*Near Perfect* ShinyROM [AOSP 4.4.2] KOT49H (No mods, completely stock!) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

ORIGINAL CREDIT TO BALDWINGUY77 OVER ON ROOTZWIKI. CHECK OUT THE ORIGINAL THREAD HERE
This ROM is Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat, build KOT49H. The ROM is built directly from source, that is, the Android source code published by Google available for download to all of us developers. The reason I say the ROM is "OTA-like" is because I make VERY few modifications to it, aside from the things that it takes to get the ROM working. I'll go into detail about those things below, but basically I just want the ROM to make your phone feel stable and shiny and new as if it has just received a new OTA update. That being said, it's clear that the landscape of Nexus devices is changing as new ones are released. Therefore, the other primary goal of this ROM is to keep our Galaxy Nexus as close to the modern Nexus design as possible. This means that I will also add in features that will still be stock, but will also make our phones as close to a current Nexus as possible.
As for how I handle the forum side of things, I'm always open to comments, questions, suggestions, requests, etc. I know that most of those things will often be in the form of criticism, but it's okay, I think I can handle it That being said, I do also have a life and am a college student, so I may not get to come on here ALL the time. I will check back as frequently as possible, and I'm hoping that you guys will help each other out as much as possible! Keep it friendly! So now for the details...
Features
Stock Android 4.4.2, build KOT49H
Source (AOSP) built kernel (boot.img)
(De)Odexed
Easily rootable (see information below)
G-Apps (GMail, Play Store, etc.) included in build along with Nexus apps
Stock browser replaced with Google Chrome
Shiny restart options - access them by holding down the power button and then long pressing on "Power Off"
All the crazy Google proprietary app stuff has been taken care off
Updated frequently
Everything works!
So what do I mean when I say "Everything works!"?
I'm sure by now you all know that when someone says that, it usually ends up not being true. This ROM is not an exception to that rule, but I can say that I've tested most of the things that would be expected to work in stock Android, such as...
WiFi Tethering (no subscription check)
Bluetooth streaming
Google account sign-in and auto-restore of apps and settings
Google Wallet
Location Services (pretty fast GPS lock in my area also)
Believe it or not, December is still a month!
Photosphere
Android beam
Photo editing with the new filters
Email
Exchange support
Like I said, the normal stuff (data, voice, hardware acceleration, etc.)
More things that aren't important enough to mention here - check out the changelog for a more comprehensive list
Installation Instructions (VERY IMPORTANT - Note: You can flash all of these ZIPs in CWM or TWRP)
ROM
1. Download the latest version of the ROM from the download post. (Also download any other files you will need to install, such as Chainfire's Superuser Root ZIP, the radios installation ZIP, the bootloader installation ZIP, etc.)
2. Put the file(s) you downloaded in step 1 on your phone's internal storage (sdcard).
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Boot into the bootloader of the phone by holding down both volume buttons and the power button simultaneously until you feel a vibration and see a large arrow that says "Start".
5. Use the volume keys to change the arrow until it says "Recovery," then press the power button to boot into recovery.
6. Because of differences in recovery types, I will make the following steps rather generic.
7. Wipe cache.
8. Wipe dalvik cache.
9. If you want to be 100% sure there are no problems, wipe data. If you are coming from another ROM or Android version, wipe data. If you do not wipe data and something goes wrong, repeat this process but wipe data - this step is not necessary if you are simply upgrading.
10. If you are updating your radios, flash FK01_FK02_Radios-signed.zip
11. If you are updating your bootloader, flash PRIMEMD04-signed.zip
12. Flash the ROM (baldwinguy77_toro_aosp...signed.zip)
13. If you are rooting, flash Chainfire's SuperSU ZIP file - this step is not necessary if you were rooted on the previous build and are simply upgrading.
14. Reboot your phone, and enjoy!
Download it noooooooowwwww: here, instant dl.
This isn't mine, if you have questions feel free to ask.
The lag can be fixed (apparently) by using a custom kernel like Mpokang.

I am sure this will get deleted... Xda doesn't like links to that other site....

Switched over to ShinyROM 4.3.x after running mmuzzy's ROMs for quite some time. Both devs are busy but are great with supporting their builds. If you're looking for a natural follow up to mmuzzy 4.2.2, I'd suggest Shiny 4.3.1. Like mmuzzy's ROMs, it's rock solid, close to stock and seems to be very compatible with the leaked 4.4 apps.

