....I've been scouring these note 4 threads (all variants) and can't seem to find anything pertaining to unlocking the bootloader...so I'm wondering if anyone could drop a few lines or a link to help me understand the process of rooting/unlocking bootloader/recovery/flashing for the note 4....my apologies if this has already been covered or if is a dumb question but I'd like to have all the info i can before doing any modding to my phone

Assuming you have the Sprint variant, and the drivers, for your computer, download the latest version of Odin, the latest TWRP, and Chainfire's SuperSu zip. Place the SuperSu zip on you phone's storage (either internal, or external micro sd). Place the TWRP tar file, in the "PDA" or "AP" slot (depends on version of Odin), uncheck auto reboot. Power phone off, and boot into download mode (hold volume down, and the physical home button, and press the power button. You should get a warning about custom operating systems- press volume up. Connect phone to computer, if everything is set up correctly, you should see a "com" number appear near the upper left of the Odin program. Uncheck "auto reboot", press start- process should go very quickly. Once it completes, hold the volume up, and the home button. Without releasing, the other buttons, press and hold the power button, until the phone reboots. If the phone doesn't reboot, and you're certain TWRP flashed, without errors. Pull the battery. Again hold volume up, and home, and press power. As the phone powers on, you should see the recovery booting text, at which point, you can release the buttons. Flash Chainfire's SuperSu zip, in TWRP, if you want root.
tldr: Odin TWRP, flash SuperSu in TWRP

1. Flash CF-Auto-Root
Reboot
2. Flash TWRP Recovery
Reboot
3. Rejoice!
Both of the above linked files are installed through Odin.
I used Odin included in the CF-Auto-Root zipfile for both flashes. Be sure to only flash through the PDA button in Odin, and nothing else.

That's it
Hi there,
I have a problem with my Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503, KitKat 4.4.4, 14.4.A.0.157). I recently decided to install CyanogenMod 11 on my mobile phone (which has bootloader unlocked, is rooted and has the TWRP installed) and therefor followed a guide (I will provide all the links I used in the end). I made sure my phone is charged over 90% and started the process. I didn't skip any guide steps but unfortunately that bricked it so I can't start it at all.
I made a Nandroid backup previously so I would be able to get back to my current system but my problem is, that I can't get to the TWRP recovery. When I press the power button my phone makes a short vibration repeated about every second (doesn't blink). It blinks in red though when plugged into the power supply or the computer. My computer doesn't recognize it at all (my phone can't boot :/).
I tried following things already:
1) - holding the [power button] => vibrates repeatedly until released (described above already )
2) - holding the [power button] + [volume up] => no vibration, seems to have no effect
3) - holding the [power button] + [volume down] => same reaction as 1)
4) - holding the (tiny red button near the sim card slot thingy also called) ["the reset button"] (?) => same reaction as 2)
5) - going crazy and holding everything at the very same time [power button] + [volume down] + ["reset button"] ^.^ => same reaction as 1)
I hope somebody can help me. I'm lost at this point
I hope I'm in the right forum for this ^.^
Thank you in advance!
Jenny
I can provide additional information (but unfortunately the spam protection thingy doesn't let me post links yet ^.^):
- Tutorial I followed
- ROM I downloaded (found in the guide)
- Gapps I downloaded (found int he guide)
So nobody? :/
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.
Stand by
Good luck
Thank you!
I will wait patiently
This might make for some interesting reading, hope it helps

Ya, it definitely did! Thank you very much
After reading that thread you gave me, some questions appeared . I will ask them in the end ^.^
So the situation is the following now:
I can access my phone through the Flash Tool thingy and it even seems to flash. So now I can start it and it gets to the "Sony" screen, then it gets stuck. From here I can get to the flashmode though by holding [power button] + [volume up], then as soon as it turns black, I hold [volume down]. In the Flash Tool I flashed the 14.4.A.0.108 firmware but this process really confuzzled me...
In Flash Tool I can "Exclude" the "KERNEL" only, there are no other options (at least for that firmware I have here :/) => Don't I need things like "BOOT" and such too?
Also this firmware isn't a stock one . This one I used to get root access (I can't find a stock firmware (of which I think it should contain more than the "KERNEL" only? ))
Previously Flash Tool recognized my phone correctly, now it says this:
"20/023/2015 21:23:01 - INFO - Current device : Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25 - CB5A1Y6YT6 - Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25 - 1275-9486_14.4.A.0.108 - Unknown: Feb 21 2014/16:15:25" (The "Unknown" thingy is new and I don't really like it ^.^') => I think I need the stock rom thingy, don't I?
After reading that thread you linked me I'm confused about my battery... Should I charge it or make it die?
Mister, I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU! *______* x3333 *happy*
I could unbrick my phone and reinstall the stock rom thingy (I found one!). Thank you for helping me and kicking my brain into the right direction x3. You're great!
I still have my Nandroid thingy, so I just need to install that one <3 *closes the tab with all the new z3 Compacts she was thinking about to buy*
I'd really appreciate if myou could answer my questions though, if that's not too much :/ And if you're not yet tired of me, maybe you know a good ROM I could try? (I'm afraid of trying the cyagen 11 now v.v')
You're the best <3
Glad you sorted it.
If I were you I would relock your bootloader, restore DRM keys (you did back them up?), flash stock .108 firmware and re-root.

What does relocking the bootloader give you, sir?
I don't think I have read anything about DRM keys yet so I think I don't have them anymore ^.^
And ya, I flashed .108, rooted and flashed .157 again <3
I actually figured out how all that process works and I got really fast with it without using any guides anymore, everything works just fine! There's one exception though :/ I tried to install the Paranoid Android thingy just to see if I can mactually get it to work... I couldn't, I got the very same problem again after flashing it in the TWRP recovery thingy it didn't want to start anymore (repetitive vibrations when holding the [power button], no display). So I just backed up to my nandroid backup I made before.
I wish I could get any ROM to work, but it doesn't seem like it, I think I'm too blonde for that :/
But it makes me so happy my phone is working again ^__^
