Only wish Google's launcher was a bit more tweakable. Surprising that there isn't a context menu item for System Settings

If any of you get consistent crashes while searching in new Google Search there is an easy fix.
Scroll to the bottom of Google Now > Settings > Voice > Language > English > change to something besides English (US) (this causes the crashes).
The search was useless for me until this fix.

I discovered that feature and filled back on my Search because of it. Thanks

No problem. I did the same and went back to Nova until I found the solution. Now I only miss using my Nox icon theme and the additional options of Nova. I hope Google expands the customization of this a bit, I'll be keeping it for now as it seems really quick/smooth.

Do you have it set to English (US) or something else?

It is *very common*.
What you need to do to get it back...well it involves the Search crashing bug. "Ok, Google" only appears if you're using the US English settings in Google Now/Search....Ofc, there's known bug of Search crashing if you try to do a search with US English...so here's what you do to have both, order is important:
(setup Google Search/Now)
1) Set US English as the default languages in Search
2) do a Search query
3) Search will crash
4) Set the language to ANY other English language pack ("OK, Google" will disappear)
5) Do another search...and search will work
6) Hit Home button (exit out)
7) Change language BACK to US English
And now, Search should not only work, but "Ok Google" and its animations should be there.

[Q] I can't find Google Voice Search on my Nexus???

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I cannot seem to find Google Voice Search on my Nexus!!! It's not in the app drawer, there's no widget for it. But I go to Settings>Apps, and it's still under the "All" section, and I'm able to enable/disable it just fine. So I tried to go to the Market to see if I could download it there, and there is no "install" button (I'm assuming because it's a built in app)...help? I'm not running any custom ROM's...just stock, unlocked, rooted. I am using Nova Launcher, so that may be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ohhh thank you. I disabled the search bar in Nova Launcher...I didn't realize that was the only way to do the Voice Commands...

disable search button?

I've searched every possible division combination of terms I could think of and can't find any thing about this. is there any way to disable the (magnifying glass) search button on the bottom right? I'm always hitting it by mistake and it's very frustrating

Certain home apps can offer that or prolly even app specifically for it on market. I know Adw allows button binding which I believe includes search button. Forget if it was long press only maybe but check it out there is a free one.

On the ROMS I've used (various 4.1 & 4.04 from the dev section), I have deactivate the capacitive search key press (but not long press), by disabling Google Search:
settings> apps> all> scroll down to Google Search
Then touch Google Search to open, touch "force stop", touch "disable". There will be multiple warning messages the you can click through.
You likely need to be rooted to do this.
This assumes that you can live without the Google Search Bar on your home screen. Personally, I've never wanted it as it takes up too much space and I can easily open a browser window with one touch and conduct my search. But that's a matter of personal preference.

Use Titanium Backup Pro and FREEZE Google Search.
It will disabled one click search, but not totally because the search function will be enabled once you do a long press on the search button.

Yea I pretty much figured that out and deleted Swiftkey I had installed. But the thing is its not suppose to do that once you disable it in the settings menu. Either thank you for the help.

Actually it just popped up again. Ive taken out swiftkey and the only keyboard is the default sammy. Now it prompts me to choose between keyboard or voice typing which btw I disabled and cannot uninstall and would not want to as I use it from time to time.

Solved!
Try this:
Browse to /data/system/inputmethod
Delete subtypes.xml
Reboot
Now, if you've another input method you want you'll have to open the xml doc and remove entries to the one which keeps popping up (for me it was Google voice input - but luckily I'm still able to use the voice search in Google Now despite deleting subtypes.xml )
Otherwise, this should work. I tried unticking all but one input methods in the settings menu but it never worked. This does.

Ok google from any screen

Hello,
I can't seem to find a way to activate "ok google" from any screen...
I'm running rooted LG G3 with nova launcher prime.
Is there a way or a mod to get it work from any screen?
Thanks in advance.
From Google Search settings--> Voice--> "OK Google" Detection, make sure "From any screen" is selected. Then in Nova settings--> OK Google, make sure the "OK Google" Hotword option is selected.
Thanks for the answer.
Unfortunately i cant get access to the "any screen" option.
I tried to switch language from french to english, the option doesn't appear :/

Hello - for this to work you MUST set your launguage to "English US" do these steps below.
Settings-->Language and Input-->Voice search--> change top languages to "English US" then set a secondary langauge --> click "OK Google" --> click "from any screen"
You may have to do the voice training.

So werid man - sorry.
I'll update today to CloudyG3 ROM..
Maybe i'll get it to work with it..
Anyway thanks!!
I've been having the same issue since I got my G3 I tried reinstalling google search and google now launcher many times and the option is never there to search from any screen.
I had a same issue and the reason we couldn't see the option to tick any screen is I freezed it with tb and defrost it and updated from play store then was able to see the option in the setting. U have to defrost Google search and update it using play store. I even can use in Google from not only any screen but also on lock screen as well... Cheers

Have you rebooted after changing the language to US English?
You have to do a Google search from the app "OK Google everywhere" then the option should appear.

Assist & Voice input

Hi to all!
Simply question: I want to remove the google assistant in the bottom corners of the homescreen, so i go settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app and i select none and till here nothing to say. The problem is that everytime i reboot or switch off the phone, google assistant return as default app instead of "none" and it's a lot weird. There's a way to definitely remove the app? i don't want to uninstall or disable it, only remove from the corners. Maybe a fake app to put there instead of google. Thank you!

If you're rooted, just freeze it with titaniumbackup. If not rooted, use adb to disable.
Edit... N/m Check the launcher settings? I use nova launcher so never seen it.
Which os are you on?
when I follow that route (settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app) I just have Google, no option for "none".
i use the MS launcher and I've never had the Google assistant on the home screen, switched back to the 1+ default and it wasn't there either
I'm on stock oos 10.0.12, I've taken a screen.. and I'm using Nova launcher

I've said I don't want to disable it because I think it could give problems
EDIT: See now from PC that your sentence was crossed out. I'm using nova too, is there a setting inside launcher that i don't see?

I'm not sure.. I have mine set to 'none' as I don't use the assistant. I haven't had any issues. In fact, it's been that way since I set up the phone some 9 months ago.