If you alter anything under settings ie changing from 3g to LTE after reboot you will only be able to obtain 3g. After clean install upon booting up immediately reboot to continue set up. 4g loads up everytime

I just tried this ROM just to try it out. I also dont get 4G. I have the latest radios installed. I see people over on the other site say that 4G is working though so I dont know what the issue is.

No problems with 4g here
But definitely has the graphics glitches. These are going to be present in every 4.4 for gnex until they figure it the new graphics drivers from what I've read.
Other than the graphics I haven't run into any issues. GPS works.. Not sure on Bluetooth as I don't use it. Using mpokang 1080 kernel.

I'm not getting 4G either. I followed the steps of flashing the new radio, rebooting after the first, boot, etc., but still no 4G. Only 3G and WiFi.

No 4G/3G *** Because no SIM
Ok, so I don't have a SIM in this device right now. WiFi works just fine. I did have a reboot while trying to back out of Chrome tho. Still browsing, but the install and root were super easy.

S4 Google Edition Flashable Rom

UPDATE
Android 4.2.2 v6
Working: All with amazing battery life
Not working: Google Wallet (force close)
Again, not my work, just helping the community!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341794
Same setup - should work on T-MO.
Just an update about the new 4.3 GPe: External SD Card is readable when you plug it into your PC. The camera however still does not read the SD card. All else is still functioning.Version 4.3 will break root! All versions of SU currently do not work with 4.3. Just keep that in mind.
You can flash this over your current 4.2.2 Google Edition. If you're coming from TW, do a complete wipe, then flash. Thanks
____________________________________________________________________
No - I did not grab the system dump myself
Yes - I have tested this for the TMO variant and it's fully functioning
I did create a Youtube Video on how to install the Google Edition S4. Check it out!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmYpkJ27WAM
Althought it's not a ROM built from scratch or a project of any kind, it is a rom all in itself straight from the S4 GE
(Updated Link) - Thanks to luckyduck69 for posting a new mirror. Previous Link crashed XD.
If you're interested in the GE (VERSION 4.2.2), download here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5nz662i2y826kwd/google-edition-bg.zip
As always, make a backup, wipe, then flash.
Enjoy!:good:

Thanks!
Installed using TWRP 2.5.0.2.
Was notified Root was not installed, told TWRP to install it for me.
So far, seems fine! I miss the "long press back to kill app" feature, but I can live without it as I play with this ROM.
Thanks for the link! After flashing this ROM will all software/firmware on the phone be identical to that on the GPe handset? Or are there any other bits that aren't contained in the ROM?
I'm wondering that too. This is stable? Wipe system/data/cache and flash?
I did a wipe flashed and then had to reboot to get WiFi
going, other than that so far so good .feels smooth, but it could be a placebo effect not sure
No gapps needed .. Holy shiiioot I now have a s4 Google edition! Thnx for the find.. Now if we can only theme...

Not a problem. After flashing this direct port, I've noticed that my Model number changed to GT-I9505G, but my baseband remains the same (MDL), As it appears, everything is fully functioning from that of the GPe. To be clear, no errors, force closes, or mis-haps have occured.

I'm not sure wi-fi calling is known to work even on the real GPe, is it? I thought it might be specific to TMo/TW ROM somehow. I guess only GPe reviewers know at this point.
I was referring more to general wi-fi capability, I saw some guys saying that didn't work with the GPe system dump on TMo handset.

[FLASHABLE ZIP] [v4.3] Switch ROMs among Tuna Devices // Android 4.4

Hello there. Recently, I have seen many people with Tuna devices(especially Toroplus and Toro) want other variants' ROMs. Most are available for all three variants, but some are not or have delays. Thankfully, some people edit the ROM zip files and upload them so that the folks with another variant can use it daily. But, this way of editing needs some time to download, edit, and upload.
I wanted to reduce the time, so I made a simple flashable-zip file.
How it works:
It deletes most of the unneeded files and place the files you need in the appropriate paths. Then a script modifies the build.prop.
NOT WORKING:
-MMS
-data on some ROMs
Versions
v1-v3: 4.2.2
v4-latest: 4.3-4.4
Downloads:
http://mbqonxda.net/zittoro/tuna-converter
http://d-h.st/users/zittoro/tuna-converter?fld_id=27545&s=file_name&d=ASC
Thanks to @MBQ_ for ftp server hosting
@funkypc 's update to Android 4.4.2, AllTuna:
How-To:
1. Download a switch for your variant Download "Tuna" if you're not sure what it is.
2-1. Extract a ROM zip file of your choice (of another gnex variant)
2-2. Open /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
2-3. Delete these lines
Code:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "WHATEVERITIS" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "WHATEVERITIS");
If there isn't one, just leave it.
2-4. Zip the folder and flash it
3. Flash the switch
3. Flash Gapps and/or whatever fixes/mods/kernels you want
Data(3G/4G) doesn't work? (v4.2 or higher)
1. On any "native" YOURVARIANT's (maguro, toro, or toroplus) rom, copy and paste all of the followings at once in a terminal emulator app.
Code:
su
mkdir -p /sdcard/backups/telephony
cp -a /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/* /sdcard/backups/telephony
2. Reboot to recovery, full wipe, install a ROM of your choice (the one that you wanna convert), flash the switch zip, gapps, kernel, etc.
3. Reboot to android, see if data works, if not, turn on and off airplane mode. If still not, try changing the preferred network mode in Settings - WIRELESS&NETWORK - More... - mobile network. Still not, reboot.
If you want to change the carrier label, follow either set of steps in this thread by spunks3.
Please let me know if you find any bugs or if it doesn't work.

Updated to v2. Make sure to download the latest file - part of the file names could hardly be shown
My understanding of this is that I will download from the Maguro link since I'm using a Maguro, then I will flash this mod after I flash a toro ROM.
Is this correct?
Beamed from my Maguro.
Thank you so much for this. Can't wait to try this out on my Toro.

Some hints:
1. Be sure you are on latest CWM or TWRP recovery!!!!!!
2. Not all gapps packages right now are nice working. You can try others but at least I know that the one linked here is working. If you have other gapps which are working you can link it here of course
3. Full wipe when coming from any 4.3 or 4.4 rom (as well format system manually please)
Reporting Bugs
When you submit a bug you want to make sure that nothing from your side is causing it. Otherwise your developer might be hunting a bug which doesn't really exist.
The best way to achieve this is by doing the following.
1. Make a nandroid backup.
2. Perform a full wipe (factory reset + wipe /system)
Now we have two different ways depending on what kind of problem you're having.
3a. When you're having a problem with a ROM function, flash just the ROM without GAPPS etc. and boot back into the system. You will boot directly onto the homescreen.
3b. When you're having a problem with a 3rd party app in combination with our ROM then flash the ROM and GAPPS.
Boot now back into the system. You will boot to the setup wizard.
Log in to your Google account but make sure that you untick "Restore from my Google Account to this phone/tablet".
Finish the setup and open the playstore and download only the app you're having problems with.
4. Start a logcat recording and reproduce the bug (if possible more than once) while taking the logcat. If you don't know how to get a logcat read this tutorial or this.
5. Post the logcat in a txt file (this is important because you otherwise clog up the threads with your log) in the correct thread.
Please also write detailed description how we can reproduce the bug.
6. Restore your backup from point 1 and wait for a fix (don't ask for ETAs).
First,,,,,,,im all over this sucker trying it now i hope data works
Wooooo finally thanks slimroms

Data and everything not stated as a bug works. A couple questions for OP though.
1. Was this built with 4.2 binaries for radio and the like or the new 4.3 libraries we have now that 4.3 is officially released for the GNex?
2. Is the DPI correct for our device or is it set too high? When I had my own 4.4 build running on my phone it was a lot bigger when using branches from 4.3 ParanoidAndroid.
Thanks man

Use newest version of normal non touch cwm. Also use full paranoid android gapps for KitKat to get everything working. You will not have cell service if you do not use cwm.
Can you get it back?

Could not get pa 4.4 gapps. Link please that works. Thanks

I had switched to TWRP because my current ROM didn't flash right in CWM.
Guess if I want to try this, I'll have to go back. I haven't used a CM based ROM in a while. Anyone here using it?

Everything seems to work except Art. A few cm features built in. Seems stable and smooth.

is this a similar build to the one dw9906 posted? cause im running that and it almost perfect, however the camera FC sometimes, rotation is kinda sticky and flash isnt loading on my xscope browser.
everything else seems pretty solid so far.
EDIT: i guess it is the same build.
Camera hasn't fc on me yet. Rotation seems fine here. Haven't tried flash yet. Don't know if it's the same build. I tried looking for a Cm11 build before I posted this and didn't see one. I must of missed it.

I'm getting an invalid device type "t03g" on my SGH-T889 "a3lsght889. This is the correct device type from what I am reading, why am I getting an error?
Also saw a post that said something about the t03g being a clone? Now im worried about fraud on this device. Anyone have any info on this being a fraud or was that one post just misleading? Its labeled as a Samsung note 2 nd all software shows its a Samsung Note2 and all CWM and rotting images worked fine so far.
Do I need to do something special to get it to install? Any info is appreciated.
Edit: It seems the t03g was due to using that devices as a recovery my mistake from another thread. I used Rom manager to install the correct CWM and it was fine after that. Just FYI if people need it.
Thanks,
saridnour

What does ART actually do or what is it for?
Sent from my Note2 W/4.4 KitKat™.
Installed runs smoothly autorotate didn't function at first a reboot after enabling it fixed it. Haven't seen any other problems as of yet. Not many extra cm features that I can see but still awesome. Not liking the zoom feature for the browser but still OK.

Art (android run time) is supposed to help speed up android apps and processes. Faster boot, app launching, tasks, scrolling, loading, etc. In the future it may replace dalvik. Right now its in developmental stage.

Hi. Thought I'd share this link I found on G+ with you guys. It's an unofficial build of cm11(KitKat) for T Mobile Galaxy Note 2. I own the Att I317 but I'm going to give this a try later. I believe this should work on my device also.

Questions about the my s2

So, I still have my s2. I'm unrooted and the sim card slot doesn't work anymore. Not many apps are compatible with my phone. What should I do? I want to make this secondary device useful once again.
I keep it in airplane mode with WiFi on. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Root it, flash a decent custom rom with a dsp manager/good audio settings program, a good audio player program, and turn it in to a gigantic mp3 player?
I dunno.

I'd root it, install AOSPA or FrostedCarbon Unofficial (both are KitKat.) All apps and games I want to install are compatible with it. What Android version is it running?

It's on 2.3.6 I think. it's terrible. When it was my daily driver I had it rooted with Jedi mind trick. I have been out of the loop since though.

If you want it to be a decent device, upgrade it to at least 4.0.4 (ota or Odin,) flash the latest TWRP through Odin, do a backup and a full wipe, flash ParonoidAndroid (and gapps if you want,) wipe cache and Dalvik and reboot. If everything went well and after you are done flashing/modding everything, you may delete the backup if it's taking up too much space. I usually hold on to mine, though.

Do what this guy says! If you're still on the stock ROM, you can easily update it to the official Jelly Bean release through Kies. After that, flash something like Paranoid Android, Cyanogenmod, SlimKat, etc. I took an old phone of mine, put a 16GB microSD in, installed Viper4Android audio, and used it as a Bluetooth/Car auxiliary device . You could also use it as a remote for things like Spotify or Roku, just search the play store for that.

I use it for Tapatalk, music player, email, and remote for XBMC. AOSPA supports App2Sd (which is really the other part of internal storage) so that you can install more apps. If your sim still worked, I'd replace the battery and install AOSPA in it and use it for a daily driver.

I tried absolutely every possible solution except replacing that part, so I'm sure it's still usable. Gonna re-root and try one of these roms out. So weird since I've been out of the forums so long.

I would immediately root it. Because I've done it to my T-Mobile S2-Hercules long time ago and I've tried almost all of the custom ROMs/ Kernals that are out there.
I'm currently using S2 right now because I've lost my Galaxy S4. I've installed Paranoid Android 4.45 to my Galaxy S2-Hercules and believe me this ROM is by far the BEST, STABLE, and FAST. Recently, I've updated to Paranoid Android 4.5 BETA2. So far no major bugs except shooting a video.
As far as installing APPS goes, I've installed tons of apps/games, all of them are working and stable in S2. So far no issues.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to ROOT IT.
I would install a custom rom, especially if it isn't your main phone.
I'd use it for a music player.
Then for gags, I'd probably theme it to make it look like an iPod.

You know, sim card holders are pretty cheap on eBay... I checked after I almost destroyed mine when my cut down sim got stuck in the slot. Luckily I got it out without damage...

Yes, Jelly been and up do.
Yeah, go on and root it. There isn't much else to do with it otherwise. Alpine and PA roms have been pretty good.
